A high-ranking Israeli official on Sunday slammed a statement from Catholic bishops, who called for international organizations to lead the cause of Palestinian statehood.

Greek-Melchite Archbishop Cyrille Bustros sparked an interreligious firestorm when he suggested that Israel was "using Scripture" to continue its occupation of Palestinian territory.

"The Holy Scriptures cannot be used to justify the return of Jews to Israel and the displacement of the Palestinians," Bustros said at the close of a two-week conference in Rome, Italy, "to justify the occupation by Israel of Palestinian lands."

The Archbishop then questioned the biblical idea of a "promised land" set aside by a specific group of people.

"We Christians cannot speak of the promised land as an exclusive right for a privileged Jewish people,"Bustros continued. "This promise was nullified by Christ. There is no longer a chosen people - all men and women of all countries have become the chosen people."

Bustros led the group that drafted the synod's concluding statement on Israel and the Palestinians.

The controversial comments came at the conclusion of a two-week Vatican conference assembled to discuss the plight of Christians in the Middle East.

Pope Benedict XVI was in attendance at the synod and celebrated Mass in St. Peter's Cathedral on Sunday with the bishops.

Peter Dale Scott is considered the father of "Deep Politics" - the study of hidden permanent institutions and interests whose influence on the political realm transcends the elected, appointed and career officials who come and go.

What follows is based on a recent Scott lecture entitled "The JFK Assassination and Other Deep Events", and will be expanded on further in his next book, The American Deep State, due out in November.

For some time now, I have been analyzing American history in the light of what I have called structural deep events: events, like the JFK assassination, the Watergate break-in, Iran-Contra, or 9/11, which repeatedly involve law-breaking or violence, are mysterious to begin with, are embedded in ongoing covert processes, have political consequences that enlarge covert government, and are subsequently covered up by systematic falsifications in the mainstream media and internal government records.

The more I study these deep events, the more I see suggestive similarities between them, increasing the possibility that they are not unrelated external intrusions on American history, but parts of an endemic process, sharing to some degree or other a common source.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will celebrate his birthday on October 7 in the Siberian taiga, a vast forested area in the northern regions of Russia covering hundreds of thousands of square miles, Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday.

"Putin has booked a holiday for tomorrow. Tonight he will fly over to Siberia, to the Siberian taiga, 300-400 kilometers away from the nearest town or village, where he will relax on his birthday," Peskov said.

Peskov added that no "official meetings" were planned for Russian leader's birthday.

"Most likely, everyone will send their best wishes to the President tomorrow. Although I cannot tell you who he will be with, because I do not know," Peskov said.

"Everyone who can, will be able to reach him by phone. Also everyone who wants to will be able to send telegrams, just like they do every year. We receive a huge number of letters, best wishes, telegrams, etc.," Peskov commented.

English is not the spoken language in a record 20 percent of American homes, a study has found. Arabic and Urdu ‒ Pakistan's national language ‒ are the fastest-growing languages spoken in US houses, according to the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).

CIS revealed data parsed from the United States Census Bureau's 2013 American Community Survey (ACS), which was released last month. The ACS is a mandatory, ongoing statistical survey which the US government uses to give communities the current information they need to plan investments and services, according to the Census Bureau website.

The non-profit research organization focused on the part of the survey that looked at languages spoken by those five years of age and older. The three relevant questions on the ACS look at whether a language other than English is spoken in the home, what language that is, and how well each person canvassed speaks English.

In 2013, a record 61.8 million US residents (native-born, legal immigrants, and illegal immigrants) spoke a language other than English at home - an increase of 2.2 million from 2010, the survey found. That number has grown by nearly 15 million since 2000 and by almost 30 million since 1990.

Comment: CIS, and other racist groups of their likes, can blame "foreigners" all they want for the troubles that face America today, but they are looking at the wrong direction. As Charlie Reese wrote recently:

Ukrainian military and politicians say Kiev wildly understating combat deaths

In the past two weeks persistent rumors that Kiev has been hiding thousands of killed and wounded Ukrainian servicemen and 'volunteers battalion' casualties have forced their way into the Ukrainian press.

The most vocal allegations of a cover-up of Ukrainian combat deaths comes not from Russian media or the leaders of the 'separatist' Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, but from right wing MP and Radical Party leader Oleh Lyashko, and from the commander of Kiev's 'Donbas Battalion' Semyon Semchenko.

Last month on his Facebook page Lyashko directly accused President Petro Poroshenko of hiding over 8,000 Ukrainian combat deaths -- a number nearly eight times the 'official' KIA figures reported by the English-language Kyiv Post, which as of Friday was still stubbornly reporting 'only' 974 confirmed Ukrainian combat deaths - a highly dubious figure that has barely budged since the disastrous battle for Ilovaisk in early September.

