Trump issued a proclamation to lower flags to half-staff at the White House and other government and military buildings on Sunday to mourn the victims of shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. The flags will return to full-staff on Thursday, August 8 — but former FBI assistant director for counterintelligence turned-NBC pundit Frank Figliuzzi has seen a possible conspiracy in the date.
Figliuzzi explained that the number 88 is "very significant in the neo-Nazi and white supremacist movement" due to the fact that 'H' is the eighth letter of the alphabet and "the numbers 88 together stand for Heil Hitler."

Co-founded by socialite heiress Constance Milstein in 1988, the Humpty Dumpty Institute works closely with the United Nations, the State Department, and "various countries" to "put the pieces back together" in parts of the world ridden with conflict.
Mark Epstein has played a significant role in this mission. According to the organization's website, Jeffrey Epstein's brother serves as Humpty Dumpy's vice chairman, and has represented the group abroad on delegations alongside members of Congress and U.N. dignitaries. As recently as last February, several months before his brother was arrested at Teterboro Airport on federal charges for allegedly sex trafficking minors, Mark traveled with the group to the United Arab Emirates on a trip cosponsored by the nonprofit Peace Without Limits, which, according to Wikileaks, is funded by the Crown Prince of Furjairah in UAE. In 2015, he hosted a private dinner for a Humpty Dumpty conference, which featured a keynote address from former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power.

"The talks that took place in the Turkish Defense Ministry on August 5-7 with US military representatives regarding the planned safe zone in the north of Syria in coordination with the United States have been completed. During the talks, the sides agreed to take measures as soon as possible to eliminate Turkey's concerns about its national security," the ministry said.
"In this connection, it was decided to establish in Turkey in the near future a centre for joint operations, coordination and management of the creation of a safe zone in Syria," it said.
Comment: The agreement come apparently after the Pentagon rapped Erdogan's knuckles over plans for extending its reach into Syrian territory and threatening the US' Kurdish proxy forces. ZeroHedge reports:
Turkey has for days been poised to unilaterally invade northern Syria over US objections, which Ankara officials say is to establish a 32 kilometer (20 mile) inside the war torn country, giving Turkey complete control of a region where the Syrian Kurdish YPG operates (People's Protection Units). Turkey has long considered the US-backed group, which forms the core of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to be a terrorist extension of the outlawed PKK.
The Pentagon has condemned the impending Turkish unilateral move, with US Defense Secretary Mark Esper telling reporters early Tuesday that it would be unacceptable and thwarted by Washington, though it's unclear how far the Pentagon would be willing to go. "What we're going to do is prevent unilateral incursions that would upset, again, these mutual interests that the United States, Turkey and the SDF share with regard to northern Syria," Esper said.
Crucially, according to ABC News, US officials "have made clear that an invasion is an extremely risky venture that could threaten the safety of U.S. forces working with the SDF...".
On Sunday Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his forces would launch an operation in Syria east of the Euphrates River at an unspecified start date, and noted that the US and Russia had been notified.
In ongoing negotiations this summer the US and Turkey have clashed over just such a "safe zone," given Turkey wants the area completely clear of Kurdish armed groups, which the Pentagon simultaneously backs.
Turkish defense officials have lately threatened their "patience is limited" as the army builds up its forces along the border. The Foreign Ministry on Friday warned, "We won't let this process be dragged out. If our expectations aren't met, we are fully capable of taking whatever measures [are needed] to ensure our national security."
Ankara has long condemned US training, logistics support, and weapons going to the YPG, especially as it operates in Manbij, a key Syrian Kurdish stronghold near the border with Turkey.
US officials have been present in Ankara for talks early this week to try and negotiate a last minute settlement to avoid the invasion, with Esper noting Tuesday there's been "progress" made on certain key issues.

British troops gather for a briefing by US Lieutenant General Jeff Conway, March 2003
What was ostensibly intended to be a post promoting the idea of a new exciting trade deal being forged between the two western allies, has instead provoked many online to highlight the wars Britain and the US have participated in around the world.

