The success of the Kurds as a fighting force against Daesh worries some regional powers, who remain too divided to reach a political solution to the conflict in Iraq and Syria, warned political analyst Wladimir van Wilgenburg.

Some regional players in the Middle East conflict are worried about the influence of the Kurdish militia which has emerged as one of the most successful fighting forces in Iraq and Syria, Kurdish affairs expert Wladimir van Wilgenburg told Sputnik.

US Defense Department rejects evidence of Ankara's involvement in Daesh oil trade

The United States denied evidence of Ankara's involvement in the Islamic State (IS, ISIL or Daesh) oil smuggling operations, a US Defense Department official told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"We reject the premise that the Turkish government is in league with Daesh/ISIL to smuggle oil. We have seen no evidence to support such an accusation," the official said. "Moreover, Turkey is taking steps to improve the security of its border with Syria, working with international partners. One goal of this effort is to cut off Daesh smuggling."

Comment: It's difficult to see something you refuse to look at. "Seeing no evidence" does not mean that no such evidence exists: Russian Defense Ministry presents evidence of Turkey's role in ISIS' oil trade

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov stated earlier on Wednesday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his family are involved in the illegal deliveries of oil from the IS, whose activities are prohibited in Russia.

Comment: The US probably knows the evidence is clear but desperately wants to keep Turkey in the great game.

UK Parliament Vote on Bombing Syria Makes a Mockery of Both History and British Politics

US special forces (50 guys) deployed to boost fight against ISIS in Iraq and unilateral ops into Syria

The US is set to deploy an expeditionary targeting force to help Iraq put additional pressure on Islamic State (formerly ISIS/ISIL), Defense Secretary Ash Carter said. The special forces will be positioned to conduct unilateral operations into Syria.

"These special operators will over time be able to conduct raids, free hostages, gather intelligence, and capture ISIL leaders," Carter told the House Armed Services Committee in prepared remarks, using an abbreviation for Islamic State. "That creates a virtuous cycle of better intelligence, which generates more targets, more raids, and more momentum," he added.

Comment: Perhaps he meant "virtual cycle" as in: almost or nearly but not completely, simulated, artificial, imitation, make-believe. Or..."veritable cycle" as in: authentic, bona fide, genuine, indubitable. Hard to imagine, as in "virtuous cycle," given the source, context and track record, he meant morally excellent, saintly, angelic, chaste, high-minded...which would be wishful thinking at best.

There are currently about 3,400 American troops in Iraq. In November, the US announced that 50 commandos will be sent to northern Syria to advise anti-IS forces there. The Pentagon would not comment on whether those special operations troops had already arrived in the embattled country.

"Over time," the 50 forces will conduct raids in both Iraq and Syria "to put even more pressure" on IS, Carter told the committee. "The raids in Iraq will be done at the invitation of the Iraqi government and focused on defending its borders and building the [Iraqi Security Forces'] own capacity," Carter said in his prepared testimony."This force will also be in a position to conduct unilateral operations into Syria."

Comment: Obviously not at the invitation of the Syrian government, a sovereign nation. And this is somehow an international law non-issue?

Unilateral raids, which would not be sanctioned by Syrian President Bashar Assad, would represent a split from President Barack Obama's commitment to avoid ground troops in the fight against IS.

Comment: "The US heads a coalition of more than 60 countries conducting airstrikes on IS in Syria." A lot they have to show for this... "We estimate that approximately 43 percent of the revenue stream that ISIL derives from oil has been affected over the past 30 days," This was due to Russian intervention, not a credit to US/NATO anti-ISIL efforts... "The United States has conducted more than 95 percent of the nearly 3,000 strikes against IS targets since the campaign began in September 2014." And how many of those hit civilians and/or purposefully missed their ISIL targets...unless of course it was a supplies drop.

Hard to even think what a squad of 50 will be able to do at this point. This is the best the West can come up with? On the other hand, 50 guys becomes a spearhead to allow/justify boots on the ground in Syria. Imagine the "reports" and "intelligence" these tokens will generate and how quickly the US/NATO will comply.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak urged the heads of Russian regions to pay more attention to organisation of security on energy facilities.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak asked the heads of the country's regions and energy companies to pay special attention to the protection of fuel and energy facilities against terrorist threats.

