Greek vote to keep tensions high on Wall Street

Image

In addition to backyard barbecues and beer, this Father's Day could see many investors with their minds on Greece.

The Greek election - the Sunday event that has the attention of the world's financial markets - is expected to create volatility in the new trading week, in particular, for U.S. stocks, according to analysts and investors.

"I think the S&P futures will see their high or low depending on the outcome within one hour of the futures' opening on Sunday night at 6 p.m. Eastern time," said Elliot Spar, an options market strategist at Stifel Nicolaus & Co.

Analysts have viewed the Greek election as a potential turning point for Greece, with all eyes on whether voters will favor the leftist Syriza party opposed to the austerity measures that are part and parcel of Greece's international bailout package, or the conservative New Democracy, which is committed to upholding terms of that agreement.

Comment: If Greeks go to polls and it shakes the World Economy, do you think the United States will have to go in and blow them up for not voting in someone who stabilizes the World Economy? It's total nincompoopery. The World Economy is an illusion based on puppeteering that masks the complete depletion of resources. It's held together by the dull humdrum of our chemical lobotomized selves going back and forth, reacting with fear, being good consumers, holding up the illusion that all is well.

The closing few lines in this (3:48) video pretty much sum it up:

The article title says it all really: "to keep tensions high", which is exactly the anxiety those pulling the strings want you to feel.

Toulouse patsy Mohamed Merah worked for French Intelligence

Translated by SOTT

The DCRI has been charged with the investigation into the Toulouse and Montauban murders, whereas its legitimacy is being challenged.

On the 18th of October 2007, Mohamed Merah underwent a road police check near a Toulouse suburbs. Driving a BMW, the driver and his passenger caught the attention of law enforcement officers Laurent S. and Agnès B. and of security assistant Anthony C. Mohamed Merah's name appeared in bold in the file of people wanted by the police. On the note, 50600980 RG, it was mentioned: "DO NOT DRAW ATTENTION. SECURITY OF THE STATE." The three officers looked at each other, stunned, but went on with their control check. "In such cases, orders are clear: we act like nothing happened", explains a public official.

Comment: Mohamed Merah did not kill anybody - he was a patsy, and just like 911, the official version of the Toulouse attacks and of Mohamed Merah's death is a lie

Ottawa Airport Wired with Microphones as Border Services Prepares to Record Travellers' Conversations

Canada, Ottawa - Sections of the Ottawa airport are now wired with microphones that can eavesdrop on travellers' conversations.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is nearing completion of a $500,000 upgrade of old video cameras used to monitor its new "customs controlled areas," including the primary inspection area for arriving international passengers.

As part of the work, the agency is introducing audio-monitoring equipment as well.

"It is important to note that even though audio technology is installed, no audio is recorded at this time. It will become functional at a later date," CBSA spokesman Chris Kealey said in a written statement.

But whenever that occurs, the technology, "will record conversations," the agency said in a separate statement in response to Citizen questions.

Meanwhile, as many as 88 of the new high-definition video cameras are to be ready this summer.

Once the Ottawa equipment is activated, signs will be posted referring passersby to a "privacy notice" that will be posted on the CBSA website, and to a separate help line explaining how the recordings will be used, stored, disclosed and retained.

Islamabad -- At least 25 people were killed and over 45 others injured when a bomb ripped through a busy market in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of Khyber Agency on Saturday, local media reported.

The blast took place at about 11:00 a.m. local time near a bus stop at a market area in Landi Kotal, a town in Kyber Agency, which is only some five kilometers away from Torkham, a border checkpost along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, said local Urdu TV channel Express.

The bomb was hidden inside a car parked at the market and was detonated by a remote-controlled device, said police, adding that several shops and vehicles near the blast site were also destroyed.

Security forces and rescue team quickly arrived at the scene after the blast.

Bad Boys Exposed: Secret Service's 229-Page Log Reveals Agents' Porn, Wiretap, Embezzlement and Drunken Misdeeds

It went way beyond hookers.

Secret Service agents and officers have been accused of leaking sensitive information, publishing porn, sexual assaults, illegal wiretaps, embezzlement and drunkenness on duty, according to a 229-page log released yesterday.

After a prostitution scandal in April, when agents consorted with hookers while preparing for President Obama's arrival in Colombia, Service Director Mark Sullivan apologized. But he said it was an isolated case, not a "systemic issue."

However, the log, which the Service Service released yesterday after news organizations requested it under the Freedom of Information Act, shows a pattern of misdeeds dating back to 2003.

Sheldon Adelson Tops Romney Donor List That Now Includes 32 Billionaires

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has reportedly donated $10 million to a super PAC supporting Mitt Romney, as he hinted he would after a recent Las Vegas meeting with the GOP candidate.

Adelson's $10 million check is by far the biggest gift to date to Restore Our Future, a group that's attracted five new billionaire donors in as many weeks.

As my colleague Steve Bertoni pointed out, having spoken at length to Adelson for a Forbes cover story, $10 million may just be the start of the Las Vegas Sands chief's generosity. He may well give $100 million, as he'd planned to donate to Newt Gingrich's now-defunct campaign.

Julian Assange: After Sweden Will He End Up Like Manning?

Now that Julian Assange's appeal against extradition has failed, fears are that he will then be shipped on from Sweden to the U.S.A.

Digital Journal reported on June 14 that Assange's appeal to the U.K. Supreme Court to reopen his extradition case had been denied.

He is due to be extradited to Sweden in two weeks, where he is wanted for questioning over allegations of sexual assault and rape. It is feared that once in Sweden, he is likely to then be sent on to the U.S.A.

State department acknowledges Damascus already owned attack helicopters, cited by Hillary Clinton as escalating violence

The US state department has acknowledged that Russian helicopters it claimed had been sent recently to the Syrian regime were, in fact, refurbished ones already owned by Damascus.

Secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, claimed on Tuesday that "the latest information we have that there are attack helicopters on the way from Russia to Syria".

The state department admitted details had been omitted from Clinton's speech in which she accused Russia of escalating the violent situation in Syria. But spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said: "Whether they are new or they are refurbished, the concern remains that they will be used for the exact same purpose that the current helicopters in Syria are being used, and that is to kill civilians.

Obama bickers with "heckler" who accuses him of favouring immigrant workers to Americans

A reporter for a conservative news website heckled Obama as he announced his new immigration policy on Friday, clearly angering the president.

During Obama's speech, Neil Munro, an Irish-born reporter for the Daily Caller, yelled: 'Why do you favor foreigners over American workers?'

The president, who was speaking in the White House's Rose Garden, stumbled before placing up his hand in Mr Munro's direction and responding: 'Not while I'm speaking.'
