Obama committing "lawless aggression", will add more ground forces using pretext of "military advisors"

Image
US President Barack Obama is "committing lawless aggression" in Iraq, says political commentator Stephen Lendman who believes the deployment of "military advisors" to the country is a pretext to more "boots on the ground."

President Obama has approved the deployment of 130 more "military advisers" to northern Iraq, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced on Tuesday.

In addition, the Obama administration is considering deploying American ground forces to Iraq despite repeated assurances that it would not put boots on the ground in the crisis-hit country.

The proposed military mission, officials said, is aimed at rescuing thousands of Izadi refugees who are trapped by ISIL terrorists atop a barren mountain in northern Iraq, The Wall Street Journal reports.

"All US troops are trained combat troops. They are probably Special Forces, meaning they are 'trained killers' and where a 130 show up, you can expect more to follow," Lendman, author and syndicated columnist, told Press TV in a phone interview on Wednesday.

Paul Craig Roberts: NATO would be no match for the Russian military on its own territory

Image
Press TV has conducted an interview with Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary of US Treasury from Atlanta, about Russia sending a humanitarian aid convoy to Ukraine under an agreement between Moscow and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview

Press TV: Well Paul Craig Roberts, this crisis keeps escalating. My first question initially of course is what does Russia have in mind do you think?

Roberts: If Russia wanted to invade Ukraine they would not need a pretext much less would they use a pretext of sending humanitarian aid. If Russia wants to invade the parts of the Ukraine that have voted to disassociate from Ukraine and rejoin Russia it can do so it will, no one could stop Russia from this.

And so I think the Ukrainian government continues to show how ridiculous it is in these stupid kinds of public statements that it makes. Clearly what is going on in Ukraine is the absence of Russian help and that is why the "separatists" as they are called are having their apartment buildings blown up, their homes blown up and their civilian infrastructure blown up.

Essentially what the American stooge government in Kiev is doing in Ukraine is what the Israelis are doing to Gaza. They are slaughtering civilians and if the Red Cross recognizes that this is a humanitarian crisis and is cooperating with the Russian government to send aid, then you can bet that exactly that is what is going on. They are sending aid; people were being murdered by the American stooge government in Kiev.

Putin's popularity continues to rise, with 82 percent of Russians saying they'd vote for him if elections were to be held

Some 82 percent of Russians with firm political preferences say they would vote for Vladimir Putin if a presidential poll were to be held on the nearest weekend, according to the latest research by independent pollster the Levada Center.

Of all people who took part in the poll, 52 percent said they were ready to vote for Putin. In January 2014, the share of such people was about 29 percent and that means that Vladimir Putin's presidential rating has doubled over almost seven months.

Putin's closest contenders were the head of the Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov who got seven percent of potential votes and the leader of the populist nationalist party LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky with 5 percent. Current Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who was President between 2008 and 2012, currently has only 2 percent of supporters.

Another influential sociological think-tank, the Public Opinion Foundation, conducted similar research in early August which found that 68 percent of all potential voters were ready to support Putin at presidential elections, compared to 58 percent in March and 46 percent in January.

Obama's unexpected visit to Martha's Vineyard Golf Club leads to frisks and pat downs for all guests

Image
Obama smiles as he pats Cyrus Walker's arm.
Regulars at the Vineyard Golf Club in Martha's Vineyard were gobsmacked when President Obama unexpectedly strolled onto a nearby green and they were immediately frisked. "There was no warning he was coming," sniffed a guest.

"There was security on the way in, but no word as to why they were there." The member added, "While eating, overlooking the golf course, guests had to stand up and be wanded." One asked if he could finish his hot soup first, and an Obama security man cracked, ominously, "So, you're not cooperating?"

But Obama did "go around and shake everyone's hand waiting on the course." His vacation's been called "tone-deaf" by some amid new military action in Iraq.

President Correa of Ecuador: We don't need anybody's permission to trade with Russia

Ecuador doesn't need anybody's permission to export agricultural products to Russia, which now has a big gap that needs to be filled after it banned supplies from a number of western countries, said President Rafael Correa.

"I want to immediately say that we don't need to get anybody's permission to sell products to friendly countries: as far as we know Latin America isn't a part of the European Union," as RIA cites Correa's Tuesday comments to the Andes press agency.

His comments come a day after the Financial Times said the EU was going to persuade Latin American countries not to replace its agricultural exports to Russia.

"Let's wait for the official complaint from [from the EU] and we'll give a response to that," Correa said.

At present, bananas, cut flowers, coffee, and tea are the key goods exported by Ecuador to Russia. Data from the country's embassy in Moscow says that revenue from sale of bananas and roses are the second biggest outside of oil. In the first five months of 2014 Ecuador exported 580,000 tons of bananas and 9,300 tons of roses.

