And again not the Russians: Mystery vessel in Swedish waters wasn't 'foreign sub', military says

Emerging and vanishing 'Russian subs' have hyped up Swedish media headlines for years. After conspiracy fuss on Twitter over a recent elusive vessel, the military admitted that it was neither 'foreign', nor a 'sub'.

Spotting a 'mysterious ' submarine off the Swedish coast should probably be added to the 'top' list of the Nordic country's visitors attractions. Since October this year Swedish-speaking Twitter has been boiling over with conspiracy theories after a new video with 'a new sub' emerged in local media. The alleged sub was filmed by a group of youngsters at a sailing camp at Lidingö Island in June.

A South Korea won note
South Korea and Iran have agreed to switch to national currencies in trade exchanges as the sides aim to strengthen relations despite the US sanctions on Tehran.

The agreement is of great importance to both countries, Yonhap News Agency reported, explaining that the deal indicated Korea's concerns about relations with Iran.

The countries also agreed to make payments and settle their financial and banking accounts using the South Korean national currency, the won. That will allow South Korean and Iranian companies to continue their extensive exchanges in various fields.

Official: Hungary may not be able to stop potential migrant attack on country's border

A Hungarian police officer watches as migrants arrive at the train station in Hegyeshalom, Hungary.
The Hungarian government has repeatedly opposed the EU migration policy, with Prime Minister Viktor Orban stressing earlier this year that Budapest would not change its stance on illegal migration and would stand up to Brussels if necessary.

The Hungarian border is protected from refugees, but nothing can be guaranteed in case of a massive migrant assault on the area, Janos Hajdu, Director-General of the Hungarian Counter Terrorism Center, told a press conference in Moscow.

"Both police and army units are deployed in Hungary's southern border which is equipped with fences and alarm systems. Although we are ready for any situation, I cannot say now whether we will be able to stop a large crowd [of migrants] attacking the border," Hajdu said, adding that such a scenario will unlikely take place.

Comment: Viktor Orban is to be commended for protecting his citizens. He and his staff are facing the reality they have seen develop in Germany, France and the Nordic countries who have allowed virtually unlimited migration. He is seeking to prevent the disaster it has been in those countries.

Is Palestine-Israel security coordination coming to an end?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shakes hands with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (L) during the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem on 30 September, 2016
The Central Council of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), which is chaired by the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Fatah President Mahmoud Abbas, announced on 30 October its decision to end all of its commitments towards Israel, including all kinds of security coordination and economic ties.

Commenting on this decision, Yair Lapid, the chairman of the Israeli Party Yesh Atid, said: "The decisions of the PLO are funny. Can Abbas deny recognising the sun - security coordination?" The Israeli Broadcasting Committee KAN reported Lapid adding: "For us, we will not recognise them [the PLO and PA]. We will continue building a strong and safe country."

This decision has been made by the PLO Central Council several times in the past, but PLO and PA President Mahmoud Abbas has never adopted it because he himself knows very well that he and all the other political bodies he presides over would never survive if security coordination ceased. "We walk under the shoes of the Israeli occupation," he once said in relation to the control the PA is subjected to.

CIA Democrats: The plan to stack Congress with ex-spooks and military operatives (UPDATES)

CIA Logo
Part I: Introduction

An extraordinary number of former intelligence and military operatives from the CIA, Pentagon, National Security Council and State Department are seeking nomination as Democratic candidates for Congress in the 2018 midterm elections. The potential influx of military-intelligence personnel into the legislature has no precedent in US political history.

If the Democrats capture a majority in the House of Representatives on November 6, as widely predicted, candidates drawn from the military-intelligence apparatus will comprise as many as half of the new Democratic members of Congress. They will hold the balance of power in the lower chamber of Congress.

Both push and pull are at work here. Democratic Party leaders are actively recruiting candidates with a military or intelligence background for competitive seats where there is the best chance of ousting an incumbent Republican or filling a vacancy, frequently clearing the field for a favored "star" recruit.

