The White Helmet 'coronavirus campaign' is a cynical exploitation of the pandemic to weaponize it against the Syrian government. To really help the Syrians they should demand a lift of Western sanctions, not support them.

Five cases of coronavirus have now been reported by the health ministry in Syria. The country is subject to a curfew from 6pm to 6am as of March 25. Syria braces itself for a potential medical crisis.

The Syrian healthcare sector has been crippled under a "maximum pressure" economic sanctions campaign that has collectively punished the Syrian people for the duration of a war waged against them by the same governments inflicting the catastrophic economic damage. Hospitals and medical care centers have been targeted and occupied by the extremist armed groups throughout Syria, further reducing the Syrian state-ability to deal with the looming threat of an apparently rapacious pandemic.

Sanctions increase the risk of pandemic spread

All measures taken against the Syrian government by the UK, US and EU are ostensibly to "protect" the Syrian people. Of course sanctions never protect the people, they deprive the people of basic needs, they decimate essential infrastructure. They are designed to weaken the target state or leadership, to turn the people against the government, to serve US-led foreign policy agendas in the region. Sanctions enable war and destruction, they are taken to bring resistant nations into line with horrifying consequences for the civilian population.

In London for a new round of Imperialism On Trial (February 25, info here), I was on George Galloway's The Mother Of All Talkshows Sunday night to discuss Syria.


George gives an excellent introduction on the nature of systematic, paid-for, organized, deliberate, war propaganda on Syria, to deceive people and whitewash the nature of the heinous, criminal, actions of the terrorists dubbed by the west as "rebels" who have beheaded children, among other crimes.

He kindly points out that I and others who have been telling the truth on Syria are being vindicated on a daily basis.

US forces in Iraq began their withdrawal from a key northern airfield on Thursday, returning Qayyara Air Base to Iraqi control.

With its two 11,000-foot runways capable of handling the largest American bombers and transports, Qayyara West Airfield, about 37 miles south of Mosul, played a key role in the fight against Daesh once it was recaptured from the pseudostate in 2016. Now, US forces have begun the process of leaving the air base, returning it to Iraqi control in a Thursday ceremony.

"As a result of the ISF's [Iraqi Special Forces] success in their fight against [Daesh], and in conjunction with our partner forces and the Government of Iraq, CJTF-OIR will relocate and consolidate personnel and equipment from several Iraqi bases throughout 2020," a Thursday statement by Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) reads.

Comment: At least it's a beginning. The Iraqis have been demanding the Empire and its lackeys leave ever since Trump declared 'victory' over ISIS/ISIL.

Faced with Coronavirus "our first concern is to protect the health of our forces and our Allies"- the US European Command declared. It therefore announced it had reduced Defender Europe 20 exercise in number of soldiers. But it will go on anyway.

"Since January the US Army has deployed 6,000 soldiers from the United States to Europe," with 12,000 pieces of equipment (from personal armaments to tanks), and "soldiers and equipment movement " from different ports to training areas in Germany and Poland has been completed," the Command stated on March 16. In addition, 9,000 US service members based in Europe will also be participating in the exercise. Since January, the Army deployed approximately 6,000 soldiers from United States to Europe. It moved approximately 9,000 vehicles and pieces of equipment from Army Prepositioned Stocks and approximately 3,000 pieces of equipment via sea from United States. It also completed movement of soldiers and equipment from multiple ports to training areas in Germany and Poland.

There's stunning news from Israel this morning. The country's year-long political stalemate appears to be over. The leader for the last year of political opposition to Netanyahu, Benny Gantz, has folded and joined forces with Netanyahu to make a government with Netanyahu continuing as prime minister.

Gantz is breaking up his "Blue White" alliance of three center-right factions and bringing 15 seats over to Netanyahu's bloc of 58 or 59 seats to make a strong majority, according to reports.

"Benjamin Netanyahu will be Prime Minister... Benny Gantz will be Foreign Minister," says Ellie Hochenberg of i24 News. She says Netanyahu stayed loyal to his rightwing base and political allies, while Gantz did not.

Netanyahu is already Israel's longest-serving prime minister, at four terms and 14 years, including 11 straight since 2009. He has been saved by his former army chief of staff — General Gantz pummeled Gaza in 2014, killing more than 500 children.

What's going on in the fifth largest economy in the world arguably points to a major collusion scandal in which the French government is helping Big Pharma to profit from the expansion of Covid-19. Informed French citizens are absolutely furious about it.

My initial question to a serious, unimpeachable Paris source, jurist Valerie Bugault, was about the liaisons dangereuses between Macronism and Big Pharma and especially about the mysterious "disappearance" - more likely outright theft - of all the stocks of chloroquine in possession of the French government.

Respected Professor Christian Perronne talked about the theft live in one of France's 24/7 info channels: "The central pharmacy for the hospitals announced today that they were facing a total rupture of stocks, that they were pillaged."

'Models don't match reality': White House coronavirus chief rejects doomsday predictions as US tops Covid-19 case count

Even as the US overtook China in the official number of Covid-19 cases, the top physician leading the White House effort urged Americans not to panic, as models predicting the death of millions keep being proven wrong everywhere.

"The predictions of the models don't match the reality on the ground in neither China, South Korea nor Italy," Dr. Deborah Birx told reporters on Thursday. She noted that the alarmist statistics about the spread of the virus said Italy would reach 400,000 deaths by now, but the actual death toll was nowhere near that.

Italy, which has been the hardest-hit in terms of deaths from Covid-19, has reported over 80,000 cases with 8,215 fatalities and counting, just as the US surged to first place in the number of confirmed cases (over 83,000), but with far lower mortality of at least 1,200 deaths attributed to the virus so far.

There is "no reality on the ground where we can see that 60-70 percent of Americans are going to get infected in the next 8-12 weeks," Birx said.

The US Treasury Department has slapped fresh sanctions on Iran, accusing several Iranian firms of aiding terrorism. Meanwhile, Tehran and the UN have called for the easing of sanctions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Treasury sanctioned 15 individuals and five companies on Thursday, accusing them of supporting and acting "on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps-Qods Force," considered by Washington to be a terrorist organization. Three construction companies, a petrochemical firm, and a religious organization are included on the list.

The sanctions come as Iran's death toll from the Covid-19 coronavirus passes 2,000. Nearly 30,000 people in the Islamic Republic have been infected in Iran, which is among the worst-hit countries in the world by the deadly illness.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be among the leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) major economies expected to participate in an online summit hosted by Saudi Arabia.

The event, scheduled for March 26, comes as the world's economies struggle to contain the economic damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The emergency video conference will be chaired by Saudi King Salman, who is embroiled in a price war with Russia on energy markets after the two sides failed to reach agreement on production cuts at a recent OPEC+ meeting in Vienna.

"As the world confronts the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges to health-care systems and the global economy, we convene this extraordinary G20 summit to unite efforts toward a global response," the Saudi king said. Riyadh holds the rotating G20 presidency.

Leaders of the United Nations, the World Bank, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO) will also participate in the video conference. The meeting is expected to begin at 3 p.m. Saudi time.

Comment: It will be interesting to see if anything is resolved, given the various forces in play and agendas represented.
