Who will tell the people? Russian institute exposes Western media lies

Moscow-based Institute of Oriental Studies under the Russian Academy of Sciences (IVRAN) presented a devastating report about the lies of the Western mainstream media about Syria.

But this damning report is not getting the attention it deserves by the mainstream media in the West. However, that shouldn't come as a surprise. There are many facts in the Institute's report that would make sensations in the EU and the US, had they unmasked the Russian, and not the Western, media falsifications.

In a similar situation, there was a whole media frenzy in the US and EU media in 2014, when a Russian television channel released an interview with a woman refugee from the rebellious Eastern Ukraine, who provided the unconfirmed report about a local boy being crucified by Ukrainian government troops. Meanwhile, in its report, IVRAN proved much cruder, intentional falsifications on the side of the Western media reports about Syria.

Trump's selection of Nikki Haley for UN ambassador should ease Israel concerns

US President-elect Donald Trump's choice of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley for next US ambassador to the United Nations should bring comfort to those concerned about the relationship between Israel and the organization, US Senator and former presidential candidate Lindsey Graham said in a statement on Wednesday.

Haley will be a strong voice for reform and for American interests around the world, Graham added.

"Governor Haley is a strong supporter of the State of Israel. Her presence as Ambassador will be reassuring to all those who are concerned about the increasing hostility of the United Nations toward Israel," Graham stated.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump named Haley as his nominee for US ambassador to the UN. Her nomination will have to be confirmed by the US Senate.

Graham ran against Trump for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. He did not support Trump as the Republican nominee after dropping out of the race in December of 2015.

The Untold Story of Killary's Corrupt Haitian Earthquake Recovery Project

Hillary cheater
Donald Trump was the only presidential candidate who highlighted that the Clinton-backed earthquake recovery project in Haiti was an absolute disgrace, Dr. Dady Chery, a Haitian-born journalist, told Sputnik, adding that she believes that Haitian-Americans are not the only ones who voted for Trump to see the Clintons brought to justice.

Donald Trump won't appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton, as he promised back in October, the US President-elect's aide signaled Tuesday.

โ€‹"I think when the President-elect, who's also the head of your party, tells you before he's even inaugurated that he doesn't wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message, tone and content," Kellyanne Conway, former Trump's campaign manager, told MSNBC as quoted by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The question then arises, whether controversial episodes such as, for example, the Clintons' role in the recovery project in Haiti back in 2010, will be simply swept under the rug.

British ex-foreign secretary Hague: Trump is 'a joke' who has offended every US ally

Hague
© Your News WireFormer Tory Foreign Secretary William Hague
In electing Donald Trump, the US has handed power to 'a joke' who offends everybody he meets, according to former Tory Foreign Secretary William Hague. Hague, who served as Tory leader from 1997 to 2001, blasted his fellow conservative in a speech at Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Monday night.

"The last time I was here I did tell you a lot of jokes and stories about politics, but the trouble now with political jokes is that they have started to get elected," he told the audience.

To illustrate his point, Hague read out a fictional letter addressed to him from Trump.
"You all know that I believe in the special relationship with your country, which is just as well as I've already pissed off most of the others," the letter lampooned. "And you also know I am committed to building the biggest wall ever to keep out Mexicans, which is where you come in โ€” and they don't," it went on. "So God bless America, God bless our wall and God bless the voters, who will believe anything," it finished.
In January, after Trump said Muslims would be banned from entering the US, a petition to ban him from the UK gained over 500,000 signatures.

The government ruled against a ban, although then-Home Secretary Theresa May's spokesperson said "coming to the UK is a privilege and not a right and she will continue to use the powers available to prevent from entering the UK those who seek to harm our society and who do not share our basic values.

"Exclusion powers are very serious and are not used lightly. The Home Secretary will use these powers when justified and based on all available evidence."

Now prime minister, Theresa May has announced plans for a state visit by President-elect Trump to the UK at the earliest opportunity.

Comment: Apparently Trump did not offend everyone he met; he was elected. The global paradigm will change, no matter what others think. So be it as it has to be. Hague, a biased person who thinks he isn't, has lowered himself to the level he professes to detest - - a 'political joke.' That Trump 'offended' one of the self-righteous war-mongering elite - - 'right' on target.

Olympia, WA: Proposed bill to charge protesters with 'economic terrorism'

Free speech
© ThingLinkBreaking the potential new law?
Rather than working to abolish some of the thousands of illogical, irrational laws in the United States criminalizing ordinary, mundane behavior, one legislator dreamed up yet another means to give us a criminal record โ€” "economic terrorism."

Washington State Senator Doug Ericksen's new bill, however, only hazily concerns economics. Instead, the proposed legislation โ€” dressed in the sheep's clothing of criminalizing rioting โ€” constitutes a predatory attack on First Amendment-protected activity: protests.

"Ericksen has prepared a bill for next year's legislative session that would create a new crime of economic terrorism," the senator's website states. "The measure would allow felony prosecution of those who intentionally break the law in an attempt to intimidate or coerce private citizens or the government by obstructing economic activity."

Ericksen is apparently sick to death of protests โ€” peaceful or otherwise โ€” and hopes to target activists who occasionally disrupt the flow of commerce or block traffic. Such demonstrations โ€” whatever ire they provoke from those who would rather maintain a routine of sleep, work, eat, repeat โ€” often represent the sole outlet for people who feel their grievances have fallen on lawmakers' deaf ears.

