Brazil's Lula names those responsible for Ukraine conflict

Brazilian presidential frontrunner Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told Time magazine on Wednesday that he believes the Western narrative on the Ukraine crisis is simplistic and fails to reflect the reality behind the situation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is "as responsible as [Russian President Vladimir] Putin for the war," he outlined, insisting that there is never just one guilty party in a conflict. While arguing that the US President Joe Biden could have averted the crisis, Lula remarked:
Zelensky "could have said: 'Come on, let's stop talking about this NATO business, about joining the EU for a while. Let's discuss a bit more first. The United States has a lot of political clout. And Biden could have avoided [the conflict], not incited it."
Lula believes the privileged position handed Zelensky by all western politicians is unjustifiable, noting that while he sees
"the president of Ukraine, speaking on television, being applauded, getting a standing ovation by all the [European] parliamentarians, Zelensky is "as responsible as Putin for the war.

"You are encouraging this guy, and then he thinks he is the cherry on your cake. We should be having a serious conversation. OK, you were a nice comedian. But let us not make war for you to show up on TV."

West pressuring African countries, demanding to condemn Russia says Russian ambassador to Angola

Western countries are putting extreme pressure on African states to condemn Russia's actions in Ukraine, even resorting to threats, which is immoral. Russian Ambassador to Angola Vladimir Tararov told Sputnik:
"I know that they [Angolans] are under extreme pressure from Western countries, who call on them to condemn Russia. But they expressly behave in this way, saying that 'we will contribute to the establishment of peace, we will contribute with all our might so that agreements are reached between the parties.'"
The ambassador stressed that in its demands the West sometimes resorts to threats and blackmail, which is immoral. According to Tararov, the West is "threatening, blackmailing" the countries of Africa. And under this extraordinary pressure, African countries are "barely able to resist."

He also underscored that during the General Assembly vote to exclude Russia from the UN Human Rights Council on April 7:
"Many African countries voted neutrally, that is, they abstained. This means they did not support this resolution. But they did not dare to vote against it, because the pressure was extreme."

Comment: Where there is will, is there is a way?
Angola is prepared to search for ways to bypass anti-Russian sanctions, if necessary, in order to maintain cooperation with Russia. Russian Ambassador to Angola Vladimir Tararov verified:
"I have talked with Angolan government officials, they all understand what is going on and have said: 'we will be looking for alternative paths and using them where necessary.' I believe this has grounds, real opportunities for sidestepping the sanctions."
The ambassador noted that the cooperation between Russia and Angola cannot be threatened by the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Moscow and that the Angolans are interested in developing bilateral economic cooperation.

EU member states and several countries outside the bloc have sanctioned Russia for starting a military operation in Ukraine, which was at the request of the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics. The European Union is now drafting its sixth package of sanctions against Moscow, which, according to reports, may contain an oil embargo.

Angola lacks the infrastructure at the moment to replace Russia as a supplier of gas to Europe, Vladimir Tararov said. The ambassador noted the increase in the number of European officials, including ministers, arriving in Angola in a bid to bargain a deal. Tararov said:
"They are very concerned that they cannot agree on payments with Russia and, of course, they want to stock resources from other countries. They are trying to find an alternative and, among others, they have their eye on Angola. I would like to stress that Angola has potential capacities, but, you know, it lacks the infrastructure yet."
There is only one plant in Angola, which produces about 74.5 million cubic meters of gas annually, while Russia's daily output exceeds tens of billions of cubic meters, the ambassador said. Moreover, about two-thirds of Angola's gas output goes to the domestic market.
"Therefore, of course, they are not able to assist in the coming years. So, yes, it is promising, but for the future, and not in the coming years, although Americans and Europeans have already started working with them [Angola] to actively develop this industry."

Is the West waging war on disinformation or dissent?

As populism rises in the West, so do crackdowns on narratives that deviate from those of the state

When US President Joe Biden announced on April 27 that a new Disinformation Governance Board would serve the Department of Homeland Security, it was just the latest turn of the screw on freedom. This time, it's an affront to citizens' right to a diversity of information.

