U.S. President Donald Trump meets with President of Russia, Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, February 2018
President Trump's warm words for Vladimir Putin and his failure to endorse U.S. intelligence community claims about alleged Russian meddling have been called "treasonous" and the cause of a "national security crisis." There is a crisis, says Prof. Stephen F. Cohen, but one of our own making

FISA applications confirm that the FBI relied solely on the unverified Steele dossier

Carter Page
© Sergei Karpukhin/Reuters
One-time advisor of Donald Trump Carter Page addresses the audience during a presentation in Moscow, Russia, December 12, 2016.
On a sleepy summer Saturday, after months of stonewalling, the FBI dumped 412 pages of documents related to the Carter Page FISA surveillance warrants - the applications, the certifications, and the warrants themselves. Now that we can see it all in black and white - mostly black, as they are heavily redacted - it is crystal clear that the Steele dossier, an unverified Clinton-campaign product, was the driving force behind the Trump-Russia investigation.

Based on the dossier, the FBI told the FISA court it believed that Carter Page, who had been identified by the Trump campaign as an adviser, was coordinating with the Russian government in an espionage conspiracy to influence the 2016 election.

This sensational allegation came from Christopher Steele, the former British spy. The FISA court was not told that the Clinton campaign was behind Steele's work. Nor did the FBI and Justice Department inform the court that Steele's allegations had never been verified. To the contrary, each FISA application - the original one in October 2016, and the three renewals at 90-day intervals - is labeled "VERIFIED APPLICATION" (bold caps in original). And each one makes this breathtaking representation:
The FBI has reviewed this verified application for accuracy in accordance with its April 5, 2001 procedures, which include sending a copy of the draft to the appropriate field office(s).
In reality, the applications were never verified for accuracy.

Trump's "art of the deal" in play as he proposes removal of ALL EU-US tariffs and end to trade war

Trump Macron
US President Donald Trump has proposed a mutual cancellation of "all tariffs, barriers and subsidies" in trade with the European Union in order to provide "fair trade". He is due to conduct business negotiations with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday.

"The European Union is coming to Washington tomorrow to negotiate a deal on Trade. I have an idea for them. Both the US and the US drop all Tariffs, Barriers and Subsidies! That would finally be called Free Market and Fair Trade! Hope they do, we are ready - but they will not!" Trump said from his Twitter account.

Comment: As noted in Trump drops the EU's value as an ally to zero, Trump's 'Art of the deal' goes as follows:
  • Identify a big goal (tax cuts, balanced trade, the wall, etc.).
  • Identify your leverage points versus anyone who stands in your way (elections, tariffs, jobs, etc.).
  • Announce some extreme threat against your opponent that uses your leverage.
  • If the opponent backs down, mitigate the threat, declare victory and go home with a win.
  • If the opponent fires back, double down. If Trump declares tariffs on $50 billion of goods from China, and China shoots back with tariffs on $50 billion of goods from the U.S., Trump doubles down with tariffs on $100 billion of goods, etc. Trump will keep escalating until he wins."

Trump regime goes on anti-Iran rage - but it's all lies

Trump Ali Khamenei Iran

President Trump and Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran
The fascist Trump regime is humanity greatest threat, its imperial rage endangering world peace and stability.

It's in full anti-Iran regime change mode. On Sunday, DJT disgracefully raged against Iranian President Rouhani, saying:

"We will not accept threats. "They'll bring us closer. Don't twist the lion's tail. You will regret it" - Trump tweeting in caps for emphasis saying:

"To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE."

"WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!"

Who's on the right side of major world issues and who supports might over right. Make your own judgment.

On Sunday, neocon extremist Pompeo delivered an imperial anti-Iran address, titled Supporting Iranian Voices the Trump regime doesn't give a hoot about.

He launched a broadside against Iranian sovereign independence, part of a campaign to stoke unrest in the country, aiming to topple its government.

Comment: Without fail, every time the US speaks on how 'evil' this 'regime' or that 'dictator' is, they always do an excellent job at describing themselves. See also:

Nancy Pelosi suffers facial spasm when saying 'constitution', brain glitches when bashing Trump

Things have not been going well lately for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

During a news conference on Monday, the California Democrat suffered a bizarre face spasm when trying to say "Constitution," and malfunctioned several times when attempting to attack President Donald Trump over Russia.

