Iran claims to have discovered an unexpectedly high uranium reserve

The Head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi walks through a garden at the Beau Rivage Palace Hotel during an extended round of talks in Lausanne, April 2, 2015.
Iran has discovered an unexpectedly high reserve of uranium and will soon begin extracting the radioactive element at a new mine, the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization said on Saturday.

The comments cast doubt on previous assessments from some Western analysts who said the country had a low supply and sooner or later would need to import uranium, the raw material needed for its nuclear program.

Any indication Iran could become more self-sufficient will be closely watched by world powers, which reached a landmark deal with Tehran in July over its program. They had feared the nuclear activities were aimed at acquiring the capability to produce atomic weapons - something denied by Tehran.

Comment: Well at least Iran was forthcoming on the find and not try to hide it.

House asks for Pentagon briefing regarding intelligence allegations in war on ISIS

The investigative committee of the US House of Representatives has summoned Pentagon officials for a briefing about allegations of manipulated intelligence about the war against the Islamic State (Isis).

Jason Chaffetz, the chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Ron DeSantis, who chairs its national-security subcommittee, asked the defense secretary, Ashton Carter, and inspector general, Jon Rymer, on Friday for information about an ongoing investigation into charges from dozens of US Central Command and Defense Intelligence Agency analysts that their superiors suppressed negative assessments of the year-old war against Isis.

In a sign of escalating congressional interest in an unfolding controversy, the GOP lawmakers requested briefings no later than 18 September.

"We are deeply concerned about these allegations and want to ensure that intelligence provided to key decision makers properly reflect the expert analysis provided by our Intelligence Community (IC) professionals," wrote Chaffetz and DeSantis, a retired navy officer and Iraq veteran, in letters obtained by the Guardian.

The two asked Carter to provide "additional information" including "the nature of the allegations, and the Department's procedures for how analyses and collection drive the final product reviewed by senior civilian and military leadership".

Coast Guard worried about transport of hazmats to US
The U.S. Coast Guard announced in a bulletin earlier this week that it as well as officials from the Department of Homeland Security agencies are monitoring vessels and cargo headed to the country that were in the Tianjin, China port during either or both of the explosions that left hundreds dead or injured.

"Vessels impacted by the Tianjin explosions are expected to call on U.S. ports over the next several weeks," the Coast Guard said in its bulletin to maritime industry officials. "There have been no reports of vessels with confirmed hazardous debris or residues onboard, however U.S. companies are looking for reassurances regarding the health and safety of those who handle shipping containers across the supply chain."
Nearly 150 people were killed in the blasts that happened at the port on Aug. 12 and Aug. 15, with another 27 listed as missing, according to the Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua.
While the blast has made international headlines, Coast Guard officials are concerned about the lack of information known about what contaminants to which ships, cargo and crew members may have been exposed. They urged vessel owners and operators to inspect for ash or other debris from the blasts that landed on the ship or cargo containers.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has accused Ukraine forces of kidnapping two Russians from the border town of Chertkovo. The Ukrainian side claims that the two were arrested after illegally crossing the border. One of the men is reportedly a soldier.

According to Moscow, Russian contract soldier Viktor Barsukov was kidnapped by Ukrainian intelligence services in the border town of Chertkovo at about 6 am and transported to Ukrainian territory. This disclosure was made to the TASS and Interfax news agencies by the Russian Defense Ministry's press office.

"Along with the Russian soldier, his brother Nikolay Barsukov, a civilian, was also taken to Ukrainian territory," the statement said.

The Ministry is now demanding that Ukraine immediately set the two free. "We strongly recommend abstaining from such provocations in the future. Such provocations are clearly defined by every criminal law as kidnapping," the ministry said.

The Trump Effect: Falling for successful psychopaths

Trump
© www.towardfreedom.com
Why are millions fascinated, often even seduced, by people whose behavior actually points to pathology? Perhaps we are wired to be attracted by narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths, people so focused on their own central role in whatever takes place that the rest of us are sucked into their reality.

Think about entering a portal and emerging into the head of Donald Trump. What could that level of self-absorption be like? Begin by imagining a complete lack of empathy, one of the tell-tale signs of the psychopath.

Is Trump a psychopath? Well, he does score well on a 20 item checklist. And are there more around us than we think? Not just serial killers and the violent type, but successful, powerful psychopaths who will do anything to win and affect our lives in profound ways.

The checklist, a way to help identify potential psychopaths among us, was developed by Bob Hare, a prison psychologist who conducted some remarkable experiments and eventually codified his findings. Jon Ronson provides an excellent history and analysis in his book, The Psychopath Test.

Geopolitical, economic fallout to follow as migrant crises worsen

Image

The current wave of migrants flooding into Europe is the worst since World War II. The Trends Research Institute forecasts that migrant crisis will dramatically escalate. Both the cause and effects are trend lines leading to a humanitarian calamity, social unrest and geopolitical conflict that will destabilize governments worldwide.

For some two years, shiploads of desperate refugees attempting to reach Europe have been drowning while Brussels bickered over how to handle the human tide washing up on their shores. In virtually all media coverage of the migrant crisis - which had begun its ascent in 2012 and has now dramatically escalated - there are virtually no specifics explaining why conditions have deteriorated so badly that hopeless millions risk their lives to flee their homeland.

Indeed, as evidenced by Monday's front page New York Times headline (and similarly repeated in Western media), the oft-cited question is, "As Europe Grasps for Answers, More Migrants Flood Its Borders.

The answers sought are how do deal with the refugee tide. The question barely broached is "who is responsible for creating the catastrophe?"

What has finally put the migrant crisis into mainstream focus was the heart-wrenching photo of a dead Syrian baby boy lying face down on a beach in Turkey. Prior to the 2011 Arab Spring that swept much of the Middle East, Syria was a relatively peaceful nation. However, after the United States, its Western European allies and the Arab League demanded regime change and supported rebel factions to overthrow the government, a bloody civil war ensued that has destroyed the once prosperous nation, leaving some 300,000 dead, 11 million displaced and 4 million migrants seeking safe haven. But Syria is just one of the many war-torn nations from which countless millions are fleeing.

American actors Brad Pitt, Sylvester Stallone 'join' election campaigns in Russian regions

American actor, director and artist Sylvester Stallone speaks at the opening of his art exhibition at the Engineer Castle of the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
The deputy head of Russia's main elections body claims officials are aware of several cases in which images of Hollywood actors and other celebrities were used in promotional materials, but that no complaints had been made by the stars in question.

"We've been watching Brad Pitt, Sylvester Stallone, athlete [Usain] Bolt and football player Ronaldo promote one of candidates in the Kaliningrad Region. No complaints have been filed," Konstantin Ivlev told reporters on Wednesday.

Ivlev added that in the Kostroma Region politicians were using images of former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and Russian socialite-turned opposition journalist Ksenia Sobchak, but no complaints had been made in that case either.

Earlier this month Russian business daily Kommersant reported that supporters of the incumbent acting governor of Kaliningrad Region, Nikolay Tsukanov, posted several videos on their YouTube channel with a fake Russian soundtrack over clips featuring foreign celebrities. Among these videos Quentin Tarantino 'thanked' the regional leader for renovating municipal apartments and Sylvester Stallone 'announced' that he was so impressed with the thriving economy in Kaliningrad that he was going to make it the main venue of the next film in the 'Expendables' franchise.

Regional elections officials said in press comments that they had the videos had not been registered as official propaganda and therefore they had received no consent from the people whose images were used in them.
