US sanctions will lead to demise of dollar - US Treasury Secretary

slika
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's recent remarks have ignited a heated debate about the future of the US dollar.

"The more sanctions the US imposes, the more countries (BRICS) will seek financial transaction methods that do not involve the US dollar," Yellen warned. This statement underscores a significant global economic shift, with profound implications for international trade, finance, and geopolitical power dynamics.

US Sanctions: A Double-Edged Sword

Sanctions have long been a tool of US foreign policy, aimed at exerting economic pressure on countries that contravene international norms or threaten US interests. Nations like Zimbabwe, Iran, and Russia have been on the receiving end of these measures. However, while sanctions can cripple economies and coerce governments, they also push targeted nations to seek alternatives to the US-dominated financial system.

Comment: In the same way that Israel will never recover its status, now that the world has seen its true nature, neither will the US, now that its weaknesses have been exposed in its failing proxy-war in Ukraine. And, as we can see in Israel, a failing pathological regime that fears a loss of dominance poses a deadly threat to global stability, and so perhaps turbulence associated with a shift in the financial system is the least of our worries.

Masoud Pezeshkian has said cooperation with Moscow will remain a priority throughout his term.

Iran's president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian has described Russia as "a valued strategic partner" and pledged to further strengthen relations with Moscow.

Pezeshkian, who will be inaugurated on July 30, set out his foreign policy priorities in an article entitled: 'My message to the new world', published by the Tehran Times on Friday.
"Russia is a valued strategic ally and neighbor to Iran and my administration will remain committed to expanding and enhancing our cooperation. China and Russia have consistently stood by us during challenging times. We deeply value this friendship."
Tehran will continue to "prioritize" relations with Russia both on a bilateral level and as part of international organizations such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Eurasian Economic Union, the president-elect stressed. Pezeshkian said his government would also "actively support" efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Comment: The West rarely keeps promises, as Iran is acutely aware.

A massive airstrikes in southern Gaza has left at least 90 dead and hundreds wounded, the Hamas health ministry has claimed.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday that it carried out an airstrike on "two senior Hamas terrorists and additional terrorists," who had allegedly been hiding among civilians in southern Gaza.

The attack was concentrated on al-Mawasi, a coastal area adjacent to the city of Khan Younis, which the IDF had previously designated as a "safe zone" for displaced people. The strike inflicted heavy civilian casualties, with at least 90 killed and nearly 300 injured, according to Gaza's health ministry.

Civil Defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP:
"There are still many bodies of martyrs scattered in the streets, under the rubble, and around the tents of the displaced that cannot be reached due to the heavy shelling of the [Israeli military] that targeted places and tents in the al-Mawasi."
The IDF said the "location of the strike was an open area surrounded by trees, several buildings, and sheds," sharing aerial photos of the compound before and after the attack. According to media reports citing eyewitnesses, the strike came in several waves, with multiple fighter jets and drones involved.

Comment: Rule Reversal: Netanyahu walks back key concession in Gaza ceasefire talks:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dropped one of the key concessions in ceasefire negotiations with the Palestinian militant group Hamas, refusing unrestricted access to the northern part of Gaza, CNN reported on Saturday, citing sources.

Now the Israeli PM wants armed individuals to be barred from returning to northern Gaza when the potential ceasefire kicks in. Previously, Israel agreed to allow unrestricted access to the northern part of the enclave, but now it wants the provision reversed for any kind of ceasefire or hostage deal with the group.

The new demand could jeopardize the negotiations, which have been dragging on for months and have so far failed to yield any result.

The development comes as Israel conducted a major airstrike in southern Gaza, with at least 70 killed and nearly 300 injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed it had targeted the top leadership of Hamas, including the head of its military wing, Mohammed Deif. The militant group disputes the claims, insisting West Jerusalem was merely trying to "cover up" its latest "horrific massacre."

Trump's Facebook, Instagram restrictions rolled back

The decision is aimed at allowing Americans to hear from all presidential election nominees, Meta said.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced on Friday it would lift its restrictions on content posted by former US President Donald Trump. While the former US president's accounts were unblocked 17 months ago, Meta had maintained limits on his ability to post.

"Former President Trump, as the nominee of the Republican Party, will no longer be subject to the heightened suspension penalties", the statement read. Meta claimed the penalties were imposed in response to "extreme and extraordinary circumstances."

Trump was booted from the platforms following the riot at the US Capitol in January 2021. Facebook's parent company announced in January 2023 that it would reinstate Trump's accounts but that he faced "heightened penalties for repeat offenses" as a way to "deter" a repeat of previous behavior.

Meta's president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, wrote in a blog post on Friday:
"American people should be able to hear from the nominees for President on the same basis."
Joe Biden's reelection campaign has condemned Meta's move.

Comment: Trump doesn't need Facebook. Facebook needs Trump.

Musk claims two attempts on his life were foiled

The billionaire made the claim shortly after Republican hopeful Donald Trump was shot and wounded during a campaign rally.