According to Myroslava Petsa, a correspondent for Ukraine's 5th Channel, Defense Minister Valeriy Heletey refused to discuss the casualties from in the Ilovaisk disaster in a recent parliamentary hearing. Ms. Petsa tweeted on October 1st that Heletey referred to the casualty lists from the Ilovaisk battle as classified. But who is Lieutenant General Heletey trying to hide Kiev's true losses from, the Donbas militias or the Ukrainian people?

It's easy to dismiss Semchenko as an incompetent battlefield commander seeking to excuse his failures, and to call Lyashko a fascist clown who kidnaps alleged 'separatists' and strips them down to their underwear for videotaped interrogations. But Lyashko's estimate of Ukraine's total KIA is consistent with numbers put forward by pro-Novorossiya sources such as Colonel Cassad's blog. It's also consistent with the grim casualty reports from the bloody battle underway as of this writing for the Donetsk airport.

Comment: Every indication is that this is the case. Just like the U.S. in Iraq, Kiev is covering up the true amount of combat deaths, probably in a feeble attempt not to let the people know what a failure their 'war' is, and how many young men have been sent to their deaths, deaths which occurred while on a mission to murder civilians -- men, women, and children -- in east Ukraine.

At least 94 people were killed today and 69 more were wounded. The deadliest attack occurred in Hit where airstrikes accidentally hit a market. It is unclear if the strikes were conducted by the Iraqis, who often strike civilians in Falluja, or one of the coalition partners.

The Netherlands and Australia have launched their first combat flights over Iraq, while Belgium conducted its first airstrike.

Authorities revealed that the Aza Tribe struck a secret deal with Iraqi security forces: They would fight the militants in exchange for weapons. The deal appears to have helped security forces reclaim 13 villages. A general bypassed Baghdad and struck the deal directly with tribal leaders. They are just one tribe among several who are working, somewhat reluctantly, with Iraqi troops. Their fight may have gotten more difficult as now the militants in Diyala are reportedly using entire families as human shields.

In Hit, 22 civilians were killed and 43 were wounded during an airstrike that hit a market. The victims were mostly women and children. There are unconfirmed reports that coalition fighters may have been behind the airstrike. Airstrikes also killed a number of militants.

Nazis in Ukraine pull down a Lenin statue, Western media silent

The Western press recently reported the destruction of a Soviet-era statue of Vladimir Lenin in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. The Washington Post would claim in its report, "Ukrainians just pulled down a massive Lenin statue. What does that signal for Russia?," that:
Anti-Russian protesters in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, pulled down a massive statue of Vladimir Lenin late Sunday, a sign of hardening anger toward the Kremlin in an eastern Ukrainian area where sympathies are split between Kiev and Moscow.

The pro-European protests that swept Ukraine in the winter were accompanied by a wave of Lenin statues being pulled down, eliminating symbolic vestiges of the Soviet Union that had endured after its 1991 breakup. But few such statues were toppled in eastern Ukraine, which has long been a bastion of pro-Russian sentiment and where separatists have embarked on an insurgency that has cost thousands of lives.
As usual with reports from the Western press, the deception can manifest itself just as much from what is omitted as from what is actually said. The Washington Post maintains that those who destroyed the statue were merely "anti-Russian protesters." In reality, it was a mob led by literal Neo-Nazis of the notorious Azov Battalion - fielded and directed by Kiev's Interior Ministry itself.

While the Washington Post attempts to claim the statue's destruction was a manifestation of the people's will in eastern Ukraine, it was in reality a stunt pulled by some of Kiev's most vicious, ultra-right, and illegitimate supporters - supporters the West works continuously to obfuscate from public view.

Azov's role in the Kharkiv incident was revealed not by the Russian media, but instead by the European Union and NATO's own Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) monitors on the ground in Ukraine. Submitting daily reports often ignored by the Western press, the OSCE stated in its September 29, 2014 briefing that (emphasis added):
On 28 September, at 14:30hrs, the SMM observed in Kharkiv a large demonstration of some 2,000 pro-Ukraine supporters gathering in front of the Opera house. The crowd, composed of men and women of different ages and including children, was led by members of the "Azov" volunteer battalion, as well as young men and women with masks. Some of the demonstrators marched towards Liberty Square, where Lenin's monument was located. There, the SMM observed a group of young men with masks trying to climb on top of Lenin's statue, while the crowd present on the square had increased to approximately 5,000 people. The demonstrators who had climbed up to the statue began using an electric cutting instrument to dismantle the base of the statue. Whilst not visible on the square, the SMM observed the police deploy and set up an outer perimeter cordon around the square and three buses of police behind the regional administration building. At 22:40hrs Lenin's Statue was pulled down by the demonstrators. As the SMM left the scene, it did not observe any further incident.

