House Speaker John Boehner: After failures both foreign and domestic, Obama's "wheels are coming off"

Image

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday castigated the Obama presidency on a slew of issues, saying the White House was unprepared for, and often exacerbated, a series of crises at home and abroad.

Opening his weekly Capitol press conference, Boehner offered up a global tour of problematic flash points for the administration and blamed Obama for squandering U.S. gains in Iraq, the scandals at the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Internal Revenue Service, lackluster economic growth and the influx of immigrant children flooding at the U.S.-Mexico border.

"You look at this presidency, and you can't help but get the sense that the wheels are coming off," Boehner said.

The Speaker and other congressional leaders met with Obama at the White House on the deteriorating situation in Iraq, and while he said he learned "a little bit," it appeared to be less than the full strategy he was hoping the president would outline.

Boehner characterized Iraq in the context of what he described as a broader foreign policy failure by the administration.

Report details how U.S. used depleted uranium weapons in heavily populated areas during 2003 Iraq War

US-led forces in Iraq used depleted uranium weapons in civilian-populated areas during the 2003 military campaign, according to a new Dutch NGO study that also exposes a lack of adequate cleanup efforts by the invading troops.

For the first time the location of several sites where the invaders fired some 10,000 depleted uranium rounds were released by the Dutch Defense Ministry, and published in a study by Dutch peace group PAX.

Most of the DU rounds fired by the US-led coalition were in heavily populated areas, the group says. Samawah, Nasiriyah and Basrah are just some urban areas where ammunition was deployed - with around 1,500 anti-armor rounds fired directly at Saddam Hussein's infantry forces.

Comment: Take a look at the effects of DU on the human body
Inside the body, DU's hazards are its chemical toxicity and radioactivity. DU primarily emits alpha radiation, although beta and gamma are also emitted from uranium's decay products. Inside the body, alpha radiation can disrupt cellular process and damage DNA, which can lead to an increased risk of developing different types of cancer, depending on which organ is exposed. DU is also a heavy metal and therefore chemically toxic.
It should not be difficult to see the actions by the American military as completely psychopathic. What other purpose is there for the above actions than to inflict pain and suffering upon a completely innocent group of people? Only a psychopath would willingly commit such acts.

New leak reveals secret arrangement between U.S. and 33 countries allowed NSA to intercept web traffic

Image
NSA slides
The United States has made top-secret deals with more than 30 third-party countries so that the National Security Agency can tap into fiber optic cables carrying internet data in those parts of the world, new leaks reveal.

Documents provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden and published on Wednesday by journalists at The Intercept and Denmark's Dagbladet Information show publically for the first time an intelligence gathering operation waged in 33 countries where secret arrangements exist to broaden American surveillance abilities.

The previously unreported NSA operation - a program codenamed RAMPART-A - "sweeps up a vast amount of communications at lightning speed," according to Ryan Gallagher of The Intercept, by letting the NSA tap into broadband internet cables containing web traffic that might not be otherwise easily obtainable from the originating country.

"It has already been widely reported that the NSA works closely with eavesdropping agencies in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia as part of the so-called Five Eyes surveillance alliance," Gallagher wrote. "But the latest Snowden documents show that a number of other countries, described by the NSA as 'third-party partners,' are playing an increasingly important role - by secretly allowing the NSA to install surveillance equipment on their fiber-optic cables."

Former New York City DA investigated for using public funds for re-election

Federal prosecutors have joined a state investigation into possible fraud by Charles J. Hynes, the former Brooklyn district attorney, signaling that he could now be facing federal charges with longer prison terms.

Assistant United States attorneys from New York's Eastern District are coordinating with an investigation by the state attorney general, Eric T. Schneiderman, who began his inquiry after a city report suggested Mr. Hynes had used more than $200,000 in public funds for a consultant to his re-election campaign. The report, by the Department of Investigation, said the misuse of funds could amount to larceny.

But the involvement of federal prosecutors exposes Mr. Hynes to an increased range of potential charges, including federal program fraud, a felony in which someone at an agency commits fraud, embezzlement or bribery, and the agency receives over $10,000 of federal money in a year. In 2013, Mr. Hynes's last year as district attorney, the office estimated it would receive $1.3 million in federal funds. The felony carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Comment: What a slime bucket! In April 2012, Charles Hynes refused to disclose information about sexual predators in the Jewish Orthodox Community. More here:

Canadian PM Harper announces more sanctions over Ukraine crisis

harper obama
The Canadian PM, Stephen Harper, has shown once again that he is a brainless automaton and deeply entrenched in the US's pocket by fully parroting its irrational and hypocritical position on Ukraine.
Canada announced economic sanctions and travel bans on 11 Russians and Ukrainians, as well as a Crimean oil company, saying they facilitated the violation of Ukrainian sovereignty.

The move came as a unilateral ceasefire in the ex-Soviet state hung in the balance with clashes engulfing the separatist east and Russian President Vladimir Putin putting troops on "full combat alert."

"Russia's illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine and provocative military activity remains a serious concern to the international community," Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a statement.