It's one thing to correct inaccurate information, but this new entity seems more oriented towards narrative-policing that cracks down on the interpretation of information rather than the accuracy of it. Headed by a former communications advisor to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Nina Jankowicz, one of the board's first responsibilities will be to address "disinformation coming from Russia as well as misleading messages about the US-Mexico border," according to CBS News. Interesting that these two issues - immigration and foreign conflicts - are currently viewed as two of Washington's most significant failures, which have given rise to populist dissent. Make no mistake, it's the dissent that's the ultimate target.

RT spoke to Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Russian Investigative Committee

Eight years after the outbreak of the conflict in the Donbass, innocent people continue to die. Russian investigators have been scrutinizing incidents that involve the killing of civilians. Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the country's Investigative Committee, spoke to RT about these efforts and the results so far.

RT: Mr. Bastrykin, for a long time now, the Russian Investigative Committee and RT have been involved in a joint project aimed at uncovering and detailing the war crimes committed by Ukraine against the people of the Donbass. Could you share some of the latest information with us? How much have the Russian investigators done over the years?

Over the past eight years, the Investigative Committee has initiated about 800 criminal cases in connection with the events in the Donbas and in Ukraine. The persons involved in these cases are members of Ukraine's military and political leadership, security forces and radical nationalist organizations. In total, 287 persons are subjects of our investigative work. Nearly half of them have been indicted.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has demanded the "strongest possible" retaliation to Russia's attack on Ukraine following meetings with officials in Warsaw and Kiev.

In comments after a sit-down with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Monday, Pelosi said Washington and its allies must escalate their efforts against Moscow, calling for the "strongest possible military response" and "the strongest sanctions" in order to "make the case that this is not tolerable."

"We shouldn't do anything less because of a threat from Russia," she continued, arguing that it had "already delivered" on that threat by attacking its neighbor.

The House speaker also noted that the US delegation "discussed the centrality of the US-Poland partnership in delivering security, economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine," as well as "the importance of bolstering the NATO alliance."

Finland and Sweden 'can count' on Germany for protection and NATO membership support

Chancellor Olaf Scholz expresses support for potential membership bids by both countries.

Finland and Sweden "can count" on Germany's support should they decide to join the NATO alliance, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Tuesday, adding that both countries were already benefitting from EU military protection in case of an attack.

Speaking at Schloss Meseberg, the chancellor's retreat north of Berlin, Scholz said that Russia's invasion of Ukraine violated "all legal agreements and understandings which we had found in Europe in the last decades ... and therefore nobody can be sure that the Russian president and the Russian government will not break international law and our agreements by force on another occasion."

Scholz, who was addressing reporters alongside Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her Swedish counterpart Magdalena Andersson, said that Germany was "following very closely" the debate in both countries about their potential accession to NATO, and added: "For us it is clear: If these two countries decide that they want to be part of the NATO alliance, then they can count on our support."

Washington hopes to re-establish its hyper-power thanks to the war in Ukraine

taiwain delegation World League for Freedom and Democracy (WLFD)
On January 23, 2022, the Taiwanese delegation hosted the annual convention of the World League for Freedom and Democracy (WLFD), the current name of the former World Anti-Communist League (WACL). The cold warriors are still there.
The evolution of the Russian military operation in Ukraine into a real war between Moscow and Washington has opened a Pandora's box. The objectives of the Westerners are adapting. It is no longer a question of defending the Banderites against Russia, but of weakening both sides (including the European Union) in order to restore the American hyper-power and its unipolar world.

The resurrection of the Cold Warriors

In two months, the Russian special military operation against the Banderites has turned into a real war between the Russians and the Donbass People's Republics on the one hand and the Nato-backed Ukrainians on the other.

A Ukrainian victory would be a blow against Russia and a Russian victory would mark the death of NATO. Neither of the two protagonists can back down. So all moves are allowed.

