Critics roast Kamala Harris' for 'evil,' 'astonishing lie' about Florida's school curriculum on slavery

Harris claimed Florida will now teach students 'that enslaved people benefited from slavery'

Vice President Kamala Harris faced a wave of criticism Friday following her speech in Jacksonville, Florida, blasting what she said was the state's new history curriculum teaching students that slaves in the U.S. actually "benefited from slavery."

"Just yesterday in the state of Florida they decided middle school students will be taught that enslaved people benefited from slavery. They insult us in an attempt to gaslight us, and we will not stand for it," Harris said, referencing the new curriculum approved by the Florida Department of Education on Wednesday that includes the history of slavery in the U.S.

The new curriculum actually states, "Instruction includes how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit," leading to countless critics accusing Harris of "brazenly lying," and "misleading" the American people.

Comment: Not the end of Kammie's pratfalls. RT reports:
US Vice President Kamala Harris listed reducing the population as one of the Biden administration's areas of green investment during a speech in Maryland on Friday. The White House has since claimed she misspoke.

"When we invest in clean energy and electric vehicles and reduce population, more of our children can breathe clean air and drink clean water," Harris told the audience at Baltimore's Coppin State University, to rapturous applause.

While Harris did not correct herself on stage, a White House transcript of the speech struck the word "population" and replaced it with "pollution."

The VP made the odd remark as she revealed the Biden administration had made $20 billion available for "community-based climate projects," with $12 billion of that earmarked for historically-disadvantaged areas - part of Washington's efforts to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050.

The funding will go to "a national network of nonprofits, community lenders, and other financial institutions to fund tens of thousands of climate and clean energy projects across America," Harris said. It was set aside for green energy initiatives under the Inflation Reduction Act as part of the Environmental Protection Agency's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

Harris' critics took aim at the alleged gaffe on social media, suggesting she was "saying the quiet part out loud," while critics of the man-made climate change hypothesis argued cutting population was its true aim.

"Are you the population she wants to reduce?" Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) asked his followers.

Commentators including Megyn Kelly and Fox's Harris Faulkner questioned Harris' fitness to succeed President Joe Biden after the VP stumbled through multiple public appearances earlier this week.

During a Wednesday panel discussion on AI at the White House, she informed the panelists that the technology was "kind of a fancy thing," telling the assembled experts, "First of all, it's two letters. It means artificial intelligence," before embarking on a rambling attempt to explain machine learning. During a roundtable on transportation for people with disabilities the same day, she observed, "the issue of transportation is fundamentally about just making sure that people have the ability to get where they need to go." Both comments were widely mocked on social media.
Politics must induce brain damage. Harris is almost two decades younger than Biden (58 vs 80), but seems just as inept. It's scary.

Best of the Web: Korybko: Russia's surgical strike on the Moldovan-Romanian-Ukrainian tri-border sent several messages

Moldovan-Romanian-Ukrainian tri-border
Not only did Russia hit closer to NATO than ever, but that bloc didn't even try to stop it, thus suggesting that they're reluctant to get dragged even deeper into this proxy war.

Russia carried out a surgical strike early Monday morning against targets in the town of Reni on the Ukrainian side of the Danube River near the tri-border with Moldova and Romania. This video alleges to show one of the explosions at its port while this image purports to be of a grain warehouse that was supposedly destroyed in the aftermath. It can't be ruled out that military and/or terrorist assets were hidden there, however, since Russia insists that it doesn't strike purely civilian infrastructure.

In any case, Monday morning's surgical strike was very important since it sent several messages that Russia's opponents would do well to heed. For starters, Reni is located on the other side of the Danube from NATO-member Romania, which demonstrated that Russia will hit targets anywhere in Ukraine and can do so with maximum precision. Those military and/or terrorist assets based on the literal border of that bloc but just outside of Article 5's jurisdiction can no longer take their security for granted.

Western bureaucracy affected Kiev's counteroffensive - UK expert

Ukraine's much-anticipated counteroffensive against Russia was undercut by delays in Western military assistance and bureaucracy, a British military expert claimed in an article released on Sunday. He also warned that the West "will pay the price" unless it ditches its "peacetime approach" to aiding Ukraine.

Writing for The Observer, Jack Watling, a senior research fellow for land warfare at the Royal United Services Institute, claimed the West had made a number of serious mistakes in setting the stage for Ukraine's counteroffensive, which so far has failed to gain any ground, according to Moscow.

According to Watling, Ukraine clearly communicated to Western capitals what it needed to succeed on the battlefield as early as last year, requesting artillery, engineering capability, protected mobility, air defense systems, and personnel training. However, while Kiev received sufficient artillery and protected mobility, it had a much harder time getting other items on the list, he said.

Court: FBI improperly used surveillance powers on US Senator

DOJ seal
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FSIC) accused the FBI of improperly using surveillance powers to search for information on a U.S. senator, a state lawmaker and a state judge.

