Oil Well

The geopolitical struggle for energy dominance

oil well
Energy Dominance should be the catchphrase of the day. It's on the minds of every political figure, and the focus of every economy.

This is especially true of those vulnerable to a change in the status quo, namely Saudi Arabia.

While some continue to believe the gyrations of the oil market over the past few months are evidence of our running up against the limit of the petroleum based global economy, I disagree.

The world is awash in decades of easily-extracted oil and gas. The supply of it has been kept off the market due to its centrality in the grand game of geopolitics. But, it has nothing to do with the amount of oil and gas out there.

Peak oil has become a religion among its adherents. Decrying the U.S. shale boom, rightly, for its profligacy has more to do with it being a consequence of disastrous central bank inflation rather than some grand plan of the 'cabal' because we passed peak EROEI some time ago.

Anglo-European Russophobia over investment in Africa

power plant
The Anglo-European monopolization of Africa as a cash cow may soon be at an end. Until then, however, Africans will have to stomach the never-ending distortions of truth, on top of watching their legacy evaporate like a mirage over the sands of the Sahara. I've covered the disinformation on neo-colonialism many times, but today I want to deconstruct, line-by-line, the latest Russophobia propaganda about Putin's role with African nations.

Professor Theo Neethling, of the University of the Free State, typed out a recent story entitled "Russia is expanding its strategic influence in Africa," which rehashes the ages-old Russophobia left over from Soviet times. The strategy, if I may call it this, is the same old diatribe professing Vladimir Putin as the Neo-Stalinist, a man obsessed with restoring the Soviet Union to her former power and glory. Beginning with the intro, the good professor sets up his readers (students). Here's what Neethling says about the new Supreme Soviet followed by my "Translations."

'Prison time for fraudsters': Salvini calls for elimination of Italy's Central Bank

Matteo Salvini

Matteo Salvini
On Friday, in a moment of predictive insight, Bank of America correctly warned that the greatest threat to EPS - i.e., markets - in the next 3 years "is an acceleration of global populism via taxation, regulation & government intervention." Just one day later, this warning to the financial establishment was starkly manifest in that ground zero for Europe's populist revolt, Italy, where the country's coalition government hinted at where the global populist wave is headed next when he slammed the country's central bank leadership and stock market regulator, escalating its attacks on establishment figures ahead of the European parliamentary vote in May.

Matteo Salvini, the outspoken head of the anti-immigrant League party, said the Bank of Italy and Consob, the country's stock market regulator, should be "reduced to zero, more than changing one or two people, reduced to zero", or in other words eliminated, and that "fraudsters" who inflicted losses on Italian savers should "end up in prison for a long time."

Comment: The casino banking collapse in 2008 brought much of the world to its knees and robbed citizens of immense public wealth, and the insidious reverberations are still being felt today. And so when democracy has evidently been usurped by finance, Salvini is right to want to bring back some balance, and it's likely that many citizens throughout Europe, from France's Yellow Vests to 2010's Occupy movements, would themselves welcome such changes:

Maduro kicks off Venezuela's 'most important military drills in history'

venezuela drill
Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro has launched what he described as the 'most important' drills in history, preparing to repel any potential invasion after the US and its allies backed self-proclaimed 'interim president' Guaido.

The drills will last until February 15 and are set to become the largest military exercises the country has held in its 200-year history, President Maduro reiterated, as he arrived at Guaicaipuro Fort in Miranda State.

"We must prepare to defend [Venezuela's] sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence," the elected head of state proclaimed, apparently fearing that Washington's calls for a regime change and its aggressive backing of opposition parliament speaker Juan Guaido might escalate into a direct military invasion.

Comment: While Maduro prepares his country for any eventuality, Guaido has been touring the propaganda networks in an attempt to drum up more support from the ill informed:

Creepy Joe Biden reminded of past warmongering after he calls Maduro a 'tyrant'

A former US Vice President has urged Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro to step aside for a "democratic transition." Twitter, however, doubted Joe Biden's 'humanitarian' motivation, pointing out his warmongering past.

The veteran politician, who had mulled over a third presidential bid for 2020, launched a vicious attack on Maduro, saying that only a "tyrant" would block "delivery of food and medicine to people he claims to lead."

