Hezbollah watches on as Gaza war sparks fear of additional fronts for Israel to defend

Israeli soldiers battled Hamas fighters in the streets of Israel's south on Sunday and exchanged strikes with Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group in the north, while Israel's retaliation strikes leveled buildings in Gaza. The prospect of Hezbollah joining the fighting a day after an unprecedented surprise attack from Gaza raised the chances of a broader conflict.
After more than 12 hours of ongoing terror and rocket attacks by Palestinian terrorists from Gaza in Israeli communities in the south, Israeli civilians along the country's northern border - close to Lebanon - slept uneasily on Saturday night, fearing a similar attack by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah.

On Sunday morning, even as Israeli forces continued to battle Hamas fighters near Gaza, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing shots into a disputed area known as Mount Dov. Israel retaliated by striking Hezbollah infrastructure, according to the IDF spokesperson, including taking out two tents that the terrorist group erected there in June.

Amir Avivi, CEO of the Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF), told Fox News Digital that he was surprised that Hamas's attack on Saturday was not coordinated with Hezbollah or that Hezbollah did not take advantage of the events unfolding to also attack Israel.

Comment:
Is all this just a pretext for a larger military conflict with Iran for example or any other Arab country in the Middle East? Will this be another 9/11, and will they accuse Iran of the support and logistics of the attack on Israel the same way the USA accused Afghanistan of 9/11 and later Iraq of possession of WMD which was never found?
Israel declares war after Hamas surprise attack, launches retaliatory airstrikes in Gaza

Israel's security cabinet officially declared war Saturday night after Hamas terrorists launched a surprise barrage of thousands of rockets into southern Israel, killing hundreds and wounding thousands, according to Israeli media.

Israeli soldiers battled Hamas fighters in the streets of southern Israel a day after Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists invaded the area and launched rockets from the Gaza Strip, killing at least 600 Israelis and wounding at least 2,000 others.

Israeli forces launched retaliatory strikes against Hamas terrorists in Gaza on Sunday, while also trading fire with Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group in the north.

Israel struck 426 targets in Gaza, blasting residential buildings to the ground, including a 14-story tower that held dozens of apartments as well as Hamas offices in central Gaza City. Israeli forces fired a warning just before the strike.

Among the 313 killed in Gaza were 20 children, and close to 2,000 wounded, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, Israel's northern border came under attack Sunday as Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets and shells at three Israeli positions in a disputed area along the border. Israel's military returned fire using armed drones.

During Saturday's incursion, Hamas fighters reportedly captured women, children and the elderly. Israeli military officials confirmed that a "substantial" number of Israelis were abducted Saturday without giving an exact figure.

An Egyptian official told the Associated Press,
"It's clear that they have a big number — several dozens" of hostages.
The official said Palestinian leaders claimed that they don't yet have a "full picture" of hostages, and those who were brought into Gaza were taken to "secure locations" across the territory.

Hamas terrorists claim to have taken enough Israeli hostages to free all the thousands of Palestinian prisoners being held in Israel on Sunday.

On Saturday night, Israel's security cabinet voted to officially go to war, unlocking "significant military activities," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced, according to the Times of Israel. It is Israel's first declaration of war since the Yom Kippur War in 1973.

Netanyahu had earlier declared war following the surprise attack on Israel, vowing that Hamas "will pay an unprecedented price." He warned, "This war will take time. It will be difficult."

Deputy head of the Hamas political bureau, Saleh al-Arouri, told Al-Jazeera TV that it had planned for a long fight.
"We are prepared for all options, including all-out war," al-Arouri, said. "We are ready to do whatever is necessary for the dignity and freedom of our people."

The Biden administration "unequivocally" condemned terrorist organization Hamas on Saturday amid its unprecedented and "appalling" assaults against Israel. President Biden and senior administration officials stressed that the United States "stands with Israel."
Israel strikes Lebanon after Hezbollah hits Shebaa Farms

Israel fired barrages of artillery into southern Lebanon on Sunday after Hezbollah targeted three Israeli military positions in the disputed Shebaa Farms.

