6 ways Monsanto is destroying humanity

Image
Just in case you've been living under a rock (or absorbing the limited range of carefully selected and controlled news reports from the corporate media), Monsanto is a sinister multinational with headquarters in Creve Coeur, Missouri, and it is engaged in the production of seriously harmful chemicals and agricultural biotechnology.

It's the largest manufacturer of products which include genetically engineered seed and the herbicide glyphosate.

Apart from the genetically produced seed, they have also been known to produce chemicals such as DDT, PCBs, Agent Orange and bovine growth hormone among others. It has been given the name merchant of death by many groups that inform the sleepwalking masses about the dangers of using Monsanto products.

New York Times, U.S. Justice Dept. under fire for concealing info on NSA surveillance

Image

The New York Times and the Justice Department are under fire for bowing to the National Security Agency and either hiding (the Times) or misinforming (DOJ) the public about crucial pieces of the NSA's secret spying programs.

An episode of PBS Frontline focuses on the 2004 decision by New York Times editor Bill Keller to kill a story on the NSA in the run-up to that year's presidential election. The two-part program is called 'United States of Secrets,' and reveals "the dramatic inside story of the U.S. government's massive and controversial secret surveillance program - and the lengths they went to trying to keep it hidden from the public."

The report looks back at what the NSA called 'The Program' - the NSA's decision to spy on Americans' electronic interactions by spying on telephones, internet communications, metadata from emails, and almost all forms of electronic communications - all without warrants. Scandal broke out when the secretive agency's spying techniques were revealed to the world - but not by Edward Snowden in the summer of 2013. The NSA first landed in hot water nearly eight years before the government whistleblower began leaking documents.

Israel looks to China, India as U.S. influence wanes

Israel_relations
© AP Both Netanyahu, left, and Peres visited China over the past year.
Israel is working hard to build stronger security and economic ties with China and India, looking to broaden its options as the U.S., its closest ally, starts to play a smaller role on the world stage.

Israel has high hopes for help from Beijing in dealing with Iran's nuclear weapons development. "China has a central role in the efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb," Israeli President Shimon Peres told Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping during a trip to China early last month.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited China last May, and top defense officials from the two countries have been deepening their ties. The high-profile visits underscore Israel's aim of improving its diplomatic position in the United Nations by growing closer to China, a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council.

India agreed in February to work with Israel to devise anti-terrorism measures and develop a missile defense system. They also plan to set up a fund to support joint ventures between technology companies in both countries.

Best of the Web: Who needs the United States? Not Russia and China

Image
Russia and China have just signed what is being called "the gas deal of the century", and the two countries are discussing moving away from the U.S. dollar and using their own currencies to trade with one another. This has huge implications for the future of the U.S. economy, but the mainstream media in the United States is being strangely quiet about all of this. For example, I searched CNN's website to see if I could find something about this gas deal between Russia and China and I did not find anything. But I did find links to "top stories" entitled "Celebs who went faux red" and "Adorable kid tugs on Obama's ear". Is it any wonder why the mainstream media is dying? If a particular story does not fit their agenda, they will simply ignore it. But the truth is that this new agreement between Russia and China is huge. It could end up fundamentally changing the global financial system, and not in a way that would be beneficial for the United States.

Russia and China had been negotiating this natural gas deal for ten years, and now it is finally done. Russia is the largest exporter of natural gas on the entire planet, and China is poised to become the world's largest economy in just a few years. This new $400 billion agreement means that these two superpowers could potentially enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship for the next 30 years...

Comment: Troubled waters ahead, for the US and EU. Meanwhile the landmass that is home to 80% of the planet's resources and people is forging ahead with an alternative.

Calling things by their proper names in the Ukraine

doublespeak
Life often seems like one long never ending Asch conformity experiment: even when there is overwhelming evidence that something is "A", the media, and those zombified by it, confidently state "non-A". That this kind of doublethink is also applied to the conflict in the Ukraine should surprise nobody, but it is still important to "call a stone and stone" and to give a clear and unambiguous characterization of what has happened so far and what is about to happen this Sunday.

