'Deep State' much? Pelosi and Raskin's 25th Amendment body would let unelected bureaucrats override the will of American people

Mask's off: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announces plan to create a 25th Amendment commission, October 9, 2020.
In addition to paving the way for a Harris administration, the proposed commission to govern the usurpation of presidential powers would create a 'Deep State'-like cabal, including former officials, to gate-keep the White House.

The pompously named Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office, unveiled on Friday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) is technically based on the provision in the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution, allowing for "such other body as Congress may by law provide" to govern the process of succession should a president become "incapacitated."

With just weeks left till the November 3 election, and zero chance of the Republican-majority Senate or President Donald Trump endorsing the proposal, it's unclear at first why the Democrats would unveil it now.

Spanish government enforces state of emergency on Madrid after court rejects lockdown

A customer sits inside a bar in Madrid on Friday.
The Spanish government has declared a state of emergency to keep Madrid in partial lockdown as countries across Europe struggle to deal with the continuing surge in new coronavirus cases.

The move came as Italy logged more than 5,000 new daily coronavirus cases for the first time in six months, and Germany recorded more than 4,000 new infections for the second day in a row. Following a meeting with mayors, the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, announced that some areas would be given 10 days to improve the situation or face tougher action.

Spain's Socialist-led cabinet on Friday finally lost patience with the Madrid regional government's refusal to obey its calls for greater action in and around the capital, where infection rates are more than twice the national average.

Former President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev greets his supporters during a rally in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, October 9, 2020.
Former Kyrgyzstani President Almazbek Atambayev has reportedly survived an assassination attempt, which injured one person. It came as his successor, Sooronbay Jeenbekov, ordered a state of emergency in Bishkek over mass protests.

Atambayev's car came under fire, his aide, Kunduz Zholdubaeva, said in a Facebook post, on Friday, adding that the politician escaped unharmed. She also posted a video, in which Atambayev accuses some security officials and members of rival "clans" of trying to assassinate him while saying he got the information about the plot in advance.

A video published on Twitter by a local journalist also allegedly shows the moment when an unknown assailant draws a pistol and fires at ex-president's car as it drives through a busy crossing crowded with people in the nation's capital of Bishkek.

Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J.• Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Oct. 8, 2020.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday threatened that Democrats are looking at using a provision of the 25th Amendment to effectively remove President Trump from office.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) teased that she and her fellow Democrats are considering invoking the constitutional provision on presidential succession — a seemingly fantastical yearning among Trump opponents.

"Tomorrow. Come here tomorrow. We're going to be talking about the 25th Amendment, but not to take attention away from the subject we have now," Pelosi told reporters at a press conference.

Comment: Pelosi is corroded, vindictive, chronically destructive, and, as they say, 'coup'-'coup'.

FBI stonewalls over Hunter Biden; refuses to provide Congress answers on Burisma, China

The FBI is stonewalling a congressional inquiry into Hunter Biden's overseas business activity described in a Senate report last month which chronicles the Biden family's international conflicts of interest, as well as potentially criminal business activity, according to The Federalist.

The Senate report detailed Hunter's financial dealings with Ukrainian, Chinese and Russian businesses created potential "criminal financial, counterintelligence and extortion concerns," and alarmed US officials who perceived an ethical conflict of interest and flagged potential crimes ranging from sex trafficking to bribery.

Last week, in response to the report, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan (R) - the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, demanded answers from the FBI over what actions it's taken, if any, regarding 2015 reports from the DOJ, that the owner of Ukrainian energy giant Burisma paid a $7 million bribe to government officials to shut down an investigation while Hunter sat on its board.

Biden says he'll reveal position on court packing 'when the election is over'

Former VP Joe Biden
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Thursday refused to say whether he supports adding additional seats to the Supreme Court, saying he won't reveal his position until after the November election.

"You'll know my opinion on court packing when the election is over," Biden said during a campaign stop in Phoenix.

"It's a great question, and I don't blame you for asking. But you know, the moment I answer that question, the headline in every one of your papers will be on the answer to that question," he said.

