Ukraine aid will bankrupt future US generations - congressman

The US should end its financial support for Ukraine and instead focus on how Kiev can settle the conflict, Republican congressman Eli Crane has said. His comments come as House Speaker Mike Johnson said the chamber is likely to vote soon on providing Kiev with new funding.

Several months ago, US President Joe Biden proposed a supplemental security package that would earmark around $60 billion in assistance to Ukraine, but it has since remained stalled in Congress as Republicans demand more focus on security at the Mexican border.

On Sunday, however, Johnson signaled that the package could come up for a vote soon, with "some important innovations." Among these, he said, is a possibility of extending a loan to Ukraine - an idea favored by GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump - as well as seizing Russian sovereign assets frozen in the US and transferring the proceeds to Kiev.

Since the start of the Ukraine conflict, the West has frozen around $300 billion in Russian assets, most of which are under European control. While numerous Western officials have proposed seizing the funds to finance Ukraine, many have pointed out that there is no legal basis for doing so. Moscow, for its part, has called the blocking "theft," warning of retaliation if its funds were to be confiscated.

Comment: Congressman Crane is right. Additional funding shouldn't be on the table, but a peace deal should be.

Israel's destruction of Palestinians: A genocide foretold

death grip
A Genocide Foretold – by Mr. Fish
The genocide in Gaza is the final stage of a process begun by Israel decades ago. Anyone who did not see this coming blinded themselves to the character and ultimate goals of the apartheid state.

There are no surprises in Gaza. Every horrifying act of Israel's genocide has been telegraphed in advance. It has been for decades. The dispossession of Palestinians of their land is the beating heart of Israel's settler colonial project. This dispossession has had dramatic historical moments — 1948 and 1967 — when huge parts of historic Palestine were seized and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were ethnically cleansed. Dispossession has also occurred in increments — the slow-motion theft of land and steady ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The incursion on Oct. 7 into Israel by Hamas and other resistance groups, which left 1,154 Israelis, tourists and migrant workers dead and saw about 240 people taken hostage, gave Israel the pretext for what it has long craved — the total erasure of Palestinians.

Comment: And its become clear that the majority of Israelis killed suffered at the hands of the IDF itself - not Hamas.

Ukrainian military leaders know they can't win on battlefield - Guardian

Their army's weakness has prompted Kiev's strikes on Russian infrastructure, senior officers have allegedly told the London newspaper.

Ukraine has no other option but to launch attacks inside Russia, including on its oil infrastructure, because its army faces continued setbacks on the battlefield, The Guardian has reported, citing the leadership of the country's military intelligence service, the GUR.

Officers who allegedly spoke to the British newspaper were candid about Kiev's desperate military situation. GUR Brigadier-General Dmitry Timkov said his country was like a patient on life support.
"We are attached to a drip. We have enough drugs to stay alive. But, if the West wants us to win, we need the full treatment," he admitted, referring to the dwindling quantities of military aid coming from Kiev's western backers.

UK judges, intelligence experts call for immediate halt to Israeli arms sales, 'may render UK complicit in genocide'

Three former Supreme Court justices have joined more than 600 members of the British legal profession in calling for the government to halt arms sales to Israel, saying it could make Britain complicit in genocide in Gaza.

Their call was also backed by two of the country's leading intelligence experts, who argued that Britain needed to use any leverage it could to persuade Israel, and its biggest backer the United States, to change course in the conflict.

The British government has been a staunch ally of Israel since the eruption of hostilities on Oct. 7 but Foreign Secretary David Cameron has hardened his language in recent months over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Comment: As the conspiracy to oust future Labour leader and staunch advocate of Palestine, Jeremy Corbyn, proved, Israel's corruption of British politics is profound, and has been for decades, and more.