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro walks next to his wife during a ceremony with Venezuelan militia members in Caracas, Venezuela July 27, 2019.
Support for opposition leader Juan Guaido has all but dried up, and Venezuela's military continues to remain loyal to Maduro. The failure of the US-backed coup means that Washington will now use economic warfare in an attempt to make the Venezuelan people bend to its will, Maté explained to Afshin Rattansi on RT's Going Underground.
"When you can't use force, then you try to make the people suffer," Maté said about the "unprecedented" sanctions targeting Caracas. He added that the strategy of economic strangulation is part of the "regime-change playbook that the US follows around the world."

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct a "preliminary inquiry into misconduct and allegations that go beyond the reported concerns with Jeffrey Epstein's work release," DeSantis wrote in a letter to the department on Tuesday, also tasking them with taking over the criminal probe into that work release.
Explaining that Palm Beach County law enforcement had handled the original investigation and fresh eyes were needed, DeSantis also assigned State Attorney Bruce Colton, whose Nineteenth Circuit does not include Epstein's Palm Beach home, to the case.
The inquiry will attempt to answer questions about how Epstein was able to get away with sexually abusing what the FBI at the time claimed were at least 36 teenage girls and walk away with nothing more than a 13-month sentence that allowed him to leave the jail during the day. He was even allowed to fly his private plane to New York, Boston, and his private island without having to tell his probation officers what he was doing or who he was meeting, according to the Palm Beach Post.

For their part, Syrian leadership has maintained from the start that the uprisings leading to the civil war in their country were not peaceful. Media in the West and the Gulf vilified Syria's leadership, featuring story after story of government-imposed violence while ignoring or whitewashing the violence of the burgeoning armed groups flooding into Syria.
From as early as 2011, armed groups were throwing civilians from rooftops and committing beheadings, kidnappings, and massacres. The year 2011 alone saw multiple massacres of civilians and security forces committed by what the media called "unarmed protesters" and later by the "Free Syrian Army." This was the same year that many in the media were insisting that a "peaceful revolution" was underway.
Since that time, those same armed groups, as well as the many iterations they spawned, have starved, tortured, imprisoned, murdered, maimed and even harvested the organs of Syrian civilians, in addition to killing Syrian and allied soldiers and journalists and destroying much of the country's infrastructure.
To give a voice to the often ignored "other side" — those Syrians that have been working to defend their country since 2011 — Eva Bartlett interviewed the Syrian Arab Army's Head of Political Administration, General Hassan Hassan. A stout military man with styled hair and a clean shave, General Hassan's shelves and large wooden desk are covered with stacks of books, family photos, and various homages to the country he serves — the general holds a Ph.D. in geopolitical studies. The following is a transcript of Bartlett's interview with Hassan following the 74th anniversary of the founding of the Syrian Arab Army.
Seeking a dominant position in everything, including the military domain, is part of Washington's strategic planning, Nikolay Patrushev told journalists on Tuesday. As a nation that does not want to bend to American interests, Russia needs to be able to deter the US.
"Let's recall what happened on August 6, 1945. The US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Why did it happen? Because they had dominance. They knew no nation could retaliate against them for that. The interview focused on the discontinuation of the INF Treaty, a key Cold War era nuclear disarmament treaty, which the Trump administration abandoned this year after accusing Russia of non-compliance. Moscow said it has never seen any evidence that would allow Washington to the claim, and that the US apparently used it as a pretext to shift the blame.
"They cannot be allowed to dominate today, to think that nobody could stand up to them. Our newly developed weapons allow us to have a dialogue with the US, to argue for the interests that we have."
As it was withdrawing from the treaty, the US indicated that it would consider a replacement if China agrees to join and dismantle its arsenal of ground-based missiles with ranges between 500km and 5,500km - the type of weapons that the INF Treaty banned. Patrushev said the proposition was "unrealistic," considering Beijing's discouraging statements on the issue.
"I can only add this: why only China if we consider a multilateral treaty? Why don't we look at England? Why don't we look at France?" he said, mentioning the two NATO allies that have national nuclear capability, like the US.

