Oregon woman ignited massive fire for 'bored' firefighters, heads to prison

An Oregon woman convicted of igniting an enormous wildfire simply to give firefighters something to put out will now spend more than one year in jail.

On Wednesday, Sadie Renee Johnson, 23, was sentenced to 18 months in prison by US District Judge Marco Hernandez. In May, she pleaded guilty to sparking a fire that burned through 51,000 acres southeast of Portland, Oregon, back in July 2013. The fire ravaged the Warm Springs Indian Reservation for more than a week and cost almost $8 million to extinguish.

Johnson will also perform 200 hours of community service in the affected area, a sentence that Hernandez reportedly considered light, according to the Associated Press.

"You owe them much more than that," he said to her in court.

The fire began when Johnson threw a firework out of her car and lit up some brush, as noted by Reuters. Two days later, with the fire still raging, Johnson posted a status update on Facebook that read, "Like my fire?" which led detectives to detain her. Johnson eventually claimed that she started the fire because her friends in the fire department "were bored and needed work."

The young woman has also stated she does have substance abuse problems, something that was taken into account by the judge as he determined her sentence. She could have potentially faced five years in prison.

How supporting Israel undermines the U.S.

Blasting Gaza into rubble has affected the average American in ways that U.S. politicians will learn to regret. The result is more than bleeding heart sympathy for dead Palestinian children (430 at last count). There is a deeper political effect happening, as young and old alike realize for the first time the cancerous lies coursing through the veins of the U.S. media and political system.
bombing of Gaza
© www.islamicinvitationturkey.comHow long can Israel commit heinous war crimes while America just covers its eyes?
The U.S. government's support of Israel - which includes Obama and all 100 senators - further exposes the gigantic clash between the unpopular foreign policy of the U.S. versus the desires of its residents. The government will be further pushed by corporate interests to pursue these profitable overseas policies, which are teaching millions of people about the reality of their government, consequently undermining the "stable foundation" of the U.S. government.

Merely glancing at the casualty statistics was enough for most Americans to know their TV was lying to them: 1900 Palestinians have died, 10,0000 have been injured - 80 percent of them civilians. Meanwhile, three Israeli civilians have died, zero injured. There is more damage after a Super Bowl victory party than Israel has suffered from Hamas' laughable fireworks.

Americans reacted in horror to Israel's massively disproportionate violence - an obvious war crime as defined by the Geneva Convention. And even more obvious war crimes were committed: the high profile Israeli missile attacks on Gaza hospitals, schools and UN bomb shelters.

During this carnage American viewers were endlessly told by "experts" that "Israel has a right to defend itself," a completely meaningless phrase when entire Gaza neighborhoods were obliterated to pebbles, while the U.S. media searched in vain for ANY damage caused by the "terrifying" Hamas' rockets.

Comment: It is not enough to awaken social consciousness, we must also awaken social responsibility. Obviously the U.S. congress doesn't have either, especially if they are rulled by Israeli propaganda and U.S. corporate profit while closing their minds, eyes and hearts to civil atrocities such as the blatant slaughter in Gaza. It is not enough to disagree, have druthers, or disown one's government, one has to stand up and be accountable to the change that is pleading to be made. If the only thing you can do is put the message out there...DO IT.

Do you receive free lunch at work? The IRS wants to tax it...

IRS

The IRS. There are few agencies more hated, corrupt, and degraded in the entire nation, and that's saying a lot.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past couple of years, you are well aware of the fact that the IRS was caught consistently abusing its extraordinary power in order to selectively target groups with which leadership disagreed with politically.

We also know that the IRS, and its former director of the Exempt Organizations Unit, Lois Lerner, subsequently destroyed evidence of misconduct by claiming emails had been lost and are unrecoverable, in a ludicrous series of purported events.

I thought the following Tweet summarized my sentiments as well as anything else I have seen.
One thing the celebrity nude pictures story shows us is the only thing ever permanently deleted from the internet is Lois Lerner's emails.

So with the scandal now behind the IRS, and nobody held accountable as usual, at least we can rest assured that the tax agency has finally gotten its priorities straight.

Top web companies to join internet slowdown protest for net neutrality

Leading web companies like Mozilla, Foursquare and reddit will take part in the Internet Slowdown protest next week to urge US authorities to change their view on a proposal that allows the creation of "fast lanes" on the internet for some companies.

The protesting companies will display a widget with a "loading" symbol on their websites to show how the internet would look should the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) impose the law, thus overturning "net neutrality" rules.

The FCC proposed rules will allow cable giants like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon to create a two-tiered internet, with "slow lanes" for most internet companies, and "fast lanes" for corporations that are willing to pay extra for a faster service.

