Puppet Masters
Not only are both sides fighting to win Syria, but they are fighting to convince the world that their actions are just. As part of this conflict, both sides are waging an information war that began in earnest as soon as the first Russian bomb reached its target. The Russians claimed that they had bombed ISIS strongholds, while the US government was adamant that they had just blown up moderate rebels. President Obama has even gone so far as to say that Russia's air campaign is strengthening ISIS. The first shots of the information war had been fired.
Russia is strengthening her alliance in the Middle East and equipping the Lebanese army. The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that this support for Lebanon came with no strings attached.
Comment: Russia is making good on its promise to support legitimate governments. Lebanon has also suffered from the scourge of ISIS, though not as directly as Syria has.
"The airstrikes were being conducted night and day from the Khmeimim airbase and throughout the whole of Syria. In three days we managed to undermine the terrorists' material-technical base and significantly reduce their combat potential,"Lieutenant General Andrey Kartapolov, head of the Main Operation Directorate of the General Staff of Russia's armed forces, told reporters on Saturday.
He added that according to Russian intelligence the militants are fleeing the area that was in their control.
"There is panic and defection among them. About 600 mercenaries have left their positions and are trying to reach Europe," he said.
Washington has notified the Russian Defense Ministry that there were only militants in the areas of Russia's military operation against IS in Syria, he added. "The Americans informed us during contacts that there was no one except terrorists in this region," he said.
"Over the past 24 hours, Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24M fighter jets have performed 20 sorties and hit nine Islamic State installations," Igor Konashenkov, Russia's Defense Ministry spokesman, reported.
Comment: So much for the so called "Long War on Terror". Russia takes out the ISIS power structure within days, something the United States refused to do for years.

US paratroopers take part in NATO's Baltic Pirana war drills in Rukla, Lithuania. (Please tell that American soldier the moving foliage is a dead giveaway.)
The war games, which will last until October 28, will see 500 Lithuanian soldiers join forces with Belgian, American and Luxembourgian troops. Some 280 soldiers from Belgium and 45 from Luxembourg have brought with them their own hardware to test it in action as part of the NATO Rapid Reaction Force. Belgians have arrived on board armored Piranha infantry vehicles, while Luxembourg's soldiers delivered Dingo II reconnaissance vehicles.
The joint Belgian and Luxembourg company will train to provide support for the US Army's 12th Combat Aviation Brigade soldiers. Currently around 200 US troops are stationed in the country on rotation.
Comment: Sounds reminiscent of Jade Helm - moving within populated areas, involving locals...pumping up the propaganda, pushing civilian fear/safety buttons. Predatory dependency works both ways between NATO and the US and practice makes perfect - well sort of, one would think. Will the Russian military strategy keep a lid on the West as it cleans up the ISIS mess and NATO/US troops have this huffa-puffa distraction? What are the chances?
"The steps Russia is taking and the bombing campaign in Syria is unacceptable in any way for Turkey... Unfortunately, Russia is making a grave mistake," Erdogan told a news conference at Istanbul airport before leaving for a visit to France.
Comment: These statements from Recep Tayyip Erdogan should come to no surprise to anyone. He, after all, has a lot invested in seeing that Assad's government be toppled. From this article we learn that:
The real reason the no-fly zone issue has resurfaced is because it was one of the concessions Obama made to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the use of Incirlik airbase.
[...]
Turkey had three demands:1 - Safe zones in north Syria (which means that Turkey would basically annex a good portion of Syrian sovereign territory.)Did Obama agree to all three of these demands before Erdogan agreed to let the USAF use Incirlik?
2 - A no-fly zone (which would allow either Turkish troops, US Special Forces or US-backed jihadi militants to conduct their military operations with the support of US air cover.)
3 - A commitment from the US that it will help Turkey remove Assad.
Yes, at least I think he did, which is why I think we are at the beginning of Phase 2 of the US aggression against Syria. Incirlik changes everything. US bombers, drones and fighters can enter Syrian airspace in just 15 minutes instead of 3 to 4 hours from Bahrain. That means more sorties, more surveillance drones, and more air-cover for US-backed militias and Special Forces on the ground. It means the US can impose a de facto no-fly zone over most of Syria that will expose and weaken Syrian forces tipping the odds decisively in favor of Obama's jihadi army. Incirlik is a game-changer, the cornerstone of US policy in Syria. With access to Incirlik, victory is within Washington's reach. That's how important Incirlik is.
And that's why the normally-cautious Putin decided to deploy his warplanes, troops and weaponry so soon after the Incirlik deal was signed. He could see the handwriting on the wall. He knew he had to either act fast and turn the tide or accept the fact that the US and Turkey were going to topple Assad sometime after Turkey's snap elections on November 1. That was his timeline for action. So he did the right thing and joined the fighting.
In a day the Russian army managed to destroy FIVE strongholds of ISIS
Today, the ambassador of Syria in Moscow thanked Russia for the decision to launch operations against ISIL. The coalition, according to the diplomat, achieved no significant results in the fight against terrorists.
The Syrian ambassador also said that Russia is attacking only the radical group "Islamic state". Today the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that many countries and media outlets are providing false information about Syria. For example, yesterday it was reported that as a result of the strikes civilians were killed, but it turned out that the information about their death appeared before the Russian planes even took off.
Note that the Russian aviation in one day destroyed five strongholds of the"Islamic State". In the end, Russian aircraft in a day managed to do more against ISIL than American aviation coalition was able to do in a year.

