Will BRICS launch a new world in 2024?

BRICS doubled its membership at the start of 2024, and faces huge tasks ahead: integrating its newest members, developing future admission criteria, deepening the institution's groundings, and most importantly, launching the mechanisms for bypassing the US dollar in international finance.

MOSCOW - Across the Global South, countries are lining up to join the multipolar BRICS and the Hegemon-free future it promises. The onslaught of interest has become an unavoidable theme of discussion during this crucial year of the Russian presidency of what, for the moment, is BRICS-10.

Indonesia and Nigeria are among the top tiers of candidates likely to join. The same applies to Pakistan and Vietnam. Mexico is in a very complex bind: how to join without summoning the ire of the Hegemon.

And then there's the new candidacy on a roll: Yemen, which enjoys plenty of support from Russia, China, and Iran.

It's been up to Russia's top BRICS sherpa, the immensely capable Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, to clarify what's ahead. He tells TASS:
We must provide a platform for the countries interested in rapprochement with the BRICS, where they will be able to work practically without feeling left behind and joining this cooperation rhythm. And as to how the further expansion will be decided upon - this should be postponed at least until the leaders convene in Kazan to decide.
The key decision on BRICS+ expansion will only come out of the Kazan summit next October. Ryabkov stresses that the order of the day is first "to integrate those who have just joined." This means that "as a 'ten,' we work at least as efficiently, or, rather, more efficiently than we did within the initial 'five.'"

Only then will the BRICS-10 "develop the category of partner states," which, in fact, means creating a consensus-based list out of the dozens of nations that are literally itching to join the club.

Ryabkov always makes a point to note, in public and in private, that the twofold increase of BRICS members starting on 1 January 2024 is "an unprecedented event for any international structure."

It isn't an easy task, Ryabkov says:
Last year, it took an entire year to develop the admission, expansion criteria at the level of top officials. Many reasonable things were developed. And many of the things that were formulated back then got reflected in the list of countries that joined. But it would probably be improper to formalize the requirements. At the end of the day, an admission to the association is a subject of political decision.

The Four Stooges saga of Bundeswehr officers plotting to blow up the Kerch bridge in Crimea with Taurus missiles and getting away with it is a gift that keeps on giving.

President Putin, in his comprehensive interview to Dmitry Kiselev for Russia 1/RIA Novosti, did not fail to address it:

"They are fantasizing, encouraging themselves, first of all. Secondly, they are trying to intimidate us. As for the Federal Republic of Germany, there are constitutional problems there. They correctly say: if these Taurus hit that part of the Crimean Bridge, which, of course, even according to their concepts, is Russian territory, this is a violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany."

Yet it gets curioser and curioser.

When the transcript of the Taurus leak was published by RT, everyone was able to hear Brigadier General Frank Gräfe - head of operations of the German Air Force - speaking with Lieutenant Colonel Fenske from the German Space Command Air Operations on the plan to deploy Taurus systems in Ukraine.

A key point is that during the plotting, these two mention that plans were already discussed "four months ago" with "Schneider", the successor of "Wilsbach".

Well, these are German names, of course. Thus it did not dawn on anyone that (Kevin) Schneider and (Kenneth) Wilsbach could instead be... Americans.

Yet that did raise the eyebrows of German investigative journalist Dirk Pohlmann - who I had the pleasure to meet in Berlin years ago - and his fellow researcher Tobias Augenbraun.

They found out that the German-sounding names did identify Americans. Not only that: none less than the former and the current Commanders of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces.

The Four (actually Six) Stooges element gets an extra boost when it is established that Liver Sausage Chancellor Scholz and his Totalenkrieg Minister Pistorius learned about the Taurus plan no less than four months later.

So here apparently we have a clear cut case of top German military officers taking direct orders regarding an attack on Crimea - part of the Russian Federation - directly from American officers in the Pacific Air Forces.

That in itself opens the dossier to a large spectrum ranging from national treason (against Germany) to casus belli (from the point of view of Russia).

Of course none of that is being discussed on German mainstream media.