There were no immediate reports of casualties. The cross-border fire comes a day after a surprise attack by Palestinian gunmen on Israeli towns left at least 250 Israelis dead, with another 230 Gazans killed in Israel's retaliatory bombardment.

Hezbollah, a powerful armed party backed by Iran, said it had launched guided rockets and artillery onto three posts in the Shebaa Farms "in solidarity" with the Palestinian people.

The Israeli military said on Sunday it fired artillery into an area of Lebanon where cross-border mortar fire was launched. "IDF (Israel Defence Forces) artillery is currently striking the area in Lebanon from where a shooting was carried out," it said.

Israel's military said one of its drones struck a Hezbollah post in the area of Har Dov, an area in Shebaa.

Israel has held the Shebaa Farms, a 39 sq km patch of land, since 1967. Both Syria and Lebanon claim the Shebaa Farms are Lebanese.

The United Nations peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon did not immediately respond to a request for comment. On Saturday, it said it had enhanced its presence in southern Lebanon following developments in Israel and Gaza, including its operations to counter rocket launches.

Hezbollah, which effectively controls southern Lebanon, said Saturday it was in "direct contact" with leaders of Palestinian "resistance" groups and that it saw Palestinian attacks on Israel as a "decisive response to Israel's continued occupation and a message to those seeking normalisation with Israel".

Nord Stream syndrome: One year on, EU states and the US collude to sweep the pipeline attacks under the rug

It's been more than a year since one of the biggest pieces of energy infrastructure in Europe was destroyed in what can only be described as a terror attack. One would imagine that no stone would be left unturned to investigate a crime of such magnitude and attribute responsibility.

You would also think that the countries that stood to lose most from Nord Stream's destruction would be at the forefront of these investigations. Well, welcome to the Europe of 2023 where, in a weird case of Stockholm syndrome, it seems neither the alleged perpetrator nor indeed one of the main victims wants any more "trouble" when it comes to Nord Stream. The consensus is to let sleeping dogs lie, and considering the evidence of US involvement in the attack, that's entirely unsurprising.

On September 26, 2022, the world's news feeds erupted with reports of the powerful explosions which tore the landmark Russian-German gas pipelines apart, dealing a devastating blow to Berlin's, and by extension the entire EU's, energy security. Within a couple of days, Western media had seemingly solved the mystery. Publications such as Politico eagerly proclaimed that "Everything is pointing to Russia," embracing the utterly delusional anti-logic that would make it plausible that Russia would destroy a piece of its own energy infrastructure that had been bringing it steady income. This reality, widely accepted by objective, nonaligned observers, was however lost on a slew of NATO-, US-, and EU-aligned commentators and officials. A mere four days after the explosions, US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told the BBC that it "seems" Russia was behind the destruction of its own multibillion-dollar investment.

When we roll the clock forward to today, it is now patently clear that Western media have been tasked with memory-holing the entire Nord Stream affair, with Germany, Sweden, and Denmark quietly conducting separate "investigations" which conveniently exclude Russian officials while also remaining strangely low-key in Western newsfeeds. These obviously declawed investigations continue as it is increasingly accepted in the West that Russia had nothing to do with the sabotage, it now being obvious that the US and/or a proxy partner were actually behind this terror attack on European soil. More than a year after these attacks, it's apparent that the manner in which this reality has been suppressed is possibly more sinister than the attack itself.

No, the Hamas invasion was not an Israeli 'Intelligence Failure'

Palestine

One would have to be almost hopelessly naïve to buy the corporate state media line that the Hamas invasion yesterday morning was an Israeli "intelligence failure."

Mossad is one of, if not the, most powerful intelligence agencies on the planet. It routinely shares intelligence, furthermore, with the "Five Eyes" intelligence services.

It has its tentacles deep inside of every ally and foe of import. Its spies are littered across the Gaza Strip, which is an effective open-air prison into which goods do not flow but for the blessing of the Israeli state. The Gaza Strip is arguably the most heavily surveilled geographic area on Earth.

The Hamas invasion of Southern Israel yesterday was an operation involving tens of thousands of operatives, at least, across land, sea, and air, using all manner of equipment and weaponry - drones, thousands of rockets, countless firearms, and even bulldozers that were positioned to knock down Israeli fencing.

