Iraqi lawmakers demand US withdrawal from their country - a violation of their sovereignty

US soldiers hold Iraqi 72nd Brigade training session at Basmaya Base.
The US promised to "gradually reduce" its presence in Iraq in February after Baghdad declared victory over Daesh (ISIS) last December, but has declined to withdraw its contingent from the country. In August, the US-led coalition said the estimated 5,200 US troops in Iraq would stay in the country "as long as needed."

Iraqi lawmakers have urged Washington to end what they consider its illegal military presence in their country. Speaking to Iran's Press TV on Friday, Council of Representatives MP Amer al-Shebli argued that continued US presence was "a violation of the Iraqi sovereignty."

Fellow lawmaker Adnan al-Assadi added:
"After ending terrorism, the previous parliament should have taken a serious action to force all foreign forces to leave Iraq. The presence of US forces in Iraq is illegal. As a member of the parliament's Security Committee, we voice our concern over the presence of the US military and the constant increase in the number of the soldiers. They have thousands of soldiers here. Yet the government says they are advisors."
"Sovereignty is the most valuable asset in any nation," legislator Kadhim al-Sayadi said. "The sacrifices of the Iraqi people in their fight against Daesh show how important their country's sovereignty is for them. Today, no country will allow foreign military bases on its land."

Other lawmakers said that the US could maintain a military presence in Iraq, but only if it reached agreement with Iraq's parliament and government first. "The presence of any foreign forces inside Iraq can only be done through agreements with the Iraqi government, and these agreement cannot be passed without the approval of the parliament," Kurdish Democratic Party lawmaker Diar Barawri said.

Comment: The US will never give up a strategic location...evidenced by the hundreds of bases it has accumulated around the globe.

Trade turnover between Russia and the UK may reach $14 billion by the end of 2018, according to Boris Abramov, a Russian trade representative in the UK. Businesses are clearly shrugging off the singularly fraught relationship.

"The volume of mutual trade has nearly reached $10 billion from January through September of the current year, marking a 29 percent growth compared to the same period a year ago," Abramov said at the 4th Russian-British Business Forum, kicking off in London.

The Russian official added that non-resource exports had increased by eight percent during the indicated period.

"By the end of the year, we expect mutual trade to reach $14 billion," Abramov said.

Mexican officials say Central American migrants who rushed US border will face deportation

Migrants rush US border San Ysidro 11.25.18

As crowds amassed at San Ysidro, around 500 migrants overwhelmed federal and local Mexican police blockades and rushed toward the border.
Mexican officials say members of a Central American migrant caravan who rushed the US border Sunday will now face deportation from the country.

The Interior Ministry of Mexico said any would-be asylum seekers in the group had hurt their cause by "violently" and "illegally" trying to cross the border and that they now face deportation from the country.

Groups of Central American migrants have been converging on the Mexican border city for days in their quest to gain entry to the United States. Their presence has drawn Mexican troops, protesters and fiery rhetoric from President Donald Trump and Mexican officials.

As crowds amassed at San Ysidro, around 500 migrants overwhelmed federal and local Mexican police blockades and rushed toward the border, said freelance reporter Alfredo Alvarez, who was in the crowd. The crowds were made up of men, women and a lot of children, Alvarez said.

UK MP who blocked upskirting ban now objects to bill protect girls from genital mutilation

A Tory MP has risked controversy once more after blocking a parliamentary bill to help protect children from female genital mutilation (FGM), months after sparking outrage after impeding a bill to criminalize upskirting.

Sir Christopher Chope shouted "object" to the bill which would've added a one-line amendment to the Children's Act 1989. The line, proposed by Labour peer Lord Michael Berkeley, read: "considerably extend protection to young girls at risk of genital mutilation."

It is unclear as to why Chope blocked the bill.

The MP for Christchurch, Dorset, sparked outrage from activists and fellow MPs alike. Calls for him to be deselected as an MP were abundant with many referencing his previous controversies.

