Eric Holder announces revival of law enforcement group for domestic extremism

The United States is reviving a law enforcement group to investigate those it designates as domestic terrorists, the Department of Justice announced Tuesday.

Following hate-motivated shootings such as the one at a Jewish Community Center in Kansas City, Missouri in April, federal prosecutors have pressed the need to coordinate intelligence about such criminals on a national level, Justice Department officials told Reuters.

In a statement, Attorney General Eric Holder said the United States remains concerned about threats from Islamic extremist groups, but the group will focus on other motives for attacks within U.S. borders.

Events like the April 2013 bombing of the Boston Marathon, in which the attackers appeared to be influenced by extremist groups abroad, would not fall under the committee's jurisdiction.

What a sloozer! Kerry wants Snowden to come back

Dumbass

Secretary of State John Kerry chided National Security Agency leak source Edward Snowden on Wednesday, telling him he "should man up and come back to the United States."

Kerry's comments came as Snowden's extensive interview with NBC's Brian Williams is set to air Wednesday night. Kerry was asked about an excerpt from the interview in which Snowden said he was trained by the U.S. government as a "spy," something that countered the Obama administration's previous assertions he was a low-level analyst.

Kerry dismissed Snowden's comments as twisting language, and he criticized Snowden for seeking asylum in "authoritarian" Russia.

"If he has a complaint about what's wrong with American surveillance, come back here and stand in our system of justice and make his case," Kerry said.

Whistleblower at Texas Veteran's hospital sez system is run like a 'crime syndicate'

Image

For years, employees at a Texas VA complained that their bosses were cooking the books. For years, the VA insisted there was no widespread wrongdoing

Editor's Note: This story has been updated with new information.

Last week, President Obama pledged to address allegations of corruption and dangerous inefficiencies in the veterans' health-care system. But before the president could deliver on his pledge, the scandal has spread even further. New whistleblower testimony and internal documents implicate an award-winning VA hospital in Texas in widespread wrongdoing - and what appears to be systemic fraud.

Emails and VA memos obtained exclusively by The Daily Beast provide what is among the most comprehensive accounts yet of how high-level VA hospital employees conspired to game the system. It shows not only how they manipulated hospital wait lists but why - to cover up the weeks and months veterans spent waiting for needed medical care. If those lag times had been revealed, it would have threatened the executives' bonus pay.

Comment: It's likely that the current health care system will collapse in the near future and become even more unaffordable to the masses. The best solution is the avoid the disastrous health care system altogether and educate yourself on what is truly healthy.

The Geopolitics of the Eurasian Economic Union

Image
The "Soft Power" Strategy

The deal signed last week by Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan to create a Eurasian Economic Union is yet another countermeasure against US and European attempts to isolate Russia. By moving towards closer economic cooperation, Russia hopes to build, piecemeal if necessary, a common Eurasian economic space that will ultimately rival the US and Europe in terms of economic influence.

However, the ultimate goal of this sort of cooperation goes far beyond just economic power. Rather, Russia is the key facilitator of a series of multilateral arrangements created in the last fifteen years that Putin (and much of the world) hopes will ultimately move the world towards a multipolar global order. While this is undoubtedly on the agenda for Russia and its ally Belarus, Kazakhstan is a complicated partner as it is deeply involved with the West in terms of business, investment, education, and a number of other critical areas.

The Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) presents a host of possibilities for economic cooperation and development. From energy reserves to the all important pipeline infrastructure, the new arrangement will, over time, have a greater and greater impact on energy exports and consumption both in Europe and Asia as China looks to further secure its energy future. Moreover, the EEU will impact vital trade routes and commercial and private transportation options, in addition to promoting political, military, and security cooperation among the members, and in the region generally. Essentially then, the EEU should be understood as yet another blow to US hegemony in Asia and the former Soviet space.

First denied, now confirmed: Kiev air force fires over 150 missiles at civilian administration building in Lugansk

Kiev has admitted showering the eastern Ukrainian city of Lugansk with dozens of missiles from the air, saying that its Air Force helicopters and jets "fired more than 150 missiles" in Monday's military action.

