Bank of International Settlements: CBDC Roll-outs may require changing The Constitution

digital world
The IMF is warning that with all these CBDCs about to launch, there need to be global inter-operability standards between them all, and they're working on a global platform to facilitate just that.

Speaking at a conference of African central banks in Rabat, Morocco, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said that there needs to be agreement among CBDC implementations,
"on a common regulatory framework for digital currencies that will allow global interoperability. Failure to agree on a common platform would create a vacuum that would likely be filled by cryptocurrencies"
Not to be outdone, the Bank of International Settlements (BIS) worked with seven central banks to publish YARP (Yet Another Research Paper) on CBDC policy, entitled "Central Bank Digital Currencies: ongoing policy perspectives"... (*yawn*).

The central banks involved were: Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, England, the United States, Canada, and the European Union.

Ukraine insists on waging war against Russia, Europe pays the bill and suffers the risk - President of Bulgaria

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev
"Ukraine insists on waging this war. But it should also be clear that the whole of Europe is paying the bill. And this war has many dimensions.

I say again, it is not only purely military - it has an economic, social and political dimension. It is a threat and a risk to all of Europe."

This is what President Rumen Radev commented on Friday when asked about the NATO Summit in Vilnius. According to the head of state, it is high time to start thinking soberly and objectively about the war in Ukraine.

"In critical times, the Bulgarian rulers do not have their own thinking, opinion and position", he also said.

Comment: It's rather telling as to the PM's position that he suddenly wants to rush ahead with an infrastructure project that would further facilitate the West's war against Russia; because apparently before building it for the benefit of his citizens and the betterment of their lives just wasn't reason enough: Crimean bridge damaged in attack that killed 2, Russia identifies Ukraine with help of US, UK, special services as responsible

Crimean bridge damaged in attack that killed 2, Russia identifies Ukraine with help of US, UK, special services as responsible

crimean bridge attack
Overnight, traffic had been suspended on the Crimean Bridge linking the peninsula to the Krasnodar region via the Sea of Azov due to an emergency that resulted in the death of two people.

The attack on the Crimean Bridge was committed by the regime in Kiev, stated Russia's Foreign Ministry on Monday.

The decision to target the Crimean Bridge was made by Ukrainian officials, their military, and with the participation of US, and UK Special Services, added the ministry in a statement.

"Today's attack on the Crimean Bridge was committed by the Kiev regime. This regime is a terrorist one and has all the signs of an international organized criminal group," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Telegram.

Andrew Korybko provides his analysis on the attack:
Kiev's Latest Attack Against The Crimean Bridge Was A Desperate Distraction1 7 Jul 2023

Instead of obsessing over this incident and getting the hopes of Kiev's supporters unrealistically high, it would be much more responsible for the media to precondition everyone to expect the seemingly inevitable resumption of peace talks.

Kiev'sNATO-backedcounteroffensive has failed despite the tens of billions of dollars invested in this endeavor as confirmed by US Defense Intelligence Agency Chief of Staff John Kirchhofer's candid admission late last week that "we are at a bit of a stalemate." Ukraine can't count on much more American aid either after Biden earlier revealed that the US is "low" on ammo after depleting its stockpiles, which National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan later told CNN will take years to replenish.

It was against this backdrop that the US decided to give Ukraine cluster munitions despite previously describing their alleged use by Russia as a "war crime" since it simply doesn't have much else left to send. President Putin had earlier assessed that the export of provocative weapons like depleted uranium shells was precisely due to the aforesaid predicament, which he reaffirmed in light of the latest news. Quite clearly, the NATO chief's "race of logistics"/"war of attrition" with Russia isn't going as planned.

The counteroffensive has failed so spectacularly that Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar was forced to inform her audience that reports about Russia going on the offensive near Kupyansk in Kharkov Region are true but sugarcoated it by claiming that Kiev is "putting up strong resistance." With Russia regaining the military initiative, it was only a matter of time before Ukraine resorted to terrorism out of desperation to distract from these dynamics, ergo why it once again attacked the Crimean Bridge.

Monday morning's incident killed at least two people and showed that shortcomings still exist when it comes to defending this strategic piece of infrastructure. Nevertheless, its temporary closure in the aftermath of this attack likely won't affect Russia's frontline operations, especially since its rail portion hasn't been damaged. Even so, this is still a symbolic victory for Kiev that'll be spun by the Mainstream Media to make it seem like the counteroffensive has finally achieved something significant.

In reality, however, this latest attack has nothing to do with that campaign. It was presumably planned for a while and won't shift the military-strategic dynamics of this conflict, neither in the broader sense when it comes to Russia's edge over the West in the "race of logistics"/"war of attrition" nor in the specific one with respect to its offensive in the Kupyansk direction. All that this attack will do is distract from the preceding facts that are too "politically inconvenient" for Kiev's supporters to acknowledge.

As they indulge in the latest "copium" pushed by the Mainstream Media and online trolls, the fact remains that Kiev's counteroffensive spectacularly failed and talks will therefore likely resume with Moscow by sometime later this year as explained in detail here. Instead of obsessing over this incident and getting the hopes of Kiev's supporters unrealistically high, it would be much more responsible to precondition everyone to expect the aforementioned diplomatic development, which appears inevitable.

India and UAE agree to settle trade in rupees and dirhams

The two countries have also sealed a deal to link their respective national payment systems.

In a major boost to the position of the Indian rupee, New Delhi and Abu Dhabi on Saturday agreed to create mechanisms for settling trade in national currencies, as opposed to the use of US dollars.

