With Planned Parenthood license in jeopardy, Missouri may become the only state with no abortion clinics

Hundreds of women protest on the steps of the Old Courthouse during a Stop the Abortion Ban Bill Day of Action in St. Louis on May 21, 2019.
Missouri is poised this week to become the only U.S. state without access to legal abortions as public health officials may refuse to renew the license of the last clinic in Missouri to perform the procedure, Planned Parenthood said on Tuesday.

The state's Department of Health and Senior Services director Randall Williams told the St. Louis Post Dispatch that the state will make a decision by Friday on whether to renew the license of Reproductive Health Services of Planned Parenthood in St. Louis, the only clinic in the state that performs abortions.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson on Friday signed a bill banning abortion beginning in the eighth week of pregnancy, making Missouri one of eight states that have passed anti-abortion legislation this year.

Missouri is one of a handful of states to have passed restrictive abortion laws in recent months as anti-abortion activists say they aim to prompt the newly installed conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that established a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy by enacting these laws that are virtually assured of facing court challenges.

Critics of US President Donald Trump were enraged after American Navy airmen appeared in photos wearing 'morale patches' featuring a spinoff of Trump's campaign slogan, and his cartoon likeness.

Navy airmen from the USS Wasp donned the patches, which read "Make Aircrew Great Again," in preparation for a visit from President Trump, who delivered a speech for Memorial Day while aboard. The ship is docked in Japan.

Though the photos depict a group of grinning soldiers displaying the insignia, the reaction was not all smiles.

University of Denver offers 'Problematizing Whiteness' course

college students hi-5
In March, I wrote on the "American Political Thought" course offered by the political science department at the University of Colorado Denver that deliberately removed all white males and their contributions from the curriculum, instead focusing on "voices from the margins."

The trend of anti-white "wokeness" at CU Denver continued this semester. This spring, its ethnic studies department offered a course called "Problematizing Whiteness: Educating for Racial Justice."

The syllabus, a copy of which was obtained by The College Fix, spells out its details.

"The study of whiteness has always sought to challenge racism, racial privilege, white supremacy, and colorblind racism. However, to overindulge in the spectacle of 'white racial epiphanies' overlooks the ongoing work whites must do to participate in racial justice," it states. "Beyond the feel-good of momentary White racial awareness lurk enormous concerns about how to continually examine Whiteness in order to uphold antiracism, moreover the fruition of a more racially just society."

Comment: How long before major universities start feeling the financial backlash from white students who are sick and tired of paying good money to be villified?

Don't be a drug mule: Japanese man with 246 packets of cocaine in his stomach dies on international flight

plance service crew
A 42-year-old Japanese man died on a Bogota-to-Tokyo flight after swallowing 246 packets of cocaine and having a seizure.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death -- brain swelling from cocaine overdose -- after the man's body was removed from an Aeromexico flight that made an emergency landing in northern Mexico, according to a statement issued by the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Sonora.

"Staff noticed that a person was suffering from seizures, so they requested to make an emergency landing in this city, Hermosillo," according to the statement.

Russian man risks his life to save two girls from raging fire

A daring seventh-floor rescue by a man clinging to a balcony with his one free hand to save two girls from the burning flat below has been captured on video.

A large fire broke out at an apartment block in the town of Fokino in the Primorsky Region in Russia's Far East on Monday. It spread so quickly that two girls, aged 12 and 3, failed to evacuate in time and found themselves cut off from the exit by flames and suffocating smoke.

They retreated to the small balcony on the sixth floor, but it could only provide temporary shelter. The people in the street saw the children in distress and stretched a blanket underneath. They tried to encourage the girls to jump, insisting they would catch them. But it seemed a risky idea as the height of the sixth floor is around 20 meters.

Bucking the trend: Arby's says it will NEVER add plant-based meat to its menu

Arby's roast beef restaurant

The roast beef sandwich specialist might be the largest chain to disavow plant-based options.

Since 2014, Arby's slogan has been "We Have the Meats." And just in case you were wondering, the sandwich chain has made it clear that means real meats only. In a decision to buck one of the biggest trends in fast food, Arby's has released an official statement saying it will never serve plant-based meat.

For the record, the announcement wasn't completely unprovoked. A representative for Arby's pointed me towards an article posted earlier this week on the "ultimate source for all-things vegan," VegNews, titled "Arby's Looks to Add Plant-Based Impossible Meat to Menu." That story cites tech site The Information which writes that, as part of a presentation targeting investors during the fake meat company's recent $300 million funding round, Impossible Foods included Arby's among a group of chains it claims had reached out to them. The Information also states that "Arby's didn't immediately respond to requests for comment."