"The measures we are announcing today against additional Russian and Ukrainian individuals and an entity that have facilitated the violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial sovereignty will continue to increase economic pressure on those responsible for the crisis in Ukraine."

Comment: Another shameful and pitiful display by Canada's leadership. Could Canada conceivably have a more sniveling, wannabe, sycophantic prime minister? It's doubtful. Fact check: 1) Russia's annexation of Crimea was not illegal. 2) "Those responsible" for the crisis in Ukraine are the Americans. If anything, Canada should be sanctioning Kiev and Washington, but don't expect Harper the Harpy to act with any sense of reason or justice in this age of the crumbling American Empire.

Reality dawning! Polish foreign minister Sikorski: "Our alliance with America isn't worth anything, in fact it's harmful"

Image

A Polish magazine said Sunday, June 22, 2014, it has obtained recordings of a private conversation in which Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski says the country's strong alliance with the U.S. "isn't worth anything" and is "even harmful because it creates a false sense of security."
A Polish magazine said Sunday it has obtained recordings of a private conversation in which the foreign minister says Poland's strong alliance with the U.S. was worthless and "even harmful because it creates a false sense of security."

In a short transcript of the conversation, a person identified as Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski also allegedly criticized Poles as naive in a conversation with a former finance minister - in the latest recorded revelation from magazine Wprost to rattle Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government.

The Foreign Ministry declined comment, but did not deny that Sikorski made the remarks. Government spokeswoman Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska said officials would only comment after the recording is published in full.

Wprost has only provided a transcript of excerpts of the conversation, which it said was recorded in the spring. The magazine has said the sound files will be published on Monday or Tuesday.

Flashback Two freed after 20 years in prison - New York City conviction challenges keep pouring in

Image
© Ashley Gilbertson for The New York Times Antonio Yarbough’s conviction was vacated Thursday, after he spent more than two decades in prison accused of killing his mother, sister and another girl.
Their wrists uncuffed, their ankles unchained, Antonio Yarbough and Sharrif Wilson walked out of a Brooklyn courtroom Thursday afternoon, free after more than two decades in prison for three murders they did not commit.

Convicted of stabbing and garroting Mr. Yarbough's mother, his 12-year-old sister and another 12-year-old girl to death in 1992, when Mr. Yarbough was 18 and Mr. Wilson was 15, both men had their convictions vacated on Thursday after prosecutors said newly discovered evidence created "substantial reasonable doubt of the defendants' guilt," as assistant district attorney Mark Hale told the judge.

Last year, testing revealed that DNA under Mr. Yarbough's mother's fingernails matched that found on another murder victim in 1999 - when the men had already been in prison for years.

Free of the courtroom, Mr. Yarbough knelt to pray, his hands clasped over a black office chair. "It feels good," he said, "to be vindicated."

Comment: Once again, the NYT is missing the point. Innocent people are convicted due the the rapacious, profitable nature of the psychopathic system. Criminal prosecutors are paid bonuses for hitting their conviction targets while corrupt police officers frame innocent people. With police violence against your average citizen on the rise, they have become far more dangerous than the criminals.

Western puppet Poroshenko's "peace plan" includes continued shelling in Eastern Ukraine

Image

After weeks of military campaign against south-eastern regions rejecting Kiev government, which resulted in hundreds of civilian deaths, the Ukrainian President has announced a 14-point peace plan to deescalate tensions and asked Russia for support.

In a meeting with Kiev-installed leaders of protest-struck Donetsk and Lugansk regions, the newly elected Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko outlined his vision for stabilizing the eastern part of the country amid an extensive "counter-terrorism operation."

Comment: The same doublespeak that the PTB have employed for years elsewhere is being used in Ukraine. Anyone who fights against an American-installed puppet government will be labelled a terrorist.

The new leader highlighted the need to amend the constitution, a presidential press release reads, to decentralize the powers of the state. "The President voluntarily renounces the ability to appoint governors and heads of regional state administrations," and has agreed to hold early local elections, the presidential press service said.

British Labor MP: German investigator should be given access to military base that helped spy on Angela Merkel

The UK needs to grant Germany access to RAF Croughton military base which reportedly hosts a joint CIA/NSA unit, a Labor MP told British PM David Cameron, urging him to help the German federal investigation of the phone tapping of Angela Merkel.

Labour Party MP Tom Watson has sent Cameron a letter, urging the Prime Minister to facilitate the German investigation into the foreign surveillance of Merkel's phone so that Anglo-German relations are not damaged, The Guardian reports.

In the letter, Watson said that the German federal prosecutor should be given access to Royal Air Force base Croughton in Northamptonshire, which currently serves as a United States Air Force communications station. It has been prompted by allegations published by The Independent that the base hosts a hub for US listening stations in diplomatic missions sending intelligence to Washington.

FDA uses mafia tactics for the benefit of Big Pharma

I post this piece now and then to show how personal things can get inside a terminally corrupt government agency.

It's not all about remote decisions made from a great height.

These decisions can come about through the rank intimidation the Mafia exercises with a member who wants to leave the mob and go straight.

As in: "We know where your wife and kids are."

This article is based on a Truthout interview of a man who did drug reviews for the FDA. He examined applications to approve new medical drugs for public consumption.
