Russia claims US is upping the number of labs near its borders, Pentagon denies accusations

The Pentagon has reacted to the statement by the Russian Defense Ministry made earlier in the day about the biological threats coming from the US, saying that the latter has at least 30 laboratories under its control all over the world.

The Lugar Center for Public Health and Research in Georgia is not a US-run facility, and the United States is not using it for the development of biological weapons, Defense Department Spokesman Eric Pahon told Sputnik on Thursday, denying allegations made by a senior Russian military officer.
"The US is not developing biological weapons in the Lugar Center. These are also not US facilities," Pahon said. "The Richard G. Lugar Center for Public Health Research is owned and operated by the Georgian National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC)."
Several hours before that, the Russian Defense Ministry stated Thursday that Washington was highly likely boosting its military and biological potential under the cover of peace research.
"The United States is consistently increasing its biological potential and control of national collections of pathogenic microorganisms not only in the former Soviet republics. More than 30 US-controlled laboratories with a high level of biological protection are functioning and are being constantly modernized today, which has been confirmed by official UN data," Maj. Gen. Igor Kirillov said.
He said US bio labs are a constant source of biological threats to Russia and China.

US, allies, launch avalanche of hacking accusations

Russia on Thursday faced a coordinated barrage of accusations from the United States and its NATO allies, that claimed Moscow was behind a slew of recent malicious cyber attacks around the world.

The accusations were leveled almost simultaneously by the US, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Canada - and included charges about alleged attacks on the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the World Anti-Doping Agency, among others.

US indictments

The US Justice Department indicted seven Russian military intelligence figures, claiming they had targeted the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) - the watchdog agency that has been responsible for investigating the poisoning of ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in March. They also claimed the seven men were involved in leaking Olympic athletes' drug-test data and in an attack on a Pennsylvania nuclear energy company.

US prosecutors say that the alleged Russian cyber attackers were targeting officials who supported a ban on Russian athletes competing in international sporting events.

The Swamp in action: Top FBI official-Comey confidante Baker met with top DNC lawyer Sussman who was leaking to media

Former FBI General Counsel James Baker
DNC attorney Michael Sussmann was leaking unverified information to the media around the time he met with former FBI General Counsel James Baker. Lawmakers say the meeting is yet another indicator that the Trump-Russia investigation was a partisan move

Former FBI General Counsel James Baker met with the Democratic party's top lawyer, Michael Sussmann, to discuss the ongoing investigation by the bureau into the Trump campaign's alleged ties with Russia. This meeting happened prior to the FBI's initial warrant to spy on short-term campaign volunteer Carter Page, sources close to the investigation have told SaraACarter.com. Moreover, information provided by Baker, who gave extensive testimony Wednesday to lawmakers behind closed doors, coincides with the House Intelligence Committee's final Russia report that suggests Sussmann was also leaking unverified information on the Trump campaign to journalists around the same time he met with Baker, according to the report and sources close the investigation.

Western aggression: NATO to deploy 45,000 troops near Russian border, calls it 'defensive'

Amid ceaseless accusations of Russian aggression, NATO will deploy 45,000 troops to Northern Europe in what will be the alliance's largest "defensive" exercise since the end of the Cold War.

Fifty aircraft, 70 vessels, and around 10,000 land vehicles will take part in NATO's Trident Juncture 18 drills, which are set to begin on October 25, with live field exercises continuing until November 7. Thirty-one allied countries and partners are slated to participate.

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg described the massive military maneuvers as "defensive and transparent," adding that all members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), including Russia, had been invited to send observers.

The drills will simulate the defense of a member state being attacked by a "fictional" aggressor, but the drills' set locations in Norway, Finland, and Sweden leave little to the imagination. Observers have noted this setting of this year's drills may have been prompted by the growing struggle with Russia for control of the strategically-vital Arctic.

Macron slammed for telling retirees to stop moaning about pension cuts

Emmanuel Macron is in hot water after telling his compatriots to stop moaning after a retiree complained about pension cuts. Politicians slammed the president for the lack of empathy, saying that people "don't do it for fun."

The French leader was visiting the Colombey-les-Deux-Églises commune in the north-east of the country when he was confronted by a group of locals. One pensioner addressed the centrist president complaining about pension cuts.

The president chose to respond with a bit of moralizing and referred to his formidable predecessor. "The grandson of the general [Charles de Gaulle] told me a little while ago" that his grandfather's rule was: "You can speak freely, the only thing we should not do is to complain."

Macron insisted that French wartime leader "had the right idea" and the country "would be different if everyone did the same."

Berlin has joined the accusatory chorus of Western countries claiming that it was "almost certain" that Russian military intelligence was behind the activities of the elusive Fancy Bear hacker group.

A day late for the party, Berlin has joined the barrage of accusations against Moscow, which - supposedly - "hacked" virtually everything.

"We have full confidence in the assessment of the British and Dutch authorities," government spokesman Steffen Seibert said on Friday.

On Thursday, the UK and the Netherlands claimed that Russian state hackers were behind the attacks on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and other institutions.

Netanyahu's party stokes hysteria against Palestinians and Africans: Runs 'it's us or them' race-baiting ads

"It's us or them", says a new election poster by Likud, suggesting that Jaffa can be either a "Hebrew city" or one taken over by the "Islamist movement". "Only the Likud - the right of Tel-Aviv-Jaffa" it says at the bottom. There is a second version of the ad where "they" are African refugees, labelled as "infiltrators", as Israelis from both right and left of the political spectrum like to call them (photo in Facebook post by David Sheen).

This is a municipal election racial bating campaign. Municipal elections in Israel, which take place every five years, are set for the end of the month.

"Hebrew city" is to be understood as a euphemism for 'Jewish'. When the main Zionist labor union Histadrut called for "Hebrew work" in pre-state years, it was calling for Judaization of the work market. The notion of "Islamist movement" is to be understood as a reference to Palestinians in general, those whom Israelis would mostly call 'Arabs'. In simple terms, Likud is doing the famous racial-bating of 'Jews VS Arabs'. We know this one from Netanyahu's 2015 warning that the "Arabs" are coming to vote "in droves", on the eve of the last parliamentary elections.

The Turkish Armed Forces will leave neighboring Syria after terrorism is eliminated and fair elections take place, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday.

"When terrorism leaves [Syria], when fair elections are held, then we will also leave. We were invited by the residents of Idlib. The same happened in Afrin, where we were invited by the people. Where there are oppressed, we will be there," Erdogan said at a forum in Istanbul.

In a letter released last night from a former boyfriend of Christine Blasey-Ford, there was a name curiously not redacted. The name of Monica L McLean was revealed as a life-long friend who Ms. Ford helped with polygraph preparation.

The media has begun to focus on the letter as outlining a lie told by Ms. Ford during recent congressional testimony... But the backstory to Ms. Monica Lee McLean is an even bigger story.

Catalonia's leader has urged the Spanish government to enter a constructive "mediated dialogue" over the region's independence aspirations, sending a copy of his letter to the US, Russian and Chinese leaders.

In a letter dated September 26 and leaked to the media on Thursday, Catalan President Quim Torra formally asked Madrid to "enter mediated dialogue as quickly as possible."

"You may also wish to suggest one or more institutional mediators and observers to facilitate the substantive dialogue process," he wrote in the letter to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, while also calling on him to ask prosecutors to drop charges against Catalan leaders who were detained during the referendum crisis of 2017.

Torra also sent a copy of the letter, which was written in English, to 43 international and regional leaders. Trump, Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping were among the recipients.
