Galloway: General election best solution to Brexit chaos

UK Prime Minister Theresa May was right to ask opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn to participate in Brexit talks, according to George Galloway. However, the veteran politician argues that she waited far too long to do it.

Meeting with the Labour leader has already cost May two government ministers, Chris Heaton-Harris and Nigel Adams, who stepped down on Wednesday.

Joking that it is "so obvious that it can not possibly be a trap" Galloway warned Corbyn that the prime minister may be trying to ensnare him into sharing responsibility for a Brexit deal which looks certain to upset Remainers and Brexiteers alike.

Cassandra Fairbanks' account of her visit to Julian in the Ecuadorean Embassy paints a truly harrowing picture of the conditions in which he is being held. Last week after receiving a message from Julian I applied to the Ecuadorean Embassy to go and see him. I have done this many times but a new regime has established involving forms and strict time windows.

The Ecuadorean Embassy claim not to have received my email with the application, which is peculiar as I received no undeliverable message and bcc copyees received it. I therefore re-sent it with a new email advising they may change the date and time if the original is not now achievable. I have heard nothing so far in response.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Moscow was motivated primarily by a desire to show weary voters ahead of Israel's upcoming election that he is a respected leader on the world stage, an analyst told RT.

The Israeli prime minister met for several hours with President Vladimir Putin in the Russian capital on Thursday, but the timing of his visit, rather than the topics of discussion, seemed to interest analysts the most.

Amir Oren, a veteran Israeli journalist and political commentator, said that while Netanyahu likely petitioned Putin on one of his favorite pet issues, Iran's military presence in Syria, the meeting was clearly held for domestic consumption back home in Israel.

"The main point is probably to gain domestic support because [Netanyahu] has consistently tried to portray himself as being, as he said, in a different league than all other political candidates - someone with global stature, who can meet with both the American and Russian presidents, and host the Brazilian president and others."

Whether the diplomatic stunt will give him a boost in the polls ahead of the April 9 election is another matter, noted Oren.

The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday received Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza and the accompanying delegation.

President al-Assad was briefed on the latest developments taking place in Venezuela by Minister Arreaza, as he expressed confidence that Venezuela will overcome the crisis that it is currently facing and restore the state of stability soon enough.

President al-Assad pointed out that the policies adopted by some western states, on top of which, the USA towards what is going on in Venezuela in terms of their blatant interference in the Latin state's affairs and their imposing economic siege and sanctions on it have become an approach they adopt with all states that do not agree with their policies.

Russia helps Israel recover remains of soldier lost in 1982 Lebanon battle

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for helping to find and recover the remains of an IDF soldier who went missing in a 1982 battle with Syrian forces during the First Lebanon War.

"You personally answered our request and you gave an order to render assistance in this matter," Netanyahu told Putin during his visit to Moscow. He added that the funeral of IDF Sergeant Zachary Baumel will take place later on Thursday in Israel.

Netanyahu said that Baumel's father, who "traveled the world to track down any piece of information" about his son, has passed away, and the mother is almost 100 years old. Baumel's sister will attend the funeral. "She is very grateful to Russian soldiers, who risked their lives to recover Zachary's remains," Israeli PM said.

Russia's Foreign Ministry criticized NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for mentioning Joseph Stalin in the same breath as Adolf Hitler and ISIS, as "enemies of freedom."

In his address to a joint session of the US Congress on Wednesday Stoltenberg made a case for greater defense spending for NATO countries, stressing that "in an ideal world, we would not need to spend any money on defense, but we do not live in an ideal world."

Hitler could not have been stopped with peaceful protest. Stalin could not have been deterred with words. ISIS could not have been defeated with dialogue.

That is what Stoltenberg said, emphasising NATO's importance for Europe and the US.

Comment: Stoltenberg is a complete tool. But then, he was PM of Norway when the Utoya/Oslo terror attacks happened, so he knows who's boss.

The Trump administration previously promised to present the Mideast peace plan, dubbed the Deal of the Century, after the Israeli election, slated for 9 April.

US President Donald Trump is likely to reveal his Mideast peace plan on 15 May, the 71st anniversary of Nakba Day, or Israeli Independence Day, the Emirati news website Al-Khaleej Online reported on Wednesday, according to the Middle East Monitor.

The website cited unnamed sources as saying that the US administration had informed senior Saudi, Emirati, Egyptian, and Jordanian officials about the date of the announcement.

The long-delayed "Deal of the Century" has reportedly already been completed, with Washington having allegedly obtained financing from Arab and other nations to ensure its implementation.

If you want to delve into the paranormal, here's a reason for you to enlist in the Russian Army - an MoD magazine says some troops are taught to crack safes, evade ambushes and burn computer chips using... telepathic powers.

What is the Russian Army's best-nurtured superpower? Don't even think of Spetsnaz or nuclear subs, or EMP weapons, because Armeisky Sbornik ('Army Digest' in English) has got something bigger to tell. The magazine, run by the Defense Ministry, claims the military is very much into parapsychology, which studies strange things like telepathy, precognition, near-death experiences or reincarnation.

Back in the late 1980s, the Soviet military began developing what the offbeat piece - entitled 'A super-soldier for future wars' - calls 'metacontact,' in other words, a kind of telepathic power that can make a foot soldier into a superhero.

Such a warrior, it insists, is able to use his brain power "to burn chips in generators, eavesdrop on conversations or disrupt telecommunications, including television and radio waves." More than that, believe it or not, the military have been experimenting with miscellaneous linguistic skills. A telepath had reportedly managed to read a file locked in a safe that was "written in a language he didn't speak."

Comment: Both the US and USSR certainly took this line of research seriously during the Cold War.

Executives at Facebook, YouTube and 4Chan could face jail time under new "world-first" laws designed to stop the sharing of violent videos and images on social networks.

The legislation, developed in the wake of the Christchurch mosque shooting and passed in the Australian parliament on Thursday local time, targets social networks with hefty fines and even jail terms for company executives if they fail to take down "abhorrent violent material" shared on their platforms.

The laws are unique in that they target social networks and internet service providers, rather than the original users uploading violent material, and set out individual liability for material shared on an entire platform.

Israel is planning to settle some 250,000 settlers in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights over the next 30 years, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority (IBA) revealed yesterday.

According to Anadolu, the report comes one week after US President Donald Trump signed a presidential decree recognising the Golan Heights as "Israeli territory".
