Gas Queen Tymoshenko sez arson attack at Ukrainian national broadcaster 'impossible without involvement of high-ranking officials'

Ukrainian national broadcaster Inter TV was set on fire on Sunday and was forced to start broadcasting from outside; employees say it was deliberate arson, which raises serious concerns about freedom of speech in Ukraine; meanwhile former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko claims high-ranking officials might have a hand in it.

A building housing the studios and offices of Ukrainian broadcaster Inter TV were set on fire on Sunday, the result of a "heavy attack from so-called "patriots" wearing military uniforms," according to the statement posted on the channel's website.

The statement, addressed to representatives of international organizations and to Ambassadors of foreign states accredited in Ukraine, details that the attack came at about 4:30 pm on September 4, when the attackers "set fire to the building, destroyed equipment, and trapped employees in the smoke-filled premises, leading to multiple injuries."

Comment: Inter TV is widely regarded by Ukrainians as being 'pro-Russian'. That in and of itself is reason for extremist neo-Nazi groups to attack it, who do have connections in power. After all, a 'former' neo-Nazi commander is Speaker of Parliament. Inter TV's scheduled expose of the trafficking of precious stones in Western Ukraine provides further motive, especially for corrupt oligarchs who may be involved. Ultimately, as Konrad Stachnio wrote back in 2014:
Currently Ukraine cannot be treated in terms of the State but only as an area that is controlled by organized crime groups. It is clearly seen that even in the western part of Ukraine local governments are financed by oligarchs who are in control of the situation, not the police. Currently Ukraine does not meet the definition of the State.
A true bastion of 'Western values'.

Putin offers to host Palestine talks in Moscow - Netanyahu 'considering it'

Netanyahu na udaru kritika zbog izjave da se brine za palestinski narod više od njihovih vođa
Benjamin Netanyahu is considering Russia's offer to host Israeli-Palestinian talks in Moscow, a statement from the Israeli PM's press service said.

"[Netanyahu] presented Israel's position whereby he is always ready to meet [Abbas] without preconditions and is therefore considering the Russian president's proposal and the timing for a possible meeting," the statement reads, as cited by Reuters news agency.

The statement came after Netanyahu held talks with Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Envoy to the Middle East, Mikhail Bogdanov.

If agreed upon, the talks would be the first between the two leaders in several years, amid the ongoing rift in the region.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there is currently no agreement regarding the talks.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said that he doubts Netanyahu is ready to fulfill the conditions needed for the talks to take place. Israel must stop building settlements in the West Bank, as well as release a number of Palestinian detainees, he said.

"In this framework we do not oppose holding the meeting [...] between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Benjamin Netanyahu under the aegis of Russia. But it seems to us that Netanyahu is not currently ready for such a step," al-Maliki said, according to Al Ayam newspaper, as cited by Sputnik.

Comment: Israel knows the Empire is on its way down and will need a new patron soon. It looks like the price for cozying up to Russia will be to give at least the appearance of wanting to talk peace with the Palestinians.

Europe's role in Ukraine's war: EU's hand in the 2014 coup

 European Union
The European Union is not a benevolent institution. In Ukraine its actions triggered a violent political crisis and a long and bloody war.

Saturday 3rd September 2016 witnessed the odd spectacle of a protest in central London in favour of European Union membership.

It is odd for several reasons. First of all, it must be remembered the British political establishment, big business, the banks, the entire financial sector, the US government and all heads of European government were entirely anti-Brexit. In this sense, the marchers were protesting in favour of the establishment which is hardly a protest at all.

But then there was a more sinister undertone. Through a combination of ingrained Russophobia, incompetence and acting as a political arm of the US Department of State, the European Union has come to represent death, terror and misery of the people of Donbass.

On the sidelines of the G20 summit in China, Russian President Putin and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have discussed the Syrian crisis and the issue of restoring the suspended Turkish Stream gas pipeline project, the Kremlin's spokesman says.

"They talked for quite a long time, both in the format of the delegations meeting and one-on-one plus the foreign ministers. They then exchanged views on the Syrian issue. The conversation was quite frank and thorough," Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, according to RIA Novosti.

Putin: Western foreign policy of "humanitarian intervention" led to failed states and rise of terrorism

The Russian President leveled his most fierce blow yet against interventionist foreign policies arguing that productive societal change must begin at the ground level from within rather than being imparted by outside liberators.

