Puppet Masters
The legislation was introduced last month by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and although the text doesn't specifically mention Israel or Palestine at all, Omar has made it clear that it was developed in response to the recent proliferation bills that target the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (also known as BDS). "We are introducing a resolution ... to really speak about the American values that support and believe in our ability to exercise our first amendment rights in regard to boycotting," she said shortly before the bill's introduction, "And it is an opportunity for us to explain why it is we support a nonviolent movement, which is the BDS movement."

A protester is treated by paramedics during Great March of Return protests in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, on 12 July.
Ahmad Muhammad Abdallah al-Qarra, 23, was fatally injured during demonstrations east of Khan Younis on 26 July, Gaza's health ministry stated.
More than 200 Palestinians have been killed during the protests along Gaza's eastern and northern boundaries since their launch last year.
There has been a sharp drop in the number of protest fatalities in the last few months.
Israeli forces fatally injured four Palestinians during Great March of Return protests in May, including Muhammad al-Judaili, a paramedic who succumbed to his wounds in June. Al-Qarra is the first Great March of Return fatality since al-Judaili's death.
"It's fair to say, though, that we would like to deploy a capability sooner rather than later," said Esper. "I would prefer months. I just don't have the latest state of play on timelines."
On Friday, the US formally exited from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), citing alleged violations by Russia. European officials have described the withdrawal as a risky move that undermines security on the continent.
Comment: Actions speak louder than words. It's the U.S. that withdrew from the treaty, and it's the U.S. that plans to immediately take actions that would've been illegal under the treaty. Clearly, they are the ones who wanted out of the treaty and no longer wanted to abide by its terms. Blaming Russia is only a half-hearted attempt at projecting blame.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said "Europe is losing part of its security" with the demise of the INF treaty. "I am convinced that today we must again succeed in agreeing rules on disarmament and arms control in order to prevent a new nuclear arms race."
"The third step in reducing commitments will be implemented in the current situation," Zarif said on Saturday, as quoted by local media.
The US unilaterally withdrew from the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), last year and re-imposed sanctions on Tehran. In early May, Iran gave the EU countries, which are also signatories of the deal, 60 days to negotiate sanctions relief. If that does not happen, the nation will gradually reduce its obligations under the JCPOA, Iranian officials said.
Comment: Western media 'forget' that it was the U.S. who broke the deal, not Iran - and that the EU is not fulfilling its obligations either, by rolling over to the U.S.'s increasingly hostile polices. Iran is fulling justified - under the terms of the agreement - to roll back their commitments.
In late June, Iran enacted the 'first phase' of scaling down its obligations by exceeding its stockpile of enriched uranium beyond the 300kg limit, which was set by the JCPOA. The 'second phase' - exceeding the uranium enrichment level beyond the 3.67 percent threshold set by the deal - was completed last month.
Zarif did not specify what the 'third step' will be, but Iran had earlier threatened to restart deactivated centrifuges and the enrichment the uranium stockpiles to 20 percent purity.
CNN analyst and Playboy reporter Brian Karem swore at President Trump at a White House Rose Garden event in July.
This was just before the now viral video-taped confrontation with former Trump administration official Sebastian Gorka in which Karem challenged Gorka to a fight.
Gorka and another witness said they heard Karem swear at Trump.
In addition to cursing the President, Karem threatened, heckled and insulted Trump's guests in the Rose Garden.
The R-330Zh Zhitel is a jamming communication station designed and manufactured by the Russian Company Protek. The whole system includes one Ural-43203 or KAMAZ-43114 truck and one shelter with four telescopic masts. The truck is the control center for the operators. The shelter is equipped with four telescopic active phased array transmitter antennas mounted on a four wheels trailer. The R-330Zh is designed for detection, analysis, direction-finding, and jamming of satellite and cellular phone communication systems operated in the frequency from 100 to 2,000 MHz. The jamming system provides analysis and selection of emitters' signal parameters. The system's jamming station was used successfully by the Russian army during the Crimean crisis in March 2014.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) accused fellow Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris of being a cruel prosecutor, putting "over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations" and then laughing about having smoked marijuana herself.
Gabbard then added: "She blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row until the courts forced her to do so."
Ratcliffe is being treated "very unfairly" by the media, Trump tweeted on Friday. The Texas congressman agreed to stay in the House of Representatives after Trump explained how "miserable it would be for him and his family to deal with these people" for months, according to the president.
"I do not wish for a national security and intelligence debate surrounding my confirmation, however untrue, to become a purely political and partisan issue. The country we all love deserves that it be treated as an American issue," Ratcliffe tweeted on Friday.
Trump said he intends to nominate someone else to the DNI post "shortly."
"Chairman Kim does not want to disappoint me with a violation of trust, there is far too much for North Korea to gain," Trump tweeted on Friday. While North Korea's three short-range missile tests over the past few days "may be a United Nations violation," he explained in a series of subtly menacing posts that the launches hadn't broken any agreement with the US - because Kim would never be so foolish as to break a deal with the US.
Kim "has a great and beautiful vision for his country," Trump continued, but "only the United States, with me as President, can make that vision come true." Kim was "far too smart" not to "do the right thing," lest he "disappoint his friend, President Trump."
Comment: Despite Trump's disrespectful handling of the situation, at least, for now, the US isn't sabotaging constructive relations:

- Ron Paul: If North Korea is a "state sponsor of terrorism", U.S. and Saudi Arabia are even worse

The aftermath of a missile attack launched by Yemeni armed forces on a Saudi-led coalition military parade in Aden, Yemen on August 1, 2019.
"In background briefings last month for Western analysts, the Emiratis said they were pulling back because the war appeared unwinnable," the New York Times revealed on Thursday.
Abu Dhabi has publicly been saying for more than a month that they have begun a phased withdrawal of forces participating in the Saudi-led campaign against Yemen.
Comment: Better late than never; although the fact it took them 4 years faciliating what the UN called the 'greatest humanitarian crisis' on the planet to realise this is damning. That said, Saudi Arabia continues to receive endless arms and assistance from the US, UK and other Western nations, so one wouldn't expect them to give up their war just yet:
- "Morally reprehensible": 5 UK opposition parties call for an end to £4.6 billion in weapon sales for Saudi-led slaughter in Yemen

Comment: Gabbard, who sincerely seems to be seeking peace for people everywhere, is in the unfortunate position of having to thread the Jewish Lobby needle in her quest for the Democratic nomination. Sizeable chunks of her base are on both sides of the question. To her credit, she has so far not bent the knee and addressed AIPAC, as is customary for those seeking the presidency. Whether this refusal to come down emphatically on one side or the other will hurt her in the long run remains to be seen.