"Our oath to protect and defend our country from all en- and our Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic," Pelosi told reporters with a few colleagues standing behind her.

She went on to say Trump has to "stand up to Putin for his depa- attacks," stuttering and taking long pauses before continuing on her tirade.

Comment: She is apparently degenerating, but from what?

Hypocritical democratic socialist Ocasio-Cortez counts big bank, private equity firm among top donors

Democratic socialist and Congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may rail against the evils of capitalism in her stump speeches, but her campaign, it seems, has been happily cashing checks from big banks and Wall Street private equity firms.

According to Open Secrets, Ocasio-Cortez's top donors are "Justice Democrats" - a Democratic socialist national organization - and the Soros-funded activist arm, MoveOn.org. But among her top ten donors are "big bank," J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., and Elevation Partners, "an American private equity firm that invests in intellectual property and media and entertainment companies."

Comment: A hypocritical socialist - what a surprise.

The plot thins: How a gel became a liquid and the whole Novichok affair began to smell to high heaven

'Novichok' survivor Charlie Rowley is in a "safe house" but has been denied access to television and newspapers, according to his brother. The ever-stranger case of the Salisbury-Amesbury poisonings gets curiouser and curiouser.

Whoever said 'Novichok' was a "military-grade lethal nerve agent" doesn't know their tables.

For a program which Boris Johnson told us had been 10 years in the making, had cost (presumably) millions of dollars to develop (and "train" agents to put poison on a doorknob), a 20-percent success rate must have been a bitter disappointment.

Four out of five of those affected by 'Novichok' - Sergei and Yulia Skripal, Detective Sergeant Bailey, and Charlie Rowley - have survived the contact, with only poor Dawn Sturgess, a homeless alcoholic, succumbing to its "deadly" effects.

US politicians and media talk of Iran regime change as if it's their divine right

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani
US President Donald Trump's dire warning to Iran has renewed debate within American news media about whether his administration is seeking regime change in Tehran or merely using threats as a psychological weapon.

Embedded in the US public discourse is the arrogant assumption that Washington has the right to pursue regime change against any nation it chooses. For the American ruling class and its media echo chambers, it is tantamount to a "divine right" - an unquestionable mission with which Americans are "blessed."

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo earlier this week talked about how America was doing "God's work" in reaching out to Iranian people to encourage the overthrow of their "mafia regime."

"To our Iranian American and Iranian friends, tonight I tell you that the Trump administration dreams the same dreams for the people of Iran as you do," said Pompeo. "And through our labors and God's providence, that day will come true."

The most dangerous man in the world? How Bill Browder's greed helped spark a new Cold War

Some of hedgefunder William Browder's firms were caught involved in $230 million tax fraud in Russia
The darling of the war party needs to answer some questions

At the press conference following their summit meeting in Helsinki, Russian President Vladimir Putin and American President Donald Trump discussed the possibility of resolving potential criminal cases involving citizens of the two countries by permitting interrogators from Washington and Moscow to participate in joint questioning of the individuals named in indictments prepared by the respective judiciaries. The predictable response by the American nomenklatura was that it was a horrible idea as it would potentially require U.S. officials to answer questions from Russians about their activities.

Putin argued, not unreasonably, that if Washington wants to extradite and talk to any of the twelve recently indicted GRU officers the Justice Department has named then reciprocity is in order for Americans and other identified individuals who are wanted by the Russian authorities for illegal activity while in Russia. And if Russian officials are fair game, so are American officials.

Comment: Alex Krainer has also investigated Bill Browder and felt the weight of his legal wrath.

Bolton: Trump delays second Putin summit until 2019

US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump has decided to postpone the next meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin until sometime in 2019, after the 'Russia witch hunt' ends, national security adviser John Bolton said.

"The president believes that the next bilateral meeting with President Putin should take place after the Russia witch hunt is over, so we've agreed that it will be after the first of the year," Bolton said in a statement referring to the probe led by Special counsel Robert Mueller.

Comment: More details will undoubtedly follow.