After all, the only thing that seems to disturb Brigadier General Gräfe is that German media may start seriously prying on the Bundeswehr's Multiple Stooges methods.

The only ones who actually did proper investigation were Pohlmann and Augenbaun.

It would be too much to expect from German media of the "Bild" type to analyze what would be the Russian response to the Multiple Stooge shenanigans against Crimea: a devastating retaliation against Berlin assets.

EU's chief gardener Borrell blasts Pope for daring to promote peace

Borrell
Borrell has said before that he feels more like a "defense" minister.
The pontiff suggested that Kiev should "find the courage" to end the conflict with Moscow through talks

Comments by Pope Francis about launching peace talks to end the Ukraine conflict are out of line and untimely, the EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, has said.

Borrell's remark comes after the head of the Catholic Church stated in an interview with Swiss broadcaster RSI last weekend that it would be a display of courage from Kiev if it raised a "white flag" and entered into peace negotiations with Russia.

"The Holy Pope entered a garden where no one invited him... But calling on Ukraine to surrender is more than a wish for peace," the diplomat said during an interview on Thursday with Spanish public radio RNE.

Borrell went on to state that he believes "that now is not the moment when it is necessary to offer Ukraine to surrender. On the contrary, this is the moment when we need to continue to help."

Comment: It is indeed a strange world, when a religious leader is chastised for calling for peace. Double strange when it is done by a person who holds the position as the top European diplomat.

Borrell is known for his comparison of the EU/West as being a garden and the outside world a jungle.

EU's Borrell under fire for 'Europe is a garden, rest of the world is jungle' remarks

Comment: It looks seriously as if quite a number of Western leaders are collectively suffering from Dunning-Kruger syndrome.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities.
It is also likely that those behind the scenes, who are pulling the strings of the Western leaders, are getting desperate as things are not going according to their plans.

For those in the West who calls for Ukraine to win and for Russia to be defeated, they would do well to remember the universal law of Hubris and Nemesis.
Nemesis, in Greek mythology, was the goddess of divine retribution and revenge. She was revered and feared as a deity who delivered justice, especially against those guilty of hubris, the sin of excessive pride or arrogance before the gods.
This idea of Hubris and Nemesis is also reflected in the Chinese concept of the Mandate of Heaven, with the idea that if rulers failed to look after their people, then Heaven would withdraw the divine mandate to rule. Pierre Lescaudron wrote about this in his book: Earth Changes and the Human-Cosmic Connection

More kids killed in Gaza than in four years of global conflicts - UN

Israel's war on Hamas is "a war on children," UNRWA head Philippe Lazzarini has declared.

More children have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since October than have died in every global conflict between 2019 and 2022 combined, according to figures released by the UN on Tuesday.

Over 12,300 children have been reported killed in the Palestinian enclave since that time, UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) chief Philippe Lazzarini said, citing data from the UN and Gaza's health ministry. Children account for almost half of the total death toll, which now exceeds 31,000.

Between the start of 2019 and the end of 2022, 12,193 children were killed in all armed conflicts globally, according to the figures.
"This war is a war on children. It is a war on their childhood and their future," Lazzarini said, calling for an immediate ceasefire "for the sake of children in Gaza."

White House walks back Biden's Rafah 'red line' for Israel statement

Netanyahu said he will 'finish the job' in Rafah, which is packed with 1.5 million Palestinians

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Tuesday refuted a report from POLITICO that said President Biden was considering conditioning military aid to Israel if it invades Rafah, the southern Gaza Strip city that's packed with 1.5 million Palestinians.

"We're not going to engage in hypotheticals about what comes down the line and the reports that purport to describe the president's thinking are uninformed speculation," Sullivan said.

A full-scale attack on Rafah would incur a huge number of civilian casualties as most Palestinians in the city, which has a pre-war population of 275,000, are sheltering in tents on the streets.

The news agency has obtained a copy of an investigation into the killing of one of its staff in Lebanon last October

An Israeli tank fired two shells at a group of international journalists clearly marked as such, in violation of international law, a UN investigation has reportedly found. The deadly incident happened in Lebanon in mid-October.