According to the new rules cable companies would have the power to discriminate against online content and applications, shake sites down for fees, block content for political reasons, and make it easier for internet users to view content the cable companies own.

Some of the world's largest internet companies, including Etsy, Kickstarter, Mozilla, reddit, imgur, Foursquare, Vimeo, and Wordpress announced on Thursday they will join more than 35 advocacy organizations and hundreds of thousands of activists on September 10 to show how the internet might look if the FCC's proposed rules go into effect.

However the FCC has left open the possibility of reclassifying internet service as a telecommunications service, and require internet service providers to deliver all content at equal speeds.

The protest comes just five days before the FCC's next comment deadline on September 15th.

Irony RIP: Tony Blair wins Philanthropist of the Year

Image
© (Photo: GQ/Getty)Me? Really?
Satire died when Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize, said Tom Lehrer. Now irony has followed it to the grave. GQ's Philanthropist of the Year is Tony Blair. And no, this isn't some cunning wind-up by the magazine. They gave the former PM a bauble at a ceremony last night. I'd like to say that Blair looks suitably embarrassed holding it, but nope. Neither he nor the lady wife 'do' embarrassment.

Even nice Gary Lineker had a go at GQ on Twitter. 'People will be greatly concerned and wonder if this was the right decision,' he tweeted when the news came through. They will indeed wonder. Employing four-letter words, I suspect.

I would love to have been at the Condé Nast meeting at which this one was agreed. I won't risk a libel action by speculating about the conversation, but please let your imaginations roam. The tribute to the winner on GQ's website reads: 'In 2007 Tony Blair stepped down as prime minister, but his surging momentum's shown no signs of slowing.' So that's another ceremony to look forward to: Private Eye awards Dylan Jones the Order of the Brown Nose (OBN).

Comment: How obscene! A more appropriate award would have been 'Hypocrite of the Year'! Or 'Psychopath of the Year' (backdated for 2003 in particular - Iraq War turkey shoot!)

Tony Blair is a psychopathic war criminal. For more articles on this generous 'peace envoy' and philanthropist, see here and here and here!

Ten mind control techniques used today to create non-thinking automatons

Image
© Newswatch.us
The more one researches mind control, the more one will come to the conclusion that there is a coordinated script that has been in place for a very long time with the goal to turn the human race into non-thinking automatons. For as long as man has pursued power over the masses, mind control has been orchestrated by those who study human behavior IN ORDER TO bend large populations to the will of a small "elite" group. Today, we have ENTERED a perilous phase where mind control has taken on a physical, scientific dimension that threatens to become a permanent state if we do not become aware of the tools at the disposal of the technocratic dictatorship unfolding on a worldwide scale.

Modern mind control is both technological and psychological. Tests show that simply by exposing the methods of mind control, the effects can be reduced or eliminated, at least for mind control advertising and propaganda. More difficult to counter are the physical intrusions, which the military-industrial complex CONTINUES to develop and improve upon.

1. Education -

This is the most obvious, yet still remains the most insidious. It has always been a would-be dictator's ultimate fantasy to "educate" naturally impressionable children, thus it has been a central component to Communist and Fascist tyrannies throughout history. No one has been more instrumental in exposing the agenda of modern education than Charlotte Iserbyt - one can begin research into this area by downloading a FREE PDF of her book, The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America, which lays bare the role of Globalist foundations IN SHAPING a future intended to produce servile drones lorded over by a fully educated, aware elite class.

West Bank: Orphanage dairy factory demolished by Israeli army

Dairy factory destruction
© twitter.comIsraeli forces destroying Arrahma Dairy Factory in Hebron City
Israeli soldiers invaded on Tuesday, at dawn, the southern West Bank city of Hebron, and initiated the destruction of a dairy factory that belongs to the Islamic Charitable Society for Orphans, in the city.

Eyewitnesses said that dozens of soldiers, accompanied by armored bulldozers, broke into the dairy factory in the ar-Rahma neighborhood, east of Hebron, and declared the area a closed military zone, preventing journalists and residents from entering it.

Sheikh Hatem al-Bakri, head of the administrative board of the Islamic Charitable Society, said the factory provides the needed means for caring for the orphans in the Hebron District.
"What is happening is an attack on the orphans themselves: several months ago, the army confiscated various machines with an estimated monetary value of $2 million," al-Bakri told the Maan News Agency. "This factory is essential for the services, and charitable aid we provide."
He added that the society contacted its legal advisor, lawyer Jawad Boulos, who informed them that Israel alleges the factory, and the charitable society are "run by Hamas".

orphans, destruction
© www.maannews.netIsrael targets orphans with acts of terror.
"However, the children, the orphans, are the ones who pay the price for Israel's assaults and allegations," Boulos stated.