The violations were revealed in a redacted version of the FISC's 2023 Section 702 certification opinion released Friday by the office of the Director of National Intelligence. Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act only permits the government to conduct targeted surveillance of foreign people located outside the U.S., with the assistance of electronic communication service providers, to acquire foreign intelligence information.

There have been reports of the FBI abusing Section 702 to search for information on suspects connected to the events of Jan. 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol, and on those involved in the George Floyd protests in 2020.

Update: The Zaporozhiya Nuclear Plant: Zelenskiy's next simulacra?

Explosion
© Unknown
To update my original article "The Zaporozhiya Nuclear Power Plant: Zelenskiy's Next Simulacara" it is worth noting the following points:

First, there has been no incident, obviously, at the plant either of Russian origin, as Ukrainian president Volodomyr Zelenskiy claimed was being planned, or of Ukrainian origin, as I argued was possible and the Russians claimed was almost certain in response to the Ukrainian claims. However, there was, as I suspected, clearly another Ukrainian fake, another Zelenskiy simulacra, since there was not 'Russian nuclear terrorist attack and since the IAEA came out and refuted the Ukrainians' claims that the Russians had planted explosives at the Zaporozhiya plant.

Second, it appears that this particular Zelenskiy simulacra was an effort to push the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive out of the headlines on the eve of NATO's Vilnius summit. It may be that, as some sources report, that European leaders intervened to prevent the Ukrainians from following through on their supposedly planned false flag.

Third, it is astonishing how the Western media and Western governments, which were heavy breathing in its hard work of repeating the Kiev Maidan regime's talking point about the 'imminent Russian nuclear terrorism, have shoved the entire episode of Zelenskiy's 'Russian nuclear terrorist attack' into the bottomless 'memory whole' that serves this war.

Mental health round-ups: The next phase of the government's war on thought crimes

1984 screenshot

"There are no dangerous thoughts; thinking itself is a dangerous activity."
— Hannah Arendt
Get ready for the next phase of the government's war on thought crimes: mental health round-ups and involuntary detentions.

Under the guise of public health and safety, the government could use mental health care as a pretext for targeting and locking up dissidents, activists and anyone unfortunate enough to be placed on a government watch list.

If we don't nip this in the bud, and soon, this will become yet another pretext by which government officials can violate the First and Fourth Amendments at will.

This is how it begins.

In communities across the nation, police are being empowered to forcibly detain individuals they believe might be mentally ill, based solely on their own judgment, even if those individuals pose no danger to others.

In New York City, for example, you could find yourself forcibly hospitalized for suspected mental illness if you carry "firmly held beliefs not congruent with cultural ideas," exhibit a "willingness to engage in meaningful discussion," have "excessive fears of specific stimuli," or refuse "voluntary treatment recommendations."

Biden names CIA Director William Burns to his cabinet

U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday said he had asked CIA Director William Burns to become a member of his cabinet, elevating one of his closest advisers on national security and foreign policy.

"Under his leadership, the CIA is delivering a clear-eyed, long-term approach to our nation's top national security challenges," Biden said in a statement, referring to Burns' approach to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and U.S. competition with China.

The move was reported earlier by the Washington Post, which said it was largely symbolic and would not give Burns any new authorities.

Bonnie Glaser, head of the Indo-Pacific program at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, said the appointment reflected Biden's confidence in Burns and his career experience.

Burns, who became the first career diplomat to lead the CIA in 2021, "has made a significant contribution to national security decision-making, especially with regard to Russia and China" Glaser said.

Comment: One of those 'security challenges' would be Biden and son. Pays to have the CIA in-pocket.

FBI Biden bribery file released: Burisma head says he was 'coerced' into paying Bidens $10 million

Then-Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden allegedly "coerced" Burisma co-founder and CEO Mykola Zlochevsky into paying them millions of dollars each in exchange for pressuring the Ukrainian government to fire prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who was investigating the company.

The accusations are contained in unclassified FBI documents that were released on Thursday by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA). Grassley obtained the FBI-generated FD-1023 from "legally protected disclosures by Justice Department whistleblowers," he said in a statement.

Zlochevsky allegedly told the FBI's confidential human source (CHS) that during a meeting in August 2016 it cost him "5 (million) to pay one Biden, and 5 (million) to another."

Comment: More from Newsweek:
New details from a previously redacted FBI document claim that the owner of Ukrainian gas company Burisma thought Hunter Biden was dumber than his dog.

Meetings with the FBI informant

In 2016, Zlochevsky met with an FBI informant at an outdoor coffee shop in Vienna, Austria, discussing the feasibility of Burisma acquiring a U.S.-based entity.

An unidentified individual also at the meeting said the conversation occurred around the same time that Joe Biden made public statements about now-former Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin being corrupt, saying that he should be fired or removed from office.

Zlochevsky was told, according to the document, that Shokin's public investigation into Burisma would have negative effects on Burisma's IPO. The Burisma owner replied: "Don't worry, Hunter will take care of all of those issues through his dad."