So today I want to re-state the obvious using the most direct and unambiguous language possible. My hope is to contribute to wake up at least one comatose person out there by calling things by their proper names.

So far we have this: a thoroughly corrupt but democratically elected President (Yanukovich) was overthrown in an armed coup by (lavishly - 5 billion dollars) paid agents of a foreign power. The new regime is composed exclusively either of corrupt oligarchs (like Iatseniuk) or neo-Nazis (like Parubii). Regardless, this regime has received the full and unconditional support of the US/EU and all those client-states worldwide which depend on them.

The junta in power has unleashed a sustained campaign of terror against all those who dare to oppose it, including civilians (Odessa and Mariupol massacres) and their own armed forces (massacres near Volnovakha yesterday and near Lisichansk today). Since the regular police is now disbanded and since the regular armed forces are clearly unwilling to execute the criminal orders of this illegal junta, the sole power basis of this unelected regime are death squads like the "Donbass special battalion".

Comment: As usual, The Saker nails it. These people have no 'creative capacity'. But the reason isn't so much that they're Satanic: they're psychopathic. They have no conscience, and appeals to human values will have no effect. They need to be locked up and barred from holding any positions of power.

Dead justice: 8,000 nonviolent Occupy protesters arrested - not one banker in jail for 2008 financial meltdown

mcmillan
© Steven HirschCecily McMillan, left, assaulted by NYPD Officer Grantley Bovell, right. McMillan got charged with assault. How's that for good ol' Amurrican Justice?
Cecily McMillan is an Occupy protester who was seized from behind by a goon thug cop - a goon thug with a long record of abuse of authority - by her boobs. One was badly bruised. Cecily McMillan's elbow reflexively and instinctively came up, and Cecily was arrested for assaulting a goon thug. The goon thug was not arrested for sexually assaulting a young woman.

False arrests of this sort are common in the US. Indeed, they are more common than justified arrests. The police and the courts are completely corrupted institutions that reek of injustice and evil.

Cecily was locked up in Rikers Island without bail by the judge who sees his role as protecting the abuse of police and prosecutorial power. The judge would not allow evidence in behalf of Cecily to be presented to the jury.

Nevertheless, the jurors, or 75% of them, understood that something was wrong and although they were coerced into convicting the young woman they sent a letter to the judge requesting that no prison time be imposed on Cecily. Nevertheless, the judge for whom all must stand in respect in the courtroom, gave the goon thug's victim 90 days in prison and 5 years probation. This was Amerika's sendoff of an idealistic young woman who was about to receive a master's degree from an important educational education.

I have been concerned as a main focus of my work since the 1990s with American injustice. America's injustice is a unique kind. American injustice has actually managed to completely destroy the achievements dating from Magna Carta that made law a shield of the people instead of a weapon in the hands of the state. Today America is pre-Magna Carta England.

Comment: Unfortunately, the 'we' that is human society "with each person as an integral part" cannot transform itself without first realizing that a small subset of 'humanity' actively works to make that goal impossible: psychopaths. In a sense, it IS an 'us vs. them' matter, but it has little in common with all the "usses and thems" that we're familiar with (blacks/whites, rich/poor, Democrats/Republicans, Americans/Russians). Psychopaths exist in every country, in every system, and when a group of them comes to control a society, they create a system that caters to their own whims: a pathocracy. Psychopaths in power are the reason people like McMillan get arrested and people like Bovell evade justice.

U.S. military failed to recapture seized nuclear weapon in test attack

Image

Guards at a US nuclear missile base failed last summer drill, which was meant to test their ability to withstand a hostile takeover, reports AP citing an internal review. US Air Force called it a "critical deficiency."

In the drill the security team of the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana was required to respond to a simulated capture of a Minuteman 3 nuclear missile silo. The guards had to recapture the seized nuclear weapon in the silo, but failed to do so, the report obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request indicated.

