Rand Paul slams virologists who warned of "shit show" if COVID lab-leak theory wasn't shut down

It's "so completely documented that they were lying to us."

In an interview Monday, Senator Rand Paul took aim at several virologists who apparently agreed that pursuing evidence concerning a Coronavirus lab leak in Wuhan would cause a "shit show" of problems with China, and that it was better to dismiss the notion out of hand.

"This was never about science. This was about the business of science. It was about the money," Paul urged.

The Senator added, "Follow the money trail, and you see millions of dollars exchanging hands in the first few months of 2020 to the people who came out and said 'nothing to see here couldn't have happened in the lab'."

Last week during a House Oversight Committee hearing, a report was shared containing messages from 2020 between British virologist Dr. Andrew Rambaut and Drs. Kristian Andersen, Edward Holmes and Robert Garry.

House Republicans continue to investigate whether the Biden family used the influence then-Vice President Joe Biden had in the White House to elicit foreign business deals

Devon Archer, a former best friend and business associate of Hunter Biden in Ukraine, is expected to testify under oath to Congress this week that President Biden met with dozens of Hunter's business associates while he was serving as vice president between 2009 and 2017.

Fox News Digital has confirmed that Archer has been subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee and could testify as early as Thursday, July 27. The expected testimony could cast further doubt on President Biden's repeated claims that he had no knowledge of his son's foreign business dealings or of having any influence on them.

Miranda Devine, a New York Post columnist and Fox News contributor, reported Monday that Archer, 48, is expected to tell the House Oversight Committee about meetings he witnessed attended by both Bidens — Hunter and Joe — either in person or via telephone. During the meetings, Hunter would specifically introduce his father to foreign business partners or prospective investors, Archer is expected to testify.

Putin signs law banning 'sex change' in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill banning sex reassignment surgeries into law on Monday. The legislation, aimed at tighter regulation of what MPs described as the "transgender industry," bans legal sex changes and medical interventions associated with transitioning except due to serious medical grounds.

Administration of drugs and surgeries associated with gender reassignment therapy will now only be permitted in cases that require treatment of reproductive organ deformities in children. Only licensed clinics linked to the Russian Health Ministry can now make decisions on such treatments and issue relevant certificates, the legislation says.

People can also no longer freely change their sex on IDs and other documents. Those who did so may not adopt children under the new law. Married couples can also have their marriages declared invalid if one of the spouses changes their sex.

Ukraine is importing diesel from Hungary and Turkey and growing more dependent on the supplies from these two countries, though they mainly process oil from Russia at their refineries, German newspaper Handelsblatt reported Monday, citing Ukrainian customs.

The revelation highlights that as Ukraine is calling on countries to boycott Russia and after Europe severed its energy ties with it, the main party in the conflict, Kiev, is still using energy from Moscow.

Companies that do not receive oil from Russia, meanwhile, are losing market share in Ukraine, the report revealed.

Hungarian oil and gas company MOL has a competitive advantage over other European oil and gas companies, as it has special permission from the European Union to continue supplying Russian oil, the report added.

Speaking with Fox News, the Democrat presidential candidate said allegations surrounding President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden about allegedly accepting $5 million in bribes are worth "a real investigation."

"I think the issues are now coming up are worrying enough that we really need a real investigation of what happened," Kennedy said. "I mean, these revelations about the, where you had Burisma, which is, you know, a notoriously corrupt company that paid out, apparently, $10 million to Hunter and his dad. If that's true, then it is really troubling."

Governor Newsom threatens California school board for rejecting new social studies textbook UPDATE: School board caves after threats of $1.5 million fine from Newsom

School board banned "critical race theory" in December of 2022, but said I t did not "ban" a book, but instead decided not to adopt a new social studies curriculum.

In response to the Temecula Unified School Board's decision not to adopt a controversial social studies textbook in May, California Gov. Gavin Newsom challenged the board's decision and threatened it with legislative consequences if it does not reverse course.

The school board, which banned "critical race theory" in December of 2022, detailed how it did not "ban" a book, but instead decided not to adopt a new social studies curriculum, and that an alternative curriculum compliant with state standards is being presented on July 18, 2023. Furthermore, the school board also stated claims by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond that "the school district is slated to begin the school year on August 14, 2023 without enough textbooks for every student" is "categorically false."