Comment: As we now know, the Democrats picked up 27 seats in the House of Representatives - more than enough to set much of the CIA-inspired agenda of wresting political control - not only over the half-hearted Republican party - but effectively over anything Trump will try to do as well. He will now likely be faced with a ramped-up onslaught of "investigations" and calls for his impeachment.

Venezuela wants to repatriate its gold from Britain, reduce reliance on the dollar - UPDATE: Bank of England REFUSES request

The Venezuelan government is looking to repatriate around $550 million in gold bars from the Bank of England due to increasing concerns about looming US sanctions.

Caracas is planning to bring 14 tons of gold, held in Britain, back to Venezuela, according to unnamed public officials, as quoted by Reuters. The UK regulator has reportedly sought to clarify what Venezuela plans to do with the gold.

The plan on repatriating the gold bars, kept in London, has been reportedly discussed for nearly two months amid increased difficulties in getting insurance for the shipment needed to move a large gold cargo.

"They are still trying to find insurance coverage, because the costs are high," the source told the agency.

Venezuela's foreign exchange holdings have significantly declined since the already-imposed US penalties banned the country's government from borrowing cash on international markets.

A new round of anti-Venezuelan sanctions was introduced by the White House last week. They ban US citizens from dealing with entities and people involved with gold sales in Venezuela, which the US calls "corrupt and deceptive."

Comment: Update 7 November

Sputnik reports:
Earlier, Caracas indicated that it was looking to repatriate some 14 tons of gold bars back from the UK out of concern that the bullion may be affected by harsh US sanctions against the Latin American country.

The Bank of England is refusing to release Venezuela's gold bars, worth about $550 million or £420 million, back to Caracas, with British officials understood to have referred to "standard" anti-money laundering measures, The Times reports, citing unnamed sources.

"There are concerns that Mr. [Nicolas] Maduro may seize the gold, which is owned by the state, and sell it for personal gain," the newspaper explains.

How is this not interfering with the internal affairs of another country? Venezuelans should decide if Mr. Maduro is abusing his office.

On Tuesday, two informed sources told Reuters that the Venezuelan government has been trying to move its gold from Bank of England vaults back to Venezuela for nearly two months, with the shipment thought to be held up over difficulties in obtaining insurance.

Washington imposed new restrictions against Venezuela last week targeting the country's gold exports, accusing the Maduro government of "looting" Venezuela's stocks of the precious metals amid the country's economic crisis. The sanctions, which target US individuals and companies trading in Venezuelan gold, was announced by US National Security Advisor John Bolton last week, with Bolton also branding Caracas a member of a "troika of tyranny" along with Cuba and Nicaragua.

The new 'Axis of Evil'?

Venezuela has made a concerted effort to become a major gold exporter, and is engaged in certifying some 32 gold fields, and building 54 processing plants in a bid to become what Maduro said would be "the second largest gold reserve on Earth."

The Venezuelan government has made an effort to reduce dependence on US-led or controlled financial institutions and instruments, including the dollar, and committed last month to trading in euros, yuan and "other convertible currencies" amid US restrictions.

In recent years, Venezuela has faced an acute economic crisis accompanied by hyperinflation, the devaluation of its currency, the bolivar, and goods shortages in shops, with the crisis caused by crippling US restrictions as well as mismanagement on the part of state oil company PDSVA. Winning a second term in office in May 2018, Maduro promised to make economic recovery one of the government's top priorities. Amid the difficult situation facing his country, Maduro has repeatedly accused the US and Colombia of plotting to overthrow the Venezuelan government in an invasion or coup.

SWIFT caves to US pressure to suspend Iranian banks, now faces threat of punitive action from Brussels

SWIFT
The international financial messaging system SWIFT has announced the suspension of several Iranian banks from its service. The move comes as the United States re-imposes nuclear sanctions on Tehran.