Israel and the United Arab Emirates have reached "substantial agreements" regarding the "Iranian threat," foreign minister Yisrael Katz told a closed session of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Tuesday, according to Ynet News. Katz also said he has instructed the ministry to include Israel in the US-led "policing" mission, adding that participating in the initiative will improve its relationship with the Gulf Arab states.
The US has had trouble drumming up support for its "maritime policing" initiative in the Persian Gulf, where Iran largely controls one of the world's most important shipping routes. Australia has yet to respond to Washington's invitation to join the anti-Iran club, while Germany has declined to sign on, seeking to avoid further escalation in the region and warning against trying to find a "military solution" to the standoff. Among European countries, only the UK has been eager to send its military into the midst of the tensions, deploying two warships to the region after seizing an Iranian tanker near Gibraltar and having one of its own tankers seized in the Strait of Hormuz.
'Economic terrorism': Trump orders assets freeze; Bolton doubles-down on Maduro exit, targets Moscow
The sanctions target Venezuela's government assets in the US, as well as individuals, companies, and countries doing business with Caracas. The executive order signed by US President Donald Trump reads:
"All property and interests in property of the Government of Venezuela that are in the United States... are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in."The announcement was reinforced by a barrage of threats issued by US National Security Advisor John Bolton, who said "anyone" dealing with President Nicolas Maduro and his government will face secondary sanctions. He singled out Moscow, which has been engaged in economic and military cooperation with Venezuela for a long time.
"The United States is acting assertively to cut off Maduro financially, and accelerate a peaceful democratic transition. We say again to Russia, and especially to those who control its finances: 'Do not double down on a bad bet!'"
Comment: More from RT: Bolton promises economic ruin for Venezuela, trade embargo
Following a failed coup plot and several new layers of US sanctions, National Security Advisor John Bolton has vowed to ruin Venezuela's finances and cut off the 'rogue state' from its trade partners with 'maximum sanctions.'From Sputnik: Bolton: 'Ensure Maduro runs out of financial means to sustain himself'
Addressing a gathering of Latin American states in Peru on Tuesday - where leaders met to discuss Venezuela's future without representatives of the Venezuelan government or the opposition - Bolton elaborated on a new executive order issued by the president.
Speaking in Lima, Peru in a conference on the crisis in Venezuela, Bolton said that new sanctions on Venezuelan state entities and individuals imposed on Monday were "sweeping," and sent "a direct signal to all those who enable [Nicolas Maduro's] dictatorship and undermine the democratically elected national assembly, or interim president Juan Guaido."
"Critically, the executive order also authorises sanctions on foreign persons who provide support, or goods, or services to any designated person including to the government of Venezuela," Bolton said. "This sweeping executive order authorises the US government to identify, target and impose sanctions on any person who continues to provide support to the illegitimate regime of Nicolas Maduro," he added.
Bolton also attacked countries which have voiced support for Venezuela, including Cuba, Russia, China and Iran, accusing them of supporting the "atrocities of a brutal dictator."
"In this hemisphere, it is our moral imperative to defend our neighbours against any threat, internal or external, that undermines peace, security and prosperity," Bolton added, echoing earlier remarks he made about the Monroe Doctrine being "alive and well."
Earlier, speaking to Fox and Friends on Tuesday morning, Bolton said the fresh sanctions against Venezuela announced this week go "well beyond anything we've done before."
The US and its allies feel a "renewed sense of confidence here, a renewed determination that we have to see Maduro moved out of power. I think the regime's isolation is increasing. I think the people of Venezuela need this regime to be removed and the legitimate national assembly government to take power and hold new elections," Bolton said.
On Tuesday, Venezuelan Vice Minister of International Communication William Castillo slammed Washington over the latest sanctions, calling them a sign of the Trump administration's "gangsterism" and "international banditry."
