Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said Thursday that the new facility will give logistical support to China's fleet that performs escort duties in the Gulf of Aden and off the Somali coast.
Since May 2015, there were reports on possible talks between Djibouti's President Ismail Omar Guelleh with the Chinese over a possible military base. China's Foreign Ministry confirmed the negotiations for the first time in November of last year.
Three political scientists have tracked data all the way back to 1976 to analyze the lobbying activity of former members of Congress in an eye-opening new study.
The results of the study, "Who walks through the revolving door? Examining the lobbying activity of former members of Congress," appearing in the journal Interest Groups & Advocacy, make clear that there has been a substantial increase in the number of members becoming lobbyists after retirement.
On Monday Italian oil and gas engineering contractor Saipem and the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on major oil and gas projects in Iran.
The two companies came to the agreement during the course of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Italy, and signed the memorandum in the presence of Rouhani and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
Brussels-based Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN) newspaper claims to have come in possession of a security service paper dating April 2012, which indicated some suspicious activity in an apartment in the Brussels district of Molenbeek.
The officers recorded residents discussing possible attacks against Western democracy and ways to acquire explosives and weapons. The cell members also traveled to Syria several times, the paper says.
The apartment belonged to Gelel Attar, currently in detention over suspicion of being directly involved in Paris terror attacks on November 13 last year.
Comment: Perhaps the Belgian security services allowed the attacks to happen to further the tightening of security in the EU and continue the West's plan of demonizing Muslims:

"The US leadership has set an objective - to dominate the world. Therefore they don't need a strong Russia. On the contrary, they want to weaken our country as much as possible," the head of Russia's Security Council said in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda published Tuesday.
Patrushev added that in reaching that objective the US does not exclude even the disintegration of Russia to gain access to its lucrative natural resources. "Washington believes it could become a catalyst in this [disintegration] process."
Moscow is concerned with NATO's military buildup and delegation to the alliance of certain global functions in open violation of the international law, he said.
Comment: The Russians clearly know the score, both of the intent of the US government against them and the US stranglehold over NATO and Europe.
The German government has reacted to criticism of secretive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations by providing a reading room in the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs, where politicians will be able to read TTIP documents.
TTIP is a bilateral trade agreement between the EU and US that aims to reduce regulatory barriers to trade. In practice, the deregulation threatens the dismantling of legal standards in areas such as privacy, environmental protections, food safety, public health and safety at work. It also strengthens copyright and patent restrictions which, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, "would never pass muster under public scrutiny."
"As you know, Daesh (Islamic State, previously ISIS/ISIL) enjoyed Turkish money for oil for a very, very long period of time. I hope that it will be ended," Moshe Yaalon told reporters in Athens on Tuesday after meeting his Greek counterpart, Panos Kammenos, Reuters reports.
"It's up to Turkey, the Turkish government, the Turkish leadership, to decide whether they want to be part of any kind of cooperation to fight terrorism. This is not the case so far," he said.
Earlier, Russia had accused Turkey of shady dealings with ISIS. In December, the Russian Defense Ministry released maps and satellite images it said proved that Turkey was the main consumer of oil smuggled out of Syria and Iraq by the terrorists. The ministry also claimed that the Turkish president and his family were involved in the criminal dealings.
I originally came across this interview after seeing a tweet referencing a 25 year old interview during which Trump expressed admiration for how strongly Chinese authorities cracked down on dissent in Tiananmen Square in 1989. I immediately thought to myself that this would be the perfect fodder to further elucidate the kind of cold, brutal, authoritarian leader Trump undoubtedly would be as President.
While that particular quote didn't disappoint, I decided to read further and came away with many additional observations. I think these observations are worth sharing since I think there's a very real chance Trump will be elected President within the next ten years. His chances ride on the fact that the current system is terminally corrupt, as well as socially and economically bankrupt. It will crash and burn, whether in slow motion like the past eight years, or very rapidly over the next several. Someone will likely step in to fill this void, and Trump has the personality type and understanding of human nature to possibly propel himself into the position when the timing is right. Is the time right in 2016? Probably not, but a President Trump is far more likely to occur in our lifetimes than many of us want to admit.
Comment: Trump has the traits of a Right Wing Authoritarian and checks many of the box of a full blown narcissist. Only time will tell if TPTB allow Trump to be 'elected.' The American people look to be so far gone that they would follow someone who is offering solutions at any cost given the mess psychopaths have made of the United States. This echos the rise of Hitler in a Germany desperate for change and solutions after suffering severe social and economic problems in the Weimar Republic. Along with this, given that there are echos of the destruction of a large portion of the Jewish people during WWII with the current day maltreatment and demonization of Muslims should give us all pause.
"A secret war is being waged by Saudi Arabia and Gulf Cooperation Council states which are slashing oil prices so as to strangle Iran, Russia, Algeria and Venezuela, as well as the entire 'anti-American' axis created by these countries," Tahhan said.
He explained that all those countries had refused to adhere to Washington's demands with regard to Ukraine, Syria and Yemen. According to Tahhan, the oil spat between Riyadh and Tehran is unlikely to lead to a war, given Iran's military potential and the sheer territory of the country. What's more, he said, Saudi Arabia will fail to prod the UN or the West to issue a resolution to condemn Iran and authorize invasion of the country.
Rather, Saudi Arabia itself may be attacked by Iran's allies, such as Yemen, a scenario that Tahhan said may see Saudi oil fields destroyed and oil prices rise. At the same time, he noted that the United States is unlikely to say "no" to the war between Saudi Arabia and Iran, because Washington could supply arms to both parties to the conflict.
The recent developments between Russia, Iran and China, right after the easing of the anti-Iranian sanctions, might be more important and significant than people actually realize, American investigative journalist Carol Gould, currently based in the UK, said during a live broadcast on Iranian news channel Press TV.
The journalist was referring to the recent two-day visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Tehran and the outcome of his trip.
Xi Jinping was the first international leader to head to Iran after the trade restrictions were removed and capped his visit with 17 agreements for cooperation in areas including energy, trade, and industry. The two countries also agreed to increase bilateral trade more than 10-fold to $600 billion in the next decade.
Comment: Yes, the world is moving on from the dying ways of the Anglo-American empire. A new environment is being forged. While this coming period is expected to be particularly tumultuous for the US and those most closely aligned with it, new possibilities are emerging that can provide for a different kind of global community.

Comment: Why is this significant?
90% of world trade passes through the Red Sea and the Strait of Malacca, which is why Europeans (and then Americans) have controlled these two chokepoints for so long.
But not for much longer.