Comment: How much more publicity would the chain get by falling in line and serving fake processed veggie garbage like all the other fast-food chains? Probably none. One doesn't stand out by doing what everyone else is doing.

Not that Arby's should be held up as any kind of healthy option - it's still processed fast food, after all. But at least they're willing to stand up and say no to plant-based scam.

4chan's new troll campaign aims to make the hashtag a white supremacist symbol

Nazi hash tag
Members of the notorious internet forum 4chan have proposed a new troll campaign aimed at converting the hashtag into a white supremacist symbol.

In a post, on the /pol/ or "politically incorrect" message board, an anonymous user calls on his fellow forum frequenters to begin creating propaganda that incorporates the commonly used pound sign.

"We must start using # to represent the swastika on memes and social media," the user states.

The far-right campaign, dubbed "Bash the Hash," a play on the anti-fascist term "Bash the Fash," aims to remove the ability of sites like Twitter to use the popular symbol.

"It will be a perfect win-win situation," the user adds. "Either Twitter will have to accept blatant Nazism on its forums or it will effectively have to find a way to get rid of the site's core mechanics."

Bash the Hash "will also force corporations to stop putting hashtags on every fucking ad ever," according to the campaign leader.

Although the idea was met with mixed reviews, a slew of campaign posters and memes began circulating on Twitter. The posts were purported to originate from sources such as antifa-a far-left collective known for using direct action or violence against far-right groups.

Comment: As an example of how idiotic the mainstream media has become, CNN seems to have picked up on this particular trolling campaign and is determined to make it 'real'.

Taylor Swift just proved feminism's harm on millennials

Taylor Swift just proved my point. My last post was about feminism's harmful influence on millennials; and less than 24 hours later, a friend sent me this USA Today article that highlights an interview Taylor Swift gave on a promotional tour in which a German reporter asks Swift if she has children or family on her mind since she turns 30 this year.

A quick caveat: I feel compelled to write that this question shouldn't be asked of any woman, as it's no one's business but hers. However, such probing questions by the media are inevitable at that level of fame. Swift is entitled to dodge the question, which she did. But her reason for not answering it speaks volumes: "I really do not think men are asked that question when they turn 30, so I'm not going to answer that now."

Here's a newsflash for Swift and other young women who didn't get the memo: No one asks men that same question because men don't have a biological clock. Women do.

Yoga teacher who disappeared in Hawaii says 'voice' guided her through forest: 'It was so strong'

Amanda Ellers

Throughout her 17 days lost in a dense Hawaiian forest, yoga instructor Amanda Eller said a "voice" guided her throughout the area, leading her further and further away from her vehicle.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Eller called the more than two weeks she spent lost in the Makawao Forest Reserve a learning experience that brought her closer to nature - even if it almost ended her life.

"This whole journey was extremely spiritual for me, and I never felt alone, and I never felt fearful. It was an opportunity to overcome fear of everything," said Eller, 35, according to CNN. "There was so much beauty in that."

Comment: This should, perhaps, be taken as a warning to not follow every 'voice' that happens across our minds at any given moment. While Eller seems to have put a positive spin on her 'spiritual' experience, the real world consequences, resources needed, worry from loved ones, haven't seemed to be taken into account. Perhaps the next time she has the urge to go on a walkabout, she'll take a GPS!

No rooftop gardens: French Senate says Notre Dame must be restored as before

Notre Dame cathedral clad in scaffolding after last month's devastating fire
France's Senate has approved a bill to restore Paris' iconic Notre Dame cathedral, but stipulated that it must be restored to the state it was in before it was gutted by fire.

The bill had already passed France's lower house of Parliament, but the Senate added a clause that the cathedral must be restored to its original Gothic glory, ending weeks of speculation as to whether the landmark could get a modernist re-imagining.

"This project must become a showcase: A showcase of our heritage protection regime, a showcase of our know-how in this area, in short, a showcase that lives up to our reputation!" said Yvelines senator Alain Schmitz.

The rebuilding of the cathedral - which had its spire and much of its roof damaged by fire last month - has been the subject of intense debate. Suggestions tabled by architects and designers included replacing the spire with a glass pyramid or a towering beam of light, a solar-powered urban garden, or even an Islamic minaret, though the latter suggestion may have been an elaborate trolling attempt.