According to a statement by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the intense bombing was meant to "support the Ukrainian Border Guards," which the Lugansk militia have been trying to take under control.

"All in all, for fulfilling the combat support of the Ukrainian border guards the army aviators fired more than 150 missiles, carried out three jet sorties and five helicopter sorties," the statement says.

The air support was backed by fighter jets launching decoy flares to prevent the attacking aircraft from being targeted from the ground.

According to the ministry, two self-defense checkpoints were destroyed in the attack.

Not all the Monday fighting was on the outskirts of Lugansk, apparently, as one Ukrainian missile hit the occupied Lugansk administration building, killing at least eight civilians inside and nearby. Kiev has already laid the blame on the self-defense forces for the "blast," which has undoubtedly been confirmed as an airstrike by the accounts of witnesses and the CCTV footage from the scene.

I have watched the unfolding coup d'etat in Ukraine from it's very beginning in late November 2013 in Kiev. I have watched a steady stream of western dignitaries and politicians parade through Maidan Square in Kiev, each and every one of them publicly and vocally expressing their open support of the coup d'etat. I find it appalling that the sitting ambassador of the United States of America to the Sovereign Country of Ukraine, Geoffrey R. Pyatt, actively and publicly supported a violent coup d'etat against the sitting and legally elected government of Ukraine and to this day actively and publicly expresses open support for the illegal coup d'etat installed government in Kiev.

On 01 December 2013 my wife and I watched the Right Sector and Svoboda Party operatives attempt to take the Presidential Administration Building on Bankhova Street in Kiev under the active and visible command of Vitaly Klitchko and Petro Poroshenko, two sitting deputats of the Ukraine Rada (parliament). After that 3 hour riot ended with Bankhova Street being finally cleared by Berkut riot police who were under orders to not go beyond the end of Bankhova Street, I told my wife President Yanukovich would lose against the coup d'etat. She told me I was crazy. 2 1/2 months later we were shoveling sand in to bags in the middle of the night at the new block post just above Belbek Aerodrome as our Self Defense Forces in Sevastopol and Krimea built and manned block posts at the Krim/Ukraine border and the 5 roads in to Sevastopol.

The victors of the Maidan coup d'etat, Oleg Tyagnibok (a sitting deputat of Ukraine Rada) and Dmitro Yarush, leaders of Svoboda Party and Right Sector Party respectively, had stated, during a live interview on Channel 5 TV in Kiev on 27 February 2014, that they were going to lead their combined 5500 fighters from Miadan down to Krim and Sevastopol and 'kill every Russian there' combined with 'we will put every Russian in Krim to the knife'. We took them seriously and we knew they were heavily armed with AK 47's and RPGs, clearly seen in videos of the end and aftermath of the coup in Maidan. Those first two days and nights on the barricades we had only clubs for most of us.

Elites aggressively taking control of the world's water supply

Image
A disturbing trend in the water sector is accelerating worldwide. The new "water barons" - the Wall Street banks and elitist multibillionaires - are buying up water all over the world at unprecedented pace.

Familiar mega-banks and investing powerhouses such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, UBS, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Macquarie Bank, Barclays Bank, the Blackstone Group, Allianz, and HSBC Bank, among others, are consolidating their control over water. Wealthy tycoons such as T. Boone Pickens, former President George H.W. Bush and his family, Hong Kong's Li Ka-shing, Philippines' Manuel V. Pangilinan and other Filipino billionaires, and others are also buying thousands of acres of land with aquifers, lakes, water rights, water utilities, and shares in water engineering and technology companies all over the world.

The second disturbing trend is that while the new water barons are buying up water all over the world, governments are moving fast to limit citizens' ability to become water self-sufficient (as evidenced by the well-publicized Gary Harrington's case in Oregon, in which the state criminalized the collection of rainwater in three ponds located on his private land, by convicting him on nine counts and sentencing him for 30 days in jail). Let's put this criminalization in perspective:

Billionaire T. Boone Pickens owned more water rights than any other individuals in America, with rights over enough of the Ogallala Aquifer to drain approximately 200,000 acre-feet (or 65 billion gallons of water) a year. But ordinary citizen Gary Harrington cannot collect rainwater runoff on 170 acres of his private land.