During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's one-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), one of the largest oil producers in the Middle East, the two nations' central banks signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework to promote the use of local currencies such as the rupee and the dirham for cross-border transactions. They will also link their instant payment systems, India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the UAE's Instant Payments Platform (IPP).

Comment: We are witness to a birth of a new world, where US hegemony is severely declining. The war in Ukraine is just a visible part of an even bigger war that happens in the background, and it is a war to reject the dollar as a universal currency for international transactions.
The BRICS countries are winning that war by slowly rejecting the dollar.

They are targeting the most dangerous and the deadliest weapon that the US and the Western vassal states have, and that is the almighty dollar. If they destroy this "weapon" then very soon most of the other wars will probably stop.

So, bye, bye dollar, and welcome to the new multipolar world.

Biden's calling up the reserves: Has he just exposed critical weaknesses in the US military?

President Joe Biden's order authorizing reserve troops to "augment" American defense commitments in Europe may expose a lack of active-duty troops to fill highly specialized roles, experts and servicemembers speculated.

Biden approved up to 3,000 reserve troops to support U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and NATO as a contingency measure, Department of Defense (DOD) officials explained Thursday, but did not say what triggered the decision or provide specifics on where the units would go. Most likely, the units that may be called up will rotate out with certain military occupations that are harder to fill, people with military knowledge suggested, but experts worried whether the move indicated a worsening manpower crisis.

The Army missed its recruiting goals by 25% in 2022 while the other services barely skirted by, and prospects for meeting goals in 2023 are dim. At the same time, the U.S. sent tens of thousands of additional active-duty troops to Europe after Russia invaded Ukraine, bringing the total commitment to more than 100,000 troops as reserve and National Guard deployments stabilized or decreased, according to Army Times.

Comment: Welcome to 'boots on the ground', however unqualified they might be.

Ron DeSantis campaign fires staff as Florida governor trails Trump in the polls

ron desantis
Ron DeSantis' campaign has dismissed a number of staffers in an effort to trim costs months after the Florida governor entered the crowded 2024 GOP field.

Politico first reported that around 10 staffers have parted ways in recent days. Some of the staffers may join an outside group affiliated with the DeSantis campaign, according to the report.

Despite cruising to re-election in Florida on a hardline conservative agenda, Mr DeSantis has struggled to gain traction in the GOP primary. He consistently trails Donald Trump in polls as the former president has increased his attacks on Mr DeSantis.

Putin reveals new details of his offer to Wagner mercenaries

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wagner Group mercenaries 'could have gathered in one place and continued to serve,' but Yevgeny Prigozhin rejected that offer...

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he offered Wagner mercenaries a chance to serve under the same commander during a meeting just days after their mutinous march on Moscow was thwarted.

Putin gave details of his offer to Wagner Group commanders, including chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, in comments published Friday in the business daily Kommersant, The Associated Press reported. He met with the 35 mercenaries for about three hours on June 29 and spoke to them about their actions in Ukraine, attempted mutiny — which had publicly called an act of treason — and opportunities for future service.

One option was for Wagner to continue operating under the same commander, a man who goes by the call name "Gray Hair" and has led the mercenaries' operations in Ukraine for the past 16 months.

Putin reportedly told Kommersant:
"All of them could have gathered in one place and continued to serve. And nothing would have changed for them. They would have been led by the same person who had been their real commander all along."

Wednesday, during an appearance on FNC's "Fox News Tonight," Democratic presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. reacted to details disclosed in U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty's order rejecting the Biden Justice Department's request to pause an order that limited the Biden administration's ability to suppress free speech on social media.

According to the order, Kennedy, now a political rival of President Joe Biden, was the first person "censored" by the current commander-in-chief.

Partial transcript as follows:

PIERS MORGAN, FOX NEWS HOST: Well, just last week, federal Judge Terry Doughty ruled that the Biden administration coordinated with several social media companies to suppress speech related to the COVID pandemic. One of the individuals censored by the Biden administration was Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He's a Democratic candidate for president, and joins me now.

Welcome, Robert Kennedy. What do you make of the hearings today, what you heard?

Top Biden adviser departing White House at month's end

Terrell
© AP/Charles DharapakLouisa Terrell, White House Senior Advisor/Negotiator
Louisa Terrell, a longtime senior adviser to President Joe Biden, will depart the White House at the end of July, Biden confirmed in a statement Friday afternoon.

Terrell served as part of Biden's inner circle, alongside Steve Richetti and Anita Dunn, and served as a key negotiator for the White House over the past two-and-a-half years. She marks the highest-profile official to exit the administration since Julie Chavez Rodriguez joined the president's reelection effort in the spring.

Biden claimed in a statement that Terrell was critical to passing the Inflation Reduction Act and his landmark spending packages and avoiding a national default during this year's debt ceiling negotiations with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and congressional Republicans.
"For years — as a Senator, as Vice President, as President, and every moment in between — I have relied on Louisa for her wise counsel and her skill. I have relied upon her to reflect my values. And I have relied upon her to deliver for the American people. Every step of the way, that's exactly what she has done. Louisa's steady hand and perseverance have consistently helped get key priorities over the finish line. Her work to secure the confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, along with a historic number of diverse judges and appointees across the United States Government, has significantly furthered our work to build an Administration and judicial benches at every level that look more like America."

Did Democrats learn nothing from the Ruth Bader Ginsburg experience?

Mika Brzezinski, co-host of Morning Joe, is very cross with the White House staff. It isn't, she believes, doing a good-enough job protecting Joe Biden from the effects of being 80 years old and increasingly frail.

She insists that it needs "to clear a pathway" whenever he is walking somewhere, and make sure it is "there and telling him what's next" when he's at an event and going from Point A to Point B:
