NASA is warning of a slew of asteroids headed Earth's way in the coming days and weeks, some coming between us and the moon, with others measuring roughly the same size as the Golden Gate Bridge.

On February 10 alone, at least four Near Earth Objects (NEOs) are due to buzz the Earth.

The nine-meter asteroid 2021 CX has already passed the planet at a safe distance of 1.9 million kilometers.

Space rocks including the Statue of Liberty-sized, 119-meter long 2019 YP5 and the 5-meter 2008 DB will follow shortly after at a distance of 3.1 million km and 5 million km respectively.

Bringing up the rear on Wednesday will be 2021 CE3, with a diameter of 16m, which will pass the planet at a distance of 7.3 million km.

Video shows meteor fireball blazing over Derbyshire, UK

This video shows the incredible moment a fireball was seen falling from the sky in Derbyshire.

The footage above shows the fireball suddenly appearing from absolutely nowhere in Whaley Bridge at 5.42am this morning, exactly a year to the day after one was spotted in Derby.

The clip is from the CCTV cameras of Rachael Magowen's home in the Derbyshire town.

Mrs Magowan was left amazed after seeing the clip and even more so when she found out Derbyshire Live ran a very similar story on February 4, 2020.

On that day it was reported how Gary Rogers, 52, was lying in bed at his home in Stenson Fields when he got a notification alert on his phone.

Comment: According to the American Meteor Society (AMS) the event (677-2021) was observed from all over the UK and parts of the Netherlands. Another video of the event was uploaded to the AMS website (credit to Stewart Long):

Meteor fireball flies across Kansas sky

fireball
There were several reports Sunday night and early Monday morning of a fireball lighting up the sky, including right here in Kansas.

Zackery Cheney submitted the video to Eyewitness News that he captured Sunday night near Andale.

Cheney said he was northbound on Andale Road, about four miles south of Andale when his dash cam caught what appears to be a ball of light shoot across the sky then dissolve.

According to the American Meteor Society, there were 31 reports of fireballs in the sky between Sunday night and Monday morning. Reports were made in the neighboring states of Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma and as far away as Texas, Wisconsin, New York, England and Scotland.

Kota Kinabalu: The mysterious explosion heard by many in Sipitang, Labuan, Lawas (Sarawak), and parts close to these areas on Sunday (Jan 31) could have been a sonic boom or a meteorite which exploded in mid-air.

The Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD) said it received numerous reports from Bruneians who also heard the mysterious loud noise.

The PABD then issued a notice seeking eyewitness accounts of the phenomenon, which is believed to have occurred at about 11am.

Some Bruneians later shared their experiences and uploaded blurry pictures of what appears to be a fireball trailing smoke to PABD's Facebook page.

Comment: Dashcam footage of the event has just emerged on Twitter:

Blazing meteor fireball streaks through the sky over Granada, Spain

Blazing Asteroid Streaks Through The Sky

Blazing Asteroid Streaks Through The Sky Over Granada at 83,000 kilometres Per Hour.
An asteroid that entered the earth's atmosphere at a speed of about 83,000 kilometres per hour flew over the sky of the Andalucían province of Granada at 1.19 pm today, Friday.

Due to its high luminosity, it could be seen from the south to the centre of the country. Astrophysicist José María Madiedo, of the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia, of the Higher Council for Scientific research tweeted the news this afternoon to his thousands of anxious star watchers.

Meteor fireball filmed by dash cam over Zagreb, Croatia

fireball
Our colleague Mario from Vidilab, found himself on the highway at 3:50 p.m. On some 20 minutes drive from Karlovac to Zagreb, the dash cam camera of his car recorded a nice meteor crash, as you can see in this video.

There was no explosion which is sometimes created when a slightly larger space rock explodes in a collision with the atmosphere. It seems that the meteor (or meteroid) did not hit the ground, which would allow it to be called a meteorite and probably evaporated in the atmosphere, but if you find a suspicious pebble in that location or see a crater on the ground, you may come into possession of a space body.

Question

Explosive 'boom' noise heard in parts of northwest Georgia

Mystery boom (stock)
An explosive booming noise has people up in northwest Georgia scratching their heads - including 911 operators.

On Facebook, Floyd County E-911 reported that the county call center received multiple calls regarding "some type of loud boom or explosion" in the area of Lindale Mill.

The agency also added that it received calls from the Jamestown, Twickenham, Hampton East, Eden Valley, Maple, Darlington and Saddle Mountain areas as well as the Zaxby's on Turner McCall.

Some reports suggested the noise shook their homes and windows. However, units who responded to these calls have yet to suggest what exactly may have caused the noise - or noises.