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has opened up about two alleged assassination attempts against him that have occurred over the past several months. The US-based billionaire made the comment on Saturday, hours after Republican hopeful Donald Trump was shot and wounded during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Several shots were fired as the former president delivered a speech to a campaign rally, with one of them grazing Trump's right ear. While the politician was whisked off stage by Secret Service agents, it emerged that the shooting had resulted in the death of one of the attendees and that two more were seriously injured. Authorities later reported that the 20-year-old suspected shooter, who had reportedly fired from a nearby rooftop, was shot and killed.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Musk wrote:
"Dangerous times ahead. Two people (separate occasions) have already tried to kill me in the past 8 months. They were arrested with guns about 20 mins drive from Tesla HQ in Texas."
He made the statement in response to an X user asking the outspoken tycoon to "please triple your protection," arguing that "if they can come for Trump they will also come for you."

NATO state's president suggests path to peace for Ukraine

Pavel

Kiev should be armed to the maximum to deter Russia from attempting further territorial gains, the Czech Republic's Petr Pavel has said.

The West can put an end to the Ukraine conflict by giving Kiev all the weapons it needs, Czech President Petr Pavel has argued, claiming that this will convince Russia that it cannot make further progress on the battlefield.

Back in May, Pavel - who previously served as chairman of NATO's Military Committee - told Sky News:
"It would be naive to say that Ukraine can fully restore the control over the territories in the foreseeable future. Russia will not give up the territory it is occupying now."
The Czech president also predicted that "there might be some kind of a compromise" during future peace negotiations, and that ending the conflict could pave the way for "talk about the potential membership of Ukraine" in NATO.

On Friday, the Seznam Zpravy news outlet quoted Pavel as saying Russia has more resources than Ukraine, so no quick breakthroughs on the frontline are likely, despite Western support. The Czech head of state, however, insisted that such efforts should continue - providing Kiev with all the weaponry it needs, to make Russia realise it cannot make further gains, and start negotiating.

Comment: Pavel believes NATO aggression dementia. Russia has been willing to end the war it never wanted.

Trump assassination attempt - America Teeters on the Abyss

Trump assassination attempt
A remarkable photo captured by my former White House Press Corps colleague Doug Mills. Zoom in right above President Trump's shoulder and you'll see a bullet flying in the air to the right of President Trump's head following an attempted assassination.
Well, the nightmare scenario we've predicted for a long time is slowly unraveling.

Trump was just shot at his rally in Butler, PA by a rooftop sniper, who is claimed to be an Antifa terrorist, though I haven't seen full corroboration of that yet.

The second victim now announced as deceased was a woman somewhere in the stands behind Trump. An off-duty surgeon confirmed a victim in the stands was hit in the head and had 'brain matter' scattered, which points to a high powered caliber.

Law group says a trove of Biden docs details how DHS planned to crack down on conservative voices

DHS seal
America First Legal (AFL) made public a trove of documents that reveal a coordinated effort within the Biden administration to crack down on the free speech of its political opponents, according to the conservative law group.

AFL obtained the documents through legal action taken against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) over its now-defunct Homeland Intelligence Experts Group. The group coordinated with an advisory body led by former intelligence officials John Brennan and James Clapper on ways to combat "domestic terrorism," which includes cracking down on political dissent, according to AFL.
"The American people need to read these records and our exposé of the Biden Administration's efforts to further weaponize the government to achieve their objectives. This 'committee,' stacked with the Administration's allies, was formed in violation of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, and we were proud to have stopped its activities. Now, it is up to Congress to stop the Biden Administration from further using these same actors to advance their radical agenda at the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis,"
America First Legal Executive Director Gene Hamilton said in a statement.

The political realists meet: Hungary's Orban ditched NATO summit for a visit with Donald Trump

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has long admired Donald Trump

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban departed the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., on Thursday to meet with former President Trump in Florida, a source familiar with the meeting told Fox News Digital.

The New York Times first broke the story, citing a Trump campaign official and a person close to the former president. The report did not indicate what the pair would discuss at this impromptu meeting, but Orban has crisscrossed the globe over the past week after assuming the role as president of the European Union.

Orban arrived in the U.S. this week to attend the multi-day NATO summit, which celebrates the 75th anniversary of the organization's founding and occurs at a time when members remain concerned about Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine and what the future holds for the broader European Union.

Comment: Orban seems so confident of Trump's alignment with his goals and support for his actions, he posted what amounted to a campaign ad for him:

The DNC horse-trading begins: Kamala Harris' star rises while Gavin Newsom's fades

kamala harris
Kamala Harris is currently the presumed successor if Joe drops out. This could change.
Vice President Kamala Harris nodded awkwardly along as the crowd at a campaign event in Las Vegas Tuesday greeted her with an exuberant chant of "Four more years! Four more years!"

In normal times, such a refrain from a room full of supporters while a vice president stumps for a second term would simply come with the territory. Yet, with Joe Biden's presidency hanging in the balance since his woeful June 27 debate performance, the words took on curious new meaning: Four more years for whom?

Hours before, more than 2,000 miles away back in Washington, divided House Democrats were conducting a rancorous meeting about Biden's future. Though Biden's critics inside the party have been unable to convince the president to step aside, one development did come into focus: If Biden relinquishes his hold on the presidency, or decides not to stand for reelection, the baton should be handed to Kamala Harris.

Comment: Should Harris emerge as the Dem candidate, she'd better buckle up for the torrent of video clips and sound bites that will come from the Trump campaign showing her unsuitability for high office, not to mention her general ineptness. The internet is littered with examples for the meme lords to draw upon.