And MSNBC and CNN would have you believe this was all a big "intelligence failure" by Mossad.

Flashback SOTT Focus: Observations from Occupied Palestine: Gaza

Part 1

Over the years since May 2007, I have lived in different areas of occupied Palestine, witnessing the crimes of the Zionist entity and sharing in the daily tragedies, injustices and realities of Palestinians' lives.

In the occupied West Bank in 2007, I volunteered with the ISM for eight months, during which time I was detained at a protest against a Jewish-only highway in the West Bank, arrested at a road-block removal action, and was finally deported and banned from occupied Palestine.

During those months, I was witness to the ugliest aspects of life under Zionist rule: attacks by illegal Jewish colonists (also armed) and by Zionist soldiers on Palestinian children, women, elderly; humiliating military checkpoints, some with zoo-like turnstiles, all which serve to delay or completely prevent Palestinians' movement; and raids and weeks-long lock-downs on Palestinian towns and cities, in which the Zionist army ransacks homes and usually abducts one or more member of the family, including children. There are currently 195 Palestinian children in Zionist prisons.

Hamas threatens to begin publicly executing hostages if Israel doesn't halt unrelenting Gaza strikes

Update(1350ET): Casualties in the Gaza Strip are soaring (at over 560 dead) after a full day of very heavy, frequent airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force. For the first time Monday, Israel says it has pacified the border, with a military spokesperson announcing, "There are no terrorists crossing the fence from Gaza into Israel." The confirmed death toll among Israelis is now over 900.

"Since this morning, there have been a few encounters with terrorists. There have been none at all in the last few hours," the military spokesman said. Israel earlier announced a full "siege" of Gaza, and there are signs a ground invasion could be imminent. Hamas and Gaza militants have announced holding at least 100 hostages, but now Hamas is threatening to execute them. Netanyahu on Sunday had warned Palestinian civilians to begin clearing out, but as some observers have noted, where will they go?

According to the latest from the Times of Israel on Hamas' new threat to kill more Israelis:
The Hamas terror group is threatening to begin executing hostages in response to Israeli strikes in Gaza carried out without warnings, the spokesperson for Hamas's Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades says, according to Gaza's Shehab news outlet.

"From this hour, any targeting of our people in the safety of their homes, without warning, will be met with the execution of civilian hostages, which will be broadcast with video and audio," says the spokesperson, who goes by the nom de guerre Abu Obeida.

A defense official reportedly told Knesset members in a briefing earlier in the day that Israel was not dropping dummy bombs on roofs of buildings set to be targeted, meant to warn civilians to flee.

Many of these hostages, foreigners among them, are believed to have been kidnapped from the Saturday music festival which had been taking place in the southern desert, near the border with Gaza.

Electricity, fuel and food will be cut off to the area, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has said...

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has announced a blockade of Gaza amid intense fighting between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas militants. It comes after the Palestinian group launched a massive assault against Israel on Saturday, killing and wounding hundreds of people.

"I have ordered a complete siege to the Gaza Strip," Gallant said following an assessment meeting at the IDF Southern Command on Monday. "There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed," he added, as quoted by the Times of Israel.

"We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly," the minister reportedly added, apparently referring to the Hamas militants who have taken control of parts of Gaza.

Israel's chief military spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, also stated on Monday that Israel had regained control of all towns on the Gaza border and that there is little to no fighting in the communities which were overrun by Hamas militants during the weekend's assault.

Scott Ritter: Are Hamas fighters using American weapons meant for Ukraine?

Throughout recent history, the perceived weapon of choice for a terrorist (or freedom fighter, depending on one's perspective) has been an AK-47 assault rifle. Today, in the aftermath of the so-called post-9/11 "global war on terror," it's not uncommon to see such fighters with a Glock 9mm pistol, or a Colt M4 carbine.

These are weapons paid-for by the US taxpayer and ostensibly provided to forces joined in the cause of defeating terrorists and/or freedom fighters (again, depending on the political beliefs of the observer), but that end up in the hands of the latter instead. Obviously, that is never the outcome Washington intends. And yet, somehow, these weapons end up arming the very forces the US and its allies are trying to defeat.

