Back during the early days of the Democratic primaries I told you that the real story behind the scenes was a three-sided civil war for control of the DNC.

Not quite an equilateral triangle, the two major factions were the Clintons and the Obamas with the Soros-backed squad pushing them both farther and farther left, through the fake Progressivism of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

And with the ascension of Joe Biden as the candidate, triumphing over the inept Hillary-backed challenge from Mini Mike Bloomberg, it was clear that the Obamas won the internal battle.

Hillary eventually bent the knee and endorsed Biden along with everyone else.

After her failure to beat Trump in 2016 it became clear that Obama was the choice by The Davos Crowd to deliver the U.S. into their hands weak, divided, literally on fire and close to irretrievably insane.

Comment: The relentless attempts at getting Trump impeached, out-voted, deposed, couped, etc. - have literally forced him to push against all of Washington's resistance to get some of the biggest names in American politics in prison. And so the plot thickens. Yet again.

But one question that has us holding our breath (a little bit) is: What will Barr do next?

Let's face it, US politics is just a showy soap opera laced with enough nepotism and corruption to make a banana republic blush

There was an American show that ran on pretty much every TV set in the whole wide world in the 1980s called 'Dynasty' - pronounced 'die-nasty' by Americans, who like to mangle the English language.

The main images that immediately spring to mind are all teeth and hair. Perfect teeth, perfect hair. Male or female. Oh, and the theme tune. And money.

Money, money, money. I can't remember a single plot line though, not one.

British archaeology falls prey to Turkey's nationalist drive as authorities seize seed collections

Turkish authorities have seized possession of the country's oldest and richest archaeobotanical and modern seed collections from the British Institute at Ankara, one of the most highly regarded foreign research institutes in Turkey, particularly in the field of archaeology. The move has sounded alarm bells among the foreign research community and is seen as part of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's wider xenophobia-tinged campaign to inject Islamic nationalism into all aspects of Turkish life.

In a confidential letter dated Sept. 17 that was addressed to the institute's members, Chairman Stephen Mitchell described how on Sept. 3 the Ministry of Culture and Tourism had served notice that the collections belonged to the Turkish state and "would be removed the same day."

"Beginning that afternoon and continuing the following day," Mitchell wrote, "staff from the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, the General Directorate for Museums and Heritage from the Ministry of Culture and the Turkish Presidency took away 108 boxes of archaeobotanical specimens and 4 cupboards comprising the modern seed reference collections" to depots in a pair of government-run museums in Ankara. The institute's request for extra time "to minimize the risk of damage or loss to the material was refused."

Afghan militant group says CBS misrepresented its words

The Taliban has denied endorsing Donald Trump after reports emerged claiming the Afghan militant group had said it hoped the US president would be re-elected.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban, was reported to have supported Mr Trump's bid to remain in the White House and expressed concern over his health.

CBS News quoted Zabihullah Mujahid to have said during a phone interview: "We hope he will win the election and wind up US military presence in Afghanistan."

This subject is going to take more than one story to explore in a meaningful way. So let's set things up by introducing the players, and the nature of the game that might be underway.

Yesterday there was reporting that the Durham investigation has taken an interest in some activities — not yet completely understood — of a former Capitol Hill political operative named Daniel Jones.

This is a curious development that COULD portend an interesting turn in the path Durham is pursuing.

The revelations over the past week about the existence of a "plan" hatched in July 2016 within the Clinton Campaign to "vilify" the Trump Campaign by linking Trump to Russian election interference efforts exposed the existence of something that has long been suspected or assumed — that the entire Trump-Russia hoax narrative was an "inside-outside" operation run against Candidate Donald Trump initially, and against President Donald Trump after he won the election.

Comment: New clues, new vectors, new suspects? Either those in charge of the multiple investigations are doing an exemplary job on details and connections or they are waiting it out for a change of leadership. We shall soon see where the chips lie, who skates, who falls. Trump and the American people deserve forthright answers and legal closure.

Biden says 'no', voters don't deserve to know if he will pack the court

Joe Biden has blatantly admitted that he does not believe voters "deserve to know" if he plans to pack the court.

Biden: "You've been asked by the viewers who are probably Republican who don't want me to continue to talk about what they're doing to the court right now," asked a local reporter, shown in new video from an KTNV Las Vegas.