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan is greeted by Gen. Scott Miller, commander of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan upon his arrival at Kabul Monday.
Acting U.S. defense secretary Patrick Shanahan arrived in Afghanistan on Monday and said it was important the Afghan government is involved in talks, from which it has so far been excluded, to end the 17-year-old war.

Shanahan, who will meet U.S. troops and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on his first trip in his new role, said he had so far not received any direction to reduce the nearly 14,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

He also said the United States had important security interests in the region.

'Maduro must go!': US puppet in Venezuela Guaido tells RT he may 'authorize humanitarian intervention'

guaido

Venezuela's self-proclaimed interim leader has told RT that the 'corrupt regime' there is solely to blame for its dire humanitarian situation, and promised that democracy will be embraced, with free elections, once Maduro is gone.

"It is not true that there is an economic blockade. There are sanctions against corrupt officials and thieves," Guaido told RT Spanish in an exclusive interview, dismissing any notion that US sanctions and years of economic and political pressure on Caracas might have contributed to the deteriorating socio-economic situation in Venezuela.

Comment: Guaido is either shockingly ignorant or lying: US blockade cost Venezuela $350 billion since 2013, primary reason for economic crisis

"We have to take care of the humanitarian situation, that is why we are gathering aid, in order to mitigate the disaster created by Maduro "

Comment: Imagine what kind of person would vote for a globalist installed puppet who welcomed US military intervention into their country? Also check out SOTT radio's: NewsReal: US Regime Change Operation in Venezuela - This Time It's Legit?

How to tell if someone is controlled opposition

cia unmasked scooby-doo
Every day in my article comments and social media I get people warning me that this or that journalist, activist or politician is "controlled opposition", meaning someone who pretends to oppose the establishment while covertly serving it. These warnings usually come after I've shared or written about something a dissident figure has said or done, and are usually accompanied by an admonishment not to ever do so again lest I spread their malign influence. If you've been involved in any kind of anti-establishment activism for any length of time, you've probably encountered this yourself.

Paranoia pervades dissident circles of all sorts, and it's not entirely without merit, since establishment infiltration of political movements is the norm, not the exception. This article by Truthout documents multiple instances in which movements like the 1968 Chicago DNC protest and Peter Camejo's 1976 anti-establishment presidential campaign were so heavily infiltrated by opaque government agencies that one out of every six people involved in them were secretly working for the feds. This trend of infiltration is known to have continued into the current day with movements like Occupy and Black Lives Matter, and we'd be ignorant not to assume that this has been at least as rampant in online circles where people organize and disseminate ideas and information.

The case for Russia collusion ... against the Democrats

Now that both the House and Senate investigative committees have cleared Donald Trump of Democrat-inspired allegations of Russian collusion, it is worth revisiting one anecdote that escaped significant attention during the hysteria but continues to have U.S. security implications.

As secretary of State, Hillary Clinton worked with Russian leaders, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and then-President Dmitri Medvedev, to create U.S. technology partnerships with Moscow's version of Silicon Valley, a sprawling high-tech campus known as Skolkovo.

Clinton's handprint was everywhere on the 2009-2010 project, the tip of a diplomatic spear to reboot U.S.-Russian relations after years of hostility prompted by Vladimir Putin's military action against the former Soviet republic and now U.S. ally, Georgia.

A donor to the Clinton Foundation, Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg, led the Russian side of the effort, and several American donors to the Clinton charity got involved. Clinton's State Department facilitated U.S. companies working with the Russian project, and she personally invited Medvedev to visit Silicon Valley.

The collaboration occurred at the exact same time Bill Clinton made his now infamous trip to Russia to pick up a jaw-dropping $500,000 check for a single speech.

The former president's trip secretly raised eyebrows inside his wife's State Department, internal emails show.

China: Only Venezuelans can solve Venezuela's issues

Venezuela should resolve its own matters itself via peaceful talks and China supports the international community's efforts in this regard, the Chinese foreign ministry said.

The ministry said while it supports the recent international efforts by some EU countries and others in Latin America, China still supports an internal resolution to the conflict away from interference and intervention.

"Venezuela's affairs should be resolved by its people within the framework of the constitution and the law through peaceful dialogue and political channels," the ministry said.