The Charitable Society decided to open this factory in order to fund services it provides to the orphans, especially with the rising costs amidst the tough conditions in the Palestinian territories, under Israel's illegitimate occupation.

Comment: If you think Israel targeting Palestinian orphans is new, think again. In 2008, for example, hundreds of Israeli occupation troops stormed a Palestinian orphanage and boarding school in Hebron and looted millions of dollars worth of food, dairy products, clothes, shoes, refrigerators, kitchen equipment, crates of frozen meat, sanitary supplies, sports equipment, blankets and mattresses...used by as many as 7,000 orphans, run by the Islamic Charitable Society. They forced open the main gate and loaded everything on trucks in order to liquidate social and educational infrastructures at the price of innocent children. On this same rampage, Israel confiscated several school buildings, an orphanage, a supermarket, several apartment buildings, school busses and destroyed other businesses - - looting computers, cabinets, furniture, appliances and even taking the windows. This was organized robbery. Gestapo style. Heartless. Pathological.

The destruction of higher education in 5 basic steps

Higher education is not what it used to be, and that's no accident.
Image
© Cognitiveliberty.net
A few years back, Paul E. Lingenfelter began his report on the defunding of public education by saying,
"In 1920 H.G. Wells wrote, 'History is becoming more and more a race between education and catastrophe.' I think he got it right. Nothing is more important to the future of the United States and the world than the breadth and effectiveness of education, especially of higher education. I say especially higher education, but not because pre- school, elementary, and secondary education are less important. Success at every level of education obviously depends on what has gone before. But for better or worse, the quality of postsecondary education and research affects the quality and effectiveness of education at every level."
In the last few years, conversations have been growing like gathering storm clouds about the ways in which our universities are failing. There is talk about the poor educational outcomes apparent in our graduates, the out-of-control tuition and crippling student loan debt. Attention is finally being paid to the enormous salaries for presidents and sports coaches, and the migrant worker status of the low-wage majority faculty. There are movements to control tuition, to forgive student debt, to create more powerful "assessment" tools, to offer "free" university materials online, to combat adjunct faculty exploitation. But each of these movements focuses on a narrow aspect of a much wider problem, and no amount of "fix" for these aspects individually will address the real reason that universities in America are dying.

Another two New York school districts drop Michelle Obama's lunch program

Another two bite the dust.
Image
© Mrconservative.com
Central New York's Fayetteville-Manlius and Baldwinsville school districts are the latest to ditch the National School Lunch Program, which was revamped in 2010 under the guidance of First Lady Michelle Obama in an effort to fight childhood obesity.

Strict limits on calories, fat, sugar, carbohydrates, sodium and other aspects of the school lunch imposed by the federal government on schools participating in the free and reduced lunch program has not only increased cafeteria costs, they've resulted in a drastic drop in the number of participating students.

At Fayetteville-Manlius, Baldwinsville, and thousands of other districts the new regulations resulted in a sharp downturn in students who eat school lunch and a sharp increase in food waste. The lost sales are threatening the viability of cafeteria programs in schools across the country, prompting many to do without federal subsidies to serve students food they'll actually buy and eat.

"Grilled cheese and tomato soup was a very popular lunch," Baldwinsville Superintendent David Hamilton told WRVO public media. "We couldn't offer that under the new guidelines of the federal government. Spaghetti and meatballs, we couldn't offer that either."

As a result of last year's school lunch menu high school lunch sales in Baldwinsville plummeted from about 600 to 430 students per day.

Hospital in Liberia runs out of protective equipment to keep staff safe from Ebola

Image

The hospital in Liberia where three American aid workers got sick with Ebola has been overwhelmed by a surge in patients and doesn't have enough hazard suits and other supplies to keep doctors and nurses safe, a missionary couple told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The latest infection -- of Rick Sacra, a doctor who wasn't even working in the hospital's Ebola unit -- shows just how critical protective gear is to containing the deadly epidemic, and how charities alone can't handle the response, they said.

Nancy Writebol and her husband, David, called for reinforcements during the AP interview, which followed her first news conference since recovering from Ebola disease. They work for North Carolina-based SIM, the charity that supports the ELWA hospital in Monrovia, Liberia.

About 250 staffers at the hospital use thousands of disposable protective suits each week, but that's not enough to fully protect the doctors and nurses who must screen people entering the emergency room or treat patients outside the 50-bed Ebola isolation unit, they said.