Soros' foundation to cease operations in Turkey following accusations of fomenting civil unrest

politicos argentinos,open society,soros
George Soros's Open Society Foundation said on Monday it would cease operations in Turkey, days after President Tayyip Erdogan accused the billionaire philanthropist of trying to divide and destroy nations.

The foundation said it had been the target of "baseless claims" in the Turkish media, which made it impossible for it to continue its work.

It also faced an investigation by the Interior Ministry which sought to demonstrate a link, which it denied, between the foundation and protests at Istanbul's Gezi Park in 2013.

One of its founders in Turkey, Hakan Altinay, was among 13 people detained 10 days ago. They were accused of supporting jailed rights activist Osman Kavala in a bid to overthrow the government through mass protests.

Comment: Accusations of attempting 'to divide and destroy nations' aren't exactly baseless; Soros is well-known for his global meddling and a growing number of countries are working to rid themselves of his insidious influence:

Russian deputy FM: US used accusation of INF treaty violation to fish for classified data on Russian missiles

Accusations by Washington that Moscow had violated the INF Treaty were actually an attempt by the US to obtain classified data on missile projects that were developed by Russia, the country's deputy foreign minister has said.

In view of those accusations, Moscow "received several question lists" from the US, according to Sergey Ryabkov.

"The subject of many questions by the Americans far exceeded Russia's obligations as part of the treaty, and were rightly perceived by us as an attempt to 'scan' our newest missile developments," he told a briefing in Moscow.

The Americans even pressed Russia to reveal the dates on which tests of a certain class of missile were carried out, "so that the US side could themselves pinpoint the questionable launches," he added. "In other words, for a long time we were asked to 'solve the puzzle' from various scattered elements and then to name the missile, which the US believed didn't conform with the INF Treaty."

The deputy foreign minister said that such an approach was about making Russia "confess to the violation, which it did not commit." Moscow had no other choice but to "reject such an intrusive attempt."

President Trump on Monday urged Mexico to deport Central American migrants who are attempting to reach the U.S., and threatened to permanently shut down the southern border.

"Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries," Trump wrote on Twitter. "Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A. We will close the Border permanently if need be. Congress, fund the WALL!"

Chad and Israel seek to restore diplomatic relations

Idriss Deby
During a historic visit to Israel, President of the Republic of Chad Idriss Deby has said he wants to open a new chapter in bilateral ties between the two nations, which have not had diplomatic relations more than 40 years.

"We need to melt the ice if it is possible to say so. The future is important, including the future of our relations, the future of our peoples, the future of Israel and Africa. We are here and we want to resume diplomatic relations. Your country is an important partner for us," Deby said at a meeting with Netanyahu.

Netanyahu, for his part, called Chad a very important partner for Israel.

"As a leader of an African country, an important African country, a majority of whose population is Muslim, you are coming to Israel to renew our friendship and our relationship. I think it is a testament of what is going to happen with other such countries in Africa as well, and I believe that you are paving the way for many others," the Israeli PM noted.

Comment: While US and Arab ties to Israel are relatively clear - they all support terrorist networks in the region - one wonders what this recent move by Chad is all about?

US and Russian forces clashed in Syria a 'dozen times' - US envoy

US and Russian military forces have clashed a dozen times in Syria, including instances of gun battles, said an American envoy involved in the illegal US intrusion into the Arab country, without elaborating on specifics.

US Special Representative for Syria Engagement, Ambassador James Jeffrey, made the remarks when asked during an interview with Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti to clarify casualty figures and details of a February gun battle in which American forces reportedly killed as many as 200 pro-Syria forces who had launched a failed attack on a base held by US troops and their local Kurdish allies near the eastern town of Deir al-Zour.

"US forces are legitimately in Syria, supporting local forces in the fight against Daesh and as appropriate -- and this has occurred about a dozen times in one or another place in Syria -- they exercise the right of self-defense when they feel threatened," Jeffrey further claimed in the interview as cited in a Saturday report by the US-based military news outlet Stars and Stripes, insisting that none of the nearly 40 American troops at the outpost had been killed or injured.