Best of the Web: U.S exceptionalism and the return of the living (neo-con) dead

U.S exceptionalism

Amid much hysteria, the notion has been widely peddled in the United States that President Obama's "new" foreign policy doctrine, announced last week at West Point, rejects neo-cons and neo-liberals and is, essentially, post-imperialist and a demonstration of realpolitik.

Not so fast. Although stepping back from the excesses of the Cheney regime - as in bombing whole nations into "democracy" - the "desire to lead" still crystallizes 'might is right'.

Moreover, 'exceptionalism' remains the norm. Now not so blatant, but still implemented via a nasty set of tools, from financial warfare to cyber-war, from National Endowment for Democracy-style promotion of 'democracy' to Joint Special Operations Command-driven counter-terrorism, drone war and all shades of shadow wars.

In the early 2000s, the model was the physical destruction and occupation of Iraq. In the 2010s the model is the slow-mo destruction, by proxy, of Syria.

Beyond denial! Deadly Ukraine fighter jet bombing caught on tape

Earlier today we reported that even as the western media blackout of events in Ukraine gets more black, the ongoing civil war is getting ever more uncivil, following a Ukraine fighter jet attack on the east Ukraine town of Lugansk, in which it struck not only the local administration building, but a neighboring area, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and injuries. Kiev was quick to deny that it was using its airforce on its own people, claiming instead that the explosion quite clearly caught on tape was merely locals trying to unsuccessfully shoot at the fighter jet.

So for your viewing displeasure, because the reality of yet another fratricidal war is hardly enjoyable, and so readers can make up their own minds, here is the moment of the fighter jet bombing caught on tape, as well as the tragic consequences.

The first clip shows CCTV footage as the rocket explosion is spread out across a park neighboring the administration building.

Comment: How does the Western prostitute media cover it? The Saker comments thus:
The BBC is wonderful. Here are the two Russia-linked headlines today: However, they did mention the massacre in Lugansk (in the middle of the 2nd article). Like that:
In Luhansk, there was an explosion in the main regional building seized by the separatists several weeks ago. It was not immediately known what caused the blast. Unconfirmed reports say there were casualties. Pro-Russian groups accused Ukraine's military of carrying out an air strike. Kiev denied the claim, suggesting that separatists in the building could have mishandled a portable anti-aircraft missile system.
Ain't it wonderful? And notice the politically correct Ukie spelling of Lugansk as "Luhansk".

They are just *priceless* in their absolute indifference to even most obvious and over-proven facts. Alain Soral is absolutely correct, nowadays a journalist (in the West) is either a prostitute, or unemployed.

Media presstitutes AFP distorts Ayatollah Khamenei's remarks on Takfiris

AFP news agency (Agence France-Presse) has distorted remarks by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei about support for "Takfiri groups" in Syria.

In a meeting with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah in Tehran on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei warned that the threats posed by "Takfiri groups" will eventually backfire on their regional supporters.
"Unfortunately, some regional countries are not aware of the danger that these Takfiri groups will pose to them in the future and continue supporting these groups," the Leader stated.
However, AFP distorted the Leader's remarks, using the phrase "extremist Sunni Muslim groups" instead of Takfiri groups.

In its initial version of the remarks, AFP said, "Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Monday warned regional countries of the 'high price' they would eventually pay for supporting extremist Sunni Muslim groups fighting Tehran's key ally Syria."

The news agency subsequently made a change to the piece, but once again inaccurately used the term "rebels" to refer to Takfiri groups.

In its apparently amended story, AFP wrote, "Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Monday warned regional countries of the 'high price' they would eventually pay for supporting rebels fighting against Tehran's key ally Syria."

It also claimed that Takfiri is "a synonymous term" Iranian officials use for Sunni extremists.

However, Takfiri groups have declared that they have a right to declare any Muslim and non-Muslim as apostates.