Numerous media outlets reported that Shokin investigated but never sought to prosecute Burisma. Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent testified in Trump's first impeachment inquiry that Shokin was corrupt and that the U.S. and its allies made a coordinated effort to remove him from his position.

When it was suggested that Zlochevsky/Burisma pay an attorney $50,000 to litigate the matter, Zlochevsky laughed at the thought, saying: "It costs $5 [million] to pay one Biden, and $5 [million] to another Biden," the document says. The informant said at the time that it was unverified whether such alleged payments were already made.

Then, when told that "some normal U.S. oil and gas advisors" should be hired due to the Bidens' lack of experience, Zlochevsky reportedly said that Hunter Biden "was stupid, and his [Zlochevsky's] dog was smarter."

Other conversations between the informant and Zlochevsky took place in 2016 and 2017, continuing until a final call in 2019.

BRICS problems, BRI solutions

BRICS
© The Cradle
As the BRICS approach the most important summit in their history on August 22-24 in Johannesburg, South Africa, some fundamentals need to be observed.

The top three BRICS cooperation platforms are politics and security, finance and the economy, and culture. So the notion that a new BRICS gold-backed reserve currency will be announced at the South Africa summit is spurious.

What is in progress, as confirmed by BRICS sherpas, is the R5: a new common payment system. The sherpas are only in the preliminary stages of discussing a new reserve currency which could be gold or commodities-based. The discussions within the Eurasia Economic Union (EAEU), led by Sergey Glazyev, by comparison, are way more advanced.

The order of priorities is to get R5 rolling. All current BRICS currencies start with an "R": renminbi (yuan), ruble, real, rupee, and rand. R5 will allow current members to increase mutual trade by bypassing the US dollar and reducing their US dollar reserves. This is only the first of many practical steps in the long and winding road of de-dollarization.

An expanded role for the New Development Bank (NDB) - the BRICS bank - is still being discussed. The NDB may, for instance, grant loans denominated in BRICS gold - making it a global unit of account in trade and financial transactions. BRICS exporters will then have to sell their goods against BRICS gold, instead of US dollars, as much as importers from the collective west would have to be willing to pay in BRICS gold.

The key points from Putin's Africa vision

putin africa leaders summit moscow russia
© Evgeniy Biyatov / RIA NovostiRussian President Vladimir Putin meets with African leaders in St. Petersburg, Russia, June 17, 2023
The Russian leader reflected on the "trust and mutual support" between Moscow and African countries

President Vladimir Putin has shared his views on how Russia and Africa should unite their efforts in pushing for global "peace, progress, and a successful future," in an article released ahead of the Russia-Africa Summit in St. Petersburg.

Africa has "rightful place" in deciding the world's fate

The Russian president said that Moscow's relations with African states have "strong, deep roots and have always been distinguished by stability, trust and goodwill." Moscow has "consistently supported African peoples in their struggle for liberation from colonial oppression" and "provided assistance in developing statehood, strengthening their sovereignty and defense capability," he wrote. "We are sure that a new multipolar world order, the contours of which are already visible, will be more just and democratic."

Comment: Some quotes from the Kremlin's statement:
Much has been done to create sustainable foundations for national economies. By the mid-1980s, with the participation of our specialists, over 330 large infrastructure and industrial facilities have been built in Africa, such as power plants, irrigation systems, industrial and agricultural enterprises, which are successfully operating to this day, and continue to make a significant contribution to the continent's economic development. Tens of thousands of African doctors, technical specialists, engineers, officers and teachers have received education in Russia.

I would like to specifically mention the traditionally close cooperation on the world stage, the firm and consistent advocacy rendered by the USSR and then Russia to African countries at international fora. We have always strictly adhered to the "African solutions to African problems" principle, standing in solidarity with Africans in their struggle for self-determination, justice and their legitimate rights. We have never tried to impose on partners our own ideas about the internal structure, forms and methods of management, development goals and ways to achieve them. Unchanged remains our respect for the sovereignty of African states, their traditions and values, their desire to independently determine their own destiny and freely build relationships with partners.

[...]

Russia welcomes the rising international authority of individual states as well as Africa as a whole, their desire to make their voices strongly heard and to take the continent's problems into their own hands. We have always supported the constructive initiatives of our partners. We stand for granting African countries their rightful place in the structures that determine the world's fate, including the UN Security Council and the G20, as well as for reforming the global financial and trade institutions in a way that meets their interests.

[..]

I would like to note with satisfaction that Russia's trade turnover with the African countries increased in 2022 and reached almost 18 billion US dollars. However, we are all well aware that the potential of our trade and economic partnership is much higher. Russian companies are interested in working more actively on the continent in the sphere of high technologies and geological exploration, in the fuel and energy complex, including nuclear power, in the chemical industry, mining and transport engineering, agriculture and fishery. The changes taking place in the world require the search for solutions related to the establishment of new transport and logistical chains, the formation of a monetary and financial system, and mechanisms of mutual settlements that are safe and free from unfavourable external impacts.
And unlike the perfidious West, the nations of Africa may rely on Russia's word.
