The outgoing IDF chief of staff has spilled the beans on a poorly guarded secret of the Israeli military, that it has supplied Syrian rebels fighting President Bashar Assad's government with weapons "for self-defense."

Gadi Eisenkot, who was the Israeli Defense Forces' Chief of Staff for the last three years, told the Sunday Times in a farewell interview that Israel had been directly involved in the Syrian conflict on the side of the Syrian rebels, something that Tel Aviv has been reluctant to acknowledge before.

The general, who is retiring from military service, said that Israel supplied rebels at the border with light weapons for the purposes of "self-defense."

Comment: BS. The Syrian army was not going around attacking anyone. It was the terrorists, funded and armed by Western intelligence, that forced the Syrian military to fight and try to save its people and cities from being taken over by psychopathic terrorists hell-bent on turning Syria into a US puppet state and overturning Assad from rule.

While the direct links between Syrian rebels and Israeli commanders have been officially revealed for the first time, rumors of close military ties between the armed militants and the Israeli government have been circulating for years.

BBC a 'fake news factory that Brits accept with a smile' - Russian security chief

Britain is a former empire trying to stay relevant in European affairs by becoming an anti-Russian champion, Nikolai Patrushev, a senior Russian security official, believes. British people see through this ruse, he said.

Patrushev, the former head of the security service FSB, who currently chairs the Russian national security council, painted a highly unfavorable picture of modern Britain in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta. He said the British establishment still cannot get over their country's rapid transition from the world's most-powerful empire to a nation subjugated by its former colony, the United States.

Today the British leadership learns about the most important decisions taken in the White House from the media. Britain cannot remain even the leader of the Old World. The continental Europe is tired of London's arrogant one-sided policy, its outdated habit of trying to dictate terms to others.

Why Israel's Airstrikes in Syria Are a Sign of Weakness, Not Strength

I will proceed from what seems to be an established fact (SANA confirmed) that on the night of January 11th Israel hit one depot at Damascus international airport. I.e., material damage. 12 projectiles were fired in total. Syrian air defences worked, and by all accounts they were as effective as they were in the previous Israeli bombing run (80% accuracy approx.).

Even if Israel had hit two warehouses or a local farm in addition, then it changes absolutely nothing. What the Syrian Army lost can be replaced with little risk; Iran has seemingly supplied the Syrian Army very well and continues to do so at will.

How many times has Israel hit targets in and around Damascus and its airport since 2015? The answer is "many". And each attack resulted in more or less the same thing - small material losses. A few times troops were killed in a couple of cases, but this can hardly be described as large losses (yes, war entails human losses - shocking, isn't it?).

There is some misunderstanding in regards to why Russia sent the S-300 to Syria and upgraded the Syrian Army's air defence network, integrating it into its own network. Like with the S-400, there was the assumption that Israel would never bomb Syria again, or that a NFZ was created.

A truthified version of Mike Pompeo's disgraceful Egypt speech about US influence in the Middle East

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, center, speaks to the press during a tour of the newly inaugurated Al-Fattah Al-Alim mosque in Egypt’s new administrative capital, east of Cairo, on Jan. 10, 2019
"The good news is this: The age of self-inflicted American shame is over."

So said Mike Pompeo in Cairo on Thursday. Donald Trump's hawkish secretary of state delivered a speech at the site of Barack Obama's famous 2009 address to the Muslim world, but Pompeo denounced the former president for "wishful thinking," partnering "with enemies," and a reluctance "to wield our influence" in the region.

Pompeo claimed that the United States was "a force for good in the Middle East" and referred to "America's innate goodness." His 3,500-word address at the American University in Cairo contained only one passing reference to "democracy" and zero references to "equality" or "human rights." There were more than 20 references, however, to "malevolent" and "oppressive" Iran.

Amid Venezuela/Brazil spat, Maduro calls Bolsonaro a 'modern Hitler'

Bolsonaro

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Monday called Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro a modern Adolf Hitler, days after Brasilia officially recognized an opposition leader as the legitimate head of the increasingly isolated country.

Brazil on Saturday said it recognized Juan Guaido, head of Venezuela's opposition-run Congress, as legitimate president after Maduro was sworn in to a second term that countries around the world described as illegitimate.

"Over there we've got Brazil in the hands of a fascist - Bolsonaro is a Hitler of the modern era!" Maduro said during a state of the nation speech.

"Let's leave the task of Bolsonaro to the wonderful people of Brazil, who will fight and take care of him."

Ukraine: Cult of Stepan Bandera is not a detail, it's a cornerstone

Bandera Kiev

Bandera march in Kiev
During the recent years of the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, there has been one issue where the Western mainstream press simply cannot fully ignore or reject the Russian arguments. This issue concerns the life and actions of Stepan Bandera (1909-1959) and his followers from what is known as the "Banderite" faction of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN, a far-right organization that took terrorist actions against Polish and Soviet officials from the 1920s to the 1950s and which is now legally protected from any criticism in Ukraine).

