Putin: 'If Poland's troops enter Ukraine, they will remain there... forever'

In Warsaw, they forgot that Poland, thanks to Stalin, received a lot of western lands. This was stated on July 21 by Russian President Vladimir Putin during an operational meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council.

Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the words of the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, that Poland is considering the introduction of troops into the territory of Western Ukraine. The head of state noted that if the Polish units enter, for example, Lviv, then they will remain there, and they will remain forever.

Putin reminded that there would be nothing new in these actions of Poland. Indeed, after the defeat of Germany and its allies in the First World War, the Polish units occupied Lvov and the surrounding lands, which then belonged to Austria-Hungary.

PUTIN: "If Polish units enter, for example, Lviv or other territories of Ukraine, they will remain there. And they will stay there forever. This, by the way, will be nothing new. Let me remind you that after the defeat of Germany and its allies at the end of World War I, Polish units occupied Lviv and the adjacent lands that belonged to Austria-Hungary at that time.

Poland, instigated by the West, took advantage of the tragedy of the Russian Civil War and annexed some historical Russian provinces. Our country, which was in a dire situation at that time, was forced to conclude the Treaty of Riga in 1921 and actually recognized the annexation of its territories.

And even earlier, in 1920, Poland seized a part of Lithuania - Vilna region, the territory around modern Vilnius. It seems that together with Lithuanians they fought against the so-called "Russian imperialism", and as soon as an opportunity arose, they immediately grabbed a piece of land from their neighbors.

Poland, as it is known, took part in the division of Czechoslovakia as a result of the Munich agreement with Hitler in 1938. It completely occupied Teshinska Silesia.

In the 20s and 30s of the last century in the so-called Eastern Kresy of Poland - and this is the territory of Western Ukraine, Western Belarus and part of Lithuania - there was a rigid polonization and assimilation of local inhabitants, suppression of national cultures and Orthodoxy.

I would also like to remind you of how such an aggressive policy ended for Poland. It ended with the national tragedy of 1939, when Poland was thrown by the Western allies to the German war machine and actually lost its independence and statehood, which was restored to a great extent thanks to the Soviet Union. And it was thanks to the Soviet Union, thanks to Stalin's position, that Poland gained significant lands in the West, lands of Germany. That's exactly right: the western territories of present-day Poland are Stalin's gift to the Poles."

Most Ukrainian grain does not reach Africa - Italian defense minister

Guido Crosetto has warned that if poorer nations do not receive vital food supplies it could destabilize the region.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has claimed that only a tiny fraction of Ukraine's grain exports are going to Africa, contrary to the goals of the Black Sea Initiative, causing prices of staple foods on the continent to soar.

Speaking to the La Stampa news outlet on Friday, Crosetto was asked if the Ukrainian grain deal, which was recently suspended by Russia, could affect stability in North Africa. The minister replied by pointing out that "everything is connected and it is certainly an element of concern."

Newsweek asks Robert F. Kennedy Jr: Why not stop the conspiracy theories?

Comment: Some context:

"You mean keep my mouth shut?" Robert F. Kennedy Jr. retorts when Newsweek asks him why he doesn't stop promoting conspiracy theories as he challenges President Joe Biden for the 2024 Democratic nomination.

"My father told me when I was a little boy that people in authority lie and the job in a democracy is to remain skeptical. I've been science-based since I was a kid. Show me the evidence and I'll believe you, but I'm not going to take the word of official narratives," he explained.

While dismissed by detractors for peddling positions they say are unsubstantiated, Kennedy has used his anti-authority stance to win a post-COVID, post-Trump following that has seen him polling 20 percent against Biden among Democrats.

NATO Meeting

The NATO Summit in Vilnius (July 11-12) signalled that there is absolutely no possibility of talks to settle the Ukraine war in a foreseeable future. The war will only intensify, as the US and its allies still hope to inflict a military defeat on Russia although that is clearly beyond their capability.

On July 14, Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of US joint chiefs of staff said that Ukraine's counteroffensive is "far from a failure" but the fight ahead will be "long" and "bloody". Milley has a reputation for speaking what the White House wants to hear, no matter his professional judgment.

Indeed, on July 19, the Biden administration announced additional security assistance of about $1.3 billion for Ukraine. The Pentagon said in a statement that the announcement "represents the beginning of a contracting process to provide additional priority capabilities to Ukraine." That is to say, the US will be using funds in its Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative program, which allows the administration to buy weapons from industry rather than pull from US weapons stocks.

According to the Pentagon, the latest package includes four National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) and munitions; 152 mm artillery rounds; mine clearing equipment; and drones.

Meanwhile, in an ominous development, no sooner than Russia let the UN-brokered grain deal expire on July 17, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky disclosed that he had sent official letters to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan suggesting to continue the grain deal without Russia's participation.

On the very next day, Kiev followed up with an official letter to the UN's International Maritime Organization spelling out a new maritime corridor passing through Romania's territorial waters and exclusive maritime economic zone in the north-western part of the Black Sea.

Putin: Kiev counteroffensive 'has had no success'

The Ukrainian military has lost "tens of thousands" of troops in its push against Moscow's forces, the Russian president has said

The West is evidently disappointed that Kiev's much-lauded counteroffensive has failed to produce any results and has led to high levels of Ukrainian casualties, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

Kiev has received "colossal amounts of resources," including all kinds of Western weapons and "thousands of foreign mercenaries and advisers," but has still failed in its campaign, Putin stated during a government meeting on Friday.

