A Michigan liquor store clerk fought back after a robber shoved a rifle into his mouth and called him a terrorist.

The gunman demanded money from the clerk, who is of Indian descent, and led him just before midnight Saturday into a back room at Bottlenecks Food and Drink Shop in Grand Rapids, reported WXMI-TV.

The 34-year-old clerk said the gunman accused him of being part of the Islamic State militant group and called him a "terrorist."

"I used to kill people like you in Iraq with no problem," the gunman said, and shoved the barrel of the gun into the clerk's mouth.

The clerk, whose name is Tony, grabbed the rifle just before the gunman pulled the trigger and was shot in the cheek.

The masked gunman, who was described as a black man about 6 feet tall, fired two more shots before running away with an undetermined amount of cash.

Tony called for help on his cell phone because the robber destroyed the store's phone, and he is expected to survive his wounds.

Los Angeles schools cancel classes due to threat

Classes were canceled Tuesday for the Los Angeles Unified School District after what the district's superintendent called a "rare" threat that comes amid new concerns about security nationwide.

An "electronic threat" received early Tuesday prompted the decision, school district police Chief Steve Zipperman said, adding that the threat "is still being analyzed."

District superintendent Ramon Cortines explained the "message" referred to backpacks and "other packages." He said many schools were threatened, though none by name. The threat was toward students in schools (as opposed to on buses).

New research has found that radiation from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan has reached more sites off North America's west cost with the highest levels of radiation detected to date.

From the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution:
Scientists monitoring the spread of radiation in the ocean from the Fukushima nuclear accident report finding an increased number of sites off the US West Coast showing signs of contamination from Fukushima. This includes the highest detected level to date from a sample collected about 1,600 miles west of San Francisco. The level of radioactive cesium isotopes in the sample, 11 Becquerel's per cubic meter of seawater (about 264 gallons), is 50 percent higher than other samples collected along the West Coast so far, but is still more than 500 times lower than US government safety limits for drinking water, and well below limits of concern for direct exposure while swimming, boating, or other recreational activities.

Taiwan legislature bans GMO ingredients in school meals

taiwan bans gmos
Today in Taiwan, the Legislature effectively banned the use of genetically modified food ingredients - or processed food with such ingredients - in school meals. Some amendments were made to the School Health Act by the amendment sponsors that would halt the use of GMOs in food prepared for students.

The Central News Agency in tandem with Focus Taiwan announced the report on December 14th, citing health concerns as a reason for officials sponsoring a bill that altered the Act, and calling the consumption of GMOs a "hidden food safety crisis."

One of the amendments' sponsors, Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Lin Shu-fen said that Taiwan imports more than 2.3 million tons of soybean each year and that 90 percent is either GMO or "animal feed" products. He echoes the health and safety concern over untested GM products on children saying most genetically engineered crops are grown using chemical herbicides and are "shipped through a procedure fit for animal feed." He argued that if such crops were used in food for schoolchildren "it would have a huge impact on their physical and psychological health.

Comment: It's heartening to see that more countries have done their research and are taking steps to protect future generations from this toxic experiment on humanity.

Inhuman cruelty: Crimes against Muslims hit record numbers across the U.S.

Crimes against Muslims and mosque attacks have hit an all-time high since the terrorist attacks in France and California. Some places of worship have hired armed guards or asked the federal government for help.

On Sunday, two mosques in Hawthorne, California became the latest targets in a rising number of anti-Muslim attacks following the terrorist shootings on a holiday party in San Bernardino when a radicalized Muslim couple killed 14 people and injured 21.

"A few of our members went to early morning prayer at about 5 a.m. and they found graffiti on the outside wall and 'Jesus' was written on the fence," Zahid Mian, a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Baitus-Salaam Mosque, told the San Bernardino Sun. "As Muslims we don't really find [the crosses] very offensive, but the act of vandalizing is disturbing."

Comment: While it's great to see the number of people standing up for the dignity of Muslims, the truth is that there is a vested interest in the 'powers that be' to equate all Muslims with terrorists, and to wage a war of genocide against them. As has been said before, never again is happening again. See also:

Would you be willing to defend your country against a foreign invasion?

