No big deal! Pope Francis says "only" 2 percent of Catholic clergy are pedophiles - That's 1 in 50 Catholic priests

Pope Francis promised "solutions" to the issue of priestly celibacy in an interview on Sunday that raised the possibility the Catholic Church could eventually lift the interdiction on married priests.

Speaking to Italy's La Repubblica daily, Francis also condemned child sex abuse as a "leprosy" in the Church and cited his aides as saying that "the level of paedophilia in the Church is at two percent".

"That two percent includes priests and even bishops and cardinals," he said.

Asked whether priests might one day be allowed to marry, Francis pointed out that celibacy was instituted "900 years after Our Lord's death" and that clerics can marry in some Eastern Churches under Vatican tutelage.

"There definitely is a problem but it is not a major one. This needs time but there are solutions and I will find them," Francis said, without giving further details.

The interview was the third in a series with the 90-year-old founder of the La Repubblica daily, Eugenio Scalfari, a famous journalist and known atheist.

Comment: The Pope is clearly downplaying the role of pedophilia in the Catholic Church. It's highly likely that the level of pedophilia in the Catholic Church is much higher than two percent.

A wounded Palestinian boy, who hospital officials said was injured in an Israeli air strike, is wheeled into a hospital in Gaza City July 12, 2014.
An Israeli airstrike on the home of Gaza's police chief killed 18 people and injured 45 others on Saturday, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. It was the deadliest day since Operation Protective Edge began, with the death toll soaring to over 150.

Police Chief Tayseer Al-Batsh is said to be in critical condition and the majority of those killed are family members, Reuters reported, citing a Hamas member. An Israeli military spokesman is reportedly looking into the claims.

People are still trapped under the rubble, according to Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qidra. Rescue workers are continuing their search operations.

Journalist Harry Fear, reporting from Gaza for RT, tweeted that according to witnesses, the Al-Batsh home strike did not have a warning known as the "roof knock."

Israeli airstrikes on Gaza killed 52 people on Saturday, making it the deadliest day of the offensive. Among the dead were two severely handicapped women in a care facility, AFP cited medics as saying. The total Palestinian death toll now stands at 157.

Early on Sunday, Israeli navy commandos clashed with Hamas fighters as they carried out a raid on a missile launch site in northern Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The Israeli Air Force hit 235 terror-related targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday. Since the start of the offensive, Israel has hit more than 1,000 targets in Gaza. On Saturday, the Israeli military targeted a house belonging to the sister of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, killing two of his nephews and four other people.

The children's rights ombudsman of Ukraine demanded Russia send back Ukrainian orphans who cross the border after evacuation from battle zones in the country's east. The ombudsman accuses Russia of "kidnapping" and violation of children's rights.

Valeria Lutkovskaya sent an open letter to the head of Russia's border guards, Colonel General Vladimir Kulishov, demanding the passage of orphans leaving eastern Ukrainian war zones be prohibited. She also published the letter on her Facebook page.

Lutkovskaya accused Russia of violating the rights of Ukrainian orphan children, who are being admitted to Russia "without proper paperwork."

She claimed that armed members of the resistance movement in the Donetsk region are forcing the directors of two orphanages "at gunpoint" to let children travel to Russia. The directors of both schools allegedly refused to prepare the proper documents.

Lutkovskaya said that according to her sources, plans were afoot to send 54 children from the Maryinka Educational Orphanage and 93 children from Educational Orphanage # 1 in Donetsk to Russia on Sunday morning.

The American sheeple are 'ready' for Hillary in 2016

Hillary campaign
© Truthstream Media
I've been seeing a lot of bumper stickers on the backs of cars lately declaring, "I'm Ready for Hillary!" 2016. That's Hillary Clinton for president.

Astonishingly (and horrifyingly), these drivers seem to somehow be in earnest. How is that possible?

Have these people not even been remotely paying attention for the last 40 years?

The Israeli regime is reportedly using internationally-banned weapons in its bombing campaign in Gaza Strip
The Israeli regime has resorted to the use of internationally-banned weapons in the besieged Gaza Strip, Palestinian doctors and rights activists said.

They said that horrific images of the Palestinian victims of recent Israeli airstrikes on the blockaded coastal enclave prove that the occupation forces are using internationally-banned weapons.

Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qodra said the bodies of most victims had been incinerated, while others had been completely torn apart.

He said the Tel Aviv regime was deploying weapons that destroy the bodies of their victims, noting that a preliminary survey of victims' bodies revealed the horrific nature of the weapons being used during the regime's ongoing onslaught on Gaza.

"Israel used internationally-banned weapons in its two previous wars on Gaza," al-Qodra told Anadolu Agency. "The same weapons are being used now."

"The militants will pay tens and even hundreds of their own lives for the life of each of our soldiers (they kill)," the report quoted Poroshenko as saying.

Different Ukrainian government departments and mass media said earlier that nineteen to fifty military had died near Zelenopolye in the Lugansk region, and ninety-three to a hundred military had been wounded.

In the meantime, the Defense Ministry press service has confirmed the deaths of nineteen and the wounding of ninety-three servicemen, reports Itar-Tass.

Number of casualties in Ukraine increases after consultations with Western politicians - Moscow

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement about a new aggravation of the situation in the east of Ukraine, highlighting the scale of destruction and the rising number of civilian casualties. Russia's diplomatic agency urges Kiev to stop shelling civilians and residential neighborhoods and to think about saving the lives of ordinary people. The Russian Foreign Ministry commented once again on the situation in Ukraine.

The ministry attributed the application of force in the southeast of the country on July 3, to telephone conversations between the President of Ukraine, Petr Poroshenko, and US Vice President Joe Biden and talks between Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin with his British counterpart, William Hague.

According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Western politicians have expressed support for the actions of the Kiev authorities.

"The shameless comment by the British Foreign Secretary puzzles us, it contains unsubstantiated accusations against Russia about providing arms to the militias. We also drew attention to the conclusions of the analytical agency "Stratford", which recognized that the Ukrainian army strikes stationary targets, using intelligence obtained from partners in the West. The question arises: who out of Ukraine's foreign partners are really involved in the conflict in the east of the country?" This was posted in a statement on the official Russian Foreign Ministry website.

Comment: So far Poroshenko has behaved like a puppet for the West, at the expense of his own people. Not much good can come to the people of Ukraine if the interests of Washington are served by bombing civilians and militants alike.
