Jordan Peterson

University of Toronto professor Jordan Peterson speaks at th Sandford Fleming building in Toronto on Friday February 3, 2017.

He found one of the hateful posters on a telephone pole near his home a few nights ago.

In what is labelled a "Community Safety Bulletin," controversial University of Toronto Prof. Jordan Peterson - now a household name for his free speech advocacy and his refusal to use genderless pronouns - is painted as someone to fear who has "open associations with neo-nazis and the alt-right" and has even been referred to as a "Nazi philosopher."

JFK files and mainstream media denial

JFK assassination
The murder of President John F Kennedy 54 years ago has been described as the "crime of the century". If US and Western news media cannot discuss this seminal event openly and honestly, let alone investigate it, then what does that say about their credibility?

Such systematic media denial of reality inflicts irreparable damage to their credibility. How can they be taken seriously on any other matter, whether it is claims of "Russian meddling" or about the war in Syria, or the claims for Washington's aggression towards Iran and North Korea.

Residents watch as thick black smoke billows from the site of an explosion at a firecracker factory in Tangerang, Indonesia, on Thursday.
More than 40 people were killed after a fire ripped through a fireworks factory in a satellite city of Jakarta with bodies incinerated as people tried to escape from the back of the building.

"We found bodies burnt down to skeletons, some charred, some partially charred," Agus Margono, the head of operational control for Tangerang firefighters told Fairfax Media.

It is expected the death toll will be even higher than the 47 bodies uncovered at first with more victims likely to be found in the ash and rubble.

Mr Agus said bodies had been found banked against the back wall of the factory.

Bannon declares war on "phony culture brokers" in Hollywood who "turned a blind eye" to Weinstein

steve bannon
Steve Bannon, per an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, has opened a new front in Breitbart's war on the Left. After already seizing several victories in his war on the GOP establishment, Bannon says he's taking direct aim at the "phony culture brokers" in Hollywood who "disingenuously seized the moral high ground" when Trump's "Access Hollywood" recording was revealed but has simultaneously ignored "Weinstein's horrible behavior" for years.

"Hollywood isn't a new battlefront for Breitbart, it's the original battle,"
Bannon tells The Hollywood Reporter. "The fact it's blowing itself up isn't a new stage in the culture war, it's an inevitable one."

"They've ignored half the country's values for far too long and now these Hollywood elitists' values are publicly on display, and bankrupt," Bannon says. Adds Marlow, "Hollywood turned a blind eye to Weinstein's horrible behavior, now it's turning a blind eye to the conservatives who work there and who make up half its audience."

"These are the same people who disingenuously seized the moral high ground as they attacked our president based on a standard they do not live by," Bannon says. "Americans took their country back not only from the permanent political class but also from these phony culture brokers who have waged war against their way of life for decades. Make no mistake, we didn't start this war, but how Hollywood responds from here will determine whether or not it survives."

Poll finds British MPs don't know where money actually comes from

MPs never tire of telling the public 'there's no magic money tree' to pay for vital services. But it appears most politicians have no idea where money actually comes from, according to a new survey.

Campaign group Positive Money commissioned polling company Dods to give a cross-section of MPs four statements about Britain's money and banking system, and to ask whether they're true or false. Just 15 percent were aware that new money is created when banks make loans, and existing money is destroyed when members of the public repay loans. Some 62 percent thought this was false, while 23 percent responded 'don't know.' The Tories seemed to have a slightly better idea, with 19 percent answering correctly, compared to just 5 percent of Labour MPs.

Positive Money explains most money takes the form of bank deposits, which are mostly created through commercial banks making loans. The most recent figures suggest that 97 percent of money exists as bank deposits, with only 3 percent created by the Bank of England and Royal Mint as cash, the campaign group says.

Norwegian rescuers not optimistic about finding missing Russian helicopter crew

There is next to no chance that any of the eight Russians who were onboard the Mi-8 helicopter that crashed off the island of Spitzbergen on Thursday is alive, a spokesman for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Northern Norway told TASS on Friday.

"To be honest, it is most likely that everyone onboard crashed into the ocean with the helicopter. It is not very realistic to hope to find anybody alive. What we hope might have happened is that someone hit the water outside the helicopter and maybe was able to get to the shore. It is still a search and rescue operation, but this is more of a formal thing," the spokesman said.

More than 24 hours have elapsed since the beginning of the rescue operation but so far it has yielded no results. All the rescuers have found are spots of fuel and air bubbles on the water surface several kilometers off the place the helicopter was to land at. According to Norwegian rescuers, several vessels will continue the search operation through the night. In the morning, helicopters will join the operation.

War against truth: Censorship of YouTube demanded by New York Times and Wall Street Journal

You Tube censorship
In two articles appearing Tuesday on the front pages of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, the newspapers laid out justifications for censoring the online streaming service YouTube, alleging the the service is helping disseminate Russian propaganda.

The articles note the substantial reach of RT, the international television network funded by the Russian government, on YouTube, which is owned by Google. RT's videos have as many views as CNN, and substantially more than Fox News.

Citing a January 6 report by the US director of national intelligence, the Times describes RT as the "Kremlin's 'principal international propaganda outlet' and a key player in Russia's information warfare operations around the world."

The article complains of RT's "prominent presence on YouTube's search results," which have allowed it to gain "one of the largest online audiences of any news organization in the world."