Pentagon proposing ground combat deployment under cover of Yazidi "rescue operation"

The US war in Iraq is escalating at a remarkable rate, and less than a week after the commencement of the air war, the Pentagon is putting the finishing touches on a proposal to send ground troops into open combat operations against ISIS.

It's the exact thing US officials have repeatedly promised never to do - send ground troops into combat roles in Iraq. Yet with the Pentagon now having committed to air drops of aid to Yazidis, part of the new air war, they're already looking toward the next step: a "rescue operation" that would put US boots on the ground, in direct combat with ISIS at the base of Mount Sinjar.

Comment: Don't be fooled for a second that US forces care one iota about the Yazidi suffering. This is a cover story for securing oil resources and ousting democratically-elected al-Maliki.

Pentagon restarts cold war plan by adding new tanks, vehicles to massive cache in Norway Caves

Cold War Plan to Stash Vehicles in Northern Europe Keeps Growing

Pentagon officials today confirmed a plan to send massive amounts of new tanks and armored vehicles to the Norwegian countryside to be stashed inside of a series of caves in case the US wants to use them in wars in the region.

The plan is part of the rarely discussed "Marine Corps Prepositioning Program," which began at the height of the Cold War as a way for the US to stash large numbers of vehicles in Europe or other possible combat zones to use against the Soviet Union. The Norway cave system was first established in 1981.

Comment: Why Norway and why is the US spending tax money on hiding tanks in caves there?

Pentagon announces it has destroyed all of Syria's sarin gas stockpiles

The entire Syrian stockpile of precursors required to make sarin gas has been destroyed by US experts on board a US neutralizer ship, Pentagon officials have confirmed.

"I am pleased to announce that the crew aboard Cape Ray has completed neutralization of 100 percent of the sarin precursor aboard the ship, which amounts to about 581 metric tons neutralized," Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren said.

Warren added the Cape Ray crew are now in the process of neutralizing 19.8 tons of sulfur mustard and should be completed by the end of August.

Syria agreed to the destruction of its chemical weapons through a US-Russia brokered deal last September. The decision was sparked by a deadly sarin gas attack in August 21 near Damascus that killed hundreds of people. The West blamed President Bashar Assad forces for it, while Damascus accused the rebels of committing that terror act as a provocation.

SOTT Focus: Genocide in Gaza: Viable Palestinian strategic options in the face of Israeli tactics

The Lone Ranger and Tonto are watching a horde of Indian braves bear down on them in full battle fury. "Looks like we're in trouble, Tonto," says the Lone Ranger to his pal. "What you mean 'we,' white man?" Tonto responds.
The situation in Palestine mirrors very closely the problems faced by Native American Indians from early American settlers. The American settlers came up against, and ultimately annihilated the Native American Indian populations. Of the estimated 15 million Native Americans, nearly all of them were wiped out. According to some estimates, only a few million people in the U.S. today can claim significant heritage from Native American Indians. Those that were not murdered where simply 'bred' out of existence, either by rape or intermarrying with 'white men'.

It's important to note that the eradication of the Native Americans took a very long time, with many successive 'invasions' and land 'confiscations', as well as small wars and rebellions. The specific history of this conflict is well-known, and where it is not, the reader is invited to review extant information on the topic. The comparison between early American settlers and Israeli settlers is striking and disturbing.

We all know how often 'white men' mourn what was done by their ancestors in the 'New World'. It's a list of crimes that many wish could be undone.

Some of the deeds included:
  1. Buffalo hunted to extinction simply to remove a major food source of the Native Americans. While many were also slaughtered during settlement operations, or while making railroads, actual plans to 'starve' Native Americans by killing Buffalo were implemented.
  2. Blankets and supplies intentionally infected with smallpox and 'gifted' to Native Americans, slaughtering whole populations by a slow and painful death. These were not accidents.
  3. Both official and unofficial 'posses' routinely hounded and slaughtered Native Americans, often on the pretext of some crime. White criminals took to disguising their crimes by leaving Native American paraphernalia at the scene or scalping their victims.

U.S. will send 130 "military advisors" to Iraq

US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced that the United States has sent another 130 "military advisers" to Iraq's Kurdistan region in an ongoing effort to halt the advance of Islamic State militants.

Hagel made the announcement while speaking to troops in California. In a statement describing the decision, the defense official said the new team would "assess the scope of the humanitarian mission and develop additional humanitarian assistance options beyond the current airdrop effort in support of displaced Iraqi civilians trapped on Sinjar Mountain by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant."

The new "assessment team" reportedly arrived in Erbil on Tuesday, and is comprised of a significant portion of Marines. Officials however emphasized that the new advisers are not combat troops, as President Obama has insisted American troops would not become involved in another ground campaign in Iraq.
