Once again a plan for democratic transition in Syria has been drawn up by a coalition of opposition groups meeting in London, supported by the usual suspects in the shape of Turkey, the EU, US, and Gulf States. It is described as a detailed plan committing Syria to democratic and religious pluralism. Predictably, and the reason why it is a non-starter, it contains the pre-condition of Bashar al-Assad's removal from power.

The coalition behind this ludicrous scheme goes by the name of the Higher Negotiating Committee (HNC), and is said to comprise thirty different 'moderate' political and military groups united in the objective of removing Assad as the country's president. Who exactly these people represent in Syria itself, nobody knows. What we do know is that Assad retains the support of the vast majority of his people, who will not accept any colonial arrangement to depose their president.

The Joint Sea-2016 started this Monday; that's the fifth annual China-Russia naval drill, featuring stalwarts from both navies in action at the eastern waters of Zhanjiang, in Guangdong province, the HQ of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy Nanhai Fleet.

Considering this is the first time that the Joint Sea is happening in the South China Sea, apocalyptic alarms from the usual suspects could not be more predictable - and thoroughly dismissed by the Beijing leadership.

The setting — Laos — could not be more strategically appropriate for China. Key planned projects include the $1.6 billion Luang Marsh Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Vientiane, and — what else - a 472 km railway between Kunming in Yunnan province and Vientiane, with an extension to Thailand, to be completed by 2021. That will be part of the Southeast Asian branch of the New Silk Roads.

The US is confusing international order with an "American" one, said Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, questioning Washington's policies. It comes in response to Ash Carter's accusations that Moscow wants to erode the principles of international order.

In the statement, Shoigu noted that numerous US-led interventions have actually contributed to the security challenges that the international community is currently facing.

Last week, a new political structure was created in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo called the Syrian National Resistance, which includes Arabs, Turkmens, Kurds and Alawites. Secretary General of the movement, Rezan Hido, spoke to Sputnik about the aims and objectives of this new resistance.

According to Hido, the resistance is going to prevent attempts to divide Syria. He said that the actions of the Turkish Armed Forces is the direct occupation of Syrian territories and the Turkish province of Hatay and its Iskenderun region belong to Syria, thus the National Resistance intends to pursue its accession to Syria.

The Syrian National Resistance is a Syrian organization which consists of Arabs, Assyrians, Turkmens, Kurds and representatives of other nations. "Our goal is to fight against terrorist groups, primarily Daesh and al-Nusra Front. They have to stop their activities in the Syrian territory; otherwise Syria will not be able to become a democratic state. We intend to wage resolute struggle against terrorists," Hido said.

In a newly published video, the US-based Turkish opposition leader, Fetullah Gülen said that his 'sleeping soldiers' were awaiting an order to take action, implying that Turkey may soon be faced with another attempt to overthrow the government.

Gulen in his new video message likened his followers to brain cells, stating that the brain had more than 10 billion cells, he said all of them awaited an order, a direction, Daily Sabah reported.

"God did not put them there for no reason, if there are that many soldiers already there, you can conquer many things," he said, pointing out a possible infiltration in the army.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter today said the United States and its allies remain committed to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity during his bilateral meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak at the U.N. Peacekeeping Defense Ministerial in London, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said in a readout of the meeting.

Carter is in London as part of a three-day trip to the U.K. and Norway. The two leaders discussed the fragile ceasefire between the Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian forces, Cook said. Carter emphasized that the United States, together with its allies, remains committed to the full implementation of theMinsk Agreements in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, the press secretary said.

As a demonstration of continued U.S. support for Ukraine, Carter and Poltorak co-signed a bilateral partner concept, a document that provides a framework for the United States and Ukraine to enhance the defense capacity of Ukraine's forces, advance critical Ukrainian defense reforms, improve resource management processes and boost defense technology cooperation, Cook said.