Comment: More from Advocate:
California Gov. Gavin Newsom says the state will buy students in Temecula a social studies textbook that the school board rejected because the accompanying teachers' materials mentioned gay politician Harvey Milk and that California will fine the district.
...

In May, the board for the Temecula Valley Unified School District in Southern California voted to reject a curriculum that included the elementary-school textbook Social Studies Alive! The book itself does not mention Milk, the first out gay public official elected in California, but the supplemental materials for teachers do. They are also available to students in upper grades.

At the time of the vote, the board president called Milk a sexual predator. "My question is, why even mention a pedophile?" Dr. Joseph Komrosky said.

But Milk was not a pedophile. Komrosky was apparently referring to a relationship between Milk and Jack McKinley, which began when Milk was in his early 30s and McKinley was 16. When the two met in New York, the age of consent in that state was 14, and McKinley had turned 18 when the pair moved to California. Komrosky later said he didn't think any relationship between a 33-year-old and a 16-year-old was appropriate, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

Newsom was quick to criticize Komrosky, tweeting at the time that the board president's remark about Milk was "an offensive statement from an ignorant person," and California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced an investigation of the district. California requires schools to teach LGBTQ-inclusive history.
UPDATE: From the Post Millennial:
The Temecula Valley Unified School District's board originally ruled 3-2 against using an updated textbook, Social Studies Alive!, but reversed course after Gov. Gavin Newsom threatened to fine them $1.5 million for failing to adhere to a 2011 California law that requires schools to teach students about LGBTQ historical figures.

According to Fox News, the TVUSD approved the textbook at a meeting on Friday, but asked the interim superintendent to look over parts that deal with gay rights and the legal fight for same-sex marriage in California with the goal of "substituting age appropriate curriculum" that is "consistent with the board's commitment to exclude sexualized topics of instruction from elementary school grade levels" while still adhering to state law.

During the meeting, Board President Joseph Komrosky lamented the fact that the TVUSD was at risk of being sued by the government for not implementing a particular curriculum, but stated that his decision to reconsider the ruling was not made out of fear, but rather just to avoid the burden of a lawsuit. Adoption of the textbook passed unanimously the second time around.

Lithuania calls on EU to 'simplify' Ukrainian grain exports through Baltic States to cope with fall out of West's sabotage of Grain Deal

Lithuania has called on the European Commission to strengthen the grain export route from Ukraine through the Baltic States.

Source: Lithuanian Foreign Ministry in a joint letter by Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, Transport and Communications Minister Marius Skuodis and Agriculture Minister Kęstutis Navickas

Details: Lithuanian ministers said that the route between Ukraine and the Baltic states could become a "viable and long-term alternative" for Ukraine's grain exports.

They believe that improving the grain corridor's infrastructure and simplifying transshipment between different railways will help increase throughput.

Comment: Or the West could just honour its side of the Black Sea Grain deal and the normal, fast and cost effective shipping could resume? Because the method proposed by Lithuania is likely to be slower and much more costly, which will result in even higher grain prices; potentially prohibitively high for some.

Also, what are the chances that this 'simplification' will cause the checks at the borders to become more lax, and thus more porous? Because we know that weapons have already made their way from Ukraine to as far as Africa, and that Ukraine has been using bordering nations to ship in their munitions; and this point is particularly notable considering recent developments: Korybko: Russia's surgical strike on the Moldovan-Romanian-Ukrainian tri-border sent several messages

A total of 12 Norwegian government ministries have been hit by a cyber attack that prompted formation of a crisis staff nearly two weeks ago. The government minister overseeing response to the attack called it "extremely serious" but stressed that the government's work is otherwise "proceeding as normal."

Sigbjørn Gjelsvik, the minister in charge of municipal governments, said at a press conference Monday morning that the ministries' security and service organization DSS was working closely with the national security authority NSM. "They have set up a series of measures to handle the attack, and we're following the situation closely," Gjelsvik said.

Comment: It's notable that this comes ahead of an election, and with Norway's politicians acknowledging that they're a 'digitalized country', because we know that elections can and have been rigged via digital and online voting (in addition to traditional methods of fraud, such as stuffing the ballots):
