UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon says hundreds more British troops could be sent to Iraq

Despite the death of a US Navy SEAL on Tuesday while training Iraqi troops, UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon says hundreds more British troops could be sent to the war-torn country to advise local forces.

Fallon made the comments ahead of a meeting of ministers in Stuttgart on Wednesday, where he will discuss a further "package" of troops with his US counterpart Ash Carter. The troops are rumored to include engineers and advisers.

The news comes after a US Navy SEAL - a member of the force equivalent to the UK's Special Boat Service - was killed by enemy fire in Kurdish territory.

Fallon said Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) is on the run, with Iraqi forces "retaking territory, hitting its finances and striking its leadership."

"Now is the time to build on recent success and we are looking hard at what more we can offer as Iraqi combat operations intensify," he said.


Comment: So if Iraq is successfully "retaking territory" from Daesh, why do they need US and British troops on the ground? Might it be to keep an eye on Iraq to thwart it from getting closer to Iran or Russia?

Washington is continuing to pressure European leaders to sign the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) by the end of the year. However, the EU has resisted due to fears that some sectors of its economy would not be able to compete with the US economy.

The US has mounted pressure on Brussels during recent talks on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung reported.

According to leaked confidential documents, the EU would have to significantly decrease social, legal and environmental standards to open European markets for US-made products.

Washington is almost blackmailing the bloc to make concessions, the article read. For instance, the US has threatened to reduce imports of European cars if Brussels rejects to buy more US-made agricultural products.

Turkish PM says Turkey will invade Syria 'if necessary'

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Wednesday that Ankara was in a position to send ground troops to Syria if necessary.

He pointed out that such a move by Turkey would be legal as the UN had made a number of decisions on the fight against Daesh in terms of self-defense and countering terrorism.


Comment: In other words Davutoglu believes that NATO's consistent violation of international law makes it 'legal' to invade Syria.


"If necessary, we will send troops to Syria. We will take all steps to protect our own country internally and externally, " Davutoglu told the broadcaster Al Jazeera Turk.

Russia forms 3 new divisions 10,000 troops each to counter NATO buildup

Russia is to deploy two new divisions in the west and one in the south to counterbalance NATO's increased military presence near Russian borders, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced. "The Defense Ministry is taking a number of measures to respond to the NATO military buildup at the Russian border," Shoigu said on Wednesday. "Before the year's end two new divisions will be formed in the Western Military District and one in the Southern Military District."

Earlier there were reports in the Russian media that three new divisions with 10,000 troops each may be deployed in Rostov-on-Don, the Smolensk Region and the Voronezh Region. NATO has been sending additional forces to Poland, the Baltic States and elsewhere near Russian borders since 2014. It claimed that the deployments were necessary to build confidence of Eastern European members in the face of "Russian aggression."

Comment: NATO member countries are often forced by the US - recently using the terrorism card - to keep them in line and the people in fear. The US directs and owns NATO: It is a corporate military industrial complex and a central bank delivery system, and it needs enemies and people to fear same.

A cyber attack by hackers on the computer of the Israeli Prime Minister's chief of staff revealed secret information on Tel Aviv's support for the ISIL in Iraq and the regime's arms aids to the terrorists in Syria as well as the large-scale support of Saudi Arabia and Qatar in this respect.

The hackers managed to penetrate into the personal computer of Israeli Prime Minister's Chief of Staff Manzar al-Safadi also known as Mandi al-Safadi, and a senior Israeli security official who works on the Syria dossier and gained valuable intelligence on Israel's supports for terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq.

The hackers starting infiltrating the computer and tapping his mobile conversations for several months, which resulted in the disclosure of the names of many Lebanese personalities and Syrian opposition figures who cooperated with Israel in the Syrian crisis.

The documents released by the hackers also showed that Qatar and Saudi Arabia are also behind the financial supports for the Syrian terrorists and that a person named Mohammad al-Khatif was a link between the Al-Nusra Front terrorist group and Qatar.