The partially censored document cited a failure to take "all lawful actions necessary to immediately regain control of nuclear weapons," without specifying those actions. The scenario, under which a hostile force, possibly terrorist, would seize a nuclear missile silo aiming to capture the missile warhead is called 'Empty Quiver', and the internal report said the security team demonstrated called a "critical deficiency," in failing to properly respond to it.

Lawmakers warn Russian banks against giving up data under US FATCA

Russian bank facade
© www.free-bullion-investment-guide.comThe Central Bank of Russia, Moscow

The head of the Lower House financial markets committee said that until Russia passes a law, any report to US tax authorities about a client accounts in Russian banks would be considered a violation of bank secrecy.

MP Natalya Burykina (United Russia) added that bank employees who permit it could face criminal prosecution. She also said that if the United States applies sanctions to Russian banks for refusing to comply with the requirements of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Russia would reciprocate with similar sanctions.

Under current Russian law, the illegal collection of data that falls under the definition of commercial, tax or bank secrets is punished by fines of up to 80,000 rubles (about $2,285), or up to two years behind bars. Illegal disclosure or use of such information without the consent of its owner can be punished by up to 200,000 rubles in fines ($5700), a prison term of up to 3 years, and a 30-year ban on occupying certain official or commercial posts.

The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act was passed in the United States in 2010 and will come into force on July 1 this year. It requires foreign financial institutions to report to the US tax authorities about their American clients and even persons who are connected with US citizens or suspected of being such. The non-compliant banks outside the US can face punishment - US entities making payments to such institutions are required to withhold 30% of the gross sum.

Comment: FATCA, spawn of a clueless congress, demands ALL foreign financial institutions comply with unreasonable IRS requirements at their own expense and in violation of local privacy laws. The cost for this massive bureaucracy overreach is estimated in the billions of dollars and poses a direct financial and legal threat to both U.S. and foreign financial institutions, banking markets, international transactions, the U.S. financial industry, and U.S. companies abroad. Due to the complicated and tedious requirements, U.S. citizens living in other countries are losing jobs, banking accounts, pension funds, insurance contracts, and are being turned away as clients and business associates. In addition, FATCA will financially impact citizens at home since it doesn't pay for itself. This boondoggle is creating serious backlash for the U.S. economy and goodwill abroad.

Saber rattling: U.S. tests cornerstone of European antimissile shield

Image

The US has successfully test-fired Aegis Ashore, the land-based version of the naval antiballistic missile system, which is to be deployed in Eastern Europe starting next year despite Moscow's objections.

The US Missile Defense Agency and the Navy have for the first time test-fired the land-based version of Aegis BMD on Tuesday, with engineers from Lockheed Martin, producer of the system, participating in the test. A Standard Missile 3 (SM-3) Block IB was fired from an installation on Kauai, Hawaii, and successfully hit a simulated target. The test was aimed at verifying safe launch and fly-out of the missile from the launch facility.

The US plans to conduct a test with a real target next year before a scheduled deployment of Aegis Ashore in Romania. A second similar system is to be deployed in Poland in 2018.

The systems are meant to intercept ballistic and cruise missiles mid-course. The US insists they are needed to protect America's Eastern European allies from possible missile attack by North Korea and Iran, but Russia is certain that they are aimed at weakening its nuclear deterrence capability.

NSA spies on OSCE HQ in Vienna

Among the many targets for the UN National Security Agency's electronic surveillance is the Vienna-based headquarters of the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Austrian media reported.

The OSCE is mentioned among the targets for NSA in the National Intelligence Priorities Framework (NIPF), a confidential document outlining intelligence gathering priorities, reported on Wednesday Austrian newspaper Die Presse. It cites German journalist Holger Stark with Der Spiegel magazine, who has access to NSA documents leaked by Edward Snowden.

The NIPF update from April 9, 2013, lists OSCE's foreign policy as a Level 4 point of interest for the US and its involvement in arms trade control as a Level 3 point of interest, Stark told the newspaper. Level 3 information is considered important enough by the US intelligence community to make its way to the US secretaries of defense and state, he added.