"In keeping with our mission of supporting the resilience and integrity of the global financial system as a global and neutral service provider, SWIFT is suspending certain Iranian banks' access to the messaging system," SWIFT said.

The Belgium-based financial messaging service added: "This step, while regrettable, has been taken in the interest of the stability and integrity of the wider global financial system."

SWIFT's decision further undermines EU efforts to maintain trade with Iran and save an international deal with Tehran to curtail its nuclear program, after President Donald Trump pulled the US out in May. Being cut off from SWIFT makes it difficult for Iran to get paid for exports and to pay for imports.

Delusional ex-ambassador McFaul switches to Russian to celebrate midterm victory over... Putin?

mcfaul

Michael McFaul
Many people celebrated the Democratic Party's takeover over the House, on social media, but one person in particular couldn't help switching to the Russian language to celebrate, what he believes to be, a defeat of Vladimir Putin.

Michael McFaul, who served as Barack Obama's ambassador to Moscow and became an avid commentator on all things Russian after leaving office, is apparently overjoyed to see his favorite party back in control of the lower chamber of the US Congress. He cheered the result with a post in Russian saying: "Victory! Regards to VVP," using the initials of Russia's president, whose full name is Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Another post simply said "Yes!" in Russian in response to the expected victory.

Comment: Perhaps McFaul is crowing (currently) because with a House Dem majority he feels a little more insulated against an investigation of his part in passing Bill Browder's fraudulent Magnitsky act. View Andrei Nekrasov's documentary: The Magnitsky Act - Behind the Scenes

Starving Yemeni children face 'imminent risk of death' due to Saudi assault on Hodeidah

An eight-year-old malnourished boy lies on a bed in the emergency ward of a hospital in Sanaa, Yemen September 27, 2016.
The Saudi-led coalition's attack on the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah could have catastrophic consequences for civilians, especially malnourished children in urgent need of care, UNICEF has warned.

Heavy bombings and gunfire have already impeded access to Al Thawra hospital, a medical facility that provides much-needed care to children caught up in the fighting, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) said in a press release.

Hodeidah and its neighboring governorates account for approximately 40 percent of the 400,000 children in the country who suffer from serious malnutrition, and some of the sickest are taken to Al Thawra for urgent care. Children being treated at the hospital's intensive care unit now face "imminent risk of death," according to the aid group.

MI6 reportedly knew terror-suspect was tortured into giving false Iraq-al-Qaeda info

UK ministers relied on questions from a tortured terror suspect to make their case for the Iraq War, the Middle East Eye (MEE) has claimed. British spies fed questions to the suspect even though they knew of his mistreatment.

According to redacted documents, seen by the MEE, an MI6 officer knew that Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi was placed inside a sealed coffin by the CIA at a US-run Afghanistan based prison. Al-Libi - alive inside the coffin - was then taken, aboard a truck, to an aircraft that was to fly to Egypt.

The MI6 officer and his colleagues reported the incident to their department's London HQ, stating that they "were tempted to speak out" on behalf of al-Libi, but failed to do so, adding: "The event reinforced the uneasy feeling of operating in a legal wilderness."

Once al-Libi was in Egypt, a country with a well-documented history of human rights abuses, both MI6 and MI5 fed questions to the detainee, receiving reports from his Egyptian interrogators.

Al-Libi, under torture, told his jailers that Osama Bin Laden's Al-Qaeda had links to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapons program. The claim was cited as fact by US President George W. Bush as he made the case for war.

Upon being returned to the CIA, al-Libi stated that he had lied to avoid further torture. By that point the US, along with the UK, had already invaded Iraq.

Comment: This is what the NKVD/KGB used to do. They knew the result they wanted (i.e. the charge with which they planned to find you guilty), and then they tortured you until you told them what they wanted to hear. This confession was then used as proof of their predetermined conclusion.

The U.S. and UK have spent the last years hating on Russia, a holdover of their hatred of the Communist regime. Maybe they should stop and ask themselves: have we become what we hate?
