Cuba has begun to escalate its militarization, as regional developments indicate continual U.S backed destabilization. To counter this threat, Russia will lend Cuba more than $50 million for purchases of Russian military equipment, the Russian daily Kommersant reported, citing two sources in the area of technical and military cooperation of the two countries.

According to sources, the respective agreements will be signed during the 16th Intergovernmental Committee on Economy, Trade and Technical-Scientific Cooperation to be held in Havana on October 29 and 30. However, neither Russia nor Cuba confirmed the reports.

"Together with this agreement, a set of general economic documents and agreements initiated by Russia's finance ministry will be signed, but with other values," a source familiar with the negotiations said.

Cuba may use the resources to acquire armored vehicles and helicopters. "Separately, spare parts, tools and equipment for previously purchased vehicles, such as T-62 tanks or APC-60 armored vehicles, should be purchased," the source said.

Trump calls Democratic Party megadonor Wacky Tom Steyer a 'lunatic', Resistance erupts

Billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer has accused US President Donald Trump of normalizing political violence, which instantly got Trump's Twitter thumbs working. Steyer was among those targeted in this week's mail bomb plot.

Trump went on one of his signature Twitter rants against Steyer on Sunday after CNN aired a wide-ranging interview with the billionaire hedge fund manager. Steyer, a vocal Trump critic, has accused the president of creating an atmosphere of hatred in society by pitting his supporters against everyone else.

Steyer was speaking in particular about the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre in which gunman Robert Bowers killed 11 people and injured six.

"I think his [Trump's] response to the tragedy was appropriate, but there's something much bigger than that going on here, which is the atmosphere that he's created - and that the Republican Party has created - in terms of political violence," Steyer said, adding that he was "absolutely" blaming Trump for the toxic atmosphere in the country.

Steyer checked all the marks, calling Trump "corrupt," saying he "has been breaking the law systematically," is generally unfit to run the country and must be impeached.

Despicable: Corporate media rarely informs the public when its commentators are paid shills for foreign governments

David Rothkopf
Unbelievably - Rothkopf has the audacity to criticize Trump for having "repeatedly shown great fondness for foreign leaders-even despots and known murderers, human rights abusers and criminals", while Rothkopf himself is literally a paid agent working to disseminating propaganda for one of the most repressive regimes on the planet, one that does much of the Saudis' dirty work for it in Washington. And the fact that the Daily Beast makes no disclosure of any of this is what makes this practice - having paid lobbyists and consultants for foreign regimes and corporations masquerade as objective and neutral analysts of the news - such a massive journalistic scandal and fraud.

- From today's Intercept article: MSNBC and Daily Beast Feature UAE Lobbyist David Rothkopf With No Disclosure: a Scandalous Media-Wide Practice
Much of the American public despises mainstream corporate media, but rather than engage in some self-reflection and admit failure they just complain about Trump. It's critical we recognize that mass media in the U.S. is very much part of the very same discredited establishment it's supposed to report on, thus its response to justified criticism is likewise establishment-esque. Blame the readers, blame Trump, blame anyone but themselves.

Baroness Tonge suggests Israeli actions to blame for 'reigniting' hatred against Jewish people

Baroness Tonge has been accused of antisemitism over a social media post in which she blamed the Israeli government for the hatred behind the mass shooting in Pittsburgh that claimed the lives of 11 people.

The independent peer - who resigned from the Liberal Democrats in 2016 - criticised the country on Facebook in the immediate aftermath of the attack on the Tree of Life synagogue.

Comment: Is the Baroness wrong? Not only does Israel's action vis a vis the Palestinians breed hatred within for the "sh*tty little country", it actively supports terrorist groups who oppose their geopolitical enemies.

'Trump of the Tropics' wins Brazilian presidential election

Jair Bolsonaro emerged as the winner of Brazil's presidential election runoff, making him the first conservative candidate to be elected in the country in 20 years.

