China and North Korea 'boost military ties, provide Asia-Pacific security' amid US-fed tensions

China and North Korea will boost military cooperation and work together to assure security in the Asia Pacific, a high-ranking Chinese commander has said. Both Beijing and Pyongyang view US activities in the region as a threat.

Days after North Korea made headlines with fresh missile tests, a delegation from Pyongyang has met with Chinese officials in Beijing. It was headed by a high-ranking military official, Kim Su-gil, director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army.

Quoted by the media after the meeting, the Chinese general who spoke to Kim signaled that Chinese-North Korean military ties only look to strengthen further.

"The Chinese People's Liberation Army is ready to work along North Korea to implement the important consensus, which was achieved by the leaders of our nations," Gen. Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, said, adopting an official tone.

He also assured his audience that Beijing is "ready to contribute to peace and stability in the region together" with Pyongyang. Kim responded by saying that North Korea is eager to expand military ties and exchange experiences with their large neighbor.

Afghanistan's Taliban says the killing of the brother of their leader in an August 16 bomb attack in Pakistan will not derail peace talks with the United States.

Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada was not in the mosque when the bomb went off but his younger brother, Hafiz Ahmadullah, was among those killed, according to Afghan Islamic Press and Reuters.

"If someone thinks martyring our leaders would stop us from our goal, they're living in a fool's paradise," a senior Taliban figure told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location on August 17. "We are close to our goals," the Taliban leader said, referring to the talks with the United States.

Pakistani police say four people were killed and more than 20 injured in the explosion at the mosque about 25 kilometers outside of Quetta, the capital of Pakistan's restive Balochistan Province. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb attack.

Tehran is in talks with Moscow over plans to establish a ferry service across the Caspian Sea that would link Iran with Russia's Dagestan.

The Iranian ambassador to Russia, Mehdi Sanai, had earlier arrived in Derbent to discuss the development of relations between Iran and Russia's Republic of Dagestan. During the visit, the two sides discussed the question of increasing cargo traffic through Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port, as well as the launch of direct passenger and cargo flights between Makhachkala and Tehran.

Among the issues discussed was a plan to set up a direct ferry service linking the two states, with the head of Dagestan's republic, Vladimir Vasiliev, highly optimistic about the prospect.

"Derbent attracts Iran like a magnet and [the ferry service] will work. [Tehran] is ready to establish sea links with us, and we are ready to cooperate - and everything will work," Vasilyev told journalists at a press briefing on Sunday.

A few years ago, very few people understood the concept behind color revolutions.

Had Russia and China's leadership not decided to unite in solidarity in 2012 when they began vetoing the overthrow of Bashar al Assad in Syria - followed by their alliance around the Belt and Road Initiative - then it is doubtful the color revolution concept would be as well-known as it has become today.

At that time, Russia and China realized that they had no choice but to go on the counter-offensive, since the regime change operations and colour revolutions orchestrated by such organizations as the CIA-affiliated National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and Soros Open Society Foundations were ultimately designed to target them. China and Russia have the potential collective power to challenge the power of the Anglo-American elites based largely in the City of London and Wall Street. Relatively small-scale protest movements blew up into rose, orange, green and yellow revolution efforts in Georgia, Ukraine, Iran and Hong Kong because those places were recognized as weak points along the periphery of what threatened to become a great power alliance of sovereign Eurasian states.

Shoigu says Russia won't deploy new missiles if US does the same

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on August 18 that Moscow would not deploy new missiles so long as U.S. officials did the same in Europe and Asia.

He said his country was ready for a dialogue with the United States on intermediate- and short-range missiles and reiterated recent assertions by Moscow that it has no plans for new deployments.

"We still stick to that," Shoigu told Rossiya-24 TV, according to Interfax. "Unless there are such systems in Europe [deployed by Washington], we won't do anything there."

TASS news agency quoted Shoigu as saying in the same appearance: "We are keeping the door open, we still believe that as long as the U.S. doesn't deploy such systems to Europe, we won't do the same, and as long as there are no U.S. missiles in Asia, there won't be our missiles in the region."

Gibraltar refused a US request to seize the Iranian tanker Grace 1 on Sunday, saying it was unable to comply because it was bound by European Union law.

A federal court in Washington on Friday issued a warrant for the seizure of the tanker, the oil it carries and nearly $1 million. British Royal Marines had detained the vessel in Gibraltar in July on suspicion that it was carrying oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions.

"The Central Authority's inability to seek the Orders requested is a result of the operation of European Union law and the differences in the sanctions regimes applicable to Iran in the EU and the US," a Gibraltar government statement said.

"The EU sanctions regime against Iran - which is applicable in Gibraltar - is much narrower than that applicable in the US."

The tanker raised an Iranian flag and and had a new name painted on its side, Reuters images of the stationary vessel filmed off Gibraltar showed on Sunday.

The Iranian tanker caught in a stand-off between Tehran and the West is expected to leave Gibraltar on Sunday night, Iran's ambassador to Britain tweeted on Sunday.

"The vessel is expected to leave tonight," envoy Hamid Baeidinejad said on Twitter, adding that two engineering teams had been flown to Gibraltar.

The British magazine has published an article about pro-opposition rallies in Moscow that kicked off six weeks ago, citing a young woman who said at a forum in "southern Russia this weekend" that the only solution to corruption and inequality is revolution. However, the youth event that The Economist wrote about took place three years ago.

In an article titled "Protests in Moscow show that Putin's critics are getting stronger", The Economist quoted a young Russian woman who said at "a state-organised forum in southern Russia" the past weekend, "We have only one solution - revolution. We are like an explosive cocktail. We are ready to go off".

The article was published on 15 August as thousands of people were preparing to take to the streets in Moscow for a sixth consecutive week to join an authorised rally staged by opposition political figures who failed to register as candidates for the upcoming local parliamentary elections.

The newspaper wrote that participants of the forum, including members of the youth wing of the governing United Russia party, voiced grievances over inequality and corruption.

The protests in the capital, The Economist assumed, would set off a chain reaction throughout the country, which poses a real "danger" to President Vladimir Putin.


Comment: That's what such rags and spies are banking on. And if they can influence things in that direction by posting fake news, they'll do that too.

The top-secret Nuclear Command and Control Facility at Offutt Air Force Base will be named after the late Gen. Curtis LeMay and is one of the most secure buildings in the world, hardened against electromagnetic pulse attacks and wired with high-technology fiber optic communications lines.

The 900,000 square-foot facility is in the final stages of construction and will replace an aging 1950s-era command center 250 yards down the road.
