Now Sean Samitt is facing a felony charge of filing a false police report, according to West Bloomfield Police.
Police said Samitt's Apple Watch helped them solve the case.
Samitt was arrested on Dec. 20 and arraigned the same day before Magistrate Julie Nelson-Klein at the 48th District Court in Oakland Country on one count of falsely reporting a felony, a crime punishable up to four years. According to authorities, his $7,500 bond was posted by Samitt's mother.
On Thursday, he appeared at the 48th District Court for a probable cause hearing. He is expected to appear for the preliminary examination on Jan. 14.
Samit reported he was attacked and stabbed in the abdomen by an unknown man in the parking lot at the Temple Kol Ami, where he worked as a cantorial soloist, which is a music director.
The fires have caused at least 18 deaths, destroyed thousands of homes, millions of hectares of land and killed hundreds of millions of animals.
A total of 183 people have been arrested by police in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania for lighting bushfires over the last few months, figures obtained by news agency AAP show.

Back for more: It is the fifth time the 58-year-old comedian has emceed the gala as he has done previously from 2010 to 2012 and once again in 2016 (pictured).
Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, and Gwyneth Paltrow were left with stunned looks on their faces as Gervais mocked Felicity Huffman over the college admission scandal, branded James Corden a 'massive p****' and ripped Judi Dench for 'licking her own a***hole' in his eight-minute speech.
In a particularly blunt moment, Gervais advised those receiving awards to avoid making political speeches because 'you're in no position to the public about anything' before adding: 'If you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God and f*** off.'
Boeing spokesman Gordon Johndroe said Sunday the U.S. planemaker "identified this issue as part of that rigorous process, and we are working with the FAA to perform the appropriate analysis. It would be premature to speculate as to whether this analysis will lead to any design changes."
The New York Times reported Boeing is reviewing whether two bundles of wiring are too close together, which could lead to a short circuit and potentially result in a crash if pilots did not respond appropriately.
Comment: It'd be a a bizarre miracle if Boeing managed to shift any of those planes considering the tragedies and relentless faults connected with them:

Police in Germany have shot dead a man who was trying to assail police officers with a knife in the west German city of Gelsenkirchen.
The man hit a patrol car with an object and sought to charge at officers standing by the vehicle "with a raised object," a police spokesman told news agency Agence France-Presse on Sunday.
Police also said the attacker had a knife behind his back and called out, warning him to stop his assault. However, these demands fell on deaf ears and a 23-year-old policeman shot and killed the potential assailant.
Comment: Those are just the latest in a number of recent 'random' attacks, as noted in French police shoot man wielding knife & yelling 'Allahu Akbar'- follows similar incident 2 days earlier:
Four police officers were also left dead in a knife attack at police headquarters in Paris in October.See also: Convenient London Bridge Terrorist Attack Occurs Two Weeks Before General Election: UPDATES
The goal with serving a en vogue meatless menu to guests before the televised ceremony is to "send a signal" about the potential dangers of climate change.
"If there's a way we can, not change the world, but save the planet, maybe we can get the Golden Globes to send a signal and draw attention to the issue about climate change," Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenzo Soria said in a statement. "The food we eat, the way we grow the food we eat, the way we dispose of the food is one of the large contributors to the climate crisis."
Entree items include king oyster mushrooms scallops and wild mushroom risotto. Brussel sprouts and carrots will also be served, and a golden beet soup will be the evening's appetizer.
There is no official word on whether the food was produced locally or what was used to deliver it, but Matthew Morgan, executive chef at The Beverly Hilton, which is where the ceremony takes place, said the dishes were already mostly available. They were simply vegan options in the past and Morgan simply enhanced the dishes for the new, slimmer menu.
"The charade of not being male, the legal fiction, it's over," James Shupe told PJ Media on Tuesday. "The lies behind my fictitious sex changes, something I shamefully participated in, first to female, and then to non-binary, have been forever exposed. A truthful accounting of events has replaced the deceit that allowed me to become America's first legally non-binary person."
"The legal record has now been corrected and LGBT advocates are no longer able to use my historic non-binary court order to advance their toxic agenda," he added. "I am and have always been male. That is my biological truth, the only thing capable of grounding me to reality."
While he became a hero for the transgender movement, Shupe now aims to dispel the lies of gender identity and reverse the harm caused by the precedent of his "non-binary" legal designation.

The survey, commissioned by BigRentz, paints a pretty grim picture when it comes to home care self-sufficiency. Apparently, if the Wi-Fi happens to falter, many adults won't be able to get anything done for themselves.
Respondents were asked about their ability to fix a variety of different house problems without turning to Google for help, and while close to half (43%) said they know how to unclog a drain, only 25% know how to install a drywall anchor. Another 39% said they can stop a running toilet all by themselves, and 38% can find a stud. Additionally, 31% know how to patch a hole in a drywall, and 29% said they can replace a washer on a leaky faucet.
In the run-up to the New Year, Western think tanks such as "Stratfor" and others traditionally publish their political forecasts. The eve of 2020 was no exception. But if you look at the published future scenarios, you can't help but notice that, unlike previous years, there is nothing in them about the prospects of the West itself.
In particular, there are no forecasts about a process like Brexit. And this - despite the fact that on January 31st 2020 the delay granted to the UK by the EU Council to leave the pan-European union ends.
It is even more strange that leading Western analysts have left the strengthening of republicanism in the United Kingdom almost unaddressed. The main expression of republican ideas in the UK is the Green Party of England and Wales. It advocates the "restoration" of the republic, which existed between 1649 and 1660. In 2019, the Greens doubled their representation in local authorities - from 178 to 372 seats. In the elections to the European Parliament, they secured the support of more than 2 million voters and held seven candidates in the EP. Finally, Caroline Lucas was elected to the House of Commons at the December election, and Natalie Bennett was elected to the House of Lords. The latter replaced former Conservative leader Theresa May as a peer.
Comment: It's likely that those think tanks that fail to mention Brexit are quite aware that it is never intended to go ahead:
