Puppet Masters

It was welcome news that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was dramatically foiled in his bid to win a majority in Turkey's recent parliamentary elections. Those elections were in essence a referendum on Erdogan himself and his ambitions to create a super-presidency in which he could legally extend his increasingly authoritarian ruling style for years to come.
The Turkish public clearly recognized that Erdogan had overextended himself and had lost his touch in the increasing self-adulation and erratic ruling style over the past few years. The AKP, even with a plurality of votes, will not now be able to form a government without the participation of one or more opposition political parties.
Incirlik serves as a base of operations for the West's fight against Daesh (ISIS, ISIL, the Islamic State), which have now been effectively halted as "local military authorities" appear to have forced the lockdown.
But a more ominous fact about the base must be noted: NATO houses the U.S.' tactical nuclear weapons at Incirlik — as many as 80 nuclear bombs, though the total is considered classified information.

Have you heard this famous quote 'Marketing is everything ... and everything is marketing'? I know it was originally meant for product sales, because admit it, you can have the best product engineering, financial backing and operational mastery ... but in the end the success of your product is determined by how your customers perceive your product - your brand. This principle of marketing applies equally as well to our domestic politics and politicians, and it is equally valid for world politics and leaders. The principle governs one of the main operations of the U.S. Empire: Regime Building & Puppet Installation. Not only that, it is also used in reverse as well. Think of it as reverse engineering. It is very similar: The Empire uses the same principle of marketing to bring down regimes and uninstall puppets. The reversal of Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan's world and domestic image provides a perfect example of the Empire's reverse marketing.
In the United States, for over a decade, Turkey's AKP Party and its leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan had been branded, marketed, and promoted as truly democratic and fair, and the best model of a democratic government for the Islamic world. Please allow me to provide examples of this branding and marketing performed by the US media for the masters and planners of the Empire:
Comment: The first signs of the West turning on Erdogan came more than two years ago. Presumably, he was allowed to stay in power because of Turkey's essential war in the war on Syria. But cooperation with Russia seems to have been the red line for the U.S. Unfortunately for them, the coup has failed: the plotters did not manage to fully control the media, did not arrest key officials, and counted on popular support, which turned to be overwhelmingly in Erdogan's favor and not the military. Now, Erdogan will be able to purge the military and government of the U.S./NATO/CIA/Gulen plants (as well as other opposition his government perceives as dangerous, perhaps), and with relations with U.S. 'hurt' (to quote Kerry), Russia is waiting with even wider-open arms.

But as NATO contemplates enhancing its forces in the Black Sea, it must contend with the constraints set by the 1936 Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits. The pact imposes limits on nations that do not border the Black Sea, restricting the tonnage of warships as well as aggregate tonnage, number of vessels and duration of stay for any single nation. However, NATO could circumvent those restrictions by building its fleet with ships from several nations and using force rotations. NATO could also lean on member states Romania and Turkey, which are largely exempted from the convention's restrictions, to bulk up a Black Sea fleet.
In terms of sheer numbers of ships, Russia does not have the upper hand in the Black Sea. However, Russia has many other military advantages that help make up for its smaller fleet size, including naval aviation and overall aviation assets that it could task for Black Sea missions. It also possesses long-range anti-ship cruise missile batteries that can reach most of the Black Sea. Russia has used its position on the Crimean Peninsula to build up these advantages, and it is in the process of substantially modernizing its Black Sea forces.

"Despite all the ambiguity in Erdogan's behavior, he still to a certain extent began to pursue policies more independent from the West in evaluating processes ongoing in the region. It is possible that pro-Western generals don't like this," Kadyrov believes.
The Chechen leader pointed to how "Turkish generals have become accustomed to interfering in politics and dictating domestic and foreign policy course to the country's leadership."
"Every such attempt has come from military men oriented towards the West," he added.
We still don't know if this man is a jihadi lone wolf or not - even as his modus operandi comes straight from Daesh's playbook. And even if he's not an insta-jihadi, what's certain is that his appalling "example" will be emulated.
The Washington-Riyadh axis used terror in Afghanistan even BEFORE the 1980s jihad. Wahhabism destroyed both Afghanistan and Pakistan, installing a Kalashnikov culture. Shock and Awe in 2003 led to Washington promoting Divide and Rule as in pitting Sunnis against Shi'ites - and that brought terror to Iraq. Washington and Brussels supported jihadis in both Libya and Syria, and that was supported even by the liberal 'human rights' left. Ah, but the (bogus) enemy is Putin and "Russian aggression". Meanwhile the real enemy - Salafi-jihadis - even gets crucial "support" (and weapons). Add to it the blowback for NATO's wars - a taboo discussion in the West.

President Hollande will eventually achieve his objective - being the first country in Europe with permanent Martial Law. He has already declared to extend the current State of Emergency for another three months, when it expires on 26 July. Such a temporary extension is in his power. He will have plenty of time to force it through Parliament - thereby prompting other EU countries to do likewise.
Why France? - Naturally, Hollande follows Washington's orders. He is the most spineless puppet in Europe, making France the foremost EU vassal of America. And that in a post-Brexit ambiance, where according to several polls 70% - 80% of the French people are anti-EU and would vote for a Frexit, if they were given the chance to vote. This is a considerable increase since the Brexit referendum.
Washington needs a militarized Europe to be controlled by force, to impose its neo-fascist corporate and finance rules, to push the TTIP down the throat of the Europeans, to make Europe the new and effective low-cost high-tech colony of the empire - and an unfailing buffer zone to Russia; Cold War all over again. This time not so cold any more. WWIII is an imminent possibility, thanks to the EU vassals in Brussels giving NATO free reign to advance ruthlessly towards Moscow.
Comment: See the Sott Focus: Deconstructing the official narrative around the attacks in Nice, France and Joe Quinn's interview on Press TV:
US Secretary of State John Kerry told Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavosoglu on Saturday that public claims suggesting that American officials masterminded the failed coup attempt in Turkey were categorically false and were harmful to relations between the two longtime NATO allies.
Kerry urged Turkey to show restraint in the wake of the coup attempt and to follow the rule of law closely in its investigation into the plot, State Department spokesman John Kirby explained in a statement.
"He made clear that the United States would be willing to provide assistance to Turkish authorities conducting this investigation, but that public insinuations or claims about any role by the United States in the failed coup attempt are utterly false and harmful to our bilateral relations," said Kirby.
As for now, both parties are cooperating in Syria, but only in order to avoid dangerous incidents. However, if their cooperation plan is implemented in practice, it will become a kind of "reset" for both parties.
"The fact that President Barack Obama gradually gives up his original goal — the overthrow of Assad, and gives priority to the fight against Islamic State has become noticeable long ago. The planned new partnership with Moscow would consolidate this course," the article said.
