"We have decided to exit the relationships we have with companies providing prisoner and immigrant detention services for federal and state governments, as expeditiously as possible," a Bank of America spokesperson told FOX Business in a statement.
The second-largest bank in the U.S. said it has been "discussing the issue for some time." The decision came after the bank reviewed its policy through its environmental, social and governance (ESG) committee, Bloomberg reported. The company also met with its internal Hispanic and black leaders.
"The private sector is attempting to respond to public policy and government needs and demands in the absence of long standing and widely recognized reforms needed in criminal justice and immigration policies," a Bank of America spokesperson told FOX Business in a statement.

Jordan Peterson, an intellectual phenomenon and a self-described 'free speech guy', set foot on the floor of the US Congress in an ambitious bid to bridge the gaps between polarised American lawmakers.
The stated goal was to convince Democrats and Republicans of "the utility of putting a human face on the people who are across the aisle" and "decrease unnecessary tension," he said in an interview with The Daily Beast on Wednesday.
Peterson acknowledged he had doubts about whether he was the right person for the endeavour, but was keen to find out for himself.
Peterson reportedly had a bipartisan dinner on Tuesday night, accompanied by author Gregg Hurwitz, his former student and friend.
Details of the meeting remain a secret, but Hurwitz was quoted as saying that a total of 20 lawmakers were in attendance.
For the last three months, there has been a bombshell story hiding in plain sight about an obscure government document that has been criminally under-reported by the establishment press. Thankfully, Hollywood is here to save the day and shed some much needed light on this ever-elusive information.
The document I am referring to, of course, is the Mueller Report, which according to Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and Hillary Clinton fanatic Rob Reiner, is an absolute mystery to ordinary (non-famous) Americans. In a patriotic act the equivalent of storming the beach on D-Day, Reiner has done a truly courageous and heroic thing to bring attention to this long ignored story... he made a five-minute video with his Hollywood friends.
On Thursday, June 20, a group called Now This put out the video directed by Reiner, which features celebrities such as Robert De Niro, Laurence Fishburne, and even former president-on-TV Martin Sheen, highlighting what they believe to be the criminality of Trump exposed in the report.
Reiner has been in the vanguard of Hollywood's pro-Hillary contingent and is a vociferous proponent of Trump and Russia's collusion in the 2016 election. In 2017, he teamed with David Frum to start a group called the Committee to Investigate Russia. This group also put out a video, one that starred former president-in-the-movies, Morgan Freeman, and it boldly declared that "We Are At War" with Russia.

Comment: The first part of the above report would have been rightly regarded as material useful for a comedy sketch in the past - but it seems not anymore for a great number of people. This short Monty Python film extract nicely encapsulates the lunacy of the situation:
'How robots change the world', produced by Oxford Economics, examines the impact that the breathtaking growth in sophistication in robotic technology will have on economies across the globe.
Though there is undoubtedly huge potential for innovation and savings for businesses, there is also considerable cause for concern as well. In particular, the report raises the issue of job losses caused by robots taking on job tasks currently or previously performed by people. It notes that in many places "the impact will aggravate social and economic stresses from unemployment and income inequality."
A group of women wearing burkinis and activists from the Alliance Citoyenne rights group went to the Grenoble pools to protest a municipal ban on the Muslim swimwear on Sunday.
The women demanded that they be allowed to swim while wearing the garments, arguing that the rule requiring men to wear swim briefs and women to wear bikinis or swimsuits is discriminatory, and calling for the regulations to be changed to accomodate burkini wearers.

A man walks past the headquarters for the Church of Scientology in Clearwater, Fla., on Jan. 16, 2013.
The parallels between both organizations are many - from employing similar indoctrination and deception tactics, to going after members-turned-critics, to even using the same legal defense. Multiple interviews conducted by The Epoch Times - including one with a former Scientology member who also had taken NXVIM classes - confirmed many of them.
The similarities surfaced after The Epoch Times previously reported about the parallels between the NXIVM case and a new lawsuit launched last week against the Church of Scientology International (CSI) and its leader, David Miscavige. Both cases detail allegations of abuses from human trafficking to child abuse. Some say the new suit is unlikely to amount to anything, citing Scientology's vast financial resources and history of settling out of court.
Raniere was found guilty on all counts by a federal jury on June 19.
Marshae Jones was five months pregnant in December 2018 when, during a fight, Ebony Jemison shot her in the stomach - but a Jefferson County grand jury said the former mom-to-be was responsible because she started the brawl, AL.com reported.
"Let's not lose sight that the unborn baby is the victim here,'' said Pleasant Grove Police Lt. Danny Reid.
Initially, police charged Jemison, 23, with manslaughter but the charges were dismissed when a grand jury didn't indict her.