President Putin opined in an interview with Bloomberg at the Eastern Economic Forum that events from the last decade and a half show that the budding Western foreign policy theory of humanitarian interventionism, wars of liberation and outside efforts to bolster opposition to autocratic conditions result in fertile breeding grounds for terrorists and destabilize nation-states - with Iraq, Libya and Syria being the most prominent and graphic examples.

"I've always been of the opinion that you can't change things from the outside, regarding political regimes, power change," Putin explained.

"I'm sure - and the events of the past decade add to this certainty - in particular the attempts at democratization in Iraq, Libya, we see what they led to: the destruction of state systems and the rise of terrorism."

Russian President Vladimir Putin (L) meets with U.S. President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, China, September 5, 2016.
U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a longer-than-expected discussion on Monday about whether, and how, they could agree on a ceasefire deal in war-torn Syria, a senior U.S. administration official said.

Obama and Putin spent about 90 minutes in a "constructive" meeting about getting humanitarian aid into the country, reducing violence, and cooperating on combating militant groups, the official told reporters.

In talks earlier on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov were unable to come to terms on a ceasefire for the second time in two weeks, with U.S. officials stressing they would walk away if a near-term pact could not be reached.

Comment: Also reports of a leaked letter:
Meanwhile Reuters says it has obtained a copy of a letter from Washington's Syria envoy, Michael Ratney, dated September 3, to the armed opposition, which lays out some of the ceasefire terms.

"It would oblige Russia to prevent warplanes from bombing areas held by the mainstream opposition, require the withdrawal of Damascus's forces from a supply route north of Aleppo, and focus on the delivery of humanitarian aid, unhindered by warring sides, to the city's population," the agency quotes the letter as saying.

"In return, the United States would coordinate with Russia in fighting against al-Qaeda, it said, without elaborating," the agency adds. "The Syrian government and Russia were also to avoid bombing areas where more moderate insurgent groups are operating close to Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, previously the al Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front," it says.

N. Korea fires 3 ballistic missiles hours after Seoul justifies US anti-missiles as 'inevitable self-defense'

North Korea has launched three ballistic missiles off its east coast into the sea, South Korean news agency Yonhap reports. The latest test comes just hours after the issue of potential threat from Pyongyang was discussed among regional powers at the G20 summit in China.

The launch on Monday is the latest in a series of more than 10 ballistic tests the North has conducted so far this year. In late August, the Pyongyang military fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile off North Korea's east coast, a day after US and South Korea started their annual Ulchi Freedom Guardian military drills.

The North test-fired the three ballistic missiles from Hwangju in North Hwanghae Province at around 12:14 p.m. local time, South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a text message, Yonhap reports. The type of missiles fired and how far they flew was not immediately available.

Having looked at the Russian military's cyber warfare modernization, the United States rushed to develop similar capabilities that could be used in the event of a "large force-on-force conflict in a place like Europe."

On August 11, the US Army announced the creation of the Army Rapid Capabilities Office to prevent "capability gaps" that have formed within the American military in recent years.

"Our adversaries are modernizing at a rapid rate, and in some cases, our capabilities are inadequate to keep up, to maintain our edge," Maj. Gen. Walter E. Piatt, who is in charge of the operations in the new office said in a statement. "We need to ... make sure that they are offset from us, not the other way around."

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) opened fire Sunday at positions of the Syrian artillery in the Golan Heights, the IDF spokesperson said.

The spokesperson cited initial reports that said mortar fire from the Syrian artillery had hit an open area within the territory administered by the Israeli military. No one was reportedly injured.

"In response to mortar fire earlier today, IDF targeted Syrian regime artillery positions in the Syrian Golan Heights," the message read.

The Golan Heights is a disputed territory on the Israeli-Syrian border. Israel occupied part of the land during the 1967 war and has been managing it alongside other areas in the West Bank for almost half a century.

The role of the developing countries in the global governance system is growing, and the BRICS member-countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) are the driving force of this process, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at an informal meeting of the BRICS leaders on Sunday ahead of the G20 summit in China's Hangzhou.

"The joint economic growth of the emerging markets and developing countries is perhaps one of the most significant changes in the modern world, and the BRICS member-countries are the driving force of this process as well as important G20 participants," he said. Xi Jinping also noted that the countries should step up coordination and cooperation for the development of BRICS and the G20 group and pointed to the need "to help strengthen the role of the emerging economies and developing countries" to consolidate their position in the global governance structure.