The most recent example of this phenomenon appears to involve Hamas and the attacks perpetrated by militants affiliated with that organization on military and civilian targets in southern Israel. A video, the authenticity of which has yet to be verified, purports to show a Hamas fighter thanking Ukraine for the provision of small arms, ammunition, and hand grenades. More videos, taken during the actual assaults, show the Hamas fighters armed with a plethora of US-made weapons.

Comment: Guns don't choose the lives they take. People do. Who has the power and mandate to send, divert or override weapon shipments specifically to Israel?

There can be few safer indicators of the views of the globalist "liberal" Establishment than reports of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, which prefers to be known as Chatham House.

Chatham House's principal funding comes from the UK, US, Canadian, German, Swiss, Japanese, Swedish and Norwegian governments, the World Bank and the EU, and from corporate "philanthropists" including IKEA, Bill Gates, George Soros, Carnegie Foundation, Ford Foundation, BP, Chevron, Shell, and ExxonMobil. I could go on.

In other words, Chatham House is absolutely rolling in the dosh controlled by states and the super wealthy. It is headquartered in the palatial residence of the imperial expansionist Prime Minister William Pitt, and has expanded out over time into two great adjoining mansions.

(In 2022 it also, despite all the petroleum bungs, received its largest grant from the MAVA Foundation, a Swiss environmental charity, which was that year closing down and disbursing all its funds).

So Chatham House is a pretty infallible guide as to what those who control western "democracies" are thinking. And when it comes to Ukraine, what they are thinking is terrifying.

Chatham House has released a report which "makes the case for dramatically increased Western military assistance to Ukraine, and argues against concessions to Russia".

The report is organised as a list of nine "fallacies" which the authors are concerned that Russian propagandists have successfully insinuated into Western thinking, and sets out to refute each of them.

Americans get poorer as Washington throws cash at Ukraine and migrants

US families are undergoing a third-straight year of falling income, but politicians think taxpayer money is better spent elsewhere...

As Uncle Sam continues to pump billions of dollars into Kiev's flagging fight against Russia and provide tempting handouts to illegal migrants, why is the average American worker forced to live paycheck-to-paycheck?

Here's a question that most people have considered at least once in their lives, and probably a lot recently: How much annual income would you need to feel financially secure? For the average American, the magic number comes out to be $233,000 a year, according to a survey by Bankrate.

To bring the '99 percent' back down to Earth, the US Census Bureau released some sobering data that dashed those elusive six-digit dreams. Inflation-adjusted median household income fell to $74,580 in 2022 - a 2.3% decline from the 2021 average of $76,330. This marks the third-straight annual decrease since the Covid-19 pandemic began in 2020, taking a wrecking ball to the heart of the economy.

The bad news doesn't end there for US consumers, who are now struggling with the consequences of a foreign conflict in a distant land and a wide-open border. Those factors have prompted the cost of living to surge higher than it has in over four decades amid runaway inflation. In June 2022, the year-over-year inflation rate, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, hit a jaw-dropping 9.1%, the highest it's been since the administration of former President Ronald Reagan.

Comment: Damage done. Dire times ahead. This administration cannot leave too soon!

Israel bombs Hamas sites 'hidden in mosques' - IDF

West Jerusalem has alleged that the militant group was using places of worship in Gaza to direct attacks...

Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in an operational update early on Sunday, said:
"Fighter jets attacked two operational infrastructures that were located in mosques and were used by the terrorist organization Hamas to direct terror against the state of Israel."
The IDF claimed that Hamas was using the holy sites and the civilian population of Gaza to evade Israel's response to the surprise attacks launched by the group on Saturday.

Israel cut off electricity to the Palestinian territory and carried out dozens of airstrikes against Hamas after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was at war with the militant group. In a televised address on Saturday night, he vowed to "take revenge for this black day" and turn all of the sites used by Hamas in Gaza into "ruins."

"All the places that Hamas hides in, operates in, we will turn into ruins," Netanyahu said. He urged civilians in the area to "get out of there now."

Comment: Israel has come up with the perfect excuse to bomb Palestinian sacred places of worship.