Comment: Laws and rights are sufficiently stated to contain legalities to protect individuals and communities under specific conditions. In the US, the number of laws on the books is staggering. This looks like a case of 'more is not better.'

War with Russia? Congress close to approving 'no-fly zone' in Syria

US Congress

The rushed passing of HR5732 without debate is indicative that the US establishment has not yet given up on the idea of regime change in Syria.

Late in the day Tuesday November 15, Congress convened in a special session. With normal rules suspended, they passed House Resolution 5732 - the "Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act". The resolution calls for intensifying already harsh sanctions on Syria, assessing implementation of No Fly Zone in Syria and escalating efforts to press criminal charges against Syrian officials.

HR5732 claims to promote a negotiated settlement in Syria but, as analyzed by Friends Committee for National Legislation, imposes preconditions which would actually make that more difficult.

There was 40 minutes of "debate" with six representatives (Royce, Engel, Ros-Lehtinen, Kildee, Smith, and Curbelo) speaking in favor of the resolution. There were few other Congressional representatives present in Congress. The House Foreign Affairs Committee stated that the resolution was passed "unanimously" without mentioning the special conditions.

Concerns over 'fake' news already being weaponized by the West to control thought and information

You really know that masses of people are living within a mind-control matrix when the greatest, most pervasive purveyors of fake news denounce others for the practice.

And yet they do so without the slightest hint of awareness about their own monstrous hypocrisy.

"Fake news" has become a hot issue following the surprise US election victory of maverick business tycoon Donald Trump. Supposedly serious Western media outlets have highlighted the spread of hoax stories purporting to be news reports as having swayed the presidential race in Trump's favor against his rival, Democrat career politician Hillary Clinton.

One such hoax "report" was that Pope Francis had allegedly given his blessing to Trump just before the November 8 poll, which presumably prompted some American Catholics on board the Republican's election ticket.

No doubt, the internet is a plentiful source of false rumor and other bizarre, tall stories.

But now, it seems, Western corporate media giants are calling for Facebook and other social networking sites to weed out "fake news". Given how wrong the US media called the election and also their rabid bias against Trump, the hunt for a scapegoat is understandable.

The monstrous swindle that is NAFTA

US annex canada 1866
In 1854, Canada entered its first free trade (or Reciprocity) treaty with the United States and by 1866 it was clear the Canadian colonies were being absorbed into the US. A bill was introduced in Congress for their admission as "States and Territories of the United States of America."

In that year, however, the US unilaterally abrogated the agreement. In shock, the Canadian colonies decided to unite and create their own economy โ€” "a northern power." On July 1, 1867, the Dominion of Canada was born.

In the following decades, under John A. Macdonald's National Policy, an east-west Canadian economy was fostered, and it prospered. There was no income tax; Georges-รˆtienne Cartier, co-founder of Confederation with Macdonald, opposed taxing the population and insisted that government revenue come from duties on imported goods. In 1911, however, Wilfrid Laurier's Liberals proposed free trade with the US. and Conservative finance critic George Foster warned of "deep danger" ahead. "The best kick that Canada ever had," Foster said, was abrogation of the 1854 Reciprocity Treaty. "Canadian nationality" began to develop, using "Canadian resources for Canadian developments" and "Canadian routes for Canadian trade." Then "new blood pulsed in our veins, new hopes... new horizons and new visions." Canadians voted against the free trade proposal.

However, in 1988 Canada entered a free trade agreement with the US (FTA) giving sweeping rights to US corporations to buy up most of the Canadian economy and a clause allowing the US a majority of Canada's total energy supplies even if Canada itself goes short. Canada also committed to never, through any government action, charge Americans more for "any good" exported to the US, than it charges Canadians! In the 1988 election, a majority of Canadians voted for parties opposed to the FTA in what then Prime Minister Brian Mulroney called a referendum on free trade. The people's verdict was not honoured.

Comment: NAFTA was a dry run for the even more monstrous TTP and TTIP. Fortunately, countries around the world have taken a page from Canada's experience, and have refused the deals.

War in Washington Between Neo-Cons And Libertarians Over Trump's Foreign Policy

Trump contributions
© Mike Segar
In late October, when it was still conventional wisdom that Hillary was "guaranteed" to win the presidency, the WaPo explained that among the neo-con, foreign policy "elites" of the Pentagon, a feeling of calm content had spread: after all, it was just a matter of time before the "pacifist" Obama was out, replaced by the more hawkish Hillary.

As the WaPo reported, "there is one corner of Washington where Donald Trump's scorched-earth presidential campaign is treated as a mere distraction and where bipartisanship reigns. In the rarefied world of the Washington foreign policy establishment, President Obama's departure from the White House โ€” and the possible return of a more conventional and hawkish Hillary Clinton โ€” is being met with quiet relief."
The Republicans and Democrats who make up the foreign policy elite are laying the groundwork for a more assertive American foreign policy via a flurry of reports shaped by officials who are likely to play senior roles in a potential Clinton White House.
Oops.

Not only did the "foreign policy" elite get the Trump "scorched-earth distraction" dead wrong, it now has to scramble to find what leverage - if any - it has in defining Trump's foreign policy. Worse, America's warmongers are now waging war (if only metaphorically: we all know they can't wait for the real thing) against libertarians for direct access to Trump's front door, a contingency they had never planned for.