Biden suggested that major media coverage of his stance on the Supreme Court would needlessly distract from "what's going on" in America.

Comment: Biden's remark is a convenient dodge for a 'supremely' important question, the decision of which would alter the construction, definition and effect of the Supreme Court for generations to come. Likely he doesn't know the answer because no one has told him.

Washington blacklists Iran's entire financial sector

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin
Washington has blacklisted virtually all of Iran's financial sector, striking an economy already hit hard by U.S. sanctions.

The move on October 8 blacklists 18 Iranian banks that had, so far, escaped most of the U.S. sanctions imposed by President Donald Trump's administration since the United States pulled out of a 2015 nuclear pact between Tehran and world powers.

Critically, the move subjects foreign, non-Iranian financial institutions to penalties for doing business with the blacklisted Iranian entities -- effectively cutting off Iran from the international financial system.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in statement:
"Today's action to identify the financial sector and sanction eighteen major Iranian banks reflects our commitment to stop illicit access to U.S. dollars. Our sanctions programs will continue until Iran stops its support of terrorist activities and ends its nuclear programs. Today's actions will continue to allow for humanitarian transactions to support the Iranian people."

Comment: Does tightening the financial screws solve anything? Has it ever? Perhaps that is the point.

UK Appeals Court removes Guaido's access to Venezuelan gold

President Nicolas Maduro's administration wins appeal related to monetary gold reserves deposited in the Bank of England.

The United Kingdom Court of Appeals Monday annulled the decision that granted opposition lawmaker Juan Guaido control of 31 tons of gold that Venezuela has deposited in England.

In September, Venezuela filed an appeal against the decision of the British High Court that prevented President Nicolas Maduro's administration from accessing monetary reserves valued at more than US$1 billion, which are deposited in the Bank of England in London.

Previously, in July, High Court Judge Nigel Teare granted self-proclaimed president Guaido control of those monetary reserves, arguing that the United Kingdom recognized him as the "president in charge" of Venezuela.

Flynn's lawyer Powell files damning motion to disqualify Judge Emmet Sullivan, includes declassified docs exposing set-up

Former national security advisor Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn's defense team filed an explosive motion Wednesday to disqualify U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan over his overt partiality against Flynn and actions to operate as a prosecutor in the case, rather than a judge.

Months of stunning disclosures in Flynn's case have also revealed extensive malfeasance by FBI investigators in his case and that of the investigation into President Donald Trump's campaign. For example, the recent revelation that former British spy Christopher Steele's primary sub source for the debunked dossier was a Russian spy that was being monitored by the FBI for years and that they kept this information from the FISA courts is a reflection on the culture of corruption that existed inside the bureau during the Obama administration.

Powell stated in the motion filed Wednesday, that her request for the disqualification of Sullivan from further participation in this case was based partly on "his failure to follow the mandamus of the D.C. Circuit panel and his decision with his own retained counsel to take the unprecedented and improper step of filing his petition for rehearing en banc, Judge Sullivan 'cast an intolerable cloud of partiality over his subsequent judicial conduct' and "risk[ed] [] undermining the public's confidence in the judicial process."

In this Monday, Oct. 5, 2020 file photo, President Donald Trump holds his mask after removing it from his face as he stands on the Blue Room Balcony upon returning to the White House in Washington from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. He announced he tested positive for the coronavirus on Oct. 2.
President Trump said Thursday Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has done "a terrible job" responding to the coronavirus threat just hours after she accused him of being "complicit" in stoking extremist groups, like the militia accused of plotting to kidnap and kill her.

Mr. Trump in a series of tweets that Ms. Whitmer, a Democrat, should be grateful federal authorities busted up the alleged plot.

"My Justice Department and federal law enforcement announced today that they foiled a dangerous plot against the Governor of Michigan," he tweeted "Rather than say thank you, she calls me a White Supremacist — while Biden and Democrats refuse to condemn Antifa, anarchists, looters and mobs that burn down Democrat run cities."