The conclusions, published by Reuters on Wednesday, are part of a seven-page report dated February 27, obtained by the news agency. They coincided with what it had found on its own while looking into the death of its employee Issam Abdallah and the injuries of six other journalists, including those working for Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Al Jazeera.

Scott Ritter: Putin's message is warmongers will 'get more than they asked for' in fight with Russia

Putin

The Russian president gave an extended interview to the director of Sputnik's parent media agency on Wednesday, focusing on the crisis in Ukraine, the threat of direct NATO intervention and the prospects for peace talks.

The key takeaway from President Putin's conversation with Rossiya Segodnya head Dmitry Kiselev is that those "looking for a contrite Russia, a weak Russia, a compliant Russia" won't find it in "the Russia that Vladimir Putin was presenting to the world in his interview," says former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and independent military and international affairs observer Scott Ritter.

Russia's world-leading nukes, Western 'vampire ball,' complaints from Trump: Key takeaways from Putin's big interview

interview

The Russian leader has held an in-depth sit-down with domestic media, days ahead of the country's presidential election...

Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken at length about Moscow's confrontation with the West, in an interview with journalist Dmitry Kiselyov, the head of Rossiya Segodnya, released just days before the country's presidential election.

Here are the key takeaways from Putin's in-depth discussion.

Western 'vampire ball' is ending

Non-Western nations are striving for sovereignty and are watching with interest as Russia confronts the US and its allies, Putin stated.

Western elites have been "tearing to pieces [the] poor peoples of Africa" and have exploited Latin America and Asia for 500 years, he claimed, adding that the West remains desperate to protect its unfair advantage.
"For centuries, they got used to stuffing their stomachs with human flesh and their pockets with money. But they must realize that this 'ball of vampires' is coming to an end."

War on Gaza: Why US humanitarian aid plan is a sham

Nixon

The maritime operation will not circumvent Israeli obstacles, even as Palestinians become increasingly desperate for food...

US President Joe Biden is getting hammered in the Democratic primaries. Though he has no opposition, nearly 400,000 primary voters across multiple states have abandoned him, choosing "uncommitted" instead.

The protest movement began in the critical swing state of Michigan, where more than 100,000 voters made a statement against Biden's support for Israel's war on Gaza. In subsequent primaries, hundreds of thousands more followed suit; in Minnesota alone, 20 percent of voters said they were uncommitted.

Many Democrats disapprove of this war and the president who is supporting it. Countrywide, 57 percent of Americans are unhappy with Biden's handling of the Israel-Palestine conflict, and 67 percent want a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Fifty-two percent say the US should halt arms shipments to Israel until current hostilities cease; among those who voted for Biden in 2020, that number increases to 62 percent. Even a majority of American Jews (50 percent) favour a permanent ceasefire, according to recent polling.

Biden is already paying the price for being out of sync with the Democratic base. He has to do something, and fast - otherwise, this could snowball into an avalanche. This is how movements begin and sure-fire candidacies fall apart.

Kremlin slams US' 'distortion' of Putin's words on use of nuclear weapons

Dmitry Peskov was commenting on the White House press secretary's remarks about Russia's nuclear doctrine...

Washington has "deliberately distorted" Russian President Vladimir Putin's words about the conditions under which Moscow would use nuclear weapons, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

He was referring to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's remarks about an interview Putin gave that aired on Wednesday.

While answering a reporter's question on whether US President Joe Biden had been briefed about Putin's comments, Jean-Pierre responded that the Russian leader was "restating Russia's nuclear doctrine" but went on to claim that "Russia's nuclear rhetoric has been reckless and irresponsible throughout this conflict."

Peskov described the White House's reaction to Putin's interview as an "absolutely deliberate distortion of the context," adding that "no threats to use nuclear weapons were made by Putin in this interview."

He indicated that the president was answering the journalist's questions rather than making official statements and explained that Putin "was just talking about the reasons that could make the use of nuclear weapons inevitable."