With over 99 percent of the ballots counted in Brazil's presidential election, Bolsonaro appears to have won big on Sunday evening. The Social Liberal Party candidate and longtime congressman has taken 55 percent of the vote. Fernando Haddad, the Workers' Party candidate and former mayor of Sao Paulo, has received just shy of 45 percent.

The two leading candidates competed in a runoff after no one captured an outright majority in the general election in early October.

Bolsonaro's victory represents a major change of course for Latin America's biggest nation - and the fifth most populous country in the world. The leftist Workers' Party has won every presidential election since 2003. However, after years of violence, economic stagnation and political corruption, the Brazilian electorate has yearned for change.

MI5 to begin conducting operations on right-wing movements in the UK

The MI5 domestic intelligence service of Britain has taken over the responsibility in combating extreme right-wing terrorism in the country as fears grow that white supremacists are increasing their efforts to foment violent racial conflict in the UK

The Guardian newspaper said in a report on Sunday that MI5 will lead the mission to monitor far-right extremism, a responsibility that had previously been assigned to the British police.

The MI5 has earlier been tasked with countering terrorism linked to Takfiri ideologies, like Daesh and al-Qaeda, and those related to a separatist movement in Northern Ireland.

Comment: The MI5 probably already monitors many of the right wing movements popping up in the UK in recent times. This announcement is likely made more as a smear to tar the right with extremism and to instill fear.

Brazil swings right, elects right-wing nationalist Jair Bolsonaro as president

Far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro on Sunday night won Brazil's presidential election after a divisive and high-stakes race that drew widespread comparisons between him and President Trump. Bolsonaro won over Fernando Haddad, who replaced former President Luiz Inácio da Silva after he was jailed for corruption and money laundering.

The far-right populist, dubbed "Trump of the Tropics," had 55.5 percent of the vote with 96 percent voting by Sunday evening in the U.S. The Brazilian presidential race was marked by massive political infighting and violence, which came to a head when Bolsonaro himself was stabbed in the stomach during a campaign event in September.

Comment: That last point about Brazil's recent economic woes overlooks the fact that they really only kicked in when Roussef was ousted in a 'soft coup'. And then there's the broader context in which Brazil only ever got to the point of having 'economic woes' because of its tremendous economic progress under 'far-left' government...

Birds of a feather: Israel reportedly sells $250mln in cutting-edge spy systems to Saudi Arabia

Tel Aviv hasn't confirmed the reports, nor has the Gulf kingdom, which doesn't have official diplomatic ties with the Jewish state.

Saudi Arabia and Israel held covert meetings "in Washington and London," which resulted in an estimated $250 million deal, including the transfer of Israeli espionage technologies to the kingdom, Israeli media reported on Sunday, citing an exclusive report by the United Arab Emirate news website Al-Khaleej.

The report has it that a number of the said spy systems, the most advanced ones that Israel has ever sold to any Arab state, have already been successfully deployed to Saudi Arabia and put into practice, with Saudi technicians having previously received professional training in how to operate them. Neither side to the alleged deal has confirmed the information.

These are not the first reports surrounding alleged military cooperation between the two states. In September, Al-Khaleej reported that Saudi Arabia had purchased Israel's Iron Dome missile defense systems to fend off Houthi missile attacks.

Comment: All the better to spy on dissidents, journalists, atheists, Shia, and anyone else the Saudi royals don't like.

Papadopoulos: FBI withheld exculpatory information from secret court

Papadopoulos was set to tell lawmakers today how the FBI withheld exculpatory evidence from the FISC.

Former Trump campaign advisor George Papadopolous may hold the key to some of the most important questions lawmakers have been asking in recent months about the FBI's handling of the Russia probe into the Trump campaign: Did the FBI withhold exculpatory evidence from America's most secret court? And if so, what was it?

And on Thursday the former Trump campaign volunteer said he would testify before lawmakers that the bureau did exactly just that.

"Obviously George Papadopoulos was the reason why this whole Russia investigation was opened," said Rep. Mark Meadows on Thursday to reporters as he made his way into the closed-door hearing. "Hopefully we'll learn today what was said and what was not said. I think what will find is that this was not colluding with Russia."
