Comment: Russia has been patiently, methodically destroying Ukraine' military capability since Boris Johnson scuttled nearly-completed peace talks in 2022. By extension, it is also 'demilitarizing' NATO and the U.S., who bet the majority (and for some, all) of their arms stocks on Ukraine. Now those weapons and equipment are irretrievably gone, except for what the U.S. has held back for its coming war on China. (It won't be enough.)

Russia has expertly fought a classic war of attrition, not focused on gaining territory (the West's obsession) but on rendering their foes unable to continue to fight. Attrition wars grind slowly, but tend to end quickly. There may be some interesting developments by late summer . . . .

Comment: Some analysts have commented that Iran's response to Israel's attack on its consulate in Syria, will consist of a direct, symbolic, response, however, more importantly, it will also significantly increase its support for these resistance movements in terms of funding, but also more advanced weaponry. Comment: The UK's official military website, Forces, reports:

The UK must consider a Swedish-style of conscription in order to boost its numbers, according to the former head of MI6.

Sir Alex Younger also said Britain needed a "wake up call" in relation to the size of its Army.

The British Army today is the smallest it has been for 300 years, and Sir Alex told the BBC the UK should look to Sweden.

General Sir Richard Barrons, a former head of Joint Forces Command, said two years of war in Ukraine had proven that the Armed Forces might need to be considerably bigger if a European war broke out.

But in January, the-then Armed Forces Minister James Heappey said any talk of the UK introducing conscription to the Army if Nato goes to war with Russia was "nonsense".

He said the UK had long had plans readied for mobilising volunteers in the event Britain does enter a new conflict, but stressed "nobody is thinking" about bringing back conscription.

The remarks came after comments made by General Sir Patrick Sanders, the outgoing Chief of the General Staff, were interpreted as suggesting that conscription could be required in any potential future battle with Russia due to the British Army being too small.

Number 10 ruled out any suggestion that conscription was under consideration, saying there were no plans to change the British military's "proud tradition of being a voluntary force".

It seems that it's less difficult finding recruits in country with a virtuous leadership, and with a righteous cause: Russia to increase troop number to 1.5 million in response 'external threats' - Shoigu

Comment: Israel set the precedent of destroying the sanctity which the embassies and consulat services have under international law, by bombing the Iranian consulate in Syria. Ecuador is aligned with the US and thus is unlikely to suffer consequences from the US which operates under its own 'rules based order'. It signals a further breakdown of the international order and more chaos and violations are likely to happen in the times ahead.
