Russian forces claim to have shot down nine Ukrainian drones over the Crimean port of Sevastopol on Sunday.

Russia's defense ministry said its forces had prevented Ukraine from attacking the Black Sea port of Sevastopol on Sunday, destroying seven aerial and two underwater drones.

"This morning, an attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack by seven unmanned aerial vehicles and two unmanned underwater vehicles on objects on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula near the city of Sevastopol was thwarted," the ministry said on the Telegram messaging app.

There were no casualties and no damage, the ministry added.

Musk: US 'debases itself' by sending cluster munitions to Ukraine

Moscow recently said the deliveries would make Washington an accomplice to civilian deaths

The US has 'debased' itself by supplying Ukraine with widely banned cluster munitions, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said, adding that the weapons will not have a significant impact on the conflict.

Writing on Twitter on Saturday, the billionaire said: "We have run out of normal ammunition to send Ukraine, so now send them cluster bombs in desperation, debasing ourselves with no change to the outcome."

Musk praised the efforts of the 98 House Republicans and 49 Democrats who voted to ban the transfer of cluster munitions to Ukraine, but ultimately failed to make a difference. "Thank you for trying to stop this debasement of America," he said.

House passes defense bill with restrictions on abortions, sex changes, and diversity initiatives

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy
The House GOP successfully added provisions to the Defense Authorization Act, adding limits on abortion, sex changes, and diversity training in the military. The vote passed 219 to 210.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy praised the provisions, saying that the GOP did "exactly what we had said we would do" in using provisions in the bill to force the Biden administration to "stop using taxpayer money to do their own wokeism."

"A military cannot defend themselves if you train them in woke," McCarthy said, per the New York Times.

Attempt by Kiev to invade Crimea would result in 'extermination of 200,000' of Ukraine's troops - former advisor to Zelensky

Aleksey Arestovich

Aleksey Arestovich says any invasion of Crimea would break Ukraine and its economy, adding that the country should negotiate peace in return for NATO membership.

Invading Crimea would be too costly for Kiev, a former advisor to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said this week.

The former advisor, Aleksey Arestovich, told Yulia Latynina, a Russian journalist, that such a campaign would lead to hundreds of thousands of casualties, adding that there are "few prospects" of taking over the Russian Peninsula via military means.

"What will be the cost? Extermination of 200,000 of the adult male population?" he rhetorically asked. Arestovich also warned that the event would lead to the total destruction of the Ukrainian economy.

Comment: Bearing in mind conservative estimates put Ukraine's military deaths at over 200,000 - and counting - and Kiev is already desperately rounding up conscripts from across its territory to send into what most analysts are now calling a 'meat grinder'.

Russia has right to mirror actions if Kiev uses cluster munitions - Putin

Putin

The Russian President underscores the significance of prioritizing humanitarian concerns and working toward a global ban on these indiscriminate weapons.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia has not yet used cluster munitions, adding that if such weaponry is used against Russian forces; Moscow reserves the right to respond in kind.

"Until now, we have not done this, we have not used it, and we did not have such a need, despite the known shortage of ammunition by us as well in a certain period of time, but we did not do this. But, of course, if they are used against us, we reserve the right to mirror actions," Putin said in an interview for Rossiya-1 broadcaster.

Putin made these comments in response to the recent unveiling of a new US military assistance package for Ukraine, which includes cluster munitions.

Comment: It's possible that Russia will not necessarily resort to using cluster bombs themselves - because Moscow has repeatedly sacrificed its own troops to preserve civilian life - however it is likely that response to the use of these munitions will be equally devastating to Ukraine's forces.

The U.S. is beefing up its use of fighter jets around the strategic Strait of Hormuz to protect ships from Iranian seizures, a senior defense official said Friday, adding that the U.S. is increasingly concerned about the growing ties between Iran, Russia and Syria across the Middle East.

Speaking to Pentagon reporters, the official said the U.S. will send F-16 fighter jets to the Gulf region this weekend to augment the A-10 attack aircraft that have been patrolling there for more than a week. The move comes after Iran tried to seize two oil tankers near the strait last week, opening fire on one of them.

The defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details of military operations in the region, said the F-16s will give air cover to the ships moving through the waterway and increase the military's visibility in the area, as a deterrent to Iran.

Kennedy accuses Biden of preparing for 'war with Russia'

The US leader should acknowledge his "failure" in Ukraine and focus on domestic issues, the presidential candidate has said...

By ordering the deployment of 3,000 more reservists to Europe, US President Joe Biden is preparing to fight Russian forces on the ground in Ukraine, Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has said.

"Biden has lost his way," Kennedy tweeted on Friday, arguing that the president should focus on America's domestic problems instead of trying to achieve global military dominance.
"I want people to understand what this troop mobilization is about. It's about preparing for a ground war with Russia. The idea of defeating Moscow in its conflict with Kiev is a futile geopolitical fantasy of the Biden administration.

"Thousands of Ukrainians have already lost their lives because America's foreign policy establishment manipulated their country into war... Now, rather than acknowledge failure, Biden admin prepares to sacrifice American lives too."

The federal debt trap: Issues and possible solutions

Sign War
© Unknown
"Rather than collecting taxes from the wealthy," wrote the New York Times Editorial Board in a July 7 opinion piece, "the government is paying the wealthy to borrow their money."

Titled "America Is Living on Borrowed Money," the editorial observes that over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), annual federal budget deficits will average around $2 trillion per year. By 2029, just the interest on the debt is projected to exceed the national defense budget, which currently eats up over half of the federal discretionary budget. In 2029, net interest on the debt is projected to total $1.07 trillion, while defense spending is projected at $1.04 trillion. By 2033, says the CBO, interest payments will reach a sum equal to 3.6 percent of the nation's economic output.

The debt ceiling compromise did little to alleviate that situation. Before the deal, the CBO projected the federal debt would reach roughly $46.7 trillion in 2033. After the deal, it projected the total at $45.2 trillion, only slightly less - and still equal to 115% of the nation's annual economic output, the highest level on record.

Acknowledging that the legislation achieved little, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said after the vote that he intended to form a bipartisan commission "so we can find the waste and we can make the real decisions to really take care of this debt."