That's all Putin is doing in Syria. He's just preempting the tidal wave of jihadis that'll be coming his way once the current fracas is over. He figures it's better to exterminate these US-backed maniacs in Syria now than face them in Chechnya, St Petersburg and Moscow sometime in the future. Can you blame him? After all, if Washington's strategy works in Syria, then you can bet they'll try the same thing in Beirut, Tehran and Moscow.

We're looking at a major financial crisis

financial crisis
Just within the past few days, three major high yield funds have completely imploded, and panic is spreading rapidly on Wall Street. Funds run by Third Avenue Management and Stone Lion Capital Partners have suspended payments to investors, and a fund run by Lucidus Capital Partners has liquidated its entire portfolio. We are witnessing a race for the exits unlike anything that we have seen since the great financial crash of 2008, and many of those that choose to hesitate are going to end up getting totally wiped out. In case you are wondering, this is what a financial crisis looks like. In 2008, other global stock markets started to tumble, then junk bonds began to crash, and finally U.S. stocks followed. The exact same pattern is playing out again, and the carnage that we have seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg.

Since the end of 2009, a high yield bond ETF that I watch very closely known as JNK has been trading in a range between 36 and 42. I have been waiting all this time for it to dip below 35, because I knew that would be a sign that the next major financial crisis was imminent.

Question

Did Trump just call out Israel for supporting ISIS on MSNBC?

Donald Trump
During a morning news program on MSNBC, Trump basically called out Israel for funding ISIS!

During the MSNBC program called "morning Joe", Trump walked right up to the edge of the line, made it clear to everyone he does not support Israel supporting ISIS all the while the program hosts beat around the bush trying to get Trump to say ISIS was only Arab. Trump held his ground extremely well, and made it very clear that the only reason why he did not directly indict Israel (without even mentioning Israel) was that he had a "lot of relationships with people" there. After this program, Trump canceled his trip to Israel which was supposed to happen two days later, obviously (as far as I see it) for the purpose of staying alive.

Comment: More likely because Netanyahu started posing as a man of principle and used Trump's recent comments about Muslims to express some faux indignation so that he could appear to be a just politician. So Netanyahu was critical of Trump and that is what the cancellation is probably about. For all we know about the malignantly narcissistic Trump, the following was retribution...

Trump just might be a good guy, it is really hard to tell because he plays the game so well.

Comment: Trump is NOT a probable good guy. If he's informed enough to suggest that Israel supports ISIS on TV then he has to know that the US has been a major force behind ISIS too - yet never a word about this little fact or the fact that the whole war on terror is a sham of epic proportions! Just because he's come out about Israel (sort of) doesn't mean that there's anything whatsoever good about the guy! Nuh uh. There are still major and fundamental connections missing from his worldview and from his brain. Still, its both horrifying, disgusting, and noteworthy to hear what's coming out of his mouth these days.

New Colorado police standards: Psych tests, no felonies

Colorado police
© Rick Wilking / ReutersColorado police
Candidates for law enforcement jobs in Colorado will have to pass psychological as well as physical tests, the state's police oversight board has decided. The body also ruled that officers with felony convictions will not be allowed to stay on the job.

The Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board announced the decisions on Monday. Though Colorado laws require a psychological evaluation before any applicant is hired by a police agency, previous POST guidelines limited the requirement to only the first time the person was hired.

Under the new rules, both psychological and physical evaluations would also be required every time an officer transfers to another agency if they had not gone through the tests within three years of the transfer, according to the Denver Post.

Comment: Sounds like a good change. Hopefully it makes a difference.

Despite the Obama administration's insistence in 2014 that illegal border crossings from Mexico are "an urgent humanitarian situation", the number of unaccompanied minors crossing over has soared to over 10,000 over the last two months in a new surge.

US Border and Customs Protection is reporting a 106 percent increase from last year's October 1-November 30 period, with 10,588 children apprehended, compared to last year's 5,129. The same can be said of family detentions to an even larger degree: The October 1-November 30 period last year saw 4,577 arrests whereas there were 12,505 over the same period in 2015 - a 176 percent increase.