"I would like to draw attention...to the issues of counter-terrorism security of the fuel and energy complex. The Russian Energy Ministry held corresponding consultations with the [federal] subjects of the Russian Federation, with electric power industry entities, and I would like to draw attention to the organization of the relevant work, once again — checks of all the activities...additional testing and training," Novak said at the meeting on preparation for the fall-winter period.

Comment: Crimea recently suffered a major black-out after Ukraine's neo-Nazis sabotaged their energy facilities. Washington will do anything to pursue its strategy of containing Russia. Check out:

Police are investigating the 1972 fatal shooting of Patrick McVeigh in west Belfast.
The Military Reaction Force were a covert, plain clothes, intelligence-gathering machine that operated during the Troubles

PSNI detectives investigating the Military Reaction Force, a top secret, Army-run unit operating in Belfast in the early '70s have appealed to the public for information.

They want to know about the activities of the MRF in 1972 in relation to two fatal shootings and a number of other attacks.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery, from Legacy Investigation Branch, said: "We have been carrying out enquiries in relation to a number of shooting incidents between April and September 1972, during which two people were killed and a number of others were injured. We are looking at these incidents as part of an overall investigation into the activities of the Military Reaction Force at the time.

"We know these events took place a long time ago and we know they took place during one of the worst years of the Troubles when many shootings occurred but we believe there are people out there who can help us progress this investigation and we are appealing to them to contact us."

The Military Reaction Force was also referred to as the Military Reconnaissance Force and the Mobile Reconnaissance Force.

It was a covert intelligence-gathering and counter-insurgency unit that operated during the Troubles/ and under Operation Banner.

'Gladio' style, 'false flag' operations are an effective tool for keeping the populace fearful and therefore compliant and seeking increased protection from the very creators of that manufactured chaos and terror. This 'modus operandi' will invariably continue until people become more informed as to the real nature of the 'terrorist threat'.

Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) officers participate in a simulated millitant attack on a shopping centre during a Metropolitan Police training program for armed officers, in London December 1, 2015.
Counter-terror police are being trained to rapidly tackle terrorist gunmen at the scene of an attack rather than pause to tend to wounded victims and colleagues to minimize the total number of casualties, a top police official has said.

Senior Metropolitan Police official Patricia Gallan told reporters Wednesday that armed officers need to prioritize neutralizing the attackers.

"We are asking them to do something different from what they did previously. It's not about standing back but about going forwards towards the threat," said Gallan, the assistant commissioner for special crime and operations.

Russian Defense Ministry presents evidence of Turkey's role in ISIS' oil trade

Syria

Turkey's leadership, including President Erdogan and his family, is involved in illegal oil trade with Islamic State militants, says the Russian Defense Ministry, stressing that Turkey is the final destination for oil smuggled from Syria and Iraq.

The Russian Defense Ministry held a major briefing on new findings concerning IS funding in Moscow on Wednesday.

According to Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, Russia is aware of three main oil smuggling routes to Turkey.

"Today, we are presenting only some of the facts that confirm that a whole team of bandits and Turkish elites stealing oil from their neighbors is operating in the region," Antonov said, adding that this oil "in large quantities" enters the territory of Turkey via "live oil pipelines," consisting of thousands of oil trucks.

Cameron suffers blow as UK committee refuses to support Syria airstrikes

UK Prime Minister David Cameron has suffered a blow in his push for British forces to take part in bombing Daesh targets, aslo known as ISIL, in Syria, after the UK parliament's influential Foreign Affairs Select Committee concluded that Cameron had "not adequately addressed concerns" about military action.

Responding to Cameron's address to parliament last week, where he put forward the case for Britain to join the US-led international coalition in carrying out airstrikes on Daesh targets, the committee said the prime minister had failed to justify airstrikes in Syria.

Comment: Is a false flag in Britain going to happen to 'convince' Britain of the 'need' to join the coalition?