European Parliament drafts 'veto overhaul' following Hungary's possible dissent to not sanction Russia

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has urged the EU to make key decisions by a qualified majority, rather than seeking unanimous consent of its member states.

Draghi said that in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia's military campaign in Ukraine, the EU must learn to work more robustly and effectively.

"The geopolitical situation is undergoing rapid and profound change. We have to move, and move as quickly as possible," Draghi told the European Parliament on Tuesday.

Comment: 'Moving quickly' seems to be an increasingly common tactic by technocrats seeking to ram through tyrannical legislation; the contrived coronavirus crisis 'emergency laws' for lockdowns being one of the most egregious examples.

'A sulky liver sausage': Germany demands expulsion of Ukraine's ambassador for insulting Chancellor

Germany MP Sevim Dagdalen demands the expulsion of Ukraine's ambassador after he insulted Olaf Scholz.

German daily Die Welt reported that some Berlin officials have stood up for Chancellor Olaf Scholz after he was insulted by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, who called Scholz an "offended liverwurst".

Bundestag MP Sevim Dagdalen demanded the ambassador's expulsion from Germany, saying "Whoever doesn't expel the supporter of Nazism Melnyk now has lost all self-respect."

Comment: Daily Mail provides more details:
Ukraine's ambassador to Berlin called Germany's chancellor Olaf Scholz a 'sulky liver sausage' for hinting he won't visit Ukraine like other European leaders.

Mr Scholz suggested that he would not visit Kyiv after the German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier's offer to visit was rejected, he has also been accused by President Volodymyr Zelensky of having close ties to the Kremlin.

The relationship between Ukraine and Germany has been strained during Russia's invasion, as Mr Scholz has been criticised by Kyiv for weak sanctions against Putin and for a lack of military support.

Unlike much of the West, Germany has been comparatively restrained reasoning that under international law participating in certain actions could make it 'party' to the war on Russia.

'You can't do that,' Mr Scholz told ZDF, a German public broadcaster, on Monday.

'It can't work that when a country has provided so much military aid, so much financial aid — which is needed — when it's a question of the security guarantees that will be important to Ukraine in the future — you then say: But the president can't come.'

However Ukraine's envoy to Berlin, Andriy Melnyk, said: 'Acting like a sulky liver sausage doesn't sound very statesmanlike.

Steinmeier
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (pictured) has not visited Kyiv like many other European leaders, after his offer last month to meet with Zelensky was snubbed
Meanwhile Germany's conservative opposition leader Friedrich Merz visited Kyiv for meetings with Ukrainian officials.

He has previously accused Scholz of weak leadership and of 'procrastination, dithering and timidity'.

Last week Germany announced it would deliver anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine for the first time, which signalled a major shift in policy.

The Chairman of the German Christian Democratic Party (CDU) Friedrich Merz was in Irpin today

Their announcement that they could quit Russian oil by late summer, further highlighted a show of support for Ukraine.

Mr Scholz denied claims their response to Russia's invasion was hesitant: 'I've always made quick decisions, in tandem with everyone else... but my line is that we act in a level-headed and prudent manner.'

He insisted Germany is 'firmly by the side' of Ukraine, with officials citing their recent actions such as the suspension of Nord Stream 2 and additional military support.

He also vowed that sanctions would not be lifted until Putin signs a peace deal with Ukraine.

This week the European Commission is expected to propose their sixth package of sanctions against Russia.

Which may include a possible embargo on buying Russian oil - which Germany said on Monday it was prepared to back.

Ambassadors from EU countries will discuss the proposed oil sanctions on Wednesday.
And that's just what the Ukrainian puppets say in public; this also reflects just how subservient to the agenda European leaders are that they apparently have little choice but to take it: Zelensky is Not in Charge of Ukraine, Nazis Are - And They Believe They Are on a Mission From God to 'Derussify Ukraine in Holy War'