Last week I shared the update of my Syrian friend, then in Aleppo, who began with the words, "Aleppo is burning". Anti-Syria propagandists have attempted to hijack those words for their White Helmet, blame-Assad propaganda [Update: Vanessa Beeley at 21st Century Wire: "#AleppoIsBurning Campaign Created by US and NATO to Facilitate a "No Bomb Zone""].

Maternity Hospital Among Those Bombed By Terrorists:

On May 3, SANA news reported: "...terrorists fired 65 rocket shells on the neighborhoods of al-Neel Street, al-Siryian, al-Khalidyia, al-Mocambo, al-Sabeel and the surroundings of al-Rahman mosque leaving 11 civilians killed and 37 injured. A source at Aleppo Health Directorate said that most of the wounded civilians are children and women and their injuries are severe as the number of the killed civilians might increase.

Later, SANA's correspondent in Aleppo reported that three women were killed, 17 other women and children were wounded and extensive material damage was caused by terrorist organizations' attack with a rocket shell on al-Dhabeet Hospital in al-Mouhafaza neighborhood."

SANA listed the attacked districts as: al-Midan, al-Furqan, Nile Street, al-Mukambo, al-Khalidiye, Jami'et al-Zahra'a, al-Ameriye, al-Ramousa, al-Masharqa, al-Muhafaza, al-Meridian, al-Serian, al-Sabeel, and al-Jamiliye in Aleppo city.

The US government is extending its state of emergency imposed against the actions of the government of Syria, President Barack Obama wrote in a letter to the heads of both chambers of Congress, the White House announced on Tuesday.
"The Syrian regime's actions and policies, including pursuing chemical and biological weapons [and] supporting terrorist organizations... continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security... of the United States," Obama stated.
Obama wrote that he had therefore determined that it was necessary to continue the national emergency declared with respect to this threat as well as to maintain in force the sanctions to address the issue.
"The regime's brutal war on the Syrian people, who have been calling for freedom and a representative government, not only endangers the Syrian people themselves, but could yield greater instability throughout the region," Obama claimed in the letter.
Obama added that the US government condemned the Syrian government, which he referred to as "the Assad regime," and demanded that it end military operations against rebel forces then permit a political transition to a different regime.

Comment: Would be of utmost interest to read the letter President Assad writes to his parliament regarding the USA and the "Obama regime." Assad could say the exact same things about the US, only this time, they would be true.

Last week the House Armed Services Committee approved an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act requiring women to register with Selective Service. This means that if Congress ever brings back the draft, women will be forcibly sent to war.

Comment: If the US ended mandatory registration the only people left to fight the wars would be people who are inherent warmongers - which would probably be a good thing for the entire planet, let them kill each other ... and adios!

More boots on the ground: US redeploys military forces in Yemen

US has redeployed its special forces in Yemen to fight alongside the Saudi-backed troops in alleged campaign against al-Qaeda terrorists in the Southern parts of the war-torn country, Yemeni officials said.

An informed Yemeni official said that the troops had arrived in Yemen on April 25.

After one year of Saudi Arabia and the UAE's financial and arms aid to the al-Qaeda and the ISIL terrorists, Abu Dhabi has called on the US to cooperate in the alleged fight against the terrorist groups, the official added.


Comment: That is insane. Have the terrorists gotten out of control or no longer needed? Good luck with that.


The UAE itself has retreated troops and equipment from the war on the popular forces in Yemen, although it has kept a small part of its mercenary army to allegedly fight against the ISIL and Al-Qaeda. The UAE had originally sent troops to Yemen to fight the Ansarullah popular shiite movement under the umbrella of the Saudi-led coalition.

US redeployment of troops comes a year after the withdrawal of its forces from Yemen.

Former New York Speaker sentenced to 12 years in prison over corruption scandal

Former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for corruption and been ordered to repay over $5.2 million.

"Without question I let down my constituents, I let down my family, let down my colleagues, and I'm truly, truly sorry for that," Silver told the judge prior to sentencing.

The 72-year-old Democrat was found guilty in November 2015 of using his position to receive millions of dollars in bribes related to real estate, healthcare, and referral fees, all of which were disguised as outside legal fees.

He served as the state's top Democratic lawmaker between 1976 and 2015, when he stepped down.
