About a dozen popular French YouTube and Instagram bloggers set off for a journey to the Brussels office of the European Commission in April. The "study tour" as organizers put it included visiting "iconic" EU locations and a series of seminars on "dismantling of misconceptions about Europe." But, awkwardly enough, what was meant to be the journey of enlightenment was ultimately perceived by young bloggers as surreal dystopia.
"I had an impression that I found myself inside the "1984" [novel] or late USSR with all these zealous officials who are guided by good intentions which as is well known pave the road to hell," Tatiana Ventose, a presenter of French YouTube show Fil d'Actu ("Newsfeed") told RT.
In response to a smear by virulent empire propagandist Idrees Ahmad about his conducting an interview with RT, Melzer tweeted that he has given interviews to both Sky News and BBC World, but that they seem not to have been aired.
"So the UN rapporteur actually appeared on the Kremlin's premier propaganda network - yes, the propaganda network of the state that shoots journalists in the face - to discuss Julian Assange's 'torture'," tweeted Ahmad, pretending to be under the illusion that UN experts are meant to remain exclusively loyal to a specific group of nations.

Long Island Jewish center with Israeli and American flags at half mast after Ariel Sharon’s death in January 2014.
Beinart says dual loyalty is inherent in the ways in which American Jews support Israel.
By the way, many other Jews from John Judis to Joe Klein to Eric Alterman to Melissa Weintraub, have made a similar point.I want to talk about the even more sensitive subject that she raised, which is the question of dual loyalty, or dual allegiance. I'll be honest, I haven't written this because I feel like it's too sensitive, but I have talked about it. So my kids go to Jewish day school. When I tried to talk about this subject to them, they were somewhat confused, because they essentially thought that a loyalty - allegiance - to the United States and to Israel was what was expected of them.
Right? I mean look at the iconography of American Jewish life. Prayer for the United States in shul, prayer for medina Yisrael [state of Israel]. American flag, Israeli flag - right? I mean at their school, they have the clock that says what time it is in New York and the clock that says what time it is in Israel.
And if someone asked me, do you have a loyalty to the Jewish people, which is separate from your loyalty to the United States, I would say Yes. I would say Of course I have a loyalty to the Jewish people. I feel an affinity and a connection and a concern for Jews around the world because we are Am Yisrael, we are a people. And so I guess, I totally understand that the suggestion that Jews are not good citizens is very, very dangerous and has a very, very ugly ugly history. But how can one talk about the fact that as Jews we do have a special for the Jewish people and for the Jewish state and I would imagine that if African Americans have a special concern for what happens in Haiti, why should that be considered illegitimate.
Comment: AIPAC slipped under the bar like this:
How does AIPAC get away with it?
It gets away with it because AIPAC's founder, I.L. Kenen, came up with a legal trick by which AIPAC is defined not as a lobby for a foreign state but for Americans who support that state. It's a critical distinction, the distinction (actually a legal fiction) that makes AIPAC's dominance over U.S. Middle East policy possible.
Every foreign country except Israel is represented in Washington by foreign agents who must register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Under its terms, the country in question is absolutely banned from participating in American elections. Every contact the agents have with Congress must be reported to the Department of Justice, along with how and where they spend their resources. This law applies to Canada as much as it does to Russia (which is now in hot water for not abiding with it). It does not apply to Israel.
Protests across the country have been called by the government's antisemitism ombudsman after he triggered a heated debate when he warned Jews last week not to wear the kippah because of the increasing likelihood of being attacked.
The German tabloid newspaper Bild has been one of the most vocal supporters of the protests, even publishing a cut-out kippah for readers to download and print.
Felix Klein, who was appointed as antisemitism ombudsman a year ago, told German media last week: "I cannot recommend that Jews wear the kippah whenever and wherever they want in Germany, and I say this with regret."
Comment: What if you choose not to wear the kippa? Will you be viewed as an anti-semite?

The faces of some of the Indigenous women and girls who have vanished or have been murdered in Canada in recent decades.
The report, obtained by CBC News and verified by sources, concludes that a genocide driven by the disproportionate level of violence faced by Indigenous women and girls occurred in Canada through "state actions and inactions rooted in colonialism and colonial ideologies."
"We do know that thousands of Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA (two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual) have been lost to the Canadian genocide to date," said the report, titled Reclaiming Power and Place.
"The fact that First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples are still here and that the population is growing should not discount the charge of genocide."
The report states that "due to the gravity of this issue," the inquiry is preparing a "supplementary report on the Canadian genocide of Indigenous peoples according to the legal definition of genocide," which will be posted at a later date on the inquiry website.
According to Business Insider, America's iconic deep-fried meat company, KFC, is meeting with major plant-based "meat" makers to discuss what a vegan version of fried chicken could look like. The revolutionary shift in company strategy comes as vegan, plant-based "meats" join the menu at chains like Del Taco and Burger King. And now, in a future that Kevin Hochman, the president of KFC's US business, once thought unthinkable, chicken chains might be next to jump on the meat-substitute bandwagon.
"If you would have asked me six months ago, I would have said no, to be completely honest with you," Hochman told Business Insider. "Because, we're about fried chicken."

