Puppet Masters
The so-called Joint Investigation Team (JIT) released an update last Thursday on its ongoing probe into the MH17 air disaster over Eastern Ukraine, in which all 298 people onboard were killed. The JIT's latest release moves the accusation of culpability closer to Russia, with the team claiming that an anti-aircraft Buk missile, which allegedly shot down the plane, was brought into Ukraine by Russia's 53rd Brigade based in Kursk, southwest Russia.
Then on Friday, the day after the high-profile JIT presentation, a news report compiled by US-based McClatchy News and UK-based self-styled online investigative website Bellingcat was published claiming to have identified a senior Russian military intelligence (GRU) officer as being involved in the transport of the missile system.
The Russian GRU officer is named as Oleg Vladimirovich Ivannikov. The report includes a photograph of the named man, who is said to have at least one residential address in Moscow and who used the call sign "Orion". Tellingly, the McClatchy report claims that news of identifying the Russian military officer was not known by the JIT when it made its presentation the day before. But McClatchy reported that the Dutch-led investigators now want to arraign "Orion".
Over the weekend, the Dutch, Australian and British governments upped the ante by formally accusing Russia, and demanding that Moscow pay financial compensation to families of the crash victims. Most of those onboard the doomed MH17 were Dutch, Malaysian and Australian nationals.

Few are more apt to answer than Saadallah Zarei, dean of the Institute of Strategic Studies Andishe Sazan-e Noor in Tehran. Zarei, a soft-spoken, extremely discreet man I met in Mashhad a few days ago, happens to be not only one of Iran's top strategic analysts but also a key brain behind the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Qods Force commander Gen. Qasem Soleimani - the ultimate bête noire outside the Beltway.
So US strategists could do worse than paying attention to Zarei.
While the US "owns 37 fixed military bases and almost 70 movable bases in the Middle East", Zarei said, "We do not observe specific and exact strategies."
He stressed his perplexity with "contradictory behavior related to the Shi'ite population. America's behavior in terms of the Shi'ite population of Bahrain and their rights, the Zaydi Shi'ite population in Yemen and Kashmir and also the Shi'ite population in Lebanon, which is 35% of the total population, is not specified and nobody knows how the Americans think about Shi'ites and how they act."

The career spy, who led the CIA during President Barack Obama's second term (2013-2017) penned an angry op-ed in Thursday's Washington Post, blasting President Trump's character and temperament and lavishing praise on his predecessors.
Trump has diminished the "respect, awe and admiration" Brennan once held for the office of the presidency, the former top spy writes. With stars in his eyes, Brennan recalls meeting George H.W. Bush in 1990, and being charmed by the "curiosity, wisdom, affability and intense interest" of the Texan who led the CIA before becoming Ronald Reagan's vice-president and a one-term chief executive.
By contrast, he writes, Trump is impulsive, dangerous, bent on self-aggrandizement and a routine liar to the American people. To those who follow Brennan's twitter, the tirade is all too familiar.

"Moments ago, IAF fighter jets targeted 10 terror sites in three military compounds belonging to the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip," the IDF said in a statement. "The strikes were conducted in response to the rockets that were fired and to the various terror activities orchestrated by the Hamas terror organization over the weekend."
Here's what happened
People began to notice that Google was labeling Republicans as having an ideology of "Nazism" on the search result for the California Republican Party.
The offensive listing accompanied other, more fitting, ideologies that Republicans would accept, such as "Conservatism," "Market liberalism," "Fiscal conservatism," and "Green conservatism."
'Disturbing trend to slander conservatives.'
"It is disgraceful that the world's largest search engine has labeled millions of California Republicans as Nazis," said Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). "This is just the latest incident in a disturbing trend to slander conservatives. These damaging actions must be held to account," he added. "The bias has to stop."
Comment: Was it a prank or a mistake? Google has a nasty bias of targeting all things conservative. This particular 'vandalism' is attributed to Wikipedia. See also:

"Do not believe any statements on an agreement about the south of Syria unless the US forces withdraw from al-Tanf area," Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said at a press conference, referring to the Southern de-escalation zone covering parts of the Deraa and Quneitra regions.
The areas are currently held by the units of the so-called Free Syrian Army backed by the US. The southern de-escalation zone borders Jordan and is located not far from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. According to some reports, the Syrian government is expected to focus on these territories after it fully liberated the Damascus region from terrorists and various militant groups earlier this year.
Tamir Pardo, who served as head of Israeli spy agency Mossad from 2011 to 2016, told local investigative program Uvda in an interview set to air Thursday that Netanyahu instructed his military command in 2011 to prepare for a strike against longtime foe Iran, which Israel has accused of developing nuclear weapons and supporting militant groups abroad. Pardo said then-Israeli chief of staff Benny Gantz informed the prime minister that the armed forces would be ready within 15 days.
"It's not something that you're permitted to do just for practice," Pardo said of Netanyahu's request, according to the Times of Israel. "If someone does that then it has two [possible] purposes: One purpose is that he really means [to attack] and the other option is that he is sending a signal, that someone out there should know," he added, suggesting it may have been a message to the U.S.
"In matters like these you have to believe people, they are the pilots," Pardo said in reference to Netanyahu and his administration. "So when he tells you, 'Begin a countdown process,' you understand that he isn't playing games with you. These things have tremendous implications."
"The US will continue to pursue a constructive, results-oriented relationship with China, cooperating when possible and competing vigorously where we must...," Mattis stated, speaking at the annual Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.
"China's policy in the South China Sea stands in stark contrast to the openness our strategy promises, it calls into question China's broader goals," the US Defense Secretary added.
Comment: Yet more acts of intimidation from a dying empire.
With tariff exemptions having run out, meaning that many of America's trading partners are to face tariffs on their aluminum and steel, as of today, and many, including Canada, France, Germany, and others, having already condemned the tariffs and threatened countermeasures, as well as WTO disputes, Britain is also a part of that list. Responses range from calling Trump's logic 'based on a lie' to 'stupid'.

Multiple reports of the Pentagon setting up a base on Sinjar Mountain are fake, the commander of military operations in Iraq's Nineveh province told the media on Sunday.
"The US advisers are stationed in Mosul, Qayyarah and in other districts of Nineveh, but they are deployed there on an everyday basis," Major General Najim al-Jubouri explained, while speaking to London-based paper Ashraq al-Awsat.
The statement was made after reports of a column of 15 US armored vehicles arriving at Sinjar began surfacing in Kurdish and Turkish media. On Friday, Erbil-based outlet Kurdistan 24 published photos of what it said was a US army convoy. The images show several pieces of American-made hardware driving along an outpost.

Comment: So Russia provides exhaustive evidence that it was a Ukrainian BUK missile and Ukraine, via their questionable sources comes up with a dodgy story based on some grainy photos trying to pin-it on Russia. Just like with the Skripals, they would have us believe Russia would do something that is clearly against their own interests and without much benefit to their country.