The leader praised the bravery, resolve, and professionalism of Russian soldiers and officers. He also argued that Western military equipment had proven to be inferior in some ways even to Soviet-era weapons.

John Bolton accidentally explains why US policy on Russia and China is wrong

JBolton

Professional psychopath John Bolton has an article out with The Hill titled "America can't permit Chinese military expansion in Cuba" which inadvertently spells out exactly what's wrong with the way the US empire keeps amassing heavily armed proxy forces on the borders of its large Asiatic enemies.

Citing a Wall Street Journal report from last month in which anonymous US officials claim that Havana has entered negotiations with Beijing for a possible future joint military training facility in Cuba, Bolton argues that the US must use any amount of aggression necessary to prevent this facility's construction, up to and including regime change interventionism.

Bolton writes:
"The potential of significant Chinese facilities in Cuba is a red-flag threat to America. Such activities could well camouflage offensive weapons, delivery systems or other threatening capabilities. For example, hypersonic cruise missiles, already harder to detect, track, and destroy than ballistic missiles, are natural candidates for installation in Cuba, a prospect we cannot tolerate, along with many other risks, like a Chinese submarine base."
All of which are arguments that could be made pretty much note-for-note by Russia and China about the ways the US has been threatening their security interests with war machinery in their immediate surroundings.

"If it weren't for double standards, the Democrats would have no standards at all."
— Jeff Childers of the Coffee and Covid blog
You might not know it these lazy, hazy, muggy days of midsummer, but things are getting pretty wildly out-of-hand in our republic. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. blew up the Democratic Party yesterday in the House Subcommittee on Weaponization of Government hearing, acting like a normal human while being set upon by a flock of harpies desperately screeching "Russia, Russia, Russia," as if that means anything anymore. He branded them as worse than the McCarthyites of the 1950s, rebuked their insane scurrilities supporting censorship, and left them in a state of exhausted disgrace.

It happens that he is running for the nomination of that very party knocking itself out to destroy him. To win that prize he would have to put a thousand top Democrats through some grueling act of repentance and contrition — and then you've got to ask yourself: who would even want to win the support of such vile creatures as Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Jerrold Nadler, and Adam Schiff, let alone be associated with them in the same club?

Fauci, health officials accused of illegally approving $26 billion in grants using taxpayer dollars

Following a letter sent out July 7th, members of the Energy and Commerce Committee held a news conference last week on what they said was Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra's failure to lawfully reappoint 14 National Institutes of Health officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Following a bipartisan law passed in 2016, the 21st Century Cures Act, the Secretary of the HHS had to reappoint NIH Institute and Center Directors every five years, starting with those whose terms would expire in December 2021.

Energy and Commerce Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., said at the news conference:
"There's been a complete breakdown of accountability at the agency that has lost the trust of the American people, especially during COVID-19. 14 NIH officials, including Dr. Fauci, held unlawful positions and exercised authority that they didn't have, which included approving $26 billion in grants.

"No one is above the law. Americans need to know that their tax dollars are being spent responsibly, effectively, and lawfully and that the people making these decisions are lawfully authorized to make them."

Comment: These issues were not addressed nor pursued during the 'epidemic'. Apparently the 'lockdown' included both minds and reason.

Belarus announces joint military maneuvers with Russia's Wagner mercenaries

Belarus says its soldiers have begun holding joint military maneuvers with fighters from Russia's Wagner mercenary group in the city of Brest, which lies on the border with NATO member Poland.

According to a July 20 statement from the Defense Ministry:
"Through the course of a week, special operations units, together with representatives of the [Wagner] company, will work out training and military goals on the Brest military training field."
The ministry said more details would be made public later.

The statement comes a day after Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, who led the mercenary group's aborted mutiny last month, appeared in a video in Belarus welcoming his fighters and saying they would help to turn the country's army into the second-best in the world.

Neocons want war with China

Kissinger and Xi
© AFP 2023 / CNS
It was a photo op for the ages: a visibly well-disposed President Xi Jinping receiving centenarian "old friend of China" Henry Kissinger in Beijing.

Mirroring meticulous Chinese attention to protocol, they met at Villa 5 of the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse - exactly where Kissinger first met in person with Zhou Enlai in 1971, preparing Nixon's 1972 visit to China.

The Mr. Kissinger Goes to Beijing saga was an "unofficial", individual attempt to try to mend increasingly fractious Sino-American relations. He was not representing the current American administration.

There's the rub. Everyone involved in geopolitics is aware of the legendary Kissinger formulation: To be the US's enemy is dangerous, to be the US's friend is fatal. History abounds in examples, from Japan and South Korea to Germany, France and Ukraine.

As quite a few Chinese scholars privately argued, if reason is to be upheld, and "respecting the wisdom of this 100-years-old diplomat", Xi and the Politburo should maintain the China-US relation as it is: "icy".

After all, they reason, being the US's enemy is dangerous but manageable for a Sovereign Civilizational State like China. So Beijing should keep "the honorable and less perilous status" of being a US enemy.