Harris was seated onstage at a panel hosted by the liberal group MoveOn when a man walked directly toward her and took a handheld microphone she was clutching.
Harris stepped aside as the man tried to speak and organizers tried to stop him. He was quickly restrained by several men.
While it is not uncommon for protesters to interrupt presidential campaign events to promote their causes, it is rare for them to come into such close proximity to a candidate.
The 18-foot steel bollard wall is similar to the designs used by the Border Patrol, sealing off a part of the border that had been a striking gap in existing fencing, according to We Build the Wall, the group behind the new section.
The section was also built faster and, organizers say, likely more cheaply than the government has been able to manage in recent years.
Kris Kobach, a former secretary of state in Kansas and an informal immigration adviser to President Trump, says the New Mexico project has the president's blessing and says local Border Patrol agents are eager to have the assistance.
Comment:
UPDATE 31/05/2019: Sunland mayor's cease-and-desist order on construction rescinded and the project is nearly complete:
Over Memorial Day weekend the group began constructing a wall specifically along the southern border in New Mexico. These efforts were funded via GoFundMe donations.UPDATE 02/06/2019: Construction nearly complete, with zero illegal border crossings in the last week. The barrier is already being probed for weaknesses by drug cartel military:
Operations were halted Tuesday after [Sunland Park Mayor Javier] Perea issued a cease-and-desist order claiming that the group had failed to obtain the required permits from the city of Sunland Park before starting construction.
Kolfage doesn't appear too concerned by these bureaucratic threats. On Thursday he held a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the group's board members, including former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach and retired Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke.
"Look, never underestimate the determination of the American people," Clarke said."The American people have always been able to be counted on in a time of crisis. We've seen the stories with wildfires, with floods, with tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes that cause great devastation. The American people have always dug into their pockets to provide extra resources to help out. And that's kind of what happened here. This is a crisis here at the border."[...]
Kolfage also excoriated the media for having shared "misinformation" and "fake news" claiming that the GoFundMe he launched last year was just a scam.
"There was a lot of misinformation out there about fake news that we're misappropriating funds and stuff like that," he said. "It's one hundred percent not true."
The evidence was lying just behind him. He added that the reason his team had kept their plans secret for so long was to avoid drawing the attention of evil people."As you can see behind me we just built this wall with these funds. So that is why we kept this whole project a secret. We weren't going to risk someone's life down here dealing with the cartels. [Unclear what he said] is one of the most ruthless cartels. And you know I've faced a lot of trauma in my life. I've faced a lot of people like them in Iraq and I wasn't going to risk anyone's life. We kept it quiet."The full conference may be seen below:
The construction team has used over 600 concrete trucks so far. They are also pouring concrete for a 25 foot speedway behind the all for Border Patrol agents.
Border Patrol officials say the current project when complete will cut off 19 different foot trails on Mount Cristo Rey on the border. The cartels are bringing $100,000 to $200,000 in drugs each day through the open border in this area.
Mike added this on the effectiveness of the current project, "When I got here 17 days ago there were 450 people a night crossing. When equipment started arriving it went to 300. When manpower started working we went down to 200. When we started placing the bollards it went from 70 to 30 to 0. We've had no crossings in the last 8 days."
Then Mike added this on the very security situation, "We have military clad specialists from the cartels probing our line. The only thing stopping them is our specialists in the hills counteracting with them. We expect to be completed late, late, late this evening or early tomorrow with the first segment of the wall. "
When asked about the security needed to deal with the drug cartels, Mike replied, "It's extremely dangerous. They got within 15 feet of the excavators last night. They're coming down and trying to probe against the new wall... We have approximately 15 guards on post, armed security individuals."

The children’s commissioner for England said it was time to change laws there to protect children.
The bill, lodged by the Scottish Green party MSP John Finnie and supported by the Scottish National party government, is designed to give children equal protection from violence by removing the defence of "justifiable assault" in Scots law.
As the bill passed its crucial stage one vote by 80 votes to 29, Finnie said he wanted to send a clear message that physical punishment of children was not acceptable.
Leading the debate, the former police officer described it as an "international imperative" to bring Scotland into line with best practice across the world, noting 54 countries already prohibit the physical punishment of children, "with all the evidence showing that this is a positive and necessary step".

At about 7:21 p.m., a resident at Mountain View Apartment reported that he saw a tent in the woods near the complex and wanted an officer to take a look.
Two officers went into the woods to look for the tent, heading in from several different areas due to the thick underbush.
When the officers went into the woods from the southeast, near a cellphone tower on Winker Mill Road, they came across a body.