Comment: This report follows an internal leak a few days ago that revealed the UK's government's own lawyers had also found that Israel was breaking international law:

Denmark fires defence chief, withdraws frigate from Red Sea operation, over ship's dangerous 'technical issues'

Iver Huitfeldt
© Source: Nick / Forsvaret / Danish Defence ForcesIver Huitfeldt on station in the Red Sea. The Danish contribution to Operation Prosperity Guardian in the Red Sea has been cut short by approximately two weeks, following issues with the air defences aboard the frigate HDMS Iver Huitfeldt during an engagement of a group of 15 Houthi drones on March 9.
Defence news site OLFI was first to report on the issues, which included the frigate being unable to use its ESSM air defence missiles during half an hour, as well as "up to half" of the rounds fired from the twin 76 mm guns detonating too early and close to the ship. Despite these issues, the frigate managed to down four of the incoming drones, with the rest being handled by other vessels. Following a 30 minute reboot of the air defence system, the ESSM was back on line and three missiles as well as 50-100 rounds of 76 mm ammunition was eventually used to bring down the four drones during the engagement which in total lasted about an hour.

The Danish Ministry of Defence has stated, on April 3, that General Flemming Lentfer - ironically with a background in the air defences and the Danish HAWK-batteries - has been relieved from his position as Chief of Defence, effective immediately. Major-general Michael Hyldgaard is taking over as acting ChoD, he in turn comes from a position as head of the Danish special forces.

Best of the Web: How do Iranians 'boil a frog'? Slowly and methodically

iran boil frog israel
© The CradleIran's apparent restraint in the face of Israeli aggression should not be mistaken for weakness. Tehran steadily applies pressure on Tel Aviv through its own methods, setting the stage carefully for Israel's unravelling.
A strategy in asymmetrical warfare is expressed by the "boiling frog" theory:
Legend has it that a frog placed in a shallow pot of water heating on a stove will remain happily in the pot of water as the temperature continues to climb, and will not jump out even as the water slowly reaches the boiling point and kills the frog. The change of one degree of temperature at a time is so gradual that the frog doesn't realize he is being boiled until it is too late.
While the story is an apologue - a pretty fable meant to convey a meaningful lesson - it is one frequently invoked by militaries and geopoliticians to describe the "long game" of reaching strategic objectives.

Today, it is Iran and its regional allies who are using a measured approach to increase temperatures in West Asia until the water boils the US and Israeli 'frogs' to death. Strategy, discipline, and rare patience - the antithesis of western short-termism - will bring Iran victory. To quote the Taliban: "Americans have watches, but we have the time."

Timofey Bordachev: Serbia - The West hates this small country almost as much as Russia. Here's why

Serbia and Russia
The EU and US are strangling the Balkan country because they believe it's too similar to Russia

Modern international politics, as practiced by Western countries, sometimes take on a completely absurd character. Recently, the Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) approved the membership of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo in the Council of Europe. Let us remember that we are talking about a territory that is not a state recognized by all members of the international community, including many of PACE's own participants. Additionally, its leaders are rightly suspected of cross-border criminal activity of the worst kind.

But should we be surprised?

It has long been no secret that all the so-called pan-European organizations have effectively become instruments of the United States and the European Union, whose sole purpose is to promote some of their policies towards the rest of the world. It can be security, in which case the OSCE is involved, or human rights, for which the Council of Europe is used. Even environmental policy is in the hands of the West - that, too, is a purely political story.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier described deaths of seven humanitarian workers as "tragic" and "unintentional"

Israel fired missiles on three separate occasions at an aid convoy in Gaza on Monday, killing all involved, because of a suspicion that a Hamas operative was traveling with the group, Haaretz has reported, citing defense sources.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that an IDF strike had killed seven humanitarian workers in the Palestinian enclave, saying its forces had "unintentionally hit innocent people" in a "tragic" incident.

The troops are training to fight across the challenging landscape after 20 years of fighting on land in the Middle East, according to The Washington Post.

A US Navy admiral recently described to the US Armed Services House Committee the growing threat from China

US Navy Adm. John Aquilino. said its military build-up was on a 'scale not seen since WWII' and Beijing was on track to be able to invade Taiwan by 2027.

Comment: With all the these references of WWII, one gets the impression they're trying to tell us something: US admiral says Red Sea is largest battle Navy fought since World War II

Comment: Actually, since 2018, the result of these wargames show the US losing more often than not:
The pre-2018 wargames tended to end favorably for the US, Taiwan, and allies, although at great cost. Between 2018 and February 2022, things grew bleak for the US and Taiwan as it scored only one victory, four losses, and two stalemates.