Comment: How is it that Russia is able to do such damage to the Islamic State in one day, while the world's most powerful military force has accomplished so little? It might have something to do with the reports that the US has avoided targeting ISIS positions, has essentially armed the Islamic State, allows it's financing to continue, and uses terrorism as a means of accomplishing it's geopolitical goals. This presents another perspective: ISIS and other terrorist groups are the Unites States' true military force.
Based on intelligence gathered from a variety of sources, including "space and drone reconnaissance," the ministry confirmed the "total destruction" of terrorist targets in Idlib Province by Su-24 M jets. One of the targets was an Islamic State command post. The other was a terrorist training camp.
Earlier in the day, Russian military also released footage of the overnight air raids on four terrorist facilities, including an ammunition depot near Idlib, a three-level HQ near Hamah, and a reported car-bomb plant in the north of Homs.
Russian pilots also prevented the Islamic State fighters from restoring one of its command posts in Hama Province which had been struck by Russian jets on Wednesday.

The aerial bombing raids took place between 2:08am and 3:15am local time and were carried out at approximately 15 minute intervals, with the main hospital building being "repeatedly hit very precisely" during each raid, MSF said. The tragedy happened despite the fact that MSF had provided the US-led command with the GPS coordinates of the hospital to make sure that the hospital would not be hit.
Comment: Saudi and US authorities were told the exact location of the hospital to avoid the building being hit during hostilities. After the bombing began in the area, US and Afghan military officials were again informed to not hit the hospital. What have they done?See also:

The alliance has kicked off its massive "Trident Juncture 2015" exercises which will last until November 16. Along with the NATO member states, seven more partner nations are participating in the drills: Australia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Sweden and Ukraine.
Some 36,000 troops as well as more than 60 warships and about 200 aircraft will participate in the drills which makes it the biggest since 2002 when about 40,000 troops took part in NATO's "Strong Resolve" military exercise.
"The purpose of the exercise is to train and test the NATO Response Force, a highly ready and technologically advanced multinational force made up of land, air, maritime and Special Forces components," said General Hans Lothar Domrose, the Commander of Joint Force Command Brunssum.
"Enhancing our response forces is a key part of NATO's overall effort to adapt to emerging security challenges. TRJE15 [Trident Juncture 2015] has been designed to ensure that our concepts and procedures will work in the event of a real crisis because our job is to always be prepared to defend the people, territory, and values of this Alliance," he added.
The drills will consist of two parts: the Command Post Exercise (CPX) for Strategic and Operational level staff, and the Live Exercise (LIVEX) for tactical level troop engagements.
Comment: NATO has created death, destruction and humanitarian disasters wherever it has 'landed'. Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Ukraine and the list goes on. What an accomplishment.