If there's one thing we should have learned over the past 13 years of war, it's that war is good business for those in the business of war. Unfortunately, while profits for the Pentagon's contractors increase, so does the cost to taxpayers in billions in waste, fraud, and abuse. As America embarks on yet another war in the Middle East, Congress needs to act now to stop this unjustified bonanza for the Pentagon's contractors.

The most recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan offer an ominous example about what can happen when the rush to war is met with sharp spending increases coupled with little to no oversight or fiscal restraint. The Commission on Wartime Contracting -- a bipartisan congressional body -- estimates that there was $30 to $60 billion in waste, fraud and abuse associated with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- a total of $12 million per day. Even worse, at least $6 billion is completely missing, never accounted for, gone forever. That is a stunning amount of taxpayer dollars -- yours and mine -- to simply disappear into the wind.

Among the most egregious examples of corporate and governmental malfeasance during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan was a multibillion-dollar no-bid contract for Halliburton's Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR) division to rebuild and operate Iraqi oil fields. Halliburton was found guilty of price gouging on everything from the supply of oil for military vehicles to feeding the troops; shoddy workmanship that resulted in scores of unfinished buildings and inadequate supplies of electricity; and life-threatening situations like defective showers that electrocuted a soldier. A long list of other examples is available in the reports of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, whose investigations helped spur the convictions of 82 companies and individuals of illegal activities connected to contracting in Iraq.

Comment: Useful information, but pointless hand-wringing. The military has been in firm control of US spending for decades.

For the second year in a row, America's richest 14 individuals made more from their annual investments than the $80 billion provided for people in need of food. Nearly half of the food-deprived are children. Perversely, the food stamp program was CUT because of a lack of federal funding.

In a testament to the inability -- or unwillingness -- of Congress to do anything about the incessant upward re-distribution of America's wealth, the richest 14 Americans increased their wealth from $507 billion to $589 billion in ONE YEAR from their investment earnings. As stated by Forbes, "All together the 400 wealthiest Americans are worth a staggering $2.29 trillion, up $270 billion from a year ago."

Billions of dollars of wealth, derived from years of American productivity, have been transferred to a few financially savvy and well-connected individuals who have spent a generation shaping trading rules and tax laws to their own advantage. It's so inexplicably one-sided that the 2013 investment earnings of the richest 1% of Americans ($1.8 trillion) was more than the entire budget for Social Security ($860 billion), Medicare ($524 billion), and Medicaid ($304 billion).

Why Does So Little of Our National Wealth Go to Feed People or Provide Jobs?

The fruits of American productivity go to the richest Americans, who can afford to hold onto their fortunes, defer taxes indefinitely, and then pay a smaller capital gains rate when they eventually decide to cash in. Worse yet, they can stash their winnings overseas, tax-free. It is estimated that $7.6 trillion of personal wealth is hidden in tax havens. That means, stunningly, that $1 of every $12 of worldwide wealth is hidden in a haven.

Comment: What is at issue here are psychopaths in positions of power and their influence on society. They are the heads of State, corporations, media, education agencies. Groups of people who are lead by these cretins tend to adopt the apathetic, self-centered nature of the psychopath. The U.S. is headed for economic destruction due to the 'leadership' of these conscious-less creatures. Are you prepared?

ISIS jihadi fighters have been using bullets manufactured in the United States during the militant group's bloody campaign across Iraq and Syria, according to a new report.

Weapons-tracking organization Conflict Armament Research worked alongside Kurdish forces to recover more than 1,700 cartridges used by ISIS. More than 20 percent of the ammunition was U.S.-made. "[ISIS] appear to have acquired a large part of their current arsenal from stocks seized from, or abandoned by, Iraqi defense and security forces," the report said. Most of the U.S. ammo was manufactured in the first decade of the 21st century, when Washington was bolstering Iraqi forces following the fall of Saddam Hussein.

The ammo recovered in the study came from 21 different countries and dated from 1945 to present day. The biggest contributors were China and the Soviet Union, with most of their ammo originating in the 1970s and 1980s. The study also found modern Iranian ammunition. "If transferred deliberately, the presence of this ammunition outside of Iran violates U.N. Security Council Resolution 1737 (2006), which prohibits Iran's export of ammunition," it noted.

Conflict Armament Research Investigators found this expended ammunition at ISIS firing positions in northern Iraq. The bullets were manufactured at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri.

Comment: How nice for ISIS that the Iraqi army abandoned so many supplies for them to use. Saves money for hiring more goons, though they are doing well on their oil smuggling. Did the CIA order this?