Reporter: "Well sir, don't the voters deserve to know —

Biden: "No, they don't — I'm not gonna play his game," Biden responded before insisting that he has "already said something on court packing."

Comment: Okey Dokey Joe...but then he said: "Republicans are 'packing the court now"! [No such thing!]

Joe Biden commented on criticism directed at him in response to his previous statement that he would not talk about the potential Democrat strategy to add Supreme Court seats until after the election.

Biden was on his way to board a plane to his next stop on the campaign trail, and stopped briefly to say this to reporters:
"Look, there's always ... court packing going on right now. It's going on with the Republicans packing the court now; it's not constitutional what they're doing. We should be focused on what's happening right now... <cough> and the fact is that the only packing going on is this court is being packed now by the Republicans are packing it after the vote has already begun. I'm gonna stay focused on it, so we don't take our eyes off the ball here."

The Republicans have no plans to add to the Supreme Court at this time.
They plan to fill a currently vacant Supreme Court seat left by the death of one of its justices.

At no point in the short interview did Biden comment on what the Democratic party may or may not do after election time regarding the issue.

'Not clinging to power': Zelensky says he'll walk away from presidency if he fails to stop war in Donbass

Despite over a year of failing to stop hostilities, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that he will be able to end the war in Donbass, and says someone else should lead the country if he can't.

Speaking to the BBC, Zelensky also claimed that he will be able to make a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin and return Crimea to the control of Kiev.

"I believe in this. Otherwise, I would not have run for Ukrainian President. This is very difficult, and we need the help of the whole world, that's true. But I'm not losing faith."

The Ukrainian president also sought to assure the BBC interviewer, Stephen Sackur, that he would not hang on to power, and is willing to walk away in case of failure.

"I always said - I'm not clinging to the ratings, nor am I clinging to power. "So, if I can't stop the war, then there needs to be a different person who will be able to end this tragic story."

McCabe: I will not testify out of fear for my health...even remotely

Former FBI Deputy Director (and CNN contributor) Andrew McCabe has long said that he was willing to answer questions under oath about his controversial actions in the Russian investigation. He was scheduled to do so on Tuesday, but he now has refused — citing the infection of three senators with Covid-19. However, McCabe also refuses to testify remotely as did both former FBI Director James Comey and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates. He simply says that "fairness" dictates that he not testify at all. The basis for his refusal to appear remotely is utterly and almost comically absurd.

It is hard to see the letter as anything other than a mocking refusal not to go under oath. McCabe knows that the Democrats may retake the Senate and the White House. At that point, Democratic senators are expected to shutdown all continuing investigations related to McCabe and misconduct in the Russian investigation. The problem is that recent disclosures have magnified concerns of serious conduct in the Russian investigation and, in the last few months, Comey, Yates, and former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said that they would not have signed off on the Page application if they knew then what they know today. Rosenstein called for further investigation into FBI misconduct, including matters that would relate to McCabe. Rosenstein expressly slammed McCabe in his testimony.

Comment: It seems obvious McCabe is waiting it out, hoping for a 'change of fortune' come election time to absolve him of his crimes. Meanwhile, he has his bully pulpit on CNN providing a whole new meaning to 'covering the news'.

Judge Amy Coney Barrett will praise her mentor, the late Justice Antonin Scalia, and emphasize her belief that it is not the job of the Supreme Court to create policy in the text of her opening statement obtained by Fox News. Barrett's opening statement reads:

"Courts have a vital responsibility to enforce the rule of law, which is critical to a free society. But courts are not designed to solve every problem or right every wrong in our public life. The policy decisions and value judgments of government must be made by the political branches elected by and accountable to the People."

Barrett will also talk about how philosophies about not only the law but family and purpose were shaped by Scalia:

"Justice Scalia taught me more than just law. He was devoted to his family, resolute in his beliefs, and fearless of criticism. And as I embarked on my own legal career, I resolved to maintain that same perspective. There is a tendency in our profession to treat the practice of law as all-consuming, while losing sight of everything else. But that makes for a shallow and unfulfilling life."

Barrett's confirmation process will begin on Monday, when she will deliver her opening statement.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham predicted on Sunday that Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett will be confirmed no later than Oct. 27, which is the Tuesday before the presidential election.