THE "WRONG" AND "RIGHT" VICTIMS

Because Bandera was born on January 1, 1909, celebrations of his birthday have become disgusting New Year's rituals in Ukraine in recent years, with thousands participating in Nazi-style torch-lit marches that include shouted protests against "Putin's Russia" and rants such as, "Jews out!" which are heard by everyone except the police. This New Year was no exception, since the current Ukrainian government under President Petro Poroshenko (who publicly identified himself as a Banderite after taking office in 2014) officially added Bandera's 110th birthday to the list of Ukraine's most important anniversaries. This time, there were several quiet voices of condemnation heard in Poland, Israel, and even the US. Why? In truth, torches, masks, political murders, and mob attacks against "pro-Russian" public figures are nothing new in post-Maidan Ukraine. And these things usually pose no problem for the mainstream press of the US and its allies. So, why is Bandera an exception?

EU wants to kick the can down the road, delay Brexit until July

The news comes after The Guardian earlier in the day reported that both Brussels and London were preparing to delay Brexit until July due to the opposition against UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

According to President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, the EU is ready to "double efforts" in the talks if the Brexit transition period is extended. They noted, however, that Brussels would not agree to any changes to the deal.

"The [European] Commission can confirm that, like the United Kingdom, the European Union does not want this provision to enter into force", the letter signed by the EU politicians read.

Netanahu tells Iran to get out of Syria 'fast' - Israel won't stop illegally attacking Syria

Benjamin Netanyahu shakes hands with incoming Israeli Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the IDF will continue to attack Iranians in Syria. Earlier, an Israeli commander said it conducted attacks in the country on nearly a daily basis and supplied arms to Syrian rebels.

"I'm telling you, get out of there fast. We won't stop attacking," the prime minister said on Tuesday morning during a ceremony, in which he appointed Aviv Kochavi as the new chief of staff of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Netanyahu also rejected statements by an Iranian official, who said Iran only sent military advisers to Syria and not regular fighting troops.

"They always lie. They are lying with that and they are lying when they say their attempt to launch a satellite into space failed," he said.

Comment: Netanyahu's one to talk. Israeli officials always lie.

Comment: The irony is that Iran is leaving. They pulled out of the southwest, close to the Golan, back when the Syrians and Russians liberated the rebel-held areas there. And rumor has it that Russia brokered a deal with the Americans and Iranians with promises from each side to leave Syria if the other did (Syria's official goal has always been for all foreign troops to leave Syria, starting with those there illegally). Basically, Israel just can't help itself. It will take advantage of any situation just for the excuse of appearing strong. It's not.

'Heroes'? Budapest lauds Nazi-allied Hungarians who invaded USSR

The official Facebook page of the Hungarian government has called its soldiers, who were killed in the Soviet Union while assisting Nazi Germany's invasion of the country, "heroes who fought for Hungary."

The mind-boggling statement is meant to commemorate the Hungarian casualties of the so-called Ostrogozhsk-Rossosh offensive, an operation of the Red Army in what is now southeastern Ukraine, which was launched in January 1943. During the campaign, the Soviets defeated Hungarian and Italian troops that were allied with Nazi Germany, with an estimated 50,000 killed and 70,000 taken prisoner over the course of 15 days.

According to the statement by the Hungarian government, however, Hitler's allies that invaded the USSR "fought for Hungary at the Don River," and should be respected as heroes. How exactly taking part in a war of aggression amounts to fighting for one's homeland was not explained, however.

Hungary, which became a highly nationalistic expansionist state and had close ties with Germany and Italy in the 1930s, became a formal member of the Axis powers in 1940. Budapest provided troops for the Germany-backed occupation of Yugoslavia, and later participated in the German invasion of the USSR, joining the offensive a week after it started.

Comment: Arch-stupid move by Hungary here. Do they really want to go the same route followed by Ukraine, glorifying Nazis? There are other ways to foster a sense of patriotism without reverting to the worst examples of history.

California's new Governor proposes taxing drinking water

Gavin Newsom

California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom
Just when you think California cannot possibly come up with more things to tax, the new governor, Gavin Newsom, decides to tax drinking water. In Newsom's first budget proposal on Friday, the communist included a tax on drinking water.

The new budget, titled "California for All," declares drinking water a "fundamental right," yet proposes to tax that "right."
"The Budget includes short-term measures to bring immediate relief to communities without safe drinking water and also proposes an ongoing sustainable funding source to address this problem into the future."
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the details of the proposed tax are unknown, however, a similar proposal was abandoned by then-Governor Jerry Brown last year after failing to garner enough support in the legislature. According to Breitbart, critics have already slammed the plan. Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Travis Allen is urging fellow Republicans to "take back" the state on social media, and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association and the Association of California Water Agencies are saying that the state should tap into its budget surplus to pay for the needed clear water supplies.

Comment: Soon he will propose everyone must wear a monitor and tax every breath they take.
